Hardly man! I am very level headed overclocker I find my max and back off 200- 300mhz Dependant upon how much voltage was used in order to get >> MAX>>
I do not live by superpi and do not run insane electric chair voltages through my equipment and expect it to last and not fail.
And to further validate what I say and disprove you're accusation.....If I mishandle all of my stuff I suppose that just about 85% of us NON Qualified People on this forum less you of course, have not all been through at least half a dozen motherboards trying to get back to what we all had with our 939 systems right?
Facts are the facts man outside of the Server environment Intel Platforms and Motherboards Fail and Fail Miserably!
Besides judging from my O.C in my sig you can just see that I am unrealistic with my overclock right? You also fail to notice that my Raid Controller Card and storage is worth more than you're entire signature combined so do you really think I get crazy with and mishandle my stuff as you say?
No, I do not think so! Like I said facts are the facts and this stuff is designed to fail so you buy more pretty much!
Couldn't be anymore right. I've dealt with MANY of the Intel boards when S478 was in its hayday and I think we had over 25% of our lot fail at some point or another. These were definitely the lower end of the Intel boards, but your quality and name are only as good as your cheapest products.
I'm probably going to have to wait at least until everybody @ Asus Taiwan gets back into work (which is ~12 - 14 hours from now). Even then I imagine that there will be a delay of some sort as we all know how Asus support is
When I wake up later, I'll see if I can borrow a Tyan s3992 from a friend (or at the least boot them on a board to make sure these things aren't DOA)....
For what its worth, we were having more issues with the L1N64 earlier today. Not only was it an RMA board in the first place, but after 10 minutes of up and running we proceeded with a simple BIOS flash with the latest from Asus and that was all she wrote. Gave us an error then on the reboot no POST. Very frustrating since we spent 10+ hours reworking the entire H20 setup.
The board's a bit finicky. I've had such things happen before as well. Try pulling out a couple sticks of memory if all the slots are populated or unplug all the power connectors to the board, pull the bios battery and discharge the mobo. Wait ~30min before trying to boot again. Also, make sure that all your pci/pcie cards are being correctly recognized if you're running the board outside of a case. I've noticed that recent Asus boards have somewhat "loose" card slots and a card tilted @ the wrong angle causes weird problems.....I feel your pain :p:
^ :( try some defibrillation..
Always good to see you post S7 :D
Is it not a really bad sign that this close to launch, there arent even testing BIOS that are fully functional for the important boards already out there?
I was hoping everything would be 110% set so ppl can fire n forget once they have the gear in front of them..
s7e9h3n: I read your post awile back when you hade your ES optys, you sad that your board did run very hot. So does something like thermaright Hr-05 fit the board? Thinking of picking one up, found one for 140$! ;)
Talk, talk, talk, when do we eat, lol. I only need to know 3 things about these chips. How it compairs to the Intel Quads, Does it have the cold bug, and how hot it gets. Hopefully, AMD got it right, I'd hate to move back over to Intel
do you mean i have not been through half dozen motherboards for the core 2 duo chips or in my life? because either of them is not true.
when i said you might mishandle your hardware, i meant to say motherboard. Also, if you want to brag about how much storage you have, instead run WCG. if not, why dont you go back to Apple G4 333mhz.
No to clear things up for you I mean neither of those things you say! I was speaking COLLECTIVELY
from my observation as a whole.
What I do mean is most of us on this forum as well as many others keep pissing in the wind trying to have a fair crack at using these Conroe chips and indeed we are all looking for the stellar performance and reliability of what we had with AMD/939 but even as skilled and experience as we all are this crap is not worth a damn when it keeps failing no matter how great these processors are!
further more please do not go around making statements telling people they mis handle their equipment when you don't know them from a can of paint. its just rude and very presumptuous of you!
Now I was not looking for a fight with you when I replied to you're intial post towards me but the comment about the Macs was not nice or necessary so unless you are my age or older? That pretty much means that I was using computers when you were still shatting Yellow ....catch my drift?
My last six moths of hardware, E6420+gigbyate Ds-4 Buggy bios, random resarts -> Evga 680Sli runs insainly hot - insane v-droop borked lan ports, 2*Asus blitz none of them boots... Abit Ip35 pro, works and boots not much vdropp either, but bios options comes and goes... Diffrent every boot  Also tryed 3*E6850 during this time.
Today I sold all this crap and orderd a 6400+ black edition! To go in my DFI 570 Ultra. And I can´t wait to get a stabil computer again!
Had a DFI xpert with many diffrent cpu´s 3*4000+ 2*Opyt 165 and all did run fine and no strage boot problem missing bios options or hard to explain reboots.
Edit: Let´s get back on topic now shall we?
I rest my case:D
I am not telling you, if you read through my post again, i was making an suggestion/assumption.
Actually, your previous post does have some words that indicating that you were looking for a fight. As for the Mac suggestion, why dont consider about it. It is 100% safe, no virus and never have to worry about anything. As of right now, let this thread get back on topic.
Play nice guys..You all want the same thing. No need to fight amongst yourselves..
Thanks for reading!
@Bail......first off my name is Campbell nice to meet you.
Perhaps you may entertain the idea that I made my statement in hopes for you to reflect on whats going on as a whole with all of us with these new Intel platforms...l. they suck!!!! Its a lost cause if they are not reliable because Performance means Jack if the system will not run!
I'll add my own experience here, Gigabyte DS3 , solid 24/7 E6300 1.86 GHz, zero blue screens, zero lockups at default clock over 9 months, ditto at 2.8 GHz, but a few problems at higher than 440 fsb and really tight memory timings. It's about 3 times as fast in F@H as the Thoroughbred B @ 2 GHz I'm typing on now.
Also used a 2 GHz Clawhammer A64, solid and stable on S754, but wouldn't overclock past 2.3 GHz, major errors showed up past 2.3 GHz. Performance on F@h was dog slow compared to the overclocked E6300.
Here's hoping that Barcy does well, or Intel will increase clock speeds at a snails pace, Penryn will be expensive, and Nehalem won't show up till late 2009.
