An AMD workstation board with 4 cores around 2.8ghz might not be leading the pack, but it's not exacltly a slouch.
AGP is a limited market, but they're still producing PCI cards so I don't see what the surprise is over this one.
over the long term, its not a good investment. if everything is overclocked and stuff, how much longer can a cpu and mobo from 2003 live? then ur stuck with an agp graphics card and no board to put it in.
and if u do buy one, i hope you have at least a high clocked p4 with hyperthreading. 3850 isnt great, and will end up being a bottleneck in most newer games anyway, but cpu's like the athlonxp don't meet the minimum requirements for lotsa games.
My old media server has a Pentium 2.4C @ 3.0 Ghz and 2GB of BH-5 RAM @ 2-2-2-5. $200 really isn't much; I might throw this card in there (and replace the 7600 GT) just to see if I can squeeze a little more out of the old girl. :D

I know this from A/B benchmark comparisons I've read, between 7600GTs and HD3850 AGPs...
On a current generation mobo/processor/chipset with an AGP slot, the difference is even more dramatic! ;)
