Could be but I've seen the BFG's and they look identical to my Asus 7900gs and I think XFX's are the same. Could it be a bios limit that the BFG's dont have??Quote:

I think the 7900GS are just leftover 7900GT's that needed to be pushed out the door, so they mask 4 pipes and a vertex unit and lower the prices to push them as G80 becomes popular. Why would they go through the extra work which = $$$ to laser cut the pipes? Just software mask them and the average noob should be content rite?Quote:

Guys I have some bad news:( and some good news:) . The bad news first. After failing to do the soft mod to unlock the extra pipes, I though it was merely a bios issue and tried flashing my Asus 7900gs with the BFG 7900gs bios. Well it froze halfway through flashing and once I restarted of course I got no picture:( I wonder If I can get it RMA'D??
Now the good news is that once I fubard my card I went out to get a BFG 7900gs oc to see what the hype is all about. Got home, put her in, loaded windows and tried the soft mod pretty much right away and what do you know..it worked...so I'm here scratching my head wondering if it's a bios or software issue at all. After a few minutes I decided to replace the stock hsf with my moded cpu hsf and start testing the card out. Once I cleaned the goop off the core guess what I saw...the card is using a GT core.:D So BFG simply use GT cores and disable the pipes with a soft mod.
Here is proof for the non believers,

MTP04 thank you for proving my hypothesis rite. So far thats 3 for 3 BFG 7900GS unlocks iv seen. This card is great, it even comes with a $40 rebate which im mailing out tomm, The cheapest of the 7900GS's.
Yeah I got the rebate as well.:DQuote:

Nice find and congrats on the "luck" to get the BFG, that's certainly a very good card for the money now. :toast:
I wonder if any other manufacturers are doing similar ?

So . Thats all folks :D . Let's go clocking again our twenty pipelines :hehe:
I might take a look at a BFG 7900GS tomorrow at my work (UK computer component reseller). Are the unlock able ones from a specific batch IE is there anything I could lookout for on the box, or do I have to look at the Core?
Not much I can tell you, the box is pretty clear of stickers. I can tell you that its the BFG 7900GS OC. You just have to take the chance and see.:)Quote:

Hello everybody. On this mod, for giving 1.5V to GPU, do i have to short both 1.4 and 1.3 points to ground? I mean 1.3+1.4=1.5 ? Thanks.Quote:

but the real question is,
can the GT cores overclock as well as the GS cores?
there was a guy who took down tons of GT records with a GS because the GS cores overclock much better.
so would a deffective GT core even overclock that well?
i should really try to push my GS these days.

LOL this is beating my 7950GX2 in 01 :(
Im all stock cooled though, im also 10k in 06 though :)
Just flashed my GS to a GT, noticed no affect on stable clock speeds. Picked up around 600 points in 06.
damned impressive clocks man. I'm only able to acheive 700 core on 1.5v and 720 on 1.55v. Ram I can get to 880 with 2.25v, but my graphite keeps seeming to wear off, and after some time, I'm down to 2.2 volts and only able to do 860. Then after some more time, it fades more into the 2.1's and I'm down to 840. Still can't complain though :) Broke 10k in 05 and am not ram limited anyway. Should have gone with bfg. Well done!!
My core is at 1.4v and the Ram is stock. Just scored 11100 in 05 at 670/880.
