I'll tell you right now - the reason why that EPAW is that good isn't because of it's stepping ;) Take a look at the cpu's again and you'll see why I say that.....

You know, the only reason I posted so quickly was because I had seen another post not knowing what the answer was. I figured I'd save a couple of pages of wrong guesses so this thread could be easier to navigate, but somehow that post had disappeared while I was writing my response :confused: ???

For those that don't know, let me explain what a batch code is so you can form your own opinions on this topic. Cpu cores are made of silicon which is cut from one large silicon wafer. The process starts in the center of the wafer (the first core cut out will receive a batch number of 0001) and move outwards from there. Personally I believe in the "lower the batch code, the better the cpu" theory. Most all cpu's I've tested have conformed to this. Now every once in a while AMD may have just a bad silicon wafer and this in turn would produce an average cpu, even if it's batch code is #1. Here's an example of a nice wafer :) , my x2 4600+ (now OPB's) had a batch code of 0029:

Oh I forgot to say, there always will be exceptions to this rule though my 3200+ Venice - LBBLE 0515APAW, batch code in the 500's, did better than most others I've seen with the same stepping:

Im working on stabalising my chip with prime95 stabilty (WC) have gone over 3hrs @ 2906mhz but have failures after tht. I have everything enclosed in my case, im sure if i removed the pump (from the case ofcourse!!) my temps would come down a bit!!

Im only using 1.45v for 2.6, maybe you should try and burn in the cpu for a lower Vcore?

My 3200+ LLBLE 0517GPBW - put it into my system this afternoon and having seen these OverClocks i was hoping for something special! Thought i'd try 2700mhz @ 1.4v just to see what would happen...immediate restart in windows. :(

Ended up so far at 2700mhz @ 1.55v (super-pi 32meg, gaming stable)

Haven't tried lower voltages yet, but hopefully after a decent burn-in she'll do 2.7G @ around 1.50v...not spectacular but its ok. Max stable OC at default voltage was only around 2.6G, which was a little dissapointing. Temps never went above 50C so it runs cool (28C idle!). Aiming for 2.8G eventually. :)

Hmz, the burn-in helped me a lot. I'm down to 1.424v now at 2.7ghz. The cpu didn't want to do prime at 1.48/1.45 or anything close to it. Then I ran burn-in for less then 2 hours and I was able to prime at 1.45v I think. Ran 12h burn-in this night and now it works flawless on 1.424v ;)

Open Cpu Burn-in and let it run for 12h if you want "serious" burn-in but I ran it for 1h now and it made it a little bit more stable.
