Ya I'm overall happy with the board. I can't blame the board for my memory holding me back. I'm curious as to what sauria is gonna be able to squeeze out of it.

still tweaking but wow the board rocks! 275 x 9 1:1 1100HTT seems stable atm. my cpu sucks a lil bit but i cant complain 2.5 aint terrible.
Great, I have some of that Patriot RAM too -- where did you get your Giga board from?
Any chance to see BIOS screenshots?
Thanks chew. I should have the board tomorrow. Unfortunately, I got some GSkill LA 2x256 today -- but they were damaged in shipping -- the dimms were jarred out of the plastic and touching when they arrived. I wonder how often this happens as they ship in flimsy plastic. They would fail memtest86 at stock 200 MHz DDR 2225 on my nf7-S v2.Quote:

i could take some photos of bios maybe tomorrow. going to bed for now.
Great, thanks Jethro
yah thats normal it lacks voltage but from what i hear might be a good thing seems people who do vdimm mod kill the cpu. the vdimm actually runs at 1.85 when maxxed.Quote:

F8 beta bios where did you find that. You sure thats not um the bios for the k8nsxp?
http://chinese.giga-byte.com/Downloa...k8nn939_f8.exe
thats where i got it the xp is identical board dood so no worries. all i know is my system is smokin fast even at just 252 now! your mileage may vary!
:toast:
What revision is your board Jethro? Did you add arctic silver to the chipset and check the date/specs?
i did not add artic silver to chipset. I thought i should have but now i feel the heatsink and its never warm! so i dunno. I see a revision 1.1 at the bottom corner of the board near the last pci slot.
F8 bios is definatly more friendly and very fast. im getting over 7000mb's per sec @ just 252!
Ok, thanks. I just got my rev 1.1 board too, 3200+, and will report how it does. You seem to like that beta bios F8!?
k8nn 939?

i dled the file from taiwan then i dled the k8nsxp ultra bios and it asked if i wanted to copy over the existing file. so it appears to be same file yet it won't let me install it still. I just renamed the file maybe it will work now how did you flash it jethro did you rename the bios file or.........
Never mind figured it out you used the windows based flash utility. I always flash from dos.
possibly sauria. do these NF3's get hot?
Yeah i use windows based flash :)
257 x 10 1:1 is benchable and seems very stable so far but im sure im near my limits for these timings and cpu. Have to use 1.7vcore tho :( cpu reads 22c.
I don't think that they do that much compared to an old NB but, I just put AS5 on mine. Can anyone decipher the chipset info for me:
nforce 3
039463.1 0403A2
S Taiwan
Ultra
everyone running DIMMS in slots 1&2 Purple slots?
yep
And A2 at the end is revision 2 its the better one.
Ok, thanks -- what is the year week info?
yup got 2 x 512 patriot in the purple :) let me know if you NB heatsink gets warm ok?>
i do get some AGP issues @ high fsb 1:1 thats why im curious
Will do, thanks -- getting her together now
I can't seem to hook up the front USB cables -- got a Lian Li PC-60B usb case with the USB 2 pin connectors -- not socket to plug in.
no CMOS jumper with this board?
looks like you have to "shunt" it yourself lol :) <------as per manual.
Yep, there we go -- I guess I won't need to ever shunt it - eh?
I have it running memtest86. It came with BIOS F5 and I'm running G.SKILL 1G 512X2 F1-3200DSU2-1GBLA on a 3200+ Winchester with retail heatsink and AS5 right now.
Running memtest86 looping test #5 -- chipset cooler is cool with AS5 on it. A bit of a pain to take off the heatsink as mine was sticky with thermal tape crap.
Are you guys only overclocking from windows?
Get that F8 BIOS working chew? I'm wondering what tight timings would be at 250 MHz fsb for TCCD?
I am currently testing GSkill LA 1G and have a set of Patriot 1G PC3200XBL to test too. Jethro seems to be doing better with his Patriot than I am so far with the GSkill LA. I am on F5 BIOS though.
im overclocking from bios. for my TCCD 255 seems to be tops for me with 2.5 3 3 6 1t timings sandra shows 2.5 3 3 3 2 so i dunno but i do know when i change 2t to disabled benchies go up dramatically.
Im still tweaking of course and i may yet do some vmods to the board but for now im enjoying it very much :)
some things i did: went straight to +2 ddr, keep my HTT around 1000 (4x250 right now), disabled Fastwrites and ive already maxed vcore with my poor stepping (fortunately my cooling isnt even breakin a sweat).
Now one thing yah might not like with the F8 bios is the .5 multis are not even there! that kinda bugs me but the perf increase is to much for me to switch back. maybe we'll get a better bios someday but for now if you can deal with no .5's it is rock solid!

No tweaker settings used yet?
I'm good with the old Athlons by a definite A64 newbie. So many things. :)
Yeah thats the bios. Im still unsure about the 255 max but i know im gettin close with current timings. need to learn the MANY timings yet to really max this puppy out but
im a noob with the tweaker myself. Ill prolly sift thru the infamous "tccd" thread and see what some others have found work well and go from there :)
Ok, will look forward to your wisdom :)
yah i overclock with bios only but it seems my 3dmark session the other day has caused my 9800 pro to take a turn for the worse. I underclocked it and it still crashes after playing a game that i ususally play fine. VPU recover keeps kicking in. i even set bios to defauts same thing i KNow its the card the system is rock solid at 250 fsb i ran memtest for 24 hours prime for 48 hours no probs.
Note to self( when gpu core is 350 and memory is 337 running at 460 core 390 memory is bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Oddly enough i can crank the heck out of it still in benchies and it dont artifact or crash....... ive tried drivers bioses I give up time to get a x800 xl and a 6600gt agp. I can stick this 9800 pro in a comp that just does desktop stuff no gaming it never crashes then.
Oh well 25k in 3d01 is nothing to cry about with a 9800 pro at least it went out in a blaze of glory.
I would like to know how well the OCZ DDR Booster works on this board. I don't have the time (or just too lazy) to read all 34 pages of this thread. What is the max setting you can use before the board stops tracking? Thanks.
How can one tell if the RAM is running 1:1 with fsb in the BIOS (I use F5)
mine runs 1:1 when set at 200. Id like to try an ddr booster as well! hmm maybe ill order one of them puppies! :D
Is that an MIT setting or is the MIT setting just the cpu fsb? When I look in Advanced Chipset Features I see 200 MHz current memclock but MaxMemclock only has a few options (that's a limiter?).Quote:

Thanks, that is confusing. Memtest86 show memory speed -- but I wondered if it was actually showing fsb speed? So current memclock here is 1:1?
yup! dont forget to adjust that HTT down as you go up! Im learning as i go to:)

I seem to remember reading that the ddr booster works up to 3.6v on this board from OCZ's site but i also seem to remeber reading that you can only use it with 1 stick of memory? maybe you can run dual channel but i know the board does not like running with 3 sticks of memory maybe the ocz ddr booster causes the board to think theyre is 3 sticks installed.Quote:

My hyper X ddr 333 and mushkin ddr 400 don't like cas 3 in this board.
So how do you guys get 2.85 volts for DIMM like it says in description on front page? I am using F5 BIOS and I can only set it to 2.7 volts. Thanks.
default volts is 2.6v........ if you put it to +.2 its actually 2.8v and the board overvolts somewhat so ur really getting 2.85
Where can I read voltages with my DMM. All the pics in this thread are X's or links not working. Thanks.
i've had ddr booster for a long time now... with my 2 sticks of adata vitests pc4000 (presumably hynix D43)...
i'm trying to tweak it up to reach 100% stability @ 270 2.5-3-3-6 1T... it's mostly bench stable... but it's not 100%, and it's getting annoying...
using k8nsu-939 F4 board dimm slot arrangement... too close to each other... u can't put 2 sticks of ram in slot 1 & 2 if u want the booster in it too... because even in slot 4... the twister knob overlaps into slot 2!!!... so what ya gotta do is put the booster in slot 2, and then move ur ram to slot 3 & 4. then it works fine =)...
as for vdimm.. the first time i used the booster i thought it wasn't working, cos u have to twist the dial past a certain point for it tstart working, so i was rotating it heaps... lol, suddenly the value shot up to 3.8volts for abit, and i was like WAH 1?!?!?... lol... so took it down to 3.1...
it seems fine up to 3.8 i guess... but i don't have ram that can withstand that so i haven't yet tried that for like even a minute or so... i've tried as high as 3.5 for 5 minutes, seemed fine...
as for these bios's... F4 lets me hit 320 on the hTT @ 3x (2x doesn't help). F5 only lets me get to ~266. i'mi talking about 1T here...
i picked up 2 sticks of apacer TCCD DDR500 512mb... with 1T they're really bad
they perform best at around 2.8-2.85v, reach only about 242-245 2.5-3-3-6 1T... but with 2T enabled, it can do up to 285-290 or so with 3-4-4-8!... stil... that's not quite nice, and not better than my adata... so i will try it on another board, since i don't think GB boards are too good with TCCD in general (my xms3200XL from a long time ago was even worse).
EDIT: please watch your language

270 2.5-3-3-6 1T I can run this right now -- passes memtest86 with GSkill 1 G LA
No RAID available off nf3 SATA?
should be able to it has a raid driver and software....... However silicon images is a far better raid chip and the nvidia sata ports are in a terrible location.Quote:

Well, I got my DDR Booster today and it worked fine up to 3.7v. The problem is the mobo, I have KHX 3000 BH-5 and the SPD is pc2700. The mobo is like the MSI so far as it will not let me set the DDR to 200. Even if I try, it keeps the divider at 166. I wish I had kept my KHX 3200 right now but the KHX 3000 actually OCed better. Now I am screwed, the booster is worthless to an extent. The board or the CPU doesn't like anything over 285, so with the divider I am only hitting 225MHz with the RAM and that isn't very stable, even with the multi at 8. It's gotta be the mem controller on the cpu. IF I could set the RAM to 200, I'd be good.
OOOhhhh, it just struck me as I am typing this, I can use A64 tweaker to set the RAM to 200 like on the MSI boards (I hope). Be back with some results.
Okay, of course it worked. Running Prime95 now at these settings to test for stability and do a little burn in on the RAM. We'll see what I can pump out of this rig.

Still strong after 4 hours of Prime.
I think I will be happier with my TCCD once it gets here. guys at Monarch haven't even shipped it yet and no e-mail saying it's back ordered or anything. I paid for 2 day FedEx and it has been since Wednesday I ordered it and it hasn't even shipped yet. I had a terrible experience with them quite a while ago with a Ti500 I ordered and they were pains in the a$$ about getting me taken care of, took three weeks just for them to agree to RMA the thing even though it was DOA. They kept wanting to transfer me to tech support. After all that I sent it back for a refund and they charged me 15% restock fee. I told them it was BS, I had to order antoher card elsewhere because I was tired of waiting. I never ordered from them until recently, when I got my Winny, now the third order ever from them and they are Effing it up again.

gonna try this out hope it likes my mobo. Since I plan on keeping it and since nf4 seems to like bh5 I'm gonna need some memory anyway since i plan on running my bh5 chips in nf4.

I have a strange problem here.
Motherboard: Gigabyte K8NS Ultra 939
Mem: 2 x 256 MB PC3500 Plat. Ltd. Edtion BH-5.
Everything works great on 2.6v, but when I set vdimm to 2.8v everything becomes unstable even on stock speed, tried bios F4 and F5.
Anyone else had this problem ?
I just built and tested some and now I have problems at stock speed:
My setup:
Gigabyte K8NS-Ultra 1.1
Winchester 3200+
2 x 74G Raptors on NVidia ports 1,2 (near video card)
WD 300 G 30000JB on IDE1
DVD+/-RW 16x|NEC ND-3520A Master, Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A Slave
Antec True Control 550W
BFG Geforce 6800 Ultra OC (needs two power connectors)
All accessory slots hooked up.
1G GSkill LA
I have the F5 BIOS and was prime stable (250 MHz bus 2.5-3-3-7) until I sseemed to have some driver conflicts now -- Prime fails at Optimized defaults.
Upgrade the BIOS to F7 or F8?
Try the Sil ports for the Raptors?
Bigger PSU?
Epox Board?
Any tips appreciated. :)
Thanks
Maybe my "new" instability issue? I will try the nforce 5.10's and the other drivers from Win update site. Also moving the Raptors to the Sil.Quote:

I'm thinking of volt modding the vdimm with the single wire trick. No adjuster just a wire with no mod to psu should give me 2.9 to 3.0 vdimm which should be safe enough not to kill memory controller on the a64.
Ok, thanks -- I'm wondering if my Antec True Control 550W is marginal for this setup with that BFG Geforce Ultra OC Video card? Sandra voltage shows =5V low but I don't trust the software.

Hey spooky how much juice you gonna pump thru the TCCD? My sticks respond well to more voltage i just dunno how much is to much. My ddr booster should be here i a couple days!
also anyone here going to do the vcore mod? even at 1.7v my cpu doesnt go over 22c so im curious if 1.8v would be worth trying.
psu mod is gonna have to wait till tommorow but the board is running great with the mod as of right now. I'm hoping to get 3.3 vdimm.
Thanks, earlier in this thread it says the upper 2 nforce ones are locked -- but chew seems to run high on the sil just fine!?Quote:

Cool, I just got a 9NDA3J too -- haven't built it yet -- I hope it is less fussy than this board?
ok even with the psu mod with 3.3v in set to 3.9 and vdimm reading 3.5 i could only do 1 stick of memory stable at 250 fsb. So after doing this i blame the board for holding me back from using 2 dimms in dualchannel at 250 however my memories max is 250 also.
Just flashed to the F8 Bios and we'll see if I get any stability? Also going to build a 9NDA3J
I dont see these "quirks"? I havent figured out 300FSB yet but 250 1:1 was rather easy.
Chew what ram timings are you attempting to get 250 with? Sauria is your setup really that unstable?
jes curuious, cuz the board has been a smooth clocker for me. Im sure theres faster but its far from slow or unstable here.
Good to hear that Jethro - I'm wondering if you have a late model nf3 ultra chip -- Mine is old.
