I was very impressed with the weight, thermal paste and thickness of the IHS when I removed it, but there is no question that direct contact between your core and your selected HSF works better than the interference caused by the AMD IHS. Honestly (and I said it in my original post) this was the best two hours I've ever spent modifying hardware. Even considering the problem I ran into with my XP90 heatsink.
