that's one of the reasons i'll skip the first nehalem-wave as well. the later releases will probably be cheaper and more matured.

I think Nehalem will hit the ground running. I'd be surprised to see bugs and glitches considering how long Intel has been validating them. Sales are starting to slow down because the US crappy economy starting to affect others or so went a story on CNBC. RAM and Board prices will affect Nehalem sales. Intel will be Intel's stiffest competition. Cheap DDR2, Q9300 & Q9450 with $100 to 150 boards will make buying Nehalem a tuff choice for many who aren't so "Xtreme".

Again, the price of DDR3 will fall once it becomes mainstream and right now it is NOT!

I agree. The cost of DDR3 is what is stopping me from going anywhere near Nehalem, maybe even until they do the 22nm shrink. I payed 200 bucks for 2 good 4 gig kits. $200 will get you a good 2 gig kit of ddr3. In the vista age, that isn't going to cut it.

I'd sooner retire my q6600 and go 45nm at least until the prices drop. Early adopters always get stuck w/ the high costs and if my memory serves me right, the later batches of processors usually OC better.

considering how "cheap" ddr3 already is i say ddr3 is mainstream, heck 4 gb ddr3-1333 for 140€? (20% vat incl.) thats a bargain.

End even CL6 1333 4 gb moduls sell for 170€

i bought my CL-8 2gb ddr3-1800 for 360€ half a year ago, and there wasn't really an option to go for slower rams, cause the prices sucked badly back then (CL9 ddr3-1333 for 290€ ? hell no i, i took the 70€ more and got better value out of this i own now).

Not even to mention people already buy DDR3 today. And that its so cheap if you dont buy some 2Ghz modules...

DDR3 isnt really expensive, you can get 2GB decent DDR3 for 150$, or 4 GB for 285$ like the one I have linky.
The problem with DDR3 is the low price of DDR2, DDR2 is currently so dirt cheap that you can get 8GB DDR2 for the price of 2 GB DDR3 which leads to people upgrading to more DDR2 and not the faster DDR3 instead.

Costs 2.5 times as much in many cases and some of the RAM costs 3+ times as much. The prices aren't bad but there are too many good prices on DDR2 800MHz, to pass up for most folks IMHO. Edit -800MHz.

I use DDR 2 800 with my Wolfdale because when I tested DDR2-1066 and it was hard to tell the difference other than in SSSnadra and the price. My 4GB (2X2GB) of Muskin 5-4-4-12 RAM costs $60 US after MIB. My bud's DDR3 1066 after rebate price was $92 for two 1GB sticks.

Guys, DDR2 is the Mainstream RAM, not DDR3. There are too many DDR2 based systems on the market and still shipping. On a recent walk through Best Buy, only 2 out of about 15 systems had DDR3. Sure the prices are falling and buying DDR3 RAM isn't as painful as it was just 3 months ago.

Oh and sure most of us have paid more for RAM in the past. My 2nd purchase of DDR2 was 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 (2 X 1GB) for $192.00. I could see myself buying 4GB of DDR3:up:

Sure but that wasn't the point. 2GB of DDR3 still costs about 3 times as much as 4GB of DDR2.

indeed ddr3 is cheap. remember just over a year and a half ago, what we were paying for ram? 120ar for 2x1gb d9gmh was a steal. and then a month after that, it rocketed to maybe even 200 or so. But all I think we can remember is the pricing starting from last summer, and being spoiled ever since. And no, I don't believe we'll see 2gb for $20ar when nehalem launches :P

I think the price of DDR3 will be a lot better by the time Nehalem is Ramped up. Buying it ahead of time isn't the best thing to do. When Nehalem ships, DDR3 will be not only cheaper but better in some instances. Good 4GB Kits of DDR3 can be had for about $200. I'd wait for them to cost something like $139 for that same kit.

Quick correction: Nehalem will not exist on 22nm. The architecture will exist on 32nm in the form of the Westmere shrink, but after that, Sandy Bridge debuts at 32nm and *its* shrink will be on 22nm.

I've got the same ram. It works nice, plus you get the 3Dmark with it.

I'm so hesitant whether to get a Q9550 and one of those DFI X48s or hold off till nehalem and get a nice case for my birthday. The case wont be obsolete by then will it?

Now if I'm one of the whiners, its because I don't believe in wasting money. I saw nothing that would make me pay more for DDR3 at any speed. I also picked the cheapest RAM to make my case. By the time Nehalem hits its stride there'll better DDR3 on the market anyway.

I keep checking Newegg and they now have some good deals on a few models of DDR3. Leave it to them to get the US price down. DDR3 will be affordable by Q4 (I bet). I am just happy I did not jump on a DDR3 board when they first came out.
