$400 is out of control...i dont even care if i can afford one, I WONT...The more people who buys it at that price is going to make it even worse next time comes around. Then Asus will get comfortable and push it up to $500. Asus is trying to make it seems normal but the bottom line is that it's a freaking rip off. I started noticing boards in the $300 since C2D released, and since they were all sold out; it gave Asus more confidence they can charge us whatever the hell they want. Well fuk that..they can goto hell with price tag.

Now how many of you would have the nerve to mod a 400 mobo and a 600 vidcard?

I modded a $2000 Melos headphone amp that's out of production and exceedingly rare...$600 video card is no problemo!

If this was only going to be my game system I wouldn't have a second thought on modding it. But since I'm planning on keeping it as a game system for only about a year and then moving it/turning it into a fileserver I want to keep it as stable as possible. (want to get about 5 years out of it as a fileserver, 6 year total life). The graphics card though I'll probably play with as I'm looking to replace the 8800GTX w/ an 8900GTX when they come out (assuming that they offer any decent performance gains).

It is listed at isorm.com backordered as 350$. Would there really be that much improvement from the EVGA 680i to justify the 100$ price gap? As far as ASUS goes they add some cool but unnecessary accessories and such and probably end up with the same voltages as EVGA. Personally I am holding out for DFI.

I think alot of the price is in the adds on, the anti-virus and such. They market it that they are giving you these extra's but its really built into the price, prolly pay 1.00 for it and add 40 to the price tag.

Still alot of money for some bling and some extra's, have to be a really good overclocker to justify the much higher price.

Never know, it could be a scam by the e-tailers as well, remember a couple days before the 8800GTX people was seeing prices of 8-900 and on laugh most places was around 650.00, have to wait and see i guess.

It's probably too early to tell, but does anyone know if my OCZ DDR2-1000 would work with this board? I know it says DDR2 800, but will i be able to tweek it to get it to work at stock settings?

Asus and their extremely high vdroop. I would just wait this board out, see the rich people's results first. Too expensive to be a tester.
