HOLY $H!T, I just got through reading all 12+ pages of this thread. Never before have I bothered to read through that much of a thread.

I see this is still a hot topic.

I can't help you guys with anything, sorry. But Pirs, have you sold your processor yet? If not, PLEASE don't sell it on e-bay. Chances are some rich person will get it, won't know its true value, and then the Overclocking community and XtremeSystems will never get to study what happened.

You have something in your hands that literally had a one-in-a-million chance of happening. That processor is the key to unlocking the A64s that have eluded us for so many years.

DO NOT SELL IT ON E-BAY, PLEASE. KEEP IT WITH YOU IF YOU HAVE TO, BUT NEVER GIVE IT AWAY TO SOMEONE WHO CAN'T APPRECIATE IT FOR WHAT IT IS.

Now back to the topic, like the other person on page 7 or so of this thread, I've just read through the whole thing and have been on the edge of my seat the whole time. I really hope you guys can do something with this.

But remember, don't dismiss Pirs's chip, the difference between Pirs's chip and a locked 3000+ Venice is where the secret lies.

& maybe the 2 members with the unlocked +3000 could send them to an expert on this forum to research,examine it.

PLEASE measure your CPUs

I measured mine by putting black probe on the side line of blue lines, and red one on yellow pin. Resistance range set to 200kOm It is enough.

Pirs, can you do this procedure? It is safe. When meter measures resistance it only put 0.5 V to CPU. 2 CPUs with x9 multi max that I examined are still alive.

For those who measured values send results to tin@topmods.net for faster work.

:) ALSO anybody free to phone AMD to get unlocking HOWTO :) if you have sucess with this tell us :)

jesus christ! i wish i could do something like that with my winnie, with unlocked multies, does that mean you dont have to pump so many volts into it, like you do when upping the fsb? so it would keep the temp down? that's my one question

and then, in a bout a year, ima be moving to SA and may get a chance to work basically almost like the right hand man of david ritz, anyone think he could get somone at AMD to tell him how to do it?

You need resistanse measurer. It is real cheap (5-10$). Almost all PC owners have it.
I don't need extra accuracy from expensive devices as Fluke etc. I need only approx resistances.

Now I'm finding any dead S939 mobo, I need Socket to get access to contacts of CPU with keep it's power online. I'l try to get signals that it send to mobo emulating startup sequence.

But I have no possibility (money) to get brand new mobo+cpu only for experiments. I have only my main A8N-SLI (sux) and Venice E3 x9max

CrystalCPUID can rewrite values like NewFID and NewVID. Both are Read/Write.
Both bios and CrystalCPUID use the same technique to do this: A new NewFID-value is written to FIDVID_CTL.

MaxFID, on the other hand is Read only:

Attempting to rewrite this registry is like trying write to an already burned cd-r.
AMD sought to eliminate atleast the easiest ways to tamper with multis. It seems they succeeded. :(

Congrats on the unlocked cpu :)

I was thinking, in the earlier pictures taken with the red markings.. Cant someone measure if those two pins at the bottom right are connected?

If they arent connected then Pirs have to see if those two are connected on his 3000 venice..

I havent got an amd64 yet.. Ive just sold my P4 setup and ordered dfi ultra-b, 3000+ venice and some other stuff.. But when the stuff arrives, I will measure the pins on it. I´ll guess it arrives tomorrow or wednesday (I hope)..

I just finished reading through this whole thread and it got me thinking... and I realized that AMD created flash TSOP memory chip for Dish Network receivers. There was a certain models that contained this tsop which was read only. With a certain modifcation the flash tsop's could successfully be written through the JTAG interface. This modification increased the supply voltage from 3.3v to 12v with minimal load on the 12v supply.

Now this is just a guess, but maybe the MaxFID Read-Only Register can be modified using the same technique above. Maybe all it takes in applying the correct voltage to a certain pin, and a bios modification to modify the register during boot up process.

Hiya,

I want to measure but I'm scared of taking my cpu out, my s754 died like that.

due to the AS5 the cpu sticks on the heatsink to well, and I don't wont to bend any pins!

My Arctic Silver Ceramique sticks heavily also.

The easiest safest way to pull it out, (this is the way I do it), is to brace the edge of the case, with one hand, and pull, STRAIGHT OUT, Up...on the heatsink.

Once the proccy comes out of the socket the first time, you're doomed.

i've been watching this thread over at EOCF, and i thought i'd sign up here and try to contribute.

i've been looking through the MSR's with AMD's BIOS and Kernel Developer's Guide for AMD AthlonTM 64 and AMD OpteronTM Processors and CrystalCPUID (thanks for that app btw nemo :toast: ), and i think i might have found some things of interest.

it's pretty obvious that the Max_FID bits in MSR C0010042h can't be written by software. i think that maybe, however, the chip itself can write the bits in this MSR. it just has to be "told" to do so. for instance, the CurrFID has to change to reflect the current multiplier. those bits can't be written directly, though. but if InitFidVid, or "Initiate FID/VID Change", in MSR C0010041h is written to as "1", then whatever is in NewFID and NewVID is read and applied if they're are within the max/min values. then the chip writes CurrFID. i'm thinking that maybe there is a InitFidVid for the max/min values hidden in all of the "reserved" bits in C0010042h. the "NewMax" bits might be hidden in there, too. however, the reserved bits in C0010042h are marked as "MBZ", which means:

Been follwing this thread for awhile and it seems like you guys are on to someing. I own a 3000+ venice and save totally destroying it im willing to do just about anything. if you still need voltages mesured i think my multimeter can mesure resistance (ill check to be sure), Just let me know if theres anything i can do.

I've just been looking at a dead 3000 venice (donated to me by BazX). The components on the top of the CPU PCB, which have been assumed to be capacitors in the past appear to possibly be some sort of bridge. I've only done some very brief tests on them but they appear to have some sort of internal connection.

Does anyone want to investige the components on the top of the CPU? I would do it myself, but I've only got one (dead) A64 CPU here.

Edit: After some further investigation, it looks likey they are just supply smothing capacitors between Vcore and ground :(

well i went through each of the SBZ bits in C0010015 with hwdirect (thanks for that btw). i wrote each one to 1, but none of them had any affect on the writeability(sp?) of the bits in C0010041 or C0010042. :( i did notice something strange about bit 5 in C0010015, though. in amd's guide, it isn't grayed out in the register diagram like the other reserved bits are, and i can't write it back to 0 (all the other SBZ bits went back to 0 fine). might be nothing though.

maybe it has to be done physically like tegflyer's idea. i did see something in another tech doc from amd talking about JTAG pins.

this means that the register where currentMulti is stored, must be writeable, right?
So what needs to be done is to set the currentMulti-register, WITHOUT going in the main door (the one that checks the max multi available), right?

The only other option as I see it is to manipulate the MAX_MULTI and set it to a higher value, which most likely is not possible.

Now, I might be only a software architect, but sure as hell one must be able to address that section of the cpu.

This is unreal (about CPU and JTAG) because of you have no any PDF info regarding A64 CPUs describing JTAG Protocols and Commands for these cpus.

People measure your CPUs, do not be lazy fat mices. ;) Maybe Pirs CPU lost connection with one of STRAPs or another side - shorts to GND such pin and get free multi...

If no, it is also possible to write bit to 0 to CPU PROM (because when PROM manufactured all it's memory bits are 1 and when it is programmed, necessary bits become 0. But there is possible to re-programm that bits that remain 1 to 0.

You have 3000+ x9max cpu so your data will not be very important. but if you do if will be another piece to resolve this maze.

I need cpu owner with not venice3K cpu. I need to compare x9max cpu with others. Then I plan to isolate different pins and look what we get.

anybody can send me dead 939 CPU ?
Only important that cpu core is not mechanicaly damaged

I already done some researches.

Also I isolated such pins:

STRAP_E11 - nothing changed. CPU start and work as usual.
STRAP_F11- nothing changed. CPU start and work as usual.
RESET_L - boot fail. black screen
POWER_OK - nothing changed. CPU start and work as usual.
TDO - nothing changed. CPU start and work as usual.
TMS - nothing changed. CPU start and work as usual.
TCK - nothing changed. CPU start and work as usual.
(BTW, I think JTAG pins are only for CPU testing during MFG process, they aren't used by regular CPU work)

I'll try to isolate each NC_xx pin one by one and see what happens.

But I need some hardware :confused:

1. any dead cpu with multi other that 9
2. any dead FX even 51
3. any dead mobo for with good CPU VRM and not damaged socket (for powering up system and look thru boot up sequence)

If anybody have such things and can help tell me to tin@topmods.net.

We are going to do FX from Venice 3000. :slobber: Every small detail can help us. So, don't go thru topic and just laugh. :rolleyes:

Jus a thought, not sure if anyone has considered it. Someone said that the venice die could have been put on the wrong package, ie an FX one... this was discounted because dies are mounted on the package, speed binned, then have their max multi programmed. Thats all well and good. One thing i think has been overlooked (came to me in my sleep :P)
FX CPU's are of the SSOI process, not the standard SOI process. So they kno to a certain extent, which of their cpu dies are gonna be of the FX nature cus theyre strained silicone. With that in mind, could they have packages that are primarily used for the FX (SSOI) format?
Maybe this package was used by accident?
Dont kno too much about all that resistances and pins n all that. Plus i own a winnie so sorry

I have two dumps with my 3000+, one is at 230 HTT the other 200, there are differences between them and the ones posted above. the MSR C0010041 is the same as pirs on mine. dont know if thats relevant.

AMD worker answered me that CPUs programmed by JTAG.
So, people, go to search engines and try to get some PDF/Info about using JTAG WITH A64 cpus.

Listen here.

It is simple. :p:

1. take JTAG programmator. (most low-cost selfmade if 5$) :)
2. take PDF for JTAG implementation in A64 CPU (if you have any - send to me :fact: )
3. put cpu to programmator, poweron, flash register C0010042 and C0010041 with data from FX-57.
4. Enjoy your free-multi cpu. :slobber:

I give you a word that I make it freeware and freely distribute. BUT if you help me. Way 2: I'll do a lot of durty and timewasting work digging with protocols and etc. and of course I'll get success with this sometime, but. My time isn't free so it will be an expensive programmator then. So choose yourself. It is not a difference for me, I'll work on this way anyway, but.. i posted results words earlier. :stick:

On AMD Site there is nothing that can help us. I already searched there a few weeks ago.

We need something regarding JTAG intefrace in CPU. Not A64 even! Just AMD CPU. JTAG is already inside K7 cores. Maybe some absolete data from that cores are available. We need it

found info in an old amd model 4 PDF, gives pins and signal info, search Jtag or look on pages 37,63,77 (PDF pages), will dig deeper and see if anything else pops up out there, looks like you guys cought the big break.

Update, All pins are present on 939 processor except TRST# but there is a TRST_L rename? or are pins used for something new?

update2 on search of func data sheet 939 pin 31411, looks as if JTAG pin discriptions are posted there as well.

AM i searching for the right thing or just pulling up info that everyone already knows?

I could access the JTAG interface easily, I use it to repair broken PDA's.

However you need exact specifications on how to access the memory containing frequency settings etc. If you don't have these specifications it's impossible to even try and get it to work.

"jtag sum.doc" says something about connecting to the mobo debug connector, does this mean that the mobo already has the JTAG pins wired to the debug connector? I don't know if I'm making much sense but maybe we could use our own mobos to connect to the JTAG interface.

You find correct info, keep going. All necessary pins exist on 939. TRST is available as RESET_L i think.

JTAG1.pdf - this is just short desc.

Openwince - it is just a software for JTAG-devices. We have it already. We need info about A64's JTAG.

BTW, I forgot to say.

With JTAG programmator it is possible to do ANYTHING with CPU.
I think All registers will be R/W without any limitation. And you can unlock any CPU you want (even Opteron 8xx or other stuff) You can even lock FX back :) You can write a CPUID string like "4rory's Athlon 64 XSE" (X.S. Edition :lol: :)
So only the thing we need - JTAG algorhytm and technology for AMD Athlon cpu's.

I think that this tech isn't much change from K7 cores.
