congratulations, i wish you luck sir!
updates??????
Still waiting for the evap blocks, Chilly1 has been working on them for me
When I get them I will take tons of pictures of the system and getting is started up
Yumm :)
Ive been watching this thing progress over the months and I would have never imagined it would be qutie as complicated as it turned out to be.
I truely hope you get some amazing temps with this setup vette.
BTW, how may evaps will this beast have?
And how about work and a place to live?
Did you make that happen extremecorvette ?
i want to buy...

Keep us updated!
bump? whats goin on with this baby
Yeah come on.. This is one of the best projects ever so you can't pause it now ;)
I'm still working on it. I'm waiting for evap blocks from Chilly1
I want to try to get the system running by the 30th of Nov. I'll make sure to start posting more pictures and updates
Yeah. Still waiting for those blocks? Wow....
yes I am. Chilly1 said he will ship them today so I hope to be up and running next week
omfg this is awesome! never seen such a beautiful cascade!
hope you get the -100/-100 @ cpu/gpu :D
I hate waiting on stuff seems to take forever.
have you been tuning the cascade any more.
No, I'm living 2 hours from Iowa State Univ. so I'm waiting to get all the parts before I head back up there.
YHPM, as always man really nice nice work.
pics pics? :))
its not 30 nov yet
give the man some slack, its better when he works on it without the pressure of the whole forum ;)
Hehe.. almost though :DQuote:

I called Reggie today and he said he has them done and will try to ship them out Thuresday. So I just have to get a few days off next week and I'll get this bad boy done. Done as in running.
Sweet,
So, is 27.8k views of this thread a record here at XT Systems?
RussC
Can't wait to see this thing running!
The "Production Line Second Gen" thread by chilly1 has 31.7k of views but I don't know if it is a record.
Parts are coming from Reggie; I should have them by Wednesday. I waiting to see when Sporlan can send me an A7A valve and I will have everything. I'm shooting for Thursday to start working on it.
Huge Thank you to everyone that has helped me out, and Thank you Reggie Aka Chilly1
I just need to get my controller from Ssilencer and gclg2000 and I will be able to set everything up
Fuggers 7.2 thread has about 300.000 views
I'll race you....jking.Quote:

of course no offense ment...but that thread is a sticky in one of the highest trafficed areas about overclocking on the internet.Quote:

Right,

Huge Case! Cant wait for Benches!
Ohhh i'm so excited....
Is it finished yet?
I need to find a place to host pictures. Do you guys know a place to host huge amount of pictures for free! I can't load pictures to my Iowa State Server off campus. So I have to find a place to host pictures.

If I get time today I will post the pictures. Sorry it's taking so long.
i can´t wait to see more pix of your impressive unit
leave a meal an take this time to post the pics here ;)
check your old parts to see if you accidently mixed them up and left a 1/8 ton seat in 1 valve,it happens.
love this thread :woot:
New drooling pics, awesome, great to see some movement at last :)

15th Update 1-2-06
I finally got back in to the lab to finish the beast, and look what my friends put on the system.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28270%29.jpg
With the new Crossfire and SLI systems coming out I wanted to change this system to work as a crossfire system. So instead of having 2 evaps it now will have 3.
I started off by getting the two new 90 degree evaps blocks polished. Thank you Reggie for making the evap blocks for me. I used the same steps to polish the evap blocks as I did before. To 0.005 Micron finish
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28279%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28278%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28276%29.jpg
With the evaps polished and pressure tested. I have to remove the old evap block.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28284%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28286%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28280%29.jpg
With two evap blocks merging into one suction line I had to make a manifold for them to merge into the 3/8" suction line.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28289%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28288%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28290%29.jpg
With the two evaps I wanted to make sure the 1/8" lines that feed the evap blocks after the A7A valves were all the same length.
In the old setup I only had one A7A valve so I had to add a second. I'm running out of room fast.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28285%29.jpg
All brazed in places.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28291%29.jpg
I made sure to have a dry nitrogen gas bleed any time I brazed on the system.
With the GPU evaps in I went to work on the TXV's. Sporlan sent me the 1/4 ton kits. With the kit I can make the SRE-1/8 ton valves a 1/4 ton valve.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28273%29.jpg
This is what comes in the kits
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28274%29.jpg
You can see on the left is the 1/8 ton and the right is the parts of the kits.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28275%29.jpg
You have to using the gagging card that comes with the kit to find the new length of the push rods. Then you get to file them down to length.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28282%29.jpg
You want to make sure there all the same. So I got them all same length down to the .0000 I once I got the first push pin to length I zeroed my calipers to that length and made sure I got each one the same length. It does take some time.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28283%29.jpg
With the push pins all the same length I put the new parts in both valves.
After installing the dual GPU evaps I vacuum pumped the system down. With the system vaced down I put instrument propane or R290 in the system up to 1-2 psi on the gages.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28301%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28271%29.jpg
After that I charged the system with R1150 to 100 psi, I did this on both the CPU and GPU systems.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28292%29.jpg
With all the stages charged up and ready to go, I fired up the 1st Stage.
It toke me some time to get both TXV's to balance out. Both are the same parts in them and look what settings I had to have them at to get the evaporator temps to be the same.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28304%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28298%29.jpg
I shut the system down over lunch and came back and fired it back up to see if both would balance out again or if I was going to have to tweak it again. Both balanced out with in 1-2 degrees at all times. I fell really well about that set up. The only down side to it is it takes about 30 minutes to get them both down to temp. Each one will hunt. At start up each valve is opening and shutting, the range they hunt starts off large and decreases each time they hunt. In about 30 minutes with stay with in 1-2 degrees at all times. But at start up one suction line leaving the evaporator can be at -45C and the other at 20C.
But both will get down to -44C to -45C on the suction line leaving the evaporator with a suction line pressure of 1 psi, that puts the evap temp at -52.5C
Picture of the suction line leaving the evaporator
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28294%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28303%29.jpg
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28295%29.jpg
With the 1st Stage down to temp I fired up the 2nd Stage.
The A7A valve frosted over in under a minute.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28300%29.jpg
The temp on the evap block dropped from room temp to -65C in 4 minutes. I had to adjust the A7A valve to get the evap block down to -84C.
I was checking every discharge and suction presser to see what was going on.
http://www.cryo-laboratory.com/uploa...0%28305%29.jpg
I was not able to get the evap block past -84C. I tried everything, with the A7A valve I changed the suction line pressure from 20 psi to 15 in HG in a vacuum and I wasn't able to get lower than the -84C. With R1150 at 0 psi the temp should be at -103C. I worked on the system trying different charges and charging to different static pressures. But -84C was the best I could do. It didn't hit me until I packed the system up and was haling it home that my temp probe wasn't rated for any lower than -65C. So I have just ordered three probes that are good down to -200C and I will recheck the system with the new probes.
According to the chart we have the system running at -103C
This has been a great project. Even after I started this project I had tons of new ideas for the next, on how could I make it better.
I'm not done just yet. I am working on new design that will blow you away. I was going to bench mark on this system but after talking with ATi, AMD, and Sapphire we think it's going to be best to do it with the new system design.
I will once again post all the build pictures and walk you thought the build process. I hope to add video to the next project post.
I want to thank all the people that made this project happen and all of you for watching and posting your feedback.
Coming soon
Mother of All Crossfire Systems, -1XXºc X Evaps and Cools the Motherboard also!!
I marked the old parts with a permanent marker so I couldn’t mix them up. The parts in them are all the new parts.Quote:

I think most ppl have to vacuum to get -100c which is quiet hard really unless using massive compressors.
I think its cause the system is so large that temps arnt close to -100c, and with valves ya need the right ones for given load(never dealt with them before, have you though of trying capillary line, I know it would be a pain to change though, might be worth a try one day)
Some times ya need load on these things to up the pressures to get better temps. This system still goes down in history as one of the greatest builds even at -84c or what eva it is at load.:toast:
I don't know what the total cost is, I was able to get most everything donated to Iowa State Unv. I have $500 of my own money in it.Quote:

wow, I just now happened onto this thread. Dont find myself in the phase section often, but this was a great read, even if it did take an hour and a half. :)
congrats on the monster system, and I'm really interested to see what you come up with next. Excellent work! :toast:
So what was the final verdict. Been kinda following this thing for MONTHS and it keeps changing.
How many heads? And does it still cool the mobo?
Nathan, I can't believe the run around this message board gave me just so I could sign up and post this saying good job. Excellent work! :woot: I'm excited to see what's next!
-Ben
3 evaps, and it cools the motherboard. I didn't finish the dielectric bath on this unit because I want to start ASAP on the new system.Quote:

love this thread keep it coming mate
hurry up with that new system!! wanna see some benchmarks on this thing
Amazing stuff :toast: . Now I wanna see some benchmark's with FX57 and 2x x1900xtx under evaps:D
Really nice work
bump!!
I'll second that, need to see some more development out of this thread...I 9and the rest of us) got far to excited to see this dye off now. ;)Quote:

Maybe you should start a new thread for this new system? Maybe Mother of all Cascades Revision2
father of all cascades? :P
the mother is here in Vegas.. I have to catch up with my other projects first I ahave been sick way too lonk.. and I will be headed intot he docs again for further testing as I am still only partially recovered and worried it may be more seriious...
I know its awful when your not 100%, Take a nice long vacation and get away from the stress.;)
Brrrrr. That is so cool.

When "Father" and "Mother" are done, can I have one of their children? :D
Well steve... then you have to wait 9 more moths :D
sheesh.. I want to see some results with the mothercade.
this is like building the ultimate computer and then setting it aside while u build another one, never having used the first ultimate computer.
Yeah personally Id try to get the first one working then build the second one, seems like alot of money going in there
Not very fun if there is no results with the first one :(
kinda killes the exitment
Give Chilly1 some time and he will get her done. I just can't wait to get this one started. I have few new ideas that will go in to this one, that will make a huge diffrence
