2006 x2 3800 Manchesters

Hey folks.. i've been following this thread, and its very intersting :)

I have a 0601 UPMW from TankGuys..

On easy water (CoolerMaster AquaGate Mini), I was 2.8Ghz Dual SP2004 stable at 1.5v. Its an "N" chip. I was really hoping for a "T" chip.

Right now I have the CPU under DICE running PCMark2k5 right now.

Its at 3.2Ghz at 1.55v. I bumped it to 1.60, but not much difference in performance. I figure since its an "N" no need to really go beyond 1.6. How much more volts do i need before I see increase performance?

Oh.. I have a question to.

How the heck do you do with the tcasemax info?

My tcasemax = 71c, TDP: 89.0Watts. Is taht good or bad? What does that tell me?

High transistor leakage, good overclocker is the lore. Try 1.65v for a short while, see if you get anywhere. 1.55v on phase gives about 3050, so assuming linearity, you may get 3350. Or not, if it's just walling at 3200.

THanks for the quick reply. I put it at 1.7v.. didn't get much :( Not even 3.3.Ghz. So I took it back down to 1.55. The temp on teh base stayed in the high -50c. So I figure I was safe to bump it up a little ;)

Actually over 1.55v, my vCore starts to fluctuate. So maybe its the power. I'm going to see if I can try a differnet board and PSU in the next few days. But a 3.2Ghz absolutely benchable at 1.55v is pretty sweet :) I was just hoping for a 3.3 or 3.4 benchable :(

Hmm, maybe a 3200 wall is it then? But yes indeed, 3200 / 1.55v is very nice. I found 3200 to be about the limit for mine... though I only tried up to 1.68v.

I wrecked my 3.3v rail doing 3320 with a 4600; good idea to try different.

these new 3800+ are really great. I may sell my old one and buy one of these. I found two pieces (0605 EPAW
0606 DPMW) but i didnt find any results for these steppings..0601 week are really hard to find now.

reposting in this thread in case it gets lost in the x2 overclocking thread..

after some limited gains seen on my previous x2 3800+ toledo core I'm getting the itch to swap out my proc with one of these 06 x2's after reading all of your experiences.. I've done some digging around locally and located a few different options..

Anyone have any input on which one would be the more desireable week/stepping?

ldbhe 0601 fpmw
ldbhe 0602 xpmw
ldbhe 0604 cpmw
ldbhe 0605 ????? (didn't get the last 4 letters for this one)
ldbfe 0607 spmw

I can pick up the 0607 spmw for ~280 in a combo so I was originally leaning towards that one but after reading some of the discussions in the T or N thread about the higher first letter being the most desireable (xpmw , tpmw , etc) I was hesitant to jump on it.. also I'm not sure how the 0601 fpmw compares..

My plan is to use air initially .. dfi lanparty sli-dr w/ thermalright si-120 + panaflo 120mm fan in a p180 with upgraded fans.. but I'm also considering going to water.. phase seems very costly but very desireable.. so i think im not quite ready for that yet..

any input?

As i mentinoed 0601 UPMW "N", I'm running 3.2 solid at 1.55v in BIOS on DICE. No apparent sign of Cold Bug. I think I can bench at 3.25- to 3.28. Pushing vCore to 1.65 and 1.70 didn't give 3.3.

Any advice or tips on how I can get 3.3 or 3.4 benchable?

Can anyone from the UK recommend me an online supplier to get a x2 3800 Manchester core with the 2006 steppings? ive tried getting in touch with overclock.co.uk and overclockers.co.uk but they are pretty useless at telling at what stepping they are - they either have no clue or dont get back to me.

Sorry I'd have to disagree. On my 0601 XPDW T chip, it wasn't voltage senstive at all:

2465 MHz @ 1.15V
2610 MHz @ 1.20V
2755 MHz @ 1.26V
2900 MHz @ 1.39V

Anyway very stable at 1.5v (1.475 hinted at instability) and 2500 on air. 33 idle, 48 full load; cool & quiet enabled, computer case closed. I'm sure I could get more but that was my initial goal and this thing has to be my regular everyday computer.

Hi and welcome. I'm still a n00b here myself really. :)

You're right - your TcaseMax is a bit of a shocker; I've seen those kinds of numbers before on single cores and believe me, you're doing well with that chip at 2500. What cooling do you have? stock HSF? Temps seem about right for it. You might probably get more from it with better cooling.

Clearly OPB wasn't kidding when he said TPMW was a decent chip. I bet under cold that would do a whole lot better.

@Brut: Clearly that stepping isn't a classic...yet you still have faster than an X2 4600, for half the price.

Absolute_0, nice 3gigs man. Now you have 2 amazing dual cores!!

Mine is priming right now at 2920 1.42v for 45min. I am trying to get the volts to drop a little so that It might run 2900 @ 1.39. That is my 24/7 goal, as my aquagate mini just can't handle the heat load. I'm loaded at 40C now, and my room is about 20c. It's still new, so I may be able to push up the volts and get to 3.0, but I'm gonna take it slow.

I've began the testing of my LDBHE 0605DPMW, and so far the results do not look that promising. I'll post some clocks once I have some defined results.

Seems it would be best to stick with week 1s; the later ones don't seem to be doing that well.

yea, i think that other than 0601, you are hit or miss. Some are really good, and some aren't.

The main problem with this chip seems that the two cores are very different.

Core 0 likes volts, whilst core 1 likes low volts. If the volts are too low core 0 will fall over, of the volts are too high core 1 will be the weaker.

If it could make up its mind whether it likes volts or not, it would be half decent chip. :p:

yea, that is strange. Not sure what the fix for that is. I wonder if the ihs might be unevenly settled, where 1 core has better contact than the other.

Hopefully once it gets settled in it'll oc better.

right now I'm priming my LDBHE 0606EPMW "T" @ 1.4v and 270x10

Will post SS once I'm 100% sure it's stable. Temps are at 41 C on load, and around 21 C at idle. Using a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU.

After I took teh screenshot, I opened MS Paint, pasted and saved it then burnt the jpg to a cd-rw.. everything was smooth as silk but it did lag a little when I put the cd-rw into the drive but that was just because the drive was pre-spinning the disc. So what I'm trying to say is, I think it's pretty much stable at this OC... Any advice?

Hey I've been going through the whole thread. I'm looking at picking up an x2 3800+ next week. Are you guys just shooting in the dark and hope you get a good week or are their vendors that give you a choice.

tankguys, and flickerdown both let you pick, but they only have limited weeks and steppings. The early 06's are all gone.

I do know that there will be a LDBHE 0601 XPMW on ebay starting tonight.

I have a buyer lined up for it, but I'm torn as to what to do. Should I sell it and go back to my 3.4Ghz Opteron or keep it? A quick reply would be very helpful. :)

sell both and get a new 3800+ that can do 3.1+ on the mach, and then run Rosetta with us :)

Most of the 06xx chips will run 3ghz or more fairly easily :)
Just look for a non 'bugged chip

All the 06 3800+s are non cold bugged. Most should do 3.1 on phase easily. I can do 3 on water, and many chips are much better than mine. I see people doing 2.9 Ghz with 1.5v and less. They just don't give the proper voltage to do 3 Ghz :P

trade it for my opty 170 0550 upmw. :)

Absolute_0 is correct about the voltage thing;) I just have'nt worked my way to 3.0 yet. It will come as I burn in more and nudge my way there.
here is a screenie of 2900 @ 1.4 that I just finished. Apparently burning in might be helping, as yesterday I needed 1.42 to do 2900. Any less and core 1 would fail. I burned core 1 at 2900 1.42 all night and all day without core 0 priming at all. This seemed to help, as you can see.

after some burn in I can now do 2850mhz stock vcore and ballistix @ 285 2.5v :)

let me pose this question. I am now trying to prime at 3000 @ 1.5v. When I do my temps shoot up to about 48c and one core or the other fails. It is different either time.
I am trying one at a time now, and they both seem to do fine on their own.
Is this an indication that my cooling is inadequate?

yeah man you are temp limited

that, and these 3800+s don't scale as well as my nice coldbugged 170 does. That thing will break through 3 Ghz like it's stock speeds. This 3800+ is hitting a wall around there, i can do 2.95 Ghz with 1.56 volts prime for a while, and even with 1.63v and a very cold room and 40c load, it will not prime at 3 Ghz for more than a minute. It really sucks.

But the burn in is definitely happening, i used to need 1.45 for 2.8, then 1.42, now i'm doing 2.8 with 1.40v and it's going. Good watercooling keeps the load around 37c ;).

I would definately benefit from a good watercooling rig, but I really think I am gonna hold out for ocz's phase unit when it comes out. I think it would make this chip smoke!

I would think all you would need to do is pop the IHS on that chip. Its most likely temps and the best way to drop them is either upgrade cooling or pop the IHS.

I'm not at all against popping the top, I've done it on my past few chips and saw an improvement...but I have heard that the ihs contact is very good on these 06 chips.
I'll search around a little, and see what I can find on before and afters.

well i slapped my phase on and i can prime at 3.15 Ghz with 1.55v and +4c load. Can't get much higher than that because i start needing more voltage, and it gets to +7c and core0 starts failing.

Mine is hitting a wall @ 2.8. Reaches 2.8 with 1.45v. I already gave 1.50v and still cant spi @ 2.850

I got the same exact chip. Right now I'm priming it at 260x10 and 1.375 volts. I'm doing a blend test using sp2004 so it's not focusing mainly on the chip but my ram too because I hit a wall at around 263 with my ram. Just keep priming then raise, prime then raise. Start low to stretch it out (noob advice, ymmv). I hit that same wall at 2800 w/ 1.5 volts even... hopefully my burning in and stuff will solve that.

Tried also 3ghz even at 1,55v but it wasn´t stable in win. Maybe 2,9ghz i´ll see. This weekend i´ll test it on my vapo LS (stock) & maybe in 2 weeks on Dryice :D

Well guys i think i've got the worst 06 3800+ EVER

ordered one from newegg... expected 0607, got 0603
LDBHE 0603 WPDW...

I started overclocking and could tell right away it was bad, 2.7 with 1.4v couldn't even get into windows. 2.75 with 1.5v failed prime instantly. 2.8 Ghz with 1.6v locked up right after loading windows... right now i'm playing with 2.6 Ghz with 1.4v.

2nd worst socket 939 CPU i've ever owned (and i've owned a LOT).

found an interesting one where i hooked you up with your other one Absolute.

CDBHE 0608 FPMW batch 500 ish

Stone cold the new one is 0605 XPMW No results as its not here yet.

The 0601 XPMW @ 3347 did that 1M at 1.62 did a 32M at 3.2 with 1.6v max windows 3508 and usable with 1.75v havent tested further.

Don't forget my 24/7 chip LDBHE 0539 RPMW does 3.0 24/7 stable in prime pi32m and everything else 1.6v

Really, it's an ad-hoc list to give us a rough idea. Unlike the Official x2 OC table (which needs 32M minimum as evidence), I've taken every scrap of info (verified or not) and stuck it in. There are surprises; quite a few 0606 chips doing 2800 /1.4v or so on air.

I'm still betting that LDBHE finished on week 0607 and that we'll only see LDBFE after that. If anyone sees a LDBHE 0608 or later, shout.

its looking real good so far. i averaged all the clocks from the list, and it comes out to 3g's even. or 3000.6071428571428571428571428571 if you want to get technical. i can't wait to get mine its gonna be a blast.

Superpi 1M finishes at 31.5 seconds. Fastest chip I've ever had but temps are scary compared to my last Opteron 170. 33 Idle and 47 load using the opteron heatpipe hsf vs 27 idle and 41 load for the 170 at 2.6 and 1.42 volts.

Guys, my LDBFE 0607 XPAW is looking to be possibly the worst S939 chip of the last year. I went to prime 2.5GHz last night at 1.45v and the computer froze very early on. It's a T chip and a low batch, I figured I'd get atleast 2.8ghz....this is just horrible.

I've been playing with the same stepping chip for the past two days and I have to agree. AVOID THIS STEPPING!

thanks for the heads up on the LDBFE 0607 XPAW, was going to pick one up locally today to replace my 165 @ 2.7 . The other choice is a LDBFE 0608 UPMW "T" ......decisions.........

If you guys can update the list, right now I'm priming 2600ghz w/ 1.4v .. that's the highest i'm going to raise it for 24/7 purposes and because my ram hits a wall at around 263... The temps on load are 43C and idle is 23C. Pretty decent chip (imo), I speculate a good w/c rig could bring out the 2800ghz in this puppy, though I doubt 3ghz (volt limited).

2500 needed 1.35v
2550 needed 1.375
2600 needed 1.4v

Whoah! Before you write it off, have a serious play with your RAM settings. My LDBFE 0607 UPMW is possibly the pickiest chip w.r.t. vcore and memory settings that I've ever owned... and a couple of day's solid tweaking got me SPi 4M stable at 3200 /1.65v under phase. I always think "lockups=memory+controller", time to tweak.

If that doesn't work, then yeah, it's dread.

Well, after fighting a corrupt video driver all damn day long, I finally am up and going again. I popped my ihs off a little bit ago, and I have seen a very significant gain in temps. Whereas, before, I couldn't prime above 2950, no matter the volts due to heat, I am now priming at 3000 @ 1.5v and my load temps are 38C. They used to be 39 to 40 c @ 2900 and 1.4v.
Will post a screenie if I pass 1 hour.

system froze after 27min and change. I just raided ldt volts to 1.3, gonna see if this helps. Temps are still 38c loaded. This is the best chip ive ever owned.

is this suppose to need almost 1.55v for 255x11 (i tried for higher and it seems it needs alot of volts)

that's the way it goes with the "T" chips. They do well with low volts to a point, and then you really have to crank the vcore. They keep scaling very well, you just need some good cooling to get rid of the heat as the vcore and mhz scale.

Do you think they can hit 3ghz?

and at what voltage?

Probably most can hit 3ghz, but would need high end water cooling, or phase.
Not sure about the volts, would be different with each chip.

Looks like I'm getting close to the sweet spot for this chip. Here is it priming 3hrs 2950mhz @ 1.44v. bouncing between 37 and 38C.

Yes, the top is popped!, and Yea, I can prime 3gig at 1.5v, but that is where the volt scaling seems to start increasing. I need 1.32 @ 2.8, 1.49v @ 2900, 1.424v @ 2950, and then it jumps to 3.0 needing 1.5v. My chip likes the low volts, and seems to get out of the "sweet spot" at 2950.
but burn in is still helping, and I might get 1.47 for 3.0 in a few days.

Welp, I sold my old X2 3800 (0601 T chip) to a fellow XS member. Previously it did:

Here is what my LDBHE 3800+ 0601 UPMW (N) did yesterday with my mach 1 and a bad mount (It has a baker blok which is kind of hard getting to fit onto the cpu) something like +25C full load. http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=83647

Hoping for more with a better mount.

And BTW am I the only one expering that bumping up the voltage doesn't help. I had no difference between 1,584 and 1,712 V :confused:

Here's 1hr + dual prime 3000 @ 1.488v. Getting better as I burn in. Yeserday it took 1.5v. I can almost do 1.47v, but one core or the other fails around 20min.. These cores seem to be very, very close in weakness....1 isn't really better than 0, or vise versa.

I seem to have gotten myself a X2 3800+ LDBFE 0609XPMW (Z). It's the newest chip I've seen around. Google can't find anything about it. Has anyone tried any week 09 yet?
I'm really looking forward to see what it can do as soon as my swiftech apogee is here. Maybe I got a lucky chip this time. It's quiet some time since I had my last lucky chip, a really nice Athlon T-bird. :P

i tested my X2 3800+ on my DFI NF4 ULTRA-D, but with a crappy ZALMAN 400W APS...(unstable (dropping) vRails...)

2,4Ghz @ 1,4 vCore
2,6Ghz @ 1,425 vCore
2,8 @ ... > still testing..

just got mine in,

its a LDBHE 0606 EPMW T chip

priming at 2800 @ 1.52v on stock non-heatpipe hsf. ive had this for a couple of hours so the as5 still has to settle and burn in. i can't wait to see what this thing will do on water

This just came in yesterday, right now i'm priming 12 hours in at 2650mhz and 1.375vcore.

Temps are too high for me to take it further, need better cooling (i'll put it under my xp-90 after a 32 hours prime session)
