Now, take off your cpu block, wipe off the thermal interface material and use baby butt balm... just joking :D:ROTF::rofl:

Nice job on the fans. Let them dry real well before running them. Or if you are sadistic like my brother, he runs them right after coming out of the water, wet molex and all. He says the fans dry faster lol :rofl:

Nice job on your fans, they look like they have never been used, or did the postman drop the off?

petra's yates have been out of stock for a long time, I couldn't order new ones even if I wanted :p:

:ROTF::ROTF: only problem now is that my hands have been smelling like baby wipes all day :rolleyes:

and I am not nearly as brave as your brother, they stayed in the sun all day long.. I was about to put everything back into the case but ran into a small problem with the new vga cooler and the old cooper ramsinks... so the card is currently in the freezer, once I get the sinks out I can hopefully hook everything back up (- water cooling)

its been a looong day... everything is as clean as it gets... I finished hooking it all back up, sorted the cables a bit...pluged it back in...........and.....well......it still works...BUT... the fan on the PSU will not spin :soap:

ah the irony......... the only fan I did NOT wash, died :rolleyes: :ROTF:

the PSU is a silverstone strider 600w.. I tried to just vacuum it but the dust was all sticky and it wouldn't even move. So I removed the grill and the top cover from the PSU and vacuumed inside(carefully). Then I used some 99% alcohol and some baby wipes on the fan blades, and closed it back up. and yet somehow the fan died. :confused:

Questions.. is it possible that I have just unplugged the fan? I thought PSU fans were soldered? (I didn't even touch the wire, I just cleaned the blades)

Can I replace the fan with a Yate? and is it possible to do that without having to solder it? I don't know how to solder, but would hate to lose a psu because of a lousy fan :(

any help is really appreciated :up:

Some psu fan aren´t soldered, they come with the regular 3 pin plug. You can easily swap then, but check if you partially pluged it while cleaning.

Can the PSU be jump started?

Make sure its not the mobo that is accidentally shorted.

Make sure you have the right case plug in the right mobo pins. The cables to the ATX connector are secure? 4 pin connector?

yes, change the psu fan to a slow or medium yate or even the LED lighted yate to make it look cool/cooler... also check those connections inside the PSU, follow the fan wires, some PSU even have external wiring to connect to mobo header......

IanY, the PSU still works, the PC will boot just fine, everything else is working, only thing that won't work is the PSU fan :(

I just opened it up... no such luck

as you guys can see from all the remaining dust, I didn't even go near it. I have no idea on how to fix this, there is no opening on the PSU case that I could use to route the yate wiring to the mobo. I could:

a) try to drill a small hole on the side of the PSU case

b) try to solder it, even tho I have never done soldering on wires before

Well since your psu warranty is void anyway I would drill a small hole and lead the wires to the mobo then :)

Not a good idea to dip the PSU into water to get the dust off the fan... sorry... just some corny humor... sorry to joke in a time like this.

Whatever you do, make sure you let the PSU discharge a full 24 hours before attempting to solder anything.

I can't tell you what to do. You are you, and I am I. I know I would run down to the computer store and buy myself another PSU. Soldering wires in a PSU.... errr... I like my house very much... I like my life even more :)

Yeah I hear you IanY. Just so disappointing to see the PSU still working and having to replace it because of a 5 bucks fan. I honestly could care less about having to drill the case but I am definitely worried about the dangers of this.

Would the PSU still shut down if overheated, and basically have all the protections it used to? the pc will run 24/7 so if any protections are lost, I will just chuck the psu in the trash..

void warranty, change PSU cover to clear acrylic, drill some holes for wiring, get a LED yate, add some bling to your pc...

else like Iany said it, still good for testing other stuffs...

hehe sorry, I was frustrated when posting and couldn't pick a better new home for it....but yeah, it could still be handy.

I found a reasonable deal on a Corsair 620, will be ordering one tomorrow morning.

the corsair arrived, and the system is up and running so I just wanted to add a couple pics of it after cleaning:

was planning to use the yates on the TRU but forgot about the closed corners and was too lazzy to cut them down.. So went with the only new fan I had left.. temps are actually decent, and this pc doesn't see heavy loads anyway so I kept the fans to a minimum.

Next time I upgrade/change something on this case, I want to finally add some holes to the mobo tray, and try to get better at cable management, but its good enough for now...
