I'm on water. Right now GPU @ 600MHz maxes out at 38-40C.
You calibrate pencil mod voltages with a multimeter, I'm guessing.
And Tedy -- I can arrange some pictures, but the one you posted above is exactly the same as mine. Same PCB, same stock HSF, same everything.
-aMp-
i meant pics for voltmod etc....
supposed to be the same pcb http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...voltmods/112/1Quote:

Nice glamour shots, but how about a pic of the core?
I have a 0453 that was bought from Newegg and am theorizing on the OC... just would like to see what other core dates people are getting.
I am running X850 XT speeds on with this card with a Zalman VF700-Cu
6170 3dmark 2005
Still have to try for PE speeds
I removed the stock heatsink
Man was it a mess under there!
Goo everywhere
Yeah, I'm not so sure about the thermal "foam" they used, but the stock cooling solution actually isn't bad. With the copper core it's heavier and more effective than it looks. Of course, I only used it for about six minutes before slapping on a Maze 4.Quote:

I'm getting some GPU instability at 600+ and artifacting with the mem over 625; if a VGPU or VDIMM boost would likely push those numbers to 650/650 stable, and I don't feel like my liberal arts degree makes success impossible, I'll hit that @$#% like I was banana number two.
You're right about risk/benefit ratio, don't risk this good card :)
Dazog: so it's quite a mess under eh? I'll mount VF 700 CU today.
Hi,
For those who have mounted the vf700cu , what did you gain ?
I did gain so far around 5°C cooler GPU/mem.....but in terms of overclocking i gained sorry to say pure :banana::banana::banana:.......not even 10mhz GPU......something is holding these cards back.

Maybe you should try volt modding it?
Timings are the same on both cards.Quote:

Next week I got a x800GTO@x800XT and a X800GTO²@X850XT.
I'll see if i have some time to compare them.
Much better then waisting 30$...unless you're voltmoding it :slap:Quote:

VGPU is core voltage, VDD I beleive is vmem & VDDQ ?
It will be aircooled...

i was thinking that i might get one of these and replace my 6800gt, worth it? gt only does ultra speeds.
id stick with just modding vgpu and vdd thats all ive done , just to get core volts and mem volts up.Quote:

not really worth it unless you can get more then the cost of a gto2 for your 6800gtQuote:

Mine had even more grey gunk on the core, so much it was trapping the heat, I couldn' do the OC'ing I can do now!
I did put AS5 also :)
I don't mean to thread crap, but I am getting a little worried about my got2 order, and obviously alot of gto2 owners are viewing this thread...
I was wondering if anyone else had ordered the gto2 from atacom. I ordered mine on the 10th and haven't recieved any shipping info yet, and the status on the site is, "active" and has nothing for the shipping info. I sent them an email a few hours ago, but haven't heard back yet.
edit->recieved a response from them, "Sir. The video card is still not available. Therefore, your order
status is
pending."
That's it? WTF!?! I was never told that it was unavailable in the first place. It doesn't say out of stock anywhere on the site, and they have raised the price twice since I bought it. It is realy rediculous that they didn't even notify me that the card was oos. Besides, my status is "active" not "pending"
Yes, I also ordered from atacom and I called and complained to them...i didnt receive any emails or anything...i am very disappointed
weeeeeee
card is vmodded (VGPU, VDD & VDDQ)...haven't performed the IGPU
testing and pics tomorow !
darn you should have modded mine before you sent it to me.... ;)Quote:

7145p 3dmark05 Thats good i think. But the tricky part is that if i go over 580mhz on the core i get a black screen. My monitor switch to standby.
Annoying. Vmod is coming.
If anyone know why i get blackscreeens pleeezz tell me :P
am I the only one using a X850XT PE bios ? (maybe I could get better clock witu the modded 16p gto2 bios?)
with the vmod I got 615/625 for a first 3dmark2001 run...still testing
more to come later :)
I don't think so.. You should keep the X850 XT PE bios since it has better timings that let you have a better score at 3dmark.. :)Quote:

QUESTION TO THE MASSES:
Sapphire X800 GTO2 for $230 or Connect 3D GTO for $190?
How is the air cooling? Is it LOUD?
nice scores gocchin
the cpu and ram speed are ?
Yes its a bit loud for sapphire x800 gto² :)
@ gocchin: nice scores
could you send me the mem timings of your card? :toast:
which bios did you flash on it?
It looks like he was using this bios x800GTO2 @16p @ 400/490 (=stock speed)
Nice scores :D
I'm using it too, firstly i installed the gto2 modded bios, then i tried the sapphire x850xt pe bios and it worked fine, i think it can OC higher also! Maybe it was due to other reason but i could raise 5mhz core and 5mhz more to the memory.. Also i don't need the atitool installed to get higher freqs than stock... :p: ( tried to mod the gto2 bios changing his freqs but the bios editor got freeze when opening the bios file, not with older bios's )Quote:

Yes used the gto2 stock clocks wit 16 pipes bios. Those scores are with NO memory timing tweaks.Quote:

I would get the gto2 without a doubt over the gto... there's no guarantee to flash the gto to 16 pipes while the gto2 is pretty much guaranteed from what I've seen.
What do you think of replacing the stock coller for a Zalman VF700CU? Will I get better temps?
Anyone here was not succesfull on doing the mod?
What about Sapphire X800GTO FireBlade Edition
Mod or not ?
Don't think you can mod it (R423)Quote:

i have a 480 and the ABSOLUTE MAX i can get is 570 on the core without causeing a system hang. and still they might have gotten a 480 but they are alot less frequent in the firebladesQuote:

Any reason you guys went with the VR mod instead of the pencil? If the VR has definite advantages I might give that a shot, but I'll probably need a new soldering iron -- the Cold Heat thing I've got is great for quickie jobs but it may not be precise enough.
Also, how necessary is it to remove the card from the system before working on it? I'll do it if the alternative is frying my rig, but it's a major PITA to swap a waterblock on and off six times.
-aMp-
What is better, connect card thru adapter or direktly to PSU ?
i prefer the vr mod because its easier to fine tune the voltages , and once its on its permanently there till you remove it , pencil mod can degrade over time iirc.
i vmoded my old 9800xt whilst it was still in the case as i had water block and tec installed and was to lazy to mess around removing and then resealing it again.
but you may have a problem doing that to the gt02 with it still in the system as vdd mod the legs on the chip you need to solder are facing towards the motherboard so its hard to get to , and the vgpu is 2 tiny solder pads which are hard to get to whilst in the case.
which ever looks tidiest , i doubt you will notice any performance diffrence using a connector or direct psu connectionQuote:

651 on the mem... holy cow. What are you using to control the timings? What are said timings if you dont mind sharing?
I don't get , people here getting 600/600 easily...my max is like 565/600.....and sometimes atitool shuts down my pc.....wtf?!
I use the standard timings, all standard. I have a Sapphire with 1,6NS memory.
Just run ATI Tray tool and see what the timings are
Luck of the draw. These are unbinned R480 chips, so maybe yours would've been binned for an XT instead of an XTPE. Still, 565/600 for a $200 card is a sweet deal.Quote:
