I don't think that the fact that the data was up there was preventing people from doing their own testing and I don't particularly think we're going to see much change in the matter.
Doing good testing takes money, time, and patience, things a lot of people lack including myself.

Well Martin I can't say I blame you, I'm actually surprised you stuck it out this long... People don't understand how laborious, tedious and time consuming it all is. I don't understand pulling all of your data, makes no sense to me whatsoever but as has been said, it is yours to do with what you want. There have been offers to host it, and I'll throw out another, I will host it too if you want I've already got a dedicated web server so it is no problem. I've been done testing for a while myself, my test bench is no longer. Anyway, I wish you the best man with whatever your next hobby is.
Sorry, the data is not coming back, let me try and explain my thoughts and decision.
I've shared what I've learned, you've had an opportunity to read through it up until yesterday, my mission of sharing what I've learned is done. I never said I would continue to publish my results in perpetuity. That costs money and frankly I'm not interested in doing that in any form. They are only tests and thoughts, tests by one person, using one particular method, and under one set of conditions. As I've heard before and agree with, there is no one perfect test that you can draw definitive conclusions from for every type of condition and I'm often wrong, and I make mistakes like everyone else. To really understand how anything performs you need a community of people willing to contribute to the cause, not any one person.
I've had to think back and dig deep to understand what it was that inspired me to spend so much time doing something that was over time lost. That core value and inspiration was nothing more than a desire for knowledge and thirst for learning. Even more specific it was the "Lack" of information and "Mystery" that made it so much fun for me. How does this perform, what happens if I do that...etc. There seemed to be much more testing interest in the forums when I first came here, there were alot of people testing and sharing of results, and "THAT" is what I enjoyed most about this place...the discussions about performance and figuring things out. So in some respects a "Lack" of information or data can be a good thing too.
Also, let's face it, performance differences between most of the parts out there is fairly small and insignificant depending on your values. So....over time I began to think perhaps my thought and mission to provide "Good Data" and help users make buying decisions was at the same time working against the incentive for other people to test.
So with that, I've decided the data itself just wasn't worth continuing to hold on to and was counterproductive in the incentives that made this hobby fun for me. There are alot of great testers in these forums and my one wish is for people to quit the bickering and post trolling and start testing and sharing of information.
Water cooling is supposed to be recreational, it's not mandatory, and it's not a perfect science. It took me a while to figure out what it was that made it fun for me, and I did what I needed to do to put the recreation back in it for me. Maybe it'll help mend some of the problems we've had in these forums too.:shrug:
Money has nothing to do with it, it never has. I've always declined offers for advertising and even decline several offers to test and write for other sites. Of coarse there were many times when my wife gave me the evil eye as yet another box of parts arrived at the door, but in context it was a relatively cheap hobby. A couple of hundred bucks in testing gear and time, I can easily spend that in one family weekend. Everyone has always been very generous to me. It has never been about the money, hosting is not key to my decision, I've just simply lost interest testing and continuing to publish the data I've collected.
I just needed a break from it all and that included the website and data that's published. I can now completely relax, and I appreciate your support in that!
Thank you for taking the time to explain your reasoning - your forthrightness as always, is genuinely appreciated. You've set the bar very high, not just with your testing, but also with your integrity and sincere enthusiasm. IMHO, you deserve to do what you choose with your body of work. I'm confident that folks like skinnee will rise to the occasion and perhaps not fill your shoes (I've heard he has small feet), but will continue on the path that you've created.

To those that offered server space, I'd doubt you'd want to host his stuff anyway because aside from XS, there are at least 2 E-tailers I know of and IIRC, at least 2 manufacturers that were pointing to Martin's reviews, and I haven't even mentioned all the other forums (ooopps, just did :para:) that caught wind of his site. Needless to say, traffic would be very heavy indeed. ;)

I am starting my first WC rig, I always use your site as a reference and test it out myself sadly I only bookmarked the site I didn't do any back up but I have read the articles on your site 2 to 3 times maybe that could be a start.

Martin - thank you for your work over the years, it will be missed.
Since you decided to scrap your data, the one thing i would request is that you give more information about your testing methodology. I have yet to find anything that really details how you go about testing different components, and what kind of testing equipment is needed to accomplish this. I see people talking about testing this or that, but virtually no information on HOW to go about doing the same.
If you want to encourage others to do testing, pulling information pertaining on how to test and the equipment required makes no sense whatsoever.

sorry to see you leave martin, the information on your site was nothing short of phenomenal, and I have to say you really did seem like one of the old school guys who didn't bicker and just looked at things with the right approach.
now maybe everyone that immediatly jumped up and said "martin test this please" or "could you send a sample to martin" will just do what we all did when watercooling was newish, look at what was out, and buy what we thought was good, and not bicker about this block being better then that block.
I applaud the logic behind your decision, and I hope that what you would hope to happen in the future does, because like you, I think the whole community would benefit from that change.

No need to say goodbye all together, I'll be around, just not going to do the testing anymore is all. Taking the job back out of the hobby and that simply means shutting the website down and testing effort. If I take those two things away, I'm back to leisure and that's what I'm after. The ability to hang out without the stress of testing or the website. I still enjoy the forums and all the discussion here.
Testing methods are something I'm sharing with Skinnee. He has already talked about doing some of that on his site anyhow. We've been talking regularly via email and will continue to do so..:up:
