Raptors are also loud as hell. I wouldn't go Raptors too; little difference. I would just save the money for future upgrades.

Actually the newer 150G raptors are pretty quiet. The pair I have are much quieter than the 36s and 74s I had. Just fyi.Quote:

I'm sorry, I meant the 74gb ones. A dude in another forum had a problem with his 74gb Raptor b/c his was loud. He posted up a video of his Raptor in action and it was crazy. Can't say the same for the 36gb ones.Quote:

also for cooling your ram just get a 120mm fan.
oh and check out vdimm on that asus board, you are really gonna wanna push 2.4-2.5v
edit: actually has come out only 8 left though
http://heatsinkfactory.com/shop/prod...cat=307&page=1
also for cases you might wanna check out the antec p180 or lian-li unless your set on stacker
I have a Tuniq Tower, am looking to replace the fan, but need to see how it performs first!
I was gonna go with the XP-90 copper, but then chose the Mine.... then I nabbed 2 Tuniq Tower's.
Either way, it's only a few degrees here and there providing you get a top H/S. I also recommened the P180. Not if your gonna be in there 24/7 but it's a superior cool case all clsoed.
Purchased :)Quote:

45cfm should be fine for case fans..even thats a decent amount of air, and for cooling your CPU you'll probably not wanna go above 60cfm, loud and annoying.

nexus fan, scythe d/e, mcubed x12 all get good reviews.
also for that heatsink you might be able to mount 2-120mm fans on it, not sure if it'll make a difference with the infinity but every little bit helps, I'd try it out, or do a test with one then two with idle/load temps
dont know if you noticed but look at the p180(black)..really popular case you might like
oh and I'm not sure if you have AS5 (arctic silver 5) but your gonna wanna buy that...I'd replace the thermal paste on your 7900gtxs as well, even if you don't replace the stock fan, it will definatly give you a larger overclock...might wanna look in to a mild volt mod for your gtxs..although I don't know if you wanna risk it:-p
might also want to look in to finding a good overclock for your 7900gtxs and then doing a hardware overclock..they have guides around here where you can change the bios and what not..personally I like hardware overclocks as opposed to software..seems more permanent to me
also from the reviews I've seen your not gonna wanna buy the asus p5...wait for the nforce 590 chipset should be out verrrry soon
Any chance of a picture for something like that?Quote:

Ummmm... how would I go about replacing that thermal paste on the GTX's... tear apart the card? Sounds a little nerve racking :o
My GTX's already came overclocked from XFX. There was a review on Guru3D.com on them, and they mentioned that they really couldn't overclock them any more past what the manufacturer did.Quote:

Yup, was planning on that :)Quote:

WOW! Anyone notice that the prices for the Core 2 Duos Just rocketed up? I hurried and bought one for 339 still at Buy.com Newegg and ZipZoomFly went up by at least $100.
Really? I didn't notice. Of course, I'm too concentrated on the previously high priced AMD's decreasing price rather than Conroes increasing ones. I'll be getting my 4400+ Toledo later today!! First dual-core I'll own.Quote:

Hopefully ASUS will have a retail board soon.
nVidia 590 Intel Board Preview
I'm going for P5B Deluxe
Bad experience with SLI, meaning I'm happy with the 7950GX2 (sort of Sli if not real SLi )
I dunno whether to get the X1950XTX though. It canes 7950GX2 in games, so I may get that if it is indeed out at end of the month and not ÜBER expensive.

If nothing more than market pressure, SLI should work on 975 based boards officially soon enough, and unofficially on 85.xx series drivers if you look around. So the 590 isn't the only option for SLI. It may well be a very good board on its own merits, but more likely that'll be if you have the 6800, which is ridiculously high right now.
Have a Raptor 150 and it's quieter and cooler than the 74.
Liked, and bought the TJ07 (Silverstone) over the Stacker.
7900's are going to be just fine till the 8000's.
At the current market frenzy and pricing, patience is going to be a very good ally to have.
One raptor 150 and one data/backup drive of the 300-400 variety should keep the pricing reasonable. Get the non gamer raptor, as it's cheaper and cooler running and avoids the bling premium.
2gb is plenty. Honest.
Most of the rest of the advice seems spot on. Remember in some cases people are recommending things that are very close in qualities, so you won't go entirely wrong with any of them.
Remember at the end of all of this to just go and play! That's the real diamond amongst the pearls :)
SLI won't work on 975...
It does if you use the hacked drivers from big_sam :banana:Quote:

I am selling my 7900GTX and going back to my 7800GT. Will see just how much of a difference I see. Based on that I'll look at getting the new ATI card or a 7950GX2. I'd really rather be able to hold off until the DX10 cards arrive.
Well it's multiple factors about that 590 board that's taken me away from it. Turst me, I was dead seat on it and was happy waiting to get one. But a few things have played on my mind...Quote:

2) SLi experience! - My mates 2x 7900GT's have caused me so many problems it's unreal. I just give up. SLi is no longer something that is a "must" on this rig of mine. 1x 7950GX2 or the ATI 1950... is ok, but I dunno which one! - Depends if 1950's are released sometime this month or not like they say they will bea s it trashed the 7950 in games.
3) The P5B has a decent reputation and the latest 0507 Bios has enable 500+ FSB. In the right hands... put simple the P5B is dangerous! :D
As for not goign for the 590, there are a few boards currently supporting SLi that will be just fine. I mean, I'm speaking from the perspective that you seem dead set on DX10 from the off. So there's no point wasting cash (and waiting) for a new board to come out only to replace it. No need either to go for hacked drivers when the Asus P5N32-SLI SE will do a fine job to manage you easily until DX10 etc. Speacially with 2x 7900GTX's!
I'm not touching DX10 for time yet. Gonna enjoy my current rig once built! next step up for me will be a while off after this machine is on the go.
instead of the areocool extreme turbine, get the silverstone 120mm 110 cfm fans
also, instead of the 7900gtx, wait untill the x1950xtx and get two of those and cf them, they are better than the 7900gtx, and im not talking 3d mark scores, im talking real world gaming performance.
also, a CNPS9500 instead, it will be better performed then the Sythe Infinity, most of the comparisons arnt really true
Seconded.Quote:

Also 110cfm is alot of air and alot of noise, 4 of those at 110 is really loud I had one at 110cfm and I turned down to about 50 :-pQuote:

Wait... I just remembered something to make it worth my while to stick it out with nVidia... Quad SLI. And before you sigh and moan hear me out! Right now I have a 30" Dell and run everything, including all my games, at the native resolution of 2560X1600. The only way that is feasable right now is because I have the two boys working it out now. So, if I want to keep up that resolution, I have a feeling nine months down the road DX10 Quad SLI might be a pretty awesome way to handle that.
So just pick up an Nvidia board if that time comes. Chances are you'll still be with Conroe based system but the only difference would be your motherboard and whatever card you'll desire at the time. For the time being it looks like ATI can do the same if not better as Nvidia with fewer pieces of hardware. If that changes, switch--go for the best at the time. You already have enough nice peices of hardware sell to counter the expenses if that time comes.Quote:
