this is a really nice guide for beginners.
would be great if you also included specific timings and subtimings for DFI boards.

I bought this memory to go into my DFI DK X38. Should I be expecting any problems? any suggestions?
my system booted with a DFI DK x38 + q6600 with the fsb strap auto at 333/x
Memory booted stock at 1000mhz 5-5-5-5 at 1.9V
Everything was fine. Never got a chance to OC any because after installing vista SP1. I decided to update my mobo's bios before Ocing.
Followed DFI's instructions with WINFLASH on their website which never said anything about vista x64 being a problem.
Winflash crashed and left me with a curropt bios. Plus this mobo has no removable bios chip.
= RMA. Will report back
6 days later no response. talk about helpful. haha
If you had actually looked around a bit you would have noticed that many people are running those G.Skills little brother (the 4gb 8000 kit) in different x38 boards with no problems at all. The kit you bought is just a higher bin with a 8 layer pcb, I see no reason why it shouldn't work well. Remember, search is your friend.
Oh and btw, no matter what ANY motherboard maker tells you, _NEVER_ flash your BIOS with Windoze based tools. Do it from a USB stick. Just don't buy this marketing bull and save yourself a RMA. That is if you want to be on the safe side and if you like your motherboard... if not, then do go on flashing via Windows!
I think so too, but when I saw the price and checked what people where achieving with the 4gb 8000 kit I bought that one instead. It's pretty solid ram so I guess your will be awesome too!
(just watch the voltage and the overvolting of your board, going above 2.1 is dangerous, go above 2.2 and it starts to die)
They use the same Powerchip ICs but Gskill bins them very aggressively. 800s aren't 1000s aren't 1066s. If you buy GSkill (and they are a good quality product), be sure to buy the speed you need...or just trust luck.
P.S. Powerchips don't scale with voltage very well. Once you get to about 2.0-2.1v, that's all you'll get.
If you want Powerchip sticks that have built in OCability, get Dominators or Mushkin XPs.
My kit of F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK show only ~1076 MHz under linpack :(
For its price is acceptable result. No more.
I just ordered 2 kits of this ram. I will let you know how the 8GB performs on my Rampage Forumula.
