Does anyone have the board in combination with a E4300? I just finished building the first rig, but it looks like the max I can boot with is 290Fsb with stock voltage. Setting voltage to the max of the bios doesnt gain a single mhz and I cant boot the max windows stable clocks everytime. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. And randon beep codes at bootup are also starting to piss me off.

That board, or better the bios, needs some serious bug fixing.
The PC I used the board in is none of my own. I built it at a mates house, so I had limited time to play around with it, but that board has some serious flaws.
I can run 290Fsb at stock volts for everything, then I try 300Fsb and get a black screen. Playing around with all the voltages in the bios and even setting everything to the max doesnt even make it post. Then all of a sudden, without changing anything 298fsb works, boots into windows, finishes dual 32m, I reboot and black screen again.
Then that board is the first board I ever had, that crashed in the bios trying to get into the SoftMenu tab, several times. I have to go to the hardware monitor first, after that SoftMenu works again.
Then as soon as I oc the cpu I get overheating speaker siren sound at bootup for several seconds using the latest official bios. Nothing serious, but really annoying.
I never had a board hitting a FSB wall like that. I somehow have the feeling its the bios being in a very early alpha state.
Instead of paying Fatal1ty to put his name on the board, they should have invested the money in a bios engeneer.
I am really disappointed by the board. I will build a rig with the exact same specs on monday. Hopefully that board is working somewhat better.
I take it that the board is aimed towards overclockers with the buttons on the board and the handy cmos clear jumper. The Bios settings are good aswell (except the mem dividers naming). Hopefully they can fix the bios somehow. The board has potential, but from what I have seen today, in its current state its a pita.
One thing was funny though. I was running 1066QDR and set mem to 1:1 and was wondering why it didnt boot. After that I found out that they are named in relation to the QDR and not FSB.
get him to update to BIOS11.
Most early nF6xxi BIOS have big memory holes so it may be that jumping up quite a bit & it then would have booted but it might still need the BSEL mod for an E4300.
& the siren isn't just for overheating but also voltage & /or fan rpm.
I already flashed to the latest official bios. No change at all. And with that bios I had trouble entering the softmenu.
That siren sound is a bug, I am almost sure of that. It beeps before the bootscreen comes up, so my bet is it gets some garbage readings and starts beeping, until it gets the real temp/fan readings.
Second rig.
1200MhzQDR/300Mhz Fsb, thats it. NB voltage 1.31V, CPU at stock. CPU at 1.45V, Nb and VTT voltage at anything between auto and the max selectable = no gain in FSB, not a single mhz.
Thats the most annoying board I ever had played around with.
And the funny siren beeps started when using the latest official bios. But using the latest bios over the one the board came with, resulted in a little fsb boost. Couldnt boot 1156QDR with stock bios and with the 11 one I could run 1200QDR, but not a single MHz more than that.
I hope Abit can fix that. The board layout is close to perfect. It could be THE budget board to get. Heck, it even supports SLi. For the price its a great board. But with the current bios, its not the OC board its meant to be.. :/
OK I have to take back almost everything I said :)
The board is good. With the exception of a few minor bugs it now runs great.
The FSB wall I seemed to run into was caused by a overheating NB from what it seems. Its odd that it was kinda the same with both boards, but that also explains why I was sometimes able to boot and sometimes not.
I changed the TIM and pad on the SB and NB with AS5 right out of the box, but the NB needs some serious cooling. The stock heatsink cant handle the heat.
With a additional 120mm fan blowing at the NB I was able to run 1m with 400mhz FSB with just 1.31V on the NB and VTT at stock. The CPU was maxed out after that and I didnt have more time for more testing.
It looks like I will get that board for myself, so I can do a lot of testing :)

dont forget to set ldt on 4x or 3x over 1800 fsb ONLY
dont forget mem speed and timings to when overclocking, set ur mem on lowest speed then u should get above 290 fsb

I have been overclocking for 7 years, so I know the basics :)
I can set LDT to 4 and run anything from 200 to 400 Fsb.
I am thinking about replacing my surfing rig, so I will do a low budget upgrade and the IN9 is on the list already. Hopefully I can dig up some money, so I can do some more testing and voltmodding soonish.
In case you get the IN9, put a fan and AS5 on the NB or get a aftermarket NB cooler. The one that comes with the board is huge, but the NB needs even more cooling in order to work properly.
Dude, really, calling people noob is so lame, certainly if you don't even know what you're talking about. You don't own such a board nor do you seem to know that not every reviewer gets the hardware they're reviewing.
400MHz is just the start for NF6 I think, you should try lower multiplier if CPU is holding you back. How hot is the chipset actually? Temp probe applied somewhere? The heatsink itself is feeling warm, though not as hot is the heatsink on my P5B Deluxe.
Well, using lower multipliers on C2D platforms doesnt always mean that you can run a higher FSB. I had very limited time. I did all the testing and stability testing at my mates flat in my very limited free time between courses. I am planning to do some more tests on friday, to see what max FSB I can archive without voltmodding the board, but 400Mhz with 1.31V on the NB sounds promising.
According to the Bios and AbitEQ, the NB had 45C with the fan of the Infiniti next to it. But when I touched the heatsink, I burned my finger, so I have my doubts, that those readings are correct.
Anyway, with a additional 120mm fan the displayed NB temp decreased by about 10C.
The heatsink gets really hot. Too bad I have nothing to measure the heatsink temp with.
Burning was a bit too much, but I couldnt touch it longer than a split second, so I have my doubts that those 45C were close to the real temp.

Yes thats the board I was talking about. There are pictures at the first page of this thread aswell.
NF6 means Nforce 6, which is the name of the boards chipset.
The southbridge heatsink is good enough, but I would suggest to remove it to put AS5 or any other TIM on it. From the 2 boards I had, one had enough TIM, but the second board only had a little paste with a diameter of 4mm on the entire SB.
The NB doesnt have TIM on the chip. Abit uses some kind of thick thermal pad. Its easy to remove. Just make sure you put some clinex or something under the edges of the NB heatsink while removing it, otherwise there is the risk of the heatsink damaging the PCB.
The Zalman heatsink you have choosen is not good enough to do a decent job. You are better of putting AS5 on the NB and a 40-60mm fan on the NB heatsink. That would be way better than a passive heatsink.
I placed a 120mm fan at about the end of the 8800GTS. It runs at 1200rpm, is dead silent and moves enough air to cool the NB good enough. If you would use the Zalman heatsink, you would need something to move the hot air away aswell.
