How about black plastic ABS from home depot? Bet your material costs about the same and should be a bit tougher.

How about black plastic ABS from home depot? Bet your material costs about the same and should be a bit tougher.
Ill check it out- I am loving the tensile strength of this PVC though....
thanks for the suggestion
Regards
mmmmmm if i need my evap replaced by "cc" maybe i can get one of these and "Test" it
sure thing mate. lmk what needs to be done. 99.99999% sure you won't need evap replaced but if you need/want new mounting with insulation its yours you can "test" one for me.
regards
your mounting/insulation works with the chilly1? is it a universal thing?
yeah, as long as you have the snapring installed on the chilly this would work well with it. (if you see the inner "lip" on the inside of the mounting, that part sits on the snapring of the chilly1 then the only difference is heigth which is easy, as i use 1.5" copper as well on my evaps like chillly1)
cool, ill look into it, i know when i dropped my unit off with captain he said he could probably work something out with the foam, sorry too if i come off as an a**hat, i know you didnt mean to have anything happen to my unit and no way am i taking it out on you, sorry man your a stand up act for even bothering with me
no worries mate :)
Bad news.
pvc is a no go. this may sound gross but i just drilled 2 plates and bored a ho le in each one- i have a HORRIBLE headache and felt sick to my stomach and had horrible diarrhea... Decided o post a thread in a machining forum and they said stay away... very toxic...
Need to find a replacement... too bad im really liking this pvc... but obviously safety first. The safest "i have heard" are polyethylene and polycarbonate is a little worse but nothign like nylon or pvc. i need to start wearing a respirator and vent the air when im milling plastic. I will try this with High density polyethylene (low density failed loL) and polycarbonate. gotta do some research on tensile strength in various plastics.
Looks like top will be white :( another wasted 20$. bah. have 2 done here in pvc though, more pictures 2maro when i make a second muff.
regards
Why not grab a breathing mask?
im not going to mess with that
If you use compressed air & a vortex tube to cool the pvc & bit you can machine it safely. Overheating releases the toxic fumes, you have to keep everything cool.
walt- i wasn't having so many problems while milling but while using my disc sander to get it to the right size to fit in my drilling jig(thanks cpt plante :) ) and when cutting them on my high- tooth mitre saw i was getting ridiculos amounts of fumes... Just not something i really want to mess with. ive got a lot of life left in me (i hope?) and don't want to do anything i will regret when im older. especially when its the color of the mounting that will mostly be under insulation lol.
Gotta play with ABS and HDPE, along with polycarbonate but i would love to find a cheaper black or gray solution then acetal...
You can use compressed air and a vortex tube anywhere you want to remove heat without using a liquid coolant. I have one that blows -30c air on the cool discharge air side. They are used a lot in machining aluminum and titanium alloys where oil can't be used as a coolant, mostly aerospace. There a little on the expensive side,a few hundred dollars @ least.....plus the air compressor.
thats not terrible for coolant- but still id rather just switch materials to somethign i feel safer about. :/ much cheaper to just use acetal instead.
So its a cold air gun? you can make one for not to bad i think (150$?) but its just sub-ambient not -30c. I mean a fogbuster is what, 400$? as soon as i have a enclosure i will switch to flood coolant.
It's a vortex gun, check wiki for more info.
Reed, mind PM'ing me on that mount you just made? Does it flex too much? I need something to fit a chilly1 I have laying around.
Please i was talking about a cold air gun... perhaps they are different. cold air just slightly evaporates moisture to get it sub-ambient. Mist is a great coolant but the fog is horrible for your health.
Walt, does a vortex gun clear chips?
yeah ill hop you a PM tonight. (late for a tee-off time atm...)
regards
Don't roll those eyes at me ;) JK
A vortex gun will clear chips.
quick search says there the same thing:rolleyes:        :p:
I am torn between using polycarbonate and high density polyethylene for the mounts. For insurance im thinking of using 3/8" thick, the pvc was 1/4" and i couldn't flex it 1/64" unless i tried to break it...
gah. such small matters to stress over
thats way to expensive...

quick lapp to 1000 grit :) almost ready to go... screws i have are about 1/8" to short.... tomorrow at 7 ups delivers longer ones.
can't wait for you to get her JB :)
Nice job, soon you'll have Piotres jealous. maybe ;)
