All of the Via chipset issues with agp/pci will be worked out in Bios revisions. The only thing I would wait for would be the NF3-250 chipset implemented on an Abit or Asus mb. :D
finally got it installed, couldn't sleep all night.
errm, think it was someone in thread talking bout recall, heatsink fitting, and i'll tell you why. With the bracket off my gigabyte board(i presume its fully standard) the 3 clips at the top end of the board actually touch the otes, so there is NO way to mount a sink without taking the otes unit right off, fits back on afterwards, but is possibly the funniest piece of stupid design i've seen.
What is with abit, lack of brains, nf7 delays and revisions to get 4 mobo holes on their, they knew before they even started we would all want 4 mobo holes. Stupid, then this, anyway, i now know why the board didn't come with a bracket, cos it woulda shown how stupid they can be. :p
Either way, messing now, installed windows, more bios review tricks, working at 204Mhz standard and after cmos reseting. Other stuff, after a few changes in bios, the alarm kicks in, for no apparent reason, jsut to check i went into windows with it going after checking temps/voltages in bios. Worked fine, clearing cmos, worked, but completely stupid. So far its overvolting on all the lines, but my psu is giving readings of 3.49v on the 3.3, 12.49 and 5.2 or so. What a loverly psu, showed same on gigabyte overclock utility. Thermaltake 480W silent. Also, ram timings, whatever i set, some things will change, some won't. ras cas and ras ras? i forgetm but both stay at 4/3 respectively.
This does seem like an early bios though, need to check number, see if the one now finally downloadable is a diff one or not. The guru utility DOESN'T contain the overclock utility. will dl the new one(think its new) and see whats up.
ANyway, updates as i can, errm, overvolting on all lines, probo down to psu, but 3.2v vdimm works, and dunno bout vcore, i tried up to 1.65 and it was working fine. Also, Extrememly small steps for vcore overclocking, by 0.01 at a time, not bad for extreme tweakers.
Please keep us posted ! of the bigest interest to me with it being the Via board are the agp/pci bus dividers.
will do need to get a 3 pin jumper a sort a cmos switch as this beeping is killing me, every 4-5th boot, think thats it, nowt to do with what i've changed, it jsut beeps :@ then i gotta cmos which is bad enough, and then redo all bios settings.
Either way, in teh bios you cna hit F8 a click new settings into gear, voltages, clocks, whatever, i tried 233 straight up, froze up, was fine with small overclock, so dunno, will try again with more voltage. what kinda voltage we looking for at 2.33Ghz?
I was stuck at 1.58v on the giga so no idea what the voltage situation is for diff speeds.
EDIT:- would a cd/dvd audio connector work ya think, don't need minimum ampage wire do i? hope not :p
I would think 1.65 would do it, but just a guess. Not sure if you can go much more than that with air cooling without heat becoming a factor in your OC.
I have been away placating my wife yesterday so did not read any more of this thread until today.
The Uguru feature in the manual shows multiplier and divider options as well as CPU/AGP/PCI but in real life they are not there as this chip is locked. BIOS does not alter it either. All UGURU does is allow voltages and FSB change, which is still pretty good but of course you cannot change the 1:1 to 5:6 for memory in this utility .
In regards to CMOS siren I got it once after setting my RAM to 2-5-2-2 from 2-5-2-4 at 3v and a reboot cleared it. I tried using the F8 overclock on the fly feature and it appeared to do bugger all. I'd leave it well alone as it might be why you are getting beeps/sirens. I don't like things overclocking for me ;)
I will do as Macci suggested tonight and play around with clockgen (260 at 5:6 ratio is 216Mhz for Memory and my XMS 3500 Corsair will do 220+ fine at those timings) ...260 at 8 multiplier is 2080 and that should be no porblem at all, even with no 12v 4 pin still.
I will have to get my psu sorted out first as it still isn't running with the 4 pin 12v connector attached and although it has been doing distributed computing rock solid for 24 hours I suspect this might effect overclocking substantially ..the damn thing is still at stock 2Ghz after 2 days :eek:

zakelwe, if you using it without the 4pin 12v P4 connector you might want to check the 12v (yellow) wires on the ATX connector where it connects to the mb, I've seen the insulation melt as well as the plastic on the connnector b4 when running too much current through the ATX connector. Just a word of warning. ;)
Macci, the BIOS works slightly different to how you state. You cannot give it a FSB and then select the divisors, you can only select the FSB and then it selects the divisor to best suit. I'd have to be up around 250 - 260 to get the 7 and as the multiplier is locked my aircooled chip will struggle ! :)Quote:

See if clockgen will report the AGP/PCI speeds like they are shown in the BIOS (its possible that clockgen might not read them correctly thou).
If the 1/7 is acually working you should have no problems hitting over 260FSB with lower multiplier.
You can also try this: boot up at stock speeds, load clockgen and adjust multiplier to say 8x, restart windows normally, go to BIOS and set it to say 240FSB 1/7 divider (with safe RAM divider) and load OS. The multiplier SHOULD still be at 8x so now you can try some FSB clocking with 1/7 divider :)
What kind of adjustements does the ABit windows OCtool (oc-guru??) offer? can you adjust multiplier or even better AGP/PCI dividers with it?
300 with 8 divider is 75/37.5 so that is quite correct :)

If I use clockgen to set to 8 multiplier and it stays at this through a reboot then of course then I can put the FSB up and go from there, I'll set it to certain values and read off the AGP / PCI values that clockgen gives when I am in Windows.

LOL that's a cheery thought Major as I am at work and not at home. I'll check that out tonight when I get home. The Antec 550w Trucontrol has got stuck at 11.76v on that line as well ( I am getting a replacement ) so hopefully the current will be down slightly as well V-IR and all that electrical stuff )Quote:

well I didn't mean to alarm you ! The TV station I worked at had upgraded everyones mb's from P3's to P4's and didn't replace the psu's with higher wattage/p4 versions so none of them had the 4pin connected on the mb's. I'd say after 4 or 5 of them melted they got smart and bought new PSU's ! lol
meh, so far 233 just won't work, tried 1.6v in bios, and it was doing 1.6 when set to about 1.54 in bios. So either my chip is not up to it at all, or....... something screwy.
Will try altering multi and trying 233 with a 8 or 9 multi. update soon, but so far, not looking to peachy. stupid alarm, its really getting om my nerves. its not form the f8 thing, only tried that once and it worked fine.
The guru thing is showing you fsb and ratios in windows, i can't see them, what version are you using?
drunkenmaster, try to use clockgen as macci suggested. maybe u can set the cpu multiplier there.
well, tried all the basics now, dropping multi to 8, fsb to 233Mhz, the multis are deffo working, booted into windows at 1600mhz.
With mem set to ddr333, and low timings, to make sure its not the mem, it still wouldn't do 233Mhz, upped ldt voltage a little, cpu too, though it wouldn't need it.
Time to mess with bus width of ldt rates, down to 600Mhz i guess, see what happens,. but not too hopeful right now :(
ok, not even setting up downstream ldt to 8 bit, 200mhz, 266mhz mem, 4 multi and 233 or 266 worked, tried just incase the 1/7 wasn't working but a 1/.8 was, no such luck.
So far nothing i've tried has gotten me a boot high yet. ANy ideas?
Try your ram with only one stick and try all three different Dimm's

nope, using clock gen m8. also crystal cpuid will do it. will try to find site link to where i dl'd from, but basically does the same thing exactly as clock gen.
You need to use the OCGURU utility and then the F1 tab...it only gives FSB though, not multipliers on my locked chip.Quote:

If you don't have OCGURU ( but all the other GURU features in program manager ) then download the latest from the Abit site, my CD did not have it on.
Interesting about the beeps and that your F8 overclock on the fly works ..mine doesn't.
I'm starting to think you ahve a different BIOS or else my AMD 64 3200 is locked and yours isn't. Is yours a CAAM or a CAAK ?
If clockgen doesn't change the multiplier when I test it tonight then I suspect the chip is fully locked.

at the moment, errm, hit think sisoft mem bench went through at 220Mhz, any higher and hard lock from windows, won't boot from outside.
I can't believe its cpu psu, or at that point, the pcz i was using as that was all fine at 225mhz, at 1.58vcore. which it did fine.
Completely crap bios is my thinking, can't see why the chipset wouldn't give me more ratio's, they are there, we should be able to use them.
For everyone else we both have the abit Guru manual, aswell as normal manual, in it they have a picture of the o/c utility which clearly shows, with the text too, that you can change ratio/multiplier.fsb, voltage of cpu, ddr, and agp aswell as showing you the current agp/pci speeds. we deffo do NOT have that version of the utility. maybe they can't make it work, if not, why advertise it in the manual, if they can make it work, blooming give it too us :@

Also, i live in london, about 5 mins drive from overclock, they rule for early stuff. i had a 2200+, 9700+ before 99% of people worldwide, we got the ati cards VERY early , its all good. If only early was a good thing with mobo's .

On the web site it shows UGRU OC without the ratio's and in the manual it does. I suppose if the chip is unlocked then it does show it. Is this AMD64 unlocked or not ? it seems to be unlocked for clockgen but not for the BIOS or the UGURU utility.
Yes, the RAM slots are too close to the graphics card, this reminds me of the nforce2 situation where it was even closer and people were knocking components off on Epox boards etc.
I suppose your 4 pin 12v connector is in the motherboard and works fine, unlike mine ? If it does work OK what happens when you take it out, do your problems get worse or get better ?
What are all your voltages again ?

Playing around with clockgen program now.
Changing the memory speed to 266 and the sirens are going off, as mentioned above. Any change out of thew ordinary and the sirens go off, however by going into the UGURU program it automatically silences this.
The clockgen program allows changes but I could not see where it showed the AGP/PCI ratio.
Even with the memory at 266 and a 8 multiplier I got lock up at 240FSB. More sirens on reboot :D This UGURU chip is a noisy fecker.
Will play with it later with some beers. Supect the hyperrterminal needs more voltage, but did someone mention things blowing up ?

There seems to be a problem with FSB speeds higher than 220 or so , at least using UGURU, so replicating drunkenmasters findings
with 266MHZ for memory and 7 mulitipler
I tried 220 and it locked up.
I rebooted and then went up in 10Mhz steps and at 250 it locked up
I rebooted and tried 240 and it locked up
I rebooted and went to 240 and it was ok, went down to 220 and it locked up :rolleyes: bit strange that.
Also, everytime you make any little change with the BIOS settings or it locks up then the siren goes off from the UGURU chip until you get into windows and go into the UGURU EQ utlitly which resets it. I am using bluetack on the onboard speaker to get around this annoyance.
I tried putting the hyperterminal voltage up ( as in effect this is what I am testing though being old fashioned I refer to it as FSB ) but this did not help.
Maybe UGURU is not right, so I am testing now with BIOS increases and and at 220x10 and it is ok. Will work my way up.
This may be an isssue with the Abit board, ie not very high FSB, which is bad news, however it may be an issue with anyone using any board aircooled ?? It is possible that it is not the chip Mhz topping out at 220-230 but actually the hypertransport topping out at 220-230. I tried the 11 multiplier on clock gen but it did not work.
I noticed a lot of air cooled people at 2200-2400. I wonder if they had an 11 multiplier whether they would be at 2500 :)
Or is it the Abit board that cannot hit 250FSB ?!!!!!!
Anyone with a Prommie and an Abit to show it can ?
Any thoughts from the more experienced guys ?

I've started overclocking it and at default voltages it hit 2300 ..and at +0.2v it still hit 2300Mhz
Either this is my dicky 12v line or else it is the same as every other aircooled person, has .. brick wall at 2300-2400.
It's still faster than the dual channel P4 800FSB at 3750Mhz though ..that got 54.86s pifast, I am into the 53s with this at 2300.
The Corsair memory happy at 230Mhz 2-5-2-2, probably has a lot more in it.

try lowing your TRCD to 3.
my Asus K8V is absolute garbage with TRCD at 2, but at 3 I can hit 2.5 ghz with relative ease.
for some reason I have a very solid wall at 2.5 ghz, but then again this is only air cooling so what can I really expect huh ;)
