Semi off topic, but do you think the Ga-MA790X-UD4 is going to a have a functionally very similar bios to the GP-DS4h?
here's a screenshot with 4 x 2gb kingston valuerams. these rams can run 1k easy but I do not have a good divider to run them higher. htt stuck at 290. 300 = bsod.
doesn't boot on my kingston valuerams 4x 1gb d9 gmh.

Guys...just wondering, what software do you use to monitor the CPU temp? I'm using a xigmatek S963 HSF. At idle, Gigabyte Easy Tune 5 says 28C but Core-temp shows 41C. :shrug:

Seems I got a few of issues with this mobo.
1) It couldn't display anything when I plugged in my 8800GT. Tried on-board's dvi and vga connector gave the same result.
2) AMD Overdrive can't detect AMD processor installed. :confused: I have flashed to F3 bios.
Edit: 1) was solved by disabling onboard graphics. 2) Just saw the first post lol...trying 2.1.4 now. :D
Hey all! Could you try one thing for me? Disable NB "dynamic clock gating" and NB "Azalia" from Advanced Chipset Features. This could help with stability! Report back if you don't mind... Thanks
Wouldn't surprise me, I have all hardware disabled in bios that I don't need to bench ;)
Disabling dynamic clock gating helped for me at high bus speeds 260 + thanks for the tip.
I also changed to F3o bios as it is stable at slightly higher bus speeds for me with the Phenom 2 than the F3 official.
Edit - AOD 2.1.5 worked for me with the F3 official bios but for F3o I had to downgrade to AOD 2.1.4
Edit 2 - I am having a problem with my Creative audio driver giving BSOD in vista x64 only while overclocking. When i raise CPU voltage to 1.5 volts the driver crashes on startup with audio driver error. Disabling dynamic clock gating allowed it to boot at 1.5 volts but it crashes again while running prime95 with sound driver BSOD after 30 minutes even though the CPU isnt giving errors. I have no idea why the soundcard would give me errors when I raise the CPU voltage. At lower voltages the system is stable but my overclock is more limited. I have just tried to raise the SB voltage + 0.1 to see if this might stabalise the southbridge.

I'm currently running the F2 BIOS.
Since that BIOS version doesn't recognize my CPU I've set everything manually:

As you've noticed I OC'ed the CPU a bit, and everything seems to be running PERFECT. However, I'm curious if I'm potentially not getting everything I could be if I was to run the newer F3 BIOS.
Also, should I be OC'ing my Hyper Transport frequency to 2.0 GHZ+? It's on default 1.8 GHZ.
You may be able to push the CPU an NB higher with default HT Link speed. It won't do much difference in performance. I recommend you to overclock the NB, that will bring quite a lot of extra punch. You may need to increase CPU NB VID. Watch your temps too. It will run quite a bit hotter with high NB + volts.
I suggest you to try AMD Overdrive.
I would upgrade the bios to the F3. Probably works better with denebs.
ok admittedly i'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to this stuff
i just changed my nb frequency from auto to x10 (which i thought 200 x 10) would give me 2.0 ghz but it seems like all it did was boost the bus by like 10 mhz and the cpu speed by 10 mhz.... should i match it x17 like my cpu?
also what would the difference in f3 bios be other than vista/cpu-z/easytune recognizing my cpu as a phenom II deneb...instead of unknown model.. would there be any kind of performance boost etc? i mean ive set everything manually as is to get to where i'm at now...
im also scared of updating bios lol... i updated to F3 a week ago when i was trying to fix a sound issue(which had nothing to do with bios and i found a fix) and when i did... my vista wouldnt boot ( BOOTMGR IS MISSING) but luckily i was able to repair it with the vista disk.. had no issue flashing back to f2 tho
do i need to raise the bus speed on my cpu to get it to oc? seems like the hyper transport is stuck at 1.8... what if i raised cpu bus and lowered multiplier.. would that keep cpu same (if i did my math right) and raise hyper transport?
I have updated and downdated my bios at least 10 times from USB stick and only once it didn't work and it loaded the backup bios. So no problems on that area. You should have got 2GHz NB by setting the NB multi to x10... that COULD be just a problem in the bios. I can't say 'cos I have just a 9950 BE. I would update the Bios if I were you... Get AMD Overdrive http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_overdrive.aspx?p=1 I have had problems with the 2.1.5, though it should work with F3 bios.

yea the time the bios update screwed up i used the crappy windows updater..when i reflashed to f2 i used usb and it worked fine

it kinda went over my head :( lol
essentially all i did to OC my proc was raise the multiplier from x15 to x17... didn't even need to raise the voltage
and my ram wont let me set it at what i want to unless i enable EPP mode(which then does it automatically)
i guess f3 bios might let me?

MEMORY = 1066 mhz, 5-5-5-15 (however i seem to ONLY be able to achieve this by enabling EPP mode)
so my question now i guess is... how can i increase my HTT, and possibly my CPU too? ( i was able to run 3.5 ghz for a while but it blue screened after like an hour of pubbing COD4.. but could have to do with old bios/1.8 ghz stock htt, not increasing CPU voltage, myriad of factors)

HT Link Frequency = AUTO (setting this to 2.0 Ghz does NOT allow me to boot, however lowering it, does lower it)
EPP Mode = Auto
EPP Voltage Control = By EPP (previous 2 lines involving EPP = only way I can get my mem to clock @ 1066 Mhz and proper timings)
CPU Clock Ratio = x17
CPU Northbridge Freq = Auto (changing this multiplier alone does nothing)
CPU Host Clock Control = Auto
X CPU Frequency (Mhz) = 200 (default, and can only change this by changing previous line to manual, I have yet to touch this ever)
PCIE Clock (Mhz) = Auto
VGA Core Clock Control = Disabled (I have a nvidia XFX 9800 GT video card)
X VGA Core Clock (Mhz) = 700 (I have a nvidia XFX 9800 GT video card)
Set Memory Clock = Auto (Changing this to manual turns EPP OFF and causes memory to time wrong)
X Memory Clock = x5.33 1066 Mhz
----DRAM CONFIGURATION PRESS ENTER---- (It's set to auto w/ EPP)
System Voltage Control = Manual
Southbridge Volt Control = Normal

Just installed AMD OverDrive 2.1.6 and it works with the F3o BIOS and phenom 2.
