In general, is the beta version more stable than any of the other builds?
Where are you guys seeing the download?!?!
On the Windows 7 beta site, it says "Want the Beta? Come back on the afternoon of January 9th."
The technet link that someone posted just says "WINDOWS 7 BETA Coming soon!"
They had it up for a few minutes, but the servers crashed apparently, so they are trying to get a better setup online. Funny, everyone lines up for the betas, but the releases don't draw as much attention...
i've got some working links
x86
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...FRE_EN_DVD.iso
x64
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...FRE_EN_DVD.ISO
But this still doesn't give you the keys ;). Download speeds for me are 2MB a seconds, so...
Downloading x64 from the link right now, I'm getting about 700kb/s
Definatly my hero!
I vote that you get the cookie of the day! :D
At least I am getting a little more than 25kbps though. :p:
But still, even at 270kbps... weaksauce. Last game patch that I downloaded from some site I was getting just under 2mbps... really, come on microsoft. :shakes:
EDIT: Don't use Firefox right now to download!
Downloading the x64 link:
Firefox Avg = 270kbps
IE7 Avg= 1.2mbps
Really microsoft?
Does anyone know if you can upgrade 32 bit vista to 64 bit windows 7? Or if you can dual boot with this beta?
Regards
John.
Downloaded mine from the direct links posted over at the blog on Wired:
http://blog.wired.com/business/2009/...s-7-publi.html
Which I must are the same as above. Downloaded at about 1.5mb/s, completed no problem. Can't wait to get it up and running :).
No key of course, but the 30 trial shall suffice till I can nab that.
3.5MB/s here on campus. so hopefully it'll launch tonight and we'll all be part of the 2.5 mil eh.
Has this been postponed? Or was this already posted?
Technically already posted. From what I have found out, Microsoft had the link up for a small amount of time, and then pulled it because there where so many users. Apparantly, they will put it back up "Officially" when they get more servers hosting the ISO's.
For the time being though, you can download it from one of the links posted back on the third page:
X86
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...FRE_EN_DVD.iso
X64

As far as keys go, I would assume that you will be able to get them whenever they "Officially" re-post the download on these two sites:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/e.../dd353205.aspx
Thanks for the links. I was wondering if they were effected by this or not.
Got my key!
I did all the steps to join the beta using my .NET Passport account, but in the final step I got the error "The site is currently experiencing technical difficulties, please check back in the next business day."
I tried to access that final step's address in this same business day (https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperi...s/default.aspx) for hours, and finally, just a few minutes ago and after replacing the F5 key from the keyboard, it gave a beta key :toast:
I was logged in my passport account the whole time, so in case you are not, do it in some other Passport enabled site and then try opening that address.
Of course only if you did all the previous steps starting from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/e.../dd353205.aspx (which is down right now). Have patience
I have been doing the same as you, Pontos, but I am now getting a 404 error whenever I open the link that you get in that email.
I only got one email, with the subject "Verification E-Mail", from cnfrmpro at microsoft.com. I clicked the link inside it only once a few hours ago, and it worked back then (sending me to the https betaexperience address, which hasn't worked until moments ago).
Just make sure you are logged in the .NET Passport account you used when registering and try opening that site until it stops giving you the "try later" error.
It even showed a "Download" and "Install Instructions" buttons alongside the key.

Awesome!
Since I've had the same problem as you guys above, just clicking that link gave me a CDKEY, hehe.
Thanks!
