Solving the AN7 issue

I dont see how it can possibly be worse than the NF7-S hole mount wise. The nylon bolts I used had to be put in with a screw turn motion through the board and this is where it gets it's grip. I put the nuts on the underside but only put 1 on the top side, the only spot there wasn't a transistor or something. That one also made it hard to close the socket lever, I eventually broke it in half. So this time I was to use no nuts on top of the board. Just the nuts on the underside and on top of the block for the sandwiching tension. So only way it could be worse as far as I'm concerned is to put something important hanging off the edge of the hole to be ripped out when pushing a bolt through. After the v2.0 was realeased immediately after my 1.2, I didnt want to be fishing for new revs to have something better released real shortly. I think this board may not be it.

Well all this was unexpected!

I have all 4 bolts on top too. I just trimed away any nylon overlaping the transistors. I cut one bolt a lot so the lever can swing open and shut.

Would'nt it be easier to just trim the lock bar? Like cut it in half after the middle of the bar where it clips onto the socket?

I mean its just plastic? Dremel should take care of that.. hell sounds so good i think i'll do the same to mine hehe.

is there nobody that has done a VDD mod for this board, get lost of the stock nb cooler and replaced it by a better one? (water or something) because maybe they will rock like hell than and maybe not but gif it a try this is nothing and what are te bandwithscores with this board (pls post some results in pictures)

And what happens if you want to sell or rma it? No one will take it back cause it will be damaged. What I do leaves no trace :)

Oh yeah I'm taking the stock sink off putting on a copper one. Little heatsinks on the 6 mosefets. Will water cool the CPU.

eclypse, that is where mine broke. No dremel needed. Just good old fashioned man power on a cheap piece of §§§§ socket arm.

as far as cooling, I watercool cpu and graphics but epoxy generic celeron sinks as nb coolers. So unfortunately, I and probably others, dont want to get into a lot of that and vmodding until I know it's not going straight back from whilst it came. I never return things because they dont OC good but this shouldnt cause any moral dillemmas. Hey abit, maybe it doesnt OC good because it's physically damaged, oh wait you did that? In a hurry or something? That may be hard to get others to agree on. But I think if something looks shady out the box, you'd be in the right to return it. Like I want to already. Me trying it at least lends to the possibility of keeping it.

There is a post in Abit marketing section. he confirmed the cut on his test board and will get back to us shortly.

Ok I have her up and running. I have to do a clean install though.

Oh man the board is way cool. It has so many voltage options and you can read them ALL in the bios including the Vdd !!!! Yeah!!!Oh man all the Vdimm options are incredible.
up to 3.20v baby!

The Vdd is at 1.60 right now but reads 1.62 in the bios. A little overvolt. I have to eat something and let her burn in. Nice options man, very nice options. I predict this board is the next big hit.

Just have my Barton 2500 at 200 x 12 for warming up purposes. I'll clock her higher later.

well in my case yes it booted up fine and worked well within the bios without any problems will do more testing once i get a new hard drive to install an OS on.

I'll tell you one thing this Guru is kind of a hassle. I'm using a water block and had nothing on the CPU fan header and it booted up fine no sirens. I even took unplugged the Nb fan and took it off since I put on another but I choose to run the fan off the PSU and not the mobo.


After I installed the Guru software and checked it out, the siren started. Blinking red that the CPU is OFF, the NB is OFF.

§§§§. I had to plug in a small fan on the CPU and put the Antec RPM lead from the PSU on the NB header.

Didn't Abit thing that the overlockers that buy this board would be using water blocks and no cpu fans or NB fan headers?

Well for me yes.

But it seemed to activate the Guru chip cause it happened when I booted up afterwards and was only in the bios not windows.

How dumb. How stupid....

At least give you the option of turning it off!!!!

I'm just fuming about Abit making people have a fan on the CPU fan header of you get a fu&ken siren noise.

How moronic is it to make an overlockers board with Vdimm up to 3.20, and NOT EVEN THINK that most people would NOT be using the freaken CPU fan header and would be using water blocks.

But no, they are TOO STUPID to think ahead about this. Who is the idiot in charge of all this?

I had to unplug my speaker to stop the noise. I refuse to use a fan on the CPU header.

Now, like my buddy said, this AN7 is basically a NF7 with better voltages. Why shouldn't it be perfect like a NF7 version 3.0 should be?

This is my personal opinion here but I feel Abit is up to their marketing tricks again.

I believe they purposely made the board flakey like this so they can churn us to buy the next revision and the next, till it's right. The same as they did with the NF7. 1 st version 1.0, then a few weeks later version 1.1, then 1.2, then 2. I think you see the pattern.

Ok tell me why this board is acting like it would be the 1 st N2 board Abit ever put out? Why should the knowledge they have from the past NF7's make a perfect board now?

All they changed were voltages and the whole board is flaky?
