I'm going to Fry's today to see if I can swap one out... if not then OEM @ newegg is my best bet.

I've been testing a P5K Premium + Q6600 L803A887 system this week (using it now)
These new batch has a new type of heat spreader (like the 45nm parts), its very flat and has a small round indent in one corner
Had to lap my TRUE as it "rolled" on this heatspreader
This chip has a vid of 1.2625v and is an average overclocker
Results achieved so far:
Overclock:
400x9 @ 1.38v (as reported by cpu-z 1.4v in bios) unstable (reboot after 5-40min prime)
400x9 @ 1.424v stable (2hours 5min of prime)
Anything from 420-445x9 @ 1.45-1.58v unstable ( less that 1min of prime)
Temps:
When attempting to hit 4GHz temps shot beyond 70C before system rebooted
At 3.6Ghz and vcore between 1.38-1.42 temps stay about 27-33C idle and 57-63C undet load (room temp between 19-21C)
cores 0 and 1 run 3 degrees hotter than cores 2 and 3, dont know why, I use a ~3mm washer under the TRUE's mounting mechanism for increases preassure
Edit: Temps reported by RealTemp v 2.24
1.265? That's not average for the new L800+ batches... all of them I've seen so far have 1.325 and are absolute lemons for OCing.
I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on a L7xx.
I understood that. You're pretty lucky though.
correction on vid.. its actually 1.2750
I just got rid of the L804 I had. I'm CLEAN IM CLEAN!!!!!
I have L804A428. VID is 1.325V. Currently stable at 3.2Ghz with 1.31V. I would say I got a bad batch. The box color is dark blue like the new 45nm Core 2s.
So best bet for a L745 batch (seems best), is neweeg OEM? not retail right?
Not necessarily, Trays could be shipping L804s now...
Hi everyone, i just got my q6600 today and its one of the new dark blue boxs its an L803 but without the weird hole thing, i just checked in core temp and its got a VID of 1.2375v, i dont no much about these q6600`s as its my first quad, is this any good?, its at 3ghz at stock volts and intel fan right now, im gonna fit a scythe infinity + 2x 120mm 92cfm fans and go for a higher oc.

That is a pretty good VID. My L803 has a 1.300 VID and needs 1.49V to get to 3600mhz.
My L746 sucks. Can't get past 3.6Ghz. I'm about ready to get a Xeon X3350.
I don't have a mobo to test with, so I already took back my L804 due to the flood of bad results.
Whats considered safe temps for the GO stepping quads?
The one I just got from Frys was a L743B300 in the new style box pack date 03/13/08 with a 1.2375 VID. I stuck in a Linux cruncher at 1.45 setting bios and is doing 3.6Ghz....
Sorry to bombard you with questions mate but I see in your sig you modded your scythe infinity, was this easy to do and how much better are your temps? only asking cause i hate these stupid plastic intel clips, ive just fitted the infinity and i had to use a lot of force to get the clips down and it doesnt feel too sturdy. The temp is at 33c idle . Cheers
