I had this 86dc thing the other day and the only way to get rid of it was to reghost an old image on?

Or is this a different issue?


Havnt done anything at all with the pc today except play games. TIger Woods is chuffing along quite nicely with none of the lag I was experiencing with the old 2.4 @ 3.6 :thumbup:

I managed to get some benchies done at 4ghz. 250fsb 1:1 2-6-2-2 with PAT = TUrbo and system performance = Turbo also. 0F refresh timer used also. (I think thats the setting)

Been having a good day today. I think its cos I am learning the machine more over the past 24 hours. Everytime I have rebooted the PC today - about 20 times - it has worked first go. The pc has not crashed on me today for any reason apart from when I made it crash. Today its a little hot for 4ghz stable so I know fore sure its a heat problem most likely.

When she doesnt post, I just turn the rig off for the prommy 2 min reset and then fire it up and she is on first go. I am still keen to maybe try a MAX3. Its apparantly made for the Prescot so it should be maybe better than the Asus. I read the article on OC.om that a mate sent me the link to and it was a very interesting read. A read that has me convinced that current motherboards will not be allowing the EE to show its full potential.

Something to investiage over the summer cos this cpu isnt going anywhere ;)

I can remove pics if you like and just have links if it lowers the server load. :)

I don't think so considering its a Xeon (Gallatin), and that has run fine for as long as it has been out.

Tempting but I doubt it is worth for me to get it when I already have the Athlon 64 FX - 51.

May be I will see the Pentium IV 3.4EE vs Athlon 64 FX - 53. One of them will be my next choice.

Asetek will soon release the Vapochill kit for Athlon 64 and then I can use my Vapchill PE until I order the Mach II.

Watch out, the current MAX III is not Prescott compatible. It does not meet VRM 10 and FMB 1.5 standards. The only board from Abit that does right now is the AI7.

I've heard rumors of a V1.1 MAX III coming out that is Prescott ready. Anyone heard more? I'd rather have the MAX board than the AI7.

BTW, I am now convinced its voltage regulation. The EE needs 91A. Current VRM 9 and FMB 1.0 provides 70A. VRM 10 and FMB 1.5 provides 78A. I read all the links on that OC.com article and it seems clear to me that even though some of the current 875/865 boards have beefy voltage regulation (allowing for them to show EE support with a BIOS flash), it's just not enough when trying to push the CPU to it's limits.

MAXIII is still risky IMHo. The divider/vdimm problems still have not been solved.

Just kidding. I agree that's where the argument against Burn-in fails, or begins to breakdown; there are throusands of poeple who claim to have seen better results (significantly better) after bruning in.

mdzcpa, I have found that anything above 1.80 in the bios on vcore starts to give me heaps of reboot problems. If I keep her at 1.80 or below then it seems to post everytime. If I put to 1.825 or 1.85 in bios then we get the problems.

I read that OC.com article also and it got me a little worried. I think its pretty plain to see the current board wont support the power hungry EE cpus. The AI7 are so cheap here locally that I thnk it might be wroth just grabbing one and thrashing her around for a day or two. The only problem is its an 865 board - and that is about 300-500 3dmarks less than an 875 board :(

We need something from the mobo companies that officially says yes or no if the cpus will run. :thumbsup:

I think your right. I noticed the same thing about the higher voltages....very unstable delivery of power.

I did find this interesting Abit document re: Prescott compatability i've attached below. It seems they say the Max III is indeed FMB 1.5 and therefore Prescott compatible. It might be worth a shot. The only thing is, there has been much talk of unstable voltage delivery on that board that it makes me hesitate to try it.

My buddies AI7 produced incredibly stable voltages across the board with his OC'd 3.0Ghz chip. Everything was over volted just a little bit and never dipped during load. Very nice.

I think I'm gonna try an AI7 just for fun.

Yea the Max3 has got its quarks, but overall its a great board. I would say wait untill ver. 1.1 is out, because the whole VDimm and VTT issue really does not help anything. If you want to feed your RAM some real volts then the current ver. 1.0 will not do what you want it to do. I'll give you a fast example: I have 1GB of XMS (PC3500) RAM and @ 2.8 I got it up to 218 FSB @ 1:1. Then I upped the voltage (which was a little jumpy) to 3.2 and I got it up to 228. But the VTT was still at 1.4, when it should have been at 1.6, which makes a big difference. If I got it with a stable VTT and VDimm then I could easily hit 235 @ 1:1, where as im stuck at 228 with the VDimm and VTT issue.

But I would def. say wait untill the new revision comes out and get that. It is/should be Prescott compatable as you showed up there, so its pretty much future proff (untill Tejas)... so why not grab one?

I don't use Prime95 as a burn-in, I use it to test stability, it's probably the best program for doing this I have found.

The CPU can't have got to 86c, as you said it would have shut down, or fried, and WebTemp showed it just jumping straight up to 86c as opposed to gradually climbing there, oh well, I'll wait till the new RAM gets here, give it a more thorough testing, with the latest BIOS, and if that doesn't help, RMA time. :mad:

Look like your PSU is going to be more important then ever as well.

I just got a really nice package in the mail the other day from TTGI USA. Thier aluminum, quad-fanned TT-550TS runs 55A on the 5V rail! I wonder how important this will be with theses P4 EE's?

Sorry, didn't know you were using it simply to test stability. By the way, sorry to hear about the memory thing as well, but they are taking care of you right. Tony Leach is an excllent rep. He'll hook you up. What would the memory do? What were the best timmings you got out of it? And did you end up testing each stick like I suggested to see where the problem was?

I've tried both sets of DIMM's, and it's really wierd, but 1,3 seem to work well for high-latency high speed memory like PC4000, PC4200, but for really tight timming's I found that DIMM's 2,4 worked much better. It's ver strange, but I tested this theory like five times and repeated the results? Very strange...

and are you testing dimms at p4c800e dlx i test at my p4p800 and find dimms 2 4 is better like you too really strange isnt it :)

I tried swapping the RAM around, swapped slots, swapped particular sticks within particular slots, no luck, I'm just glad OCZ has good support.
