Conroe is faster without overclocking, LOE.

It's all made up DoubleZero. Oh wait, it's not. Tis true about AMD driving Intel to create Conroe though. Loosing market share was a great motivator.

You may care for synthetic benches but that's not my case. I am not saying that conroe is slower than K8, just that it is not that faster as intel wants you to think. I would still get a conroe and overclock it to it's max stable cause its a kind of free power :) But when amd drops X2 3800+ to 160$ there is no chip from intel to beat a 160$ dual core @3Ghz in it's price/performance ratio

I don't know why you bothered with a strawman; you're busted as soon as anyone follows the link to the review, where they'll find more than synthetic and game benchmarks at 1024x768. An overl:banana::banana::banana::banana:ed $183 e6300 will easily beat a $160 x2 3800 @ 3GHz in p/p and it will be faster.

1) The Price for the e6300 isn't locked yet
2) it could be more
3) alot more
4) make that a hell of alot more
5) it still isn't out yet, so there is no comparison

Hate to dig up and old post but I have been searching for it the past hour :(

anyway, just a few quick question before I return the 3500+ which i will ge tommrow from new egg.

1st When will these prices comeinto effect on the retail level will the be instant on the 24th? (obviosuly with a few buks on top for the e-tailer)

2nd will the X2 3800 really only be 160?

3rd Will the date be earlier because of the early conroe realease?

4th Will newegg.com just show a huge drop on the prices the day of the price cut?

its simple they have to... there will be vendors without small stock and fast supply that bring the new prices... where will you buy? yes the cheap ones even if you maybe have to add few $ more on shipping costs.....

so yes they will change the prices, shops are really running low stock already for these forthcomming pricedrops.

and yes its great calculating a 159$ x2 3800 with an asrock 65$ uli chipset. thats 224$ for the combo calculate this for conroe e6300 209$ + any 965 chip will cost about 115$ that'a 324$ and 50% more expensive... so its clear what will be the best price/performer maybe core will be a bit faster in games... but not that big difference with a 1,86 2mb versus a 2.0

AMD can not reduce their chips price more than Intel can. The production costs AMD more than Intel.
X2 3800+ is owned in every benchmark by E6300.

X2 3800+ will cost $169, E6300 will cost $183. The apopriate memory for the X2 3800+, DDR2-800 CL4 4-4-x cost more(more than the diference of $14) than the apropriate memory for E6300, DDR2-667 CL5 5-5-x.

Also there are a lot of more competetive Netburst chips compared to K8 X2.

I doubt the 6300 will cost $183 due to a number of reasons. I give it at least 210$ in US and 240$ in EU.

DDR2 : 2x512 Mo RAM Micron DDR2-533 3-3-3-8

lol with that memory neither an X2 4800 doesn't beat the 6300. Another Intel ordered review :P the E6300 should be about 5-10% faster than the X2 3800 by my calculations @ the default frequency. (ofcourse no SuperPi or other stupid benches, just real world apps such as games, 3d/2d apps, etc)

So, for overclockers the E6300 is no doubt the choice, but for the most of the people i doubt they will choose E6300 over X2 3800 due to the higher price and small performance difference.

***Update*** I just read at DigitTimes, 3700 is stopped shipmest as of the 2nd... So I am guessing with a discounted item and the cuts I should be able to pick one up at neweeg.com for 150 or so? Am I correct. on the 24th
