Exactly! Overclocking itself, in any shape or form is also a void on the warranty. Sure, it's harder to prove that Overclocking the CPU destroied it. Either one ends in a dead CPU. No! You don't have to be "poor" to overclock. You just have to look the fact square in the eye and be ready to accept that you're actions (whether physical like a mod or non-physical like a BIOS setting) may destroy your hardware.

It's not becuase we are POOR that we accept this risk, it's because this is our hobby. This is the equivilant of flying an RC airplane only to have it crash into splinters in front of us during a landing attempt. We put the pieces in a box, salvage what we can, and move on to the next project.

It shoudl be our own integrity that disallows us RMA hardware that we damaged. What if said company did not do anything with it and just resold it - imagine if it were YOU that bought that re-packaged piece. After saving for weeks and waiting for days to get it - it's a broken hunk of CRAP that somoene else damaged.

now we know though... youre like the sacrificer for everyone else that doesnt know about the new IHS...

alteast he seems like he has the money to deal with these kinds of situations. most of us would be without a computer at this point.

As far as completes situation, didnt you guys read the first post. He didnt know amd started using solder. I honestly feel for him, if his ihs wasnt soldered on it would have been a simple mod. You live and you learn.


p.s. superglueing the ihs back and rmaing it is just so not cool. :slap: i'm glad hes not the type of guy to do that.

As far as I know, AMD64 processors released beginning the date of May 2006 are Pb-free.

yes I remember the old days, but AMD didn't like the old days very much as naked cores were being cracked by n00bish users and AMD got tired of doing replacements :)

This is one of the main reasons for the IHS method, now AMD is learning from Intel with the soldered cores as this will equal temps close or almost as good as with naked cores :) only time will tell. I can tell you this, more AMD users will be trying to melt away the solder from the new chips :D

I hate a bunch of holier than thou BS rantings.. Glue the thing back together and RMA it! Geesh! The profit that is being made off these cpu at the prices they are being sold at is ridiculous. Prices are already marked up to make up for people RMA'ing cpu's that they broke voiding the warranty anyway. If your own concencious won't let you, then so be it and good for you. But don't RMA it because of these holy rolling moralality preachers hollering that it isn't right. We are already paying marked up prices for people to RMA parts they break. If you are boderline on what to do, glue it, RMA it, sell the replacement and go feed the hungry at your local shelter with that chunk of change. Or put it to whatever good use you see fit. Pisses me to no end to see people telling others what to do. Be careful they may start telling you that you will burn in hell if you do RMA it. It's none of their business.

if everyone would RMA their chips that they have taking the IHS off from crushing,chipping the resistor,sitting on them,dropping them in water, or just plain carelessness then AMD would eventually push the cost to the consumer so don't go telling him it's OK to be dishonest he crossed the line when he voided his warranty he should be man enough to deal with the consequences and not push the cost to others.. It's a waste of time for AMD, the resellers and consumers. so STFU and go to hell!

thats like saying if you wreck your car trying to do a dukes of hazzard jump then you should get a new one, because they were making profit off it anyway...

now believe me, im against losing warranty due to:
- aftermarket cooling
- stock voltage overclocking
- the various other nonsense they pull

but an IHS removal gone wrong does not deserve a new CPU. Complete understands this and has decided to NOT rma.

I totally agree that they should not void your warranty because you decide that the HSF they provide is not something that works for you, also warranties shouldn't be voided based on overclocking but only based hardware motification, now AMD is starting to solder their chips so we won't be seeing alot of people taking their IHS off that's for sure, so they should cut out those other restrictions as pointed above.

oh shut up :slapass: how'd you like it if you made a product and I bought it, abused it and broke it, then sent it back to you for you to replace under "warranty"? Willful destruction - which IHS removal is, isn't it? Especially when it goes awry ;) - isn't covered under any manufacturers warranty.

I thought my 3800 was gonna be a good ole keychain, but fortunately for me she fired right up and runs same clocks and all..

Although the pocket pain from a 62 loss woulda drove me insane, I agree with the dont RMA policy everyones speaking of, you break it you bought it..

I have a brand-spanking new Opteron 148 on the way from an RMA. I'll see what week/year it is, but I suspect it will be a very recent 06 chip. It's coming straight from AMD too. I don't think I'm feeling corageous enough to see if it's soldered.

Second off, If I did RMA it, and such, its just a bad example to the great XS forums we have here. We dont roll that way around here.

I love our hobby, understand the ricks, and take them anyway... but that doesn't mean we can't be MEN and WOMEN of good quality moral ethics.

Third, IF I did RMA It, and so did the 1 billion other people, :S , Then prices would be even more JACKED up! Ever think of that?

Personally,, I want to see AMD Make a BIG come back, and take the crown :) And me getting a 1k chip for free, doesn't help the cause.

So really we are following the rules - well, most of us, apparently some do not :slap: Only time you break the rule is when someone goes beyond stock yet still RMAs after doing it :nono:
