We have tried no check that box Soki... but still doesnt working...

any other tip?
thank you again.
You must check this box!
What version of rivatuner you are using? I think its not working with 15.3NY, try with 15.2 or 15.4 :)

Awesome stuff everyone! Such a cool find.
Hey Ackbar, I wanted to find out if your card was the eVGA 256 MB one they have at Newegg. I also wanted to hear the results of the other guys playing with one.
I am very interested in this card if it can be unlocked or overclocked. I also wanted to know if anyone knows whether the plain 6600 is overclockable at all, since the pricing is really close to the 6200. Any thoughts. $125 for eVGA 6200 256 MB or $135 for Chaintech 6600 128 MB. BTW, anyone been able to unlock a Chaintech yet?
Thanks for the all the information everyone.
Peace. :)
Hey guys... what software do you use to change ID?
its a Bios mod, rigth? and what software do you use to edit ur bios?
thanks!
Are you sure you don't have a 6200 TurboCache?Quote:

I've got the 128 MB one, even the 6600GT's usually only come with 128 MB. I think the 256 one is not really necessary unless you specifically do stuff that is useful for 256 MB.Quote:

I do like to do 3-D Animation, Game Design, and Web Design stuff so I might be able to take advantage of the extra 128 MB, although I wish there was more research I could find out there on whether or not it is effective or if it affects the ability to unlock or overclock.
Thanks again! I am on the verge of buying one of these, can't hardly wait!

Hmmmmm,.....interesting. I don't have my 6200 in my system at the moment but I could have sworn Rivatuner said it was A3. To get the mod to work, I had to enable units 0 (obviously) as well as 16,17,18 and 19. I still don't know what those units are  Maybe a variance in the procedure is needed for different core revisions??Quote:
my friend's card it is 256mb, and it shows (A4,4x1,3vp) ... A4? hehe.
Jay
GSJ, my card shows the exact same thing in rivatuner ,A4,4x1,3vp and it won't unlock either.
I've tried different versions of riva tuner and none of them seem to work. The box is checked, but it still shows the pipe as disabled.
Kargatane,
Maybe you could try to enable different combos of units 16 thru 19 in Rivatuner's custom screen. Any one, two or three might give you different results than all four. There may a problem getting the A4s to unlock.
Jay
Already tried that. I spent the better part of a day tinkering with 16-19, if I changed any one of those, I could never get a boot back into windows.
It would just sit at a black screen unless I booted into VGA mode and changed the driver.
Kargatane, which card do you have?
damn... what A4 means?? :(Quote:

thanks! cya.
Maybe if we find one A4 GF 6600 chip... hehe, then see what are enable and not, so try to copy...
just imagining... wondering... maybe i am dreaming.

Over at newegg the 256mb eVGA is only $2 more than the 128mb eVGA. The only other differences in the specs listed at newegg is that it seems like the 128mb has 3.6ns ram and the 256mb version has 4ns ram. Which one should I go with?
Edit: or should I just get this Apollo card. One of the users said it was unlocked to 8 pipes and it appears to have 3.6ns ram.
Mine is turning out to be a pretty goofy card actually.
It's a Chaintech 6200 agp w/256. On chaintech's website it states that the card comes in multiple clockspeeds and either 128 or 64 bit.
According to their website, it says those with a mem speed of 400 mhz are 64 bit. Mine out of the box is at 400, but it's 128 bit. At least rivatuner and everything else seems to say 128 bit.
I haven't really tried to oc it much because I can't get the pipes open, but I do know it does 350/550 without a problem.
anyone got anything on the Chaintech 128mb 6200 AGP's?? They seem to be the cheapest and I am wondering if they are able to unlock. Otherwise I might have to wait for the Leadtek's to come back in stock I guess. What about the eVGA's? THanks for the help.
Maybe A4 is nvidia telling TSMC to stop the 6200 nv43's being forced into 6600nv43's to stop sales of 6600 being affected ?
I'm up to 18k in 3dmark 2001 at 400/550 with my 6200/6600/nv43 and just got past DrJay ..shame I cannot publish due to generic vga problem ..
:D

I'm very curious to try, but I have no idea what setting in the bios would have that type of change to the card?

Said he was trying to post but couldn't for some reason.

This guy cannot post to a website
This guy can however fix a motherboard BIOS so it enables an extra 4 pipes.
Go figure, as Mastercard would say ..... priceless.
That's the motherboard BIOS that only can control the rate and buffer size of what is going from and to the card and not what the gpu/vpu on the card is doing. For example you can set fast writes but you cannot set gpu/vpu speed through the BIOS nor the screen resolution.
I get the feeling that desperate people are starting to reach out for the bottle of snake oil from the quack.

Andy
damn this thread has grown a lot since i was last here..hehe...anyways, i've been absent in search of a vmod for the core as i've maxxed myself out on default volts..unfortunately softmods aren't possible...i've got the vmem mod working wonderfully..now to just get the vcore...hopefully i'll have some more data to work with soon..anyway, for your situation kargatane...don't listen to that guy that PM'd you..to begin with, if he can't get on our site then i'm not quite sure how he PM'd you..lol...and second of all, the motherboard bios does not control ANYTHING regarding unlocking the pipes of your GRAPHICS card..lol...it seems that A4 may be a new core revision that permanently locks out those pipes, although that certainly sounds a little far fetched..there has to be some way to get them to open, especially since it shows them as being there...i think if nvidia wanted us to stop unlocking them they'd simply use the TC core instead of the 6600 cores...either way, i'd be interested to see if we could find you a Chaintech 6600 bios that you could try and flash with, perhaps it will unlock the pipes...despite my bios flashing not doing exactly what i had hoped (permanently unlock pipes) it may be different on these core revisions...i'll take a look around, see if i can find a AGP 6600 bios from Chaintech...and if anyone else here has a 6600 chaintech please post, we can provide you with instructions to save your bios right off the card. Thanks!
That's exactly what my thought was, how is anything in the MB bios going to alter the pipes on the VC?
A 6600 bios might be nice to try if I could find one. I wonder though, what would be the effect of flashing it with the bios from a different company? Maybe even flashing it with the bios from another 6200 that easily unlocks the pipes?
The funny thing, is this card is in my junk/test system along with a s754 2800+ sempron that I've been too busy screwing with the video to even try and see what I can pull out of the sempron.
I just did a 22340 for 6200/6600 DDR1 but can not publish scores and did not get screen print
Feeble I know :D
More to come this weekend.
Regards
Andy
Ok... so now what we need is a 6600 AGP Bios... :)
ah, and 256Mb. :D
there is anyway to change this in Bios? the quantity of memory...
someone have a friend with a 6600? send us the Bios!!!
thanks.
EDIT: hey, i was searching for the 6600 256mb cards... just to compare to my card.
Ok, watch...
EVGA GF 6200 256MB/picture: http://images10.newegg.com/productim...130-226-02.JPG
Now see AOPEN GF 6600 256MB AGP, the only difference it is the cooler... even the capacitors are in the exactly same position... http://images10.newegg.com/productim...135-169-02.JPG
And in last, but not less important... hehehe, the chaintec 6600 256mb AGP... exact the same has the evga 6200 256mbhttp://images10.newegg.com/productim...145-112-02.JPG
So... i was thinking, all these cards have the same core, even the 6200... and they are so similar...
there is no why for a bios change to make the 6200 work like the 6600.
what you think guys? :D
you're absolutely right GSJ - all 6200/6600's use the exact same core and exact same PCB design, which is why vmem and vcore mods are universal for these two cards. The only time it changes is at 6600GT which uses the same core but different PCB design due to the fact that it has GDDR3 and needs different power specs. The bios is a very strange thing though, and i don't know why. When i flashed my card to a gigabyte 6600 w/128mb ram it simply booted into windows as a "NV43" and not a geforce 6600 or 6200..i actually had to force a driver install to get it remotely close to working. even then it was all screwed up, so i just flashed back. I"m not sure of results other people would get from flashing however, so if anyone feels like giving it a shot, let us know what happens :)

CYA!!!
I wish I could help you guys out with the VCORE mod, but my card has been sitting idle since the death of my last Ultra-D. My intention was to perform the VCORE mod immediately after I soldered up the VMEM mod, but my board died shortly after a few test runs.
Take a digital multimeter and start poking around the CORE area of the card. You'll either find the right spot to pencil/solder, or render your card as a sacrifice to the p\/\/n3D gods. :D
OK, 14 Pages of stuff and it comes down to this. I'm about to buy, I'm
inviting a poll for whoever wants to help me decide. Money.. is.. burning..

If I go with 6200, I'm hoping to unlock and maybe overclock a little.
If I go with 6600 I'm just hoping for middle ground performance.
If I go with 6600GT I'm obviously going to get performance, but refurbed?
Thanks to any and all for help!
Just get the GT. It's got DDR3 so your memory clocks will be a lot sweeter. So what if it's refurbished. The price is nice. ;)
GSJ - there is a site www.mvktech.net which has bioses for everything practically..being that the 6200's are new their selection isn't that great, but they still have a lot of bioses and whatnot..they are also the makers of the wonderful NiBiToR geforce bios editor. Good luck with AOpen, lets hope they're nice :)
Conrad - when you gettin that DFI back bro? did you RMA it? you've been without it for weeks now!!
I've had my 3rd Ultra-D for a while now. RMAs with Newegg only take a week. I'm prepping the board for subzero temps, which is why it's not getting put to use. I'm also waiting for the FX57 to come out before I start playing again. As soon as that CPU is released, I'll be up and running pronto. And yes, I'll give the 6600 one last run with a VCORE mod before I retire it. ;)
nice conrad - what exactly do you do for subzero? and what kind of subzero? just a vapo or a chilly cascade? All i do to "prep" is put the foam down and the thermal paste on the socket like asetek tells me too..lol..let me know!
I got my Ultra-D in today. I tried doing the pencil mod, but I used a mechanical pencil since I don't have any actual pencils sitting around... that didn't cut it.
In any case, I'm getting some more "goodies" in tomorrow, maybe I can push past AB86's scores...
BTW- AB86, what do you use for ramsinks? BGA ramsinks are too small, do you use one and center it or do you just try and put two of them on there?
This is going to be my first attempt with something other than air cooling. I take that back - my Celeron 300A was peltier/air-cooled. :D
I'm basically going by the guide published by LardArse. chilly1 phase change units are what I'll be rockin' for both the CPU and GPU. My buddy, ronacevedo, still has a surplus of Flourinert in his garage. I think I'll eventually go submerged in the summer time with either a chilly1 cascade or a set of his DI/LN2 containers. We'll see.
You guys and your phase... I'll probably go to water eventually, but I really hate messing around with my system once it's in place. I really don't want to have to worry about cleaning the water and everything like that. I want something that cools without anything beyond minimal maintence. For now, that means air.
wrong. There is a different (shorter)pcb being used by some manufacturers. It isn't any longer than the part of the pcb that held by the mobo agp clip. There also appear to be many differences between pci-e and agp cards.Quote:

right jay - i should have been more precise...i meant a majority of the pci-x cards are exact core and exact pcb design..a lot of the agp cards have that short pcb, and i guess they're being adopted on the pci-x now...Quote:

Most nVIDIA cards are allergic to the cold. There aren't too many who have been successful travelling down that road. :(
Anyone care to vote besides Conrad? Up Above
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...041#post763041
I know where Conrad stands, seems to lean towards higher end, but I'm hoping some of you will be brave and will vote for the low end Super Overclocked Mamas.
If not that's cool, thanks anyways! Thanks for the vote Conrad! Good point.
Is that why you went with the X850? I think the AMR for ATI will be pretty impressive if someone gets two x850 xt pe's on phase... although that would be a b1tch spacewise.Quote:

Just an update on the 6200 front... we need a vcore mod BAD!

BTW- Got my Zalman in and now I'm idling at 40 and load is at 50. Not that great in my mind, but the best I can do. I definitely need vcore and vmem mods, but I'm all thumbs, so I'm going to have to wait until I can send it off to someone.
The VDDR mod is easy. The spacing between the chip's legs are nice and wide. You can be all toes and still be able to pull it off. Go for it. I made that guide so that you and AB86 can take over the world with your 6200s. ;)
Which is the best driver for nvidia 6600?
How to vmod my card? I have Eagle 6600 128MB AGP.
Thx. But Eagle pcb not same as Inno 6200.
Just talked a bit with Shamino on VR and sounds as if the GPU Vmod is found on reference 6200 PCB, but soldering point is difficult
Vmod RAM is done and i raise up to 720MHz in 01 artefact free Ã:banana: 2.7V without any heatsink on
I'll post asap my results on GPU Vmod
I just picked up a 6200, and I did the 8 pipeline mod, When ever I bench I get horrible core dots(the white little ones). It is fine when benching with 4 pipes, but when I do the mod it goes crazy. Is there anyway to fix this or can this 6200 not be flashed.

OMFG :o
Thats more than I scored with my 6800!?!
How does it look in game benchmarks and 3dmark03 ? :) (i dunno if you´ve posted a score allready. My browser is f*cking up. :/ )
Gratz with the card and your nice overclock. You´ve really done a GREAT job :D
ah, finally got my motherboard :)
my 6200 is 8 pipes modded and Sparkle is the brand.
results at the moment : 550/681 Gpu/Memory
cooling : box
I did 3dmark 2003, 7100 pts ~ but cpu was 2400 mhz
screen soon :)
I'm going to run 3dmark at better frequencies and better cpu frequency too.
Evil, quick question. Is yours AGP or PCIe? BTW, where can you purchase Sparkle brand Video Cards? Anywhere in the States?
Thanks.

I’m really impressed with what you guys have done with these cards. I’m returning my recently purchased FX5700 for this one. I have a few questions for you guys.
What is the status of the voltage mod?
I would like to activate the temperature monitoring on the card, I read you guys had to hex edit the bios. I’m okay with computers, but have no idea how do to that. But if I were to over-clock, I think that would be a critical aspect to have. Can you show me or give me a copy of your bios?
I see you had to get the Rivatuner to unlock the extra pipelines, once you set it, does it stay that way or do you have to reset it every time you restart your computer? Is there any way to rewrite the bios to do it for you? I read you guys were looking into this and wondering if anything came from that.
It would be nice just to download the changed bios to flash the card…
I just got my Apollo 6200 PCI-Express in but I can't test it because I have no processor yet :(. From what I can tell the PCB looks just a little different than the pictures on newegg. I can't get a look at the core though because there's this really thick thermal paste on it that I can't get off. I hope this thing softmods. How does everybody's PCB look?
Did some more tweaking and now have an overclock that I'm comfortible with. I'm now running my 6200 AGP @ 425/650 and getting 5920 in 3dmark03 and 2571 in 3dmark05. :)
This thread was leading me towards a 6200 but I ended up getting a 6600 GT Refurbished at Newegg for $157. Thanks for all the tips, I thought I'd post in case anyone was interested.
They have a bunch of them. .99 cent shipping on everything until April 4th. I think it's a great deal if anyone is still looking for a card. I ended up with this card. (refurbished though)
MSI 6600GT
Thanks to everyone for the info. I will post back whether it's a decent card, and good luck with the 6200 Overclockin' Push those cards til they fry. :)
CLICK HERE to see some more AGP cards from Newegg.
well been reading for the last 2 hours (lol)
and considering my upcoming "downgrade" selling the stuff in my sig and buying...
2x asus A8N SLI standard (they cheap as hell)
2x 3000+ s939 (or 1 3000 and 1 3200)
1x 1GB dual kit (2x512mb kingston)
1x 512mb kit (2x256mb OCZ or Geil UltraX or similar)
2x of so far undecided 500w+ PSU's with active PFC (any ideas? around the 100-130$ range)
2x TT Tsunami Black windowed
and last but not least
2x 6600GT PCI-E (duh!)
but after reading i must admit i'm fairly tempted to get a asus 6200GE for the 2nd rig instead of a 6600gt for both (allthough the SLI option for LANs is veeeery tempting)
but i'd still need ramsinks+the zalman to get it to perform like it "should"
so around 100$ + an added cost of around 30-35$ for sinks+cooler
granted the around 80$ i'd save could be used on something nice.. like say a new res for the water and a gpu head+sinks to slap on the 6600gt (those stock coolers can be way noisy)
so i'm a bit confused now.. cant decide what to slap in the 2nd rig
but excellent work indeed :bows:
take a 6200 if you haven't too much money to spend .. :)
in other case buy 6600 GT... :)

i've got the temp mod right here, though i warn you i'm not reliable for you modding your card, anything having to do with your card screwing up is at your own fault.

In the other machine the nvidia drivers just acted a bit strangely and everything detected it as a 6200 still.
So what's the current status on a modded bios which keeps the pipes open? Is there one that works floating around? This card is supposed to reside in a linux only box so the rivatuner pixel pipe unlock won't work.
i dunno how to unlock the pipes with bios, umm i have a 64 bit 6200, but got the info from a 128 bit 6200, i don't think i had a 6600 bios on that one

tha's the website that gave me the info, all i did was add the temp reading string, an' tha's all and my card is a chaintek
Can you post up a picture of you how your 64 bit 6200 looks?
Yo men!
I've bought a 6200 Sparkle PCI-Express 128MB and I've succesfully done the soft-mod using RT 15.4 but if I use the VGA modded I can't get any MHz of OC, otherwise if I use the VGA not modded, then I can OC without problem...
I use ForceWare 66.93 and I see that many other people use this driver and OC very well the 6200s, why I can't?? It's beacause the mod isn't really done good as I think??
Mobo is DFI NF4-Ultra-D...
Thanks in advance.
Tom.
please post all videocard and videocard overclocking related topics here in the x3d team section and not in xtreme overclocking, thx :)
Wow, took a few months to get this thing forcibly moved over to the 3D section. LOL!Quote:

If the latter then Dr Jay also reported this as well.

Has anyone bought the Arctic Cooling VGA Cooler, Model "NV silencer 1" Yet?
I bought the nvsilencer 6 to fit on my 6200 PCi Express

Hey eviLRuLeZ does it reduce the noise level like about 50%?
That simply means your unlocked pipe has errors.Quote:

If internal test fails, then your internal pipe is damaged... but maybe you can use it in almost games or benchmarks withtout having any artefacts.
If internal test pass succefully, your pipe can be damaged or not !
I got a 6800 LE, when i reactived first pipe, internal test failed but i didn't see any artefact in 3DMark or games i tested. Then i reactived other pipe and internal test was ok but GT3 in 3DMark05 was all green
All 6200's mods to 6600? How do you softmod them?
