Personally I find it kind of pathetic that a 110nm GPU would consume more power, produce more heat, and be less capable of higher clockspeeds than a 130nm low-k core. Those 130nm chips must be extremely tweaked. They run 500MHz on stock air cooling, while it requires H20 to run at 500MHz on an XL.
Ever heard of Prescott vs. Northwood? New process vs. refined process, simple as that.
Yeah, it's not great, but looks what it's doing despite all that. To me, the X800 XL is WAAAY better than it should be (especially at the prices it's going for!). :)

Anyhow Ive managed to do a few benches, my last for a while as Im on the move again (going to Leicster now). Im going to get a friend of mine to upload the score. Im quite happy with it tis 31299 with tccd, and cats 5.3.
From wht ive seen cat 5.3 aint good for benching, also the peeps above me are using BH5's. Wish some of the more experienced peeps here would give some advice abt the drivers they are using, im sure tht if I had got some more feedback I could have broke 31500k.
Anyhow, im off now (library time ran out) thanxs to those who did give a helping hand, hope to see some more input.

OK: I pencil voltmodded my His X800XL IceQ to about 1.5V~ and got the core up to 480 in 3Dmark01, and with 480/600 I finally made it above 30K
But only by a 100 or so :( And its getting 10-12 degrees warmer - like ~60C)

Just to give you an idea of the stability of this card, just spend the last hour and half playing need for speed hot pursuit for with the card at 500/605 and not a single artifact, hickup or anything... 1.55v on the gpu by the way.. Im hoping it has more in it.. But not willing any thing by increasing the volts and killing my card.. By Saturday I will have enjoyed my time at the top by then, my few moments of glory :D

It seems that the 2.0 ns ram have a max.@ 2.08-2.12V. I have 1.6ns(samsung on club 3d x800xl vivo) ram can I still go with it to 2.08-2.12V. ? or is it too high?

WOW so even with that much volts you cant hit over 600.. Almost seems that the 2.0ns ram is ocing better than the 1.6ns?

...try more power on VDD(0,05V. - 0,1V. more will be save), my stockVDD was ~1,818Volt now it is @~2,04V on club 3d! not powercolor and with 1,6ns ram not 2,0ns ram.

Eradicator put up some good marks. But I have a feeling he won't be so lucky next time...
Down on cpu power but up in video power, however dragothic still favours Eradicators cpu/card combo it seems, so you only have nature. If the cards were more weedy ( like 6600GT ) then it'd be more equally split between the tests so favouring your better card clocks.
I'm sure there's more to come though.

SO strange.... I gained SOOOOO little from DI on the 3000+....
Must be the 9x multi, and either my board or the CPU just can't hack high htt. ANything north of 320 just wouldn't work :(

Try 331-3 BIOS, 7X multi, RAM @ 133Mhz, most RAM settings on auto (well, except the basic ones). Helps me clock my 0447UPCW 3000+ at least 50-60Mhz higher. I know you'll ned very high HTT but my board has no stability problem up to 450Mhz.Quote:

hi mate, what clocks are on that x800xl? I am just a tad over you in 01 with about 28.3k. I have my gpu at 432 and ram at 567. Hope to get it higher when my silencer 5 arrives and a little ceramique.
Cantankerous, you running Win 2k? That might be why you're ahead, because in his other compares it shows his GPU at 469MHz and he's running XP and DirectX 9.
Hi there, actually no I am running winxp. An nlited winxp but still xp. My cpu is only at 2580 and my gpu only as stated above at 432/567 and I still get 28.3. I thought my score was bad for my lower specs I guess it is ok. The only thing I can see helping is the fact that I have bank interleave enabled on my 2 X 512 sticks. BI doesn't work on 2 x 256 chips. The other thing is my ram is BH-6 with VERY tight timings over his TCCD. My page file is also on a seperate drive if that helps.

Hey... just obtained a BBA ATI X800XL. Wondering if temp monitoring is available because I can't seem to find it/enable it in ATItool. Tried Atitool 0.23 and 0.24 Beta 7 (Beta 7 doesn't even recognize the card).
i couldnt find it in ati tool either , its in riva tuner though
use rivatuner, it's REAL nice with the XL...
well i finally got my connect 3d X800 XL rma returned and so far this card seems better , doing 470 core and 600 mem with no volt mods ( old card did 450-460 core 570 mem) and finally broke 30k in 01 on win xp link

a question between all the overclocking;
Do you guys also have troubles installing the new catalyst 5.4s ? If i try to install them (with CCC or without it) the setup hangs when installing the WDM devices. I have had the same problem with the 5.3s.
5.2s are working like a charm. I tried to install them on a fresh WinXP SP2 install (reinstalled tonight). Upgrading to 5.4 with 5.2 installed with skipping the WDM drivers results in a 640x480 16 color screen after rebooting :(
Can't seem to solve it.
id wait to install and see if theres any performance gains with the new cats.. if the old ones work well for you why change

For those of you looking for how much it increased over stock:
max overclock: speed(percent increase) 478(19.5%)/594(21.2)
3dmark05(percent increase) 5526(16.0%)
stable overclock 470(17.5)/589(20.2)
5459(14.6%)
stock score 4763
478/594 wasn't stable for gaming, but it did increase the score by 1.2% over the stable overclock. Core increased by 1.7%, mem by .85%
It seems to scale very well, if you can get it to overclock well.

The card seems to be burning in now
477/597 is benchable, and I hit 5567 in 05
470/594 is stable for gaming with a score of 5482
I don't have any new screenies but new scores are in my sig. :) Oh and finally got 01 to install, it was a dumb service. :p:
