well looks like my super duper el cheapo Samsung 667 black label stuff has more in it after all.

8x multi and 430 fsb boots right up. so thats 860mhz on the ram ,
woot lol i havent tried 860 5-5-5 i just set 5-6-5 just to try it.
im just messing around as i get ready for work but it is 8m pi stable so far.

id have to search around the web to find this crap but its Samsung generic OEM DDR667 spd is 5-5-5 @ 667 but it will do 800 5-5-5 no problem. so right now 860 5-6-5

i was using a 2x512mb Corsair Value DDR2 533 with Sansung IC 300 @ 3-3-3-8 and 800 @ 4-4-4-8 2.3v

i heard tho that even with higher fsb and frequency that this mobo doesnt do the same results as the Asus. because of the northbridge relaxing timings internally????

can any one confirm this is faulse before i order this?

does this board have 8 phase power?

this board is SLIG?HTLY slower maybe 1sec on pi other than that i dont think you'll feel or see any different in scores of benchmarks other than the second missing from Pi.

@Pcc

cpu-z reports the ram wrong once you overclock so high.
its actually 5-6-5-16

i have searched around the internet for the chips that are on my ram and havent found anything other than its samsung 667 nothing else..
its just oem stuff that i got from an old connection from my old job (who will remain nameless)
i mean if im running 870 5-6-5 on super cheap generic ram damn im happy with that. im not complaining.
prime has been running since my last post and everything is good so far.

Easy boot with 266--> 450 FSB :)

Hmm ... I don't see any phase cooling on the DS3, but if you look at DS4 and DQ6 (being the most expensive) they all have the pipes and stuff :nono:

so does this have 8 phase power? or not? if this can get me to 4ghz and the asus cant then i guess this the board to have, but if suddenly the asus gets a better bios and the fsb goes higher then maybe the asus is the way to go

well i gotta tell the truth and say i was wrong.

the cpu multiplier is whats doing the fsb limits.
why i dont know... the AMD64 chips used to do this but not this much you might get a little higher on the htt but not like this.

its wierd and i think that intel/mobo makers need to look in into this if they intend on making overclocking boards.

but im very happy with 400mhz FSB = 3.6ghz on a $140 motherboard.
if asus had gotten off their butt and made the multi changer work on the P5W then maybe the P5W would do this high of fsb also.

oh well. time for work.. play time is over.

These mb will have better bios later down the road so only time will tell, but then again this PcC12iminal proved DS3 can reach high FSB for now... better wait a bit more cause I'm thinking of getting the P5W-DH :O

Which board out of the 2 do you recommend based on your experience?

I have just cancelled my order for the Asus and Gone for DQ6 with the hope that the bios would get sorted.

you are right , in JP P5WDH is 75% more expensive than DS3 ,and that Gigabyte just need a new bios with low dividers and stuff

i just ordered the asus any way from micro direct, gona see how it goes with that, if its crap ill sell it and buy a DS3

there is only 30GBP difference in cost for the asus and DS3 which is about 50$

P5WDH got plenty of features and you can use Xfire/SLI or GX2
and Asus seems to be faster
i will use Asus but i think you need to wait a bit and check all the threads about DQ6(2 or 3 are running now)

its a little advice from a Asus fan

Yes the mind says wait but the heart says get something ordered for the 6600 I have arriving. I have cancelled my order for the DQ6 so back in limbo land.

I don't get why you're sprouting that everywhere? We've only had a sample of a few retails cpus and you can't claim that retail cpu's suck with so few results. X6800 ES had bad and good cpu's
