Thanks Napalm,
The problem is Newegg doesn't guarantee a particular Batch # so what you guys do? Return it and try again?

believe it or not its my first yorky.. and my first B cpu
ive never returned cpus because im not satisfied with the oc/batch.. doesnt mean if some do everyones doing it
if you want a better cpu than the average.. look for the B @ batch or for the 000 or B + 000 now thats a cherry pick
i got A + 666 q6700.. does it mean its anti-oc? ocing just fine
idk whats so special about my clocks.. even if ill get it to run fully stable @ 4500 on the blackops its still far from spectacular..
Ok guys I will be playing with this soon. I got a really good deal for it $439 (479 w/ shipping - microsoft cashback promotion) on eBay.
Problem is I can't really choose any stepping.

This is the best deal out there for Q9650. No waiting for rebate or cashback.
Thanks mngdew! I was just about to order this CPU from Newegg and just caught your post...I literally was about to click the order button and was saved last second. That's a great price for this CPU...I should have my Rampage Extreme on Monday as well....gonna have fun playing with these two together!
I live in NJ so no tax ;)
Shipping rates were very good too...I only paid $9 for 2 day shipping :D
I will be using this and my QX9770 on the Rampage Extreme once it gets here...I'll keep you posted on how it does...funny how a stepping change makes such a big improvement on performance...my QX9650 is a 130 watt CPU while the new Q9650 is only a 95 watt part...I think with the right mobo/cpu 500fsb 24/7 is not out of the question for this CPU...right now, I need to figure out how to apply GTL settings on the Rampage Extreme.
so i got the blackops today and boy watta contrast vs mars..
no matter the volts/settings i cant get it to run 450x9 stable.. barely boots into windows and shortly after freezes :(
the P5 bios is a joke and may be worse than the P2 which came with the mobo..
i cant believe how good/great mars is vs blackops.. why oh why did i destroy it.. :(
while im waiting for better bios.. looks like ill be going to another p35 mobo.. abit pro35xe maybe or another mars if i could
no wonder im having a hard time getting into windows @ 4050 on blackops

1.35vcore @ bios
even dips to 0.880 @ cpuz
i think that thats a WR for low voltage 4ghz
^look im not here to set low v wr :)
saaya foxconn rep??
thanks.. alright.. where are you saaya you saayasan.. :)
well ive reseated the cpu.. pins all fine.. installed the cpu on another mobo: vcore good
this blackops default bios: 0.736vcore @ cpuz :(
Hey guys
Nice clocks ! seems that this chip gets always to 4000Mhz, i love that number tough i could never reached that on my Q6600, best was 3906...Are there any bad batches of this Q9650 ? I've seen al go well to the 4000Mhz..that's my aim..I'm also on water
Cheers
Sergio
1.25vcore fully stable @ 4050
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...6&postcount=61
1.375vcore booted into windows @ 4500 :)
like ive said before.. no matter the voltages/settings it wont run 4050 stable @ 1.35vtt/1.35vcore/1.62vpll just to boot @ os
vcore/vtt/vpll all affected
just cause the bios shows the right voltage doesnt mean its the actual voltage.. somewhere along the line smtg is screwed up on this blackops
Well I use those exact voltages for my 4050 450FSB 24/7 stable in prime95, and 50 runs of linpack. I'm actually typing from it now, even. And I don't use bios or software for voltages, ever, DMM is your friend. The problem is CPU-Z.
Admittedly, I have QX9650, C0, But I can guarantee that you need some tweaking, or it's teh cpu, not the board, as this board has provided more FSB than any other I have tried so far, ever, for 45nm quad.
I can easily boot into 460FSB, but I have not done much work on stability yet(this is P05 bios):
