yea, a crumncher out of work= no way to pay the elctric bills=no more crunching 24/7.
okydoke gothe community 2x installer up and running on there. is ther any way to see my individual progess?
It's worth the risk. I have serious incoming threats. I need more POWA!!! :CTF: :shoot: :wierd:Quote:

what exactly do i need to download and setup for XS team - and where can i browse my stats etc?
cheers
u can browse your stats right here:http://stats.free-dc.org/new/teamsta...=XtremeSystems. Just look for your name. As far as setting it up, it looks like u got it. If it slows down your comp, download hellheim's program
What is the latest u can upload and stats.freedc still recognizes it??
I think it's 11:30 CST...EST...something like that.
jjcom
hum i didnt get it yet....
i will add a new dual amd cruncher soon.
2 instances.
i want to have only _one_ node (instead of 2 for 2 clients) for 2 instances
hope you guys understand :D
thanks for helpin me :)
OK, with dspy, do I have to copy the nodeStatistics.xml & taskState.xml files on another comp to watch them, or how can I watch each of my nodes on one comp. I hope u understand my question.
Just point dspy to the the folder d2ol is in on each computer (they have to be networked and the d2ol folder has to be shared for this to work)Quote:

Hi! I have problems formulating this question correct.. erm.. When running this program twice, should I download two different so I get two different nodes? Or simply duplicate the folder of one install? I did the last thing.. the programs run twice.. it looks like they are working on the same candidates.. they have the same node number so the stats site say I have only one node.. am I doing it right or should I download two different?
Oh yeah and I just joined the team :)
It sounds like u copied the folder, right? I think that should work. Something u could do if u want instead would have been download the installer twice, save one to C:/Program Files/Sengent d2ol & C:/Program Files/Sengent d2ol2, then register both, and copy the node from one install to the other. I think the way u have it now may work though, so dont do what I said unless someone who knows more posts here.
With two different installs they will have different work to do afaik.. now they both are working on the same candidates! This is not good, right? I left it like that over the night now.. but I think I will download another one instead.
Thanks :)
Edit: Okey I now have two different node programs processing different work! Hope this works :D
Edit2: 16 minutes average docking time is that ok when running two nodes on the rig in sig with cpu clocked to 3,75?
Also.. can someone show some results of all this "work"? Are we really doing anything useful? The sites haven't updated since early 2004, and no information is given whatsoever in their forums..
Edit3: Nah.. this is pointless. I've been running this thing constantly for 3 days now, but now quitting. This project is abandoned by the starters a year ago.. people are just evaluating the same candidates over and over. The only reason people still do this is either by habit or to contribute to and be part of a team. I'm out.
None of teh threads leapt out at me on how to set up new X2 when I'm satisfied w/speed and stability.
1. Do I use the 2 CPU installer here?
and change the node.prps to mine in both dirs?
2. Does it set CPU affinity for both and how / where does it do it.
Thanks MikeE :toast:
That install I believe is for people with rigs that can processs two threads at the same time so that should work. I believe it gets your node.prp file set up for you, unless you would rather use another file, then you can do that as well.Quote:

Another way to do this would be to use the offical installer, and install it twice. then make one folder called D2OL and the other D2OL2 or something along those lines.

ok im real new to this, first time ever trying ...i only have 1 machine, but i wanna help. so i downloaded and installed the client ...and it looks like this:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...id=35455&stc=1
so what do i do now, sorry if its been asked a million times ...
and what the difference between D2OL and F@H (stanford folding team)?...
OK i joined XS team ....is this me all set up then? :) or is there something else i have to do.

okay so now im folding.. i have it minimized ot the taskbar CPU is 100% all the time
anything else i should do? im reading the tweak guid ATM.
right click on the tray icon, click properties, disable launch main windows on start-up and enable animations, and set the quene size to 2000. Thats about it. And welcome to the team (this is for both bullet2urbrain & a5h).
IF I download it can i remove it. one i have installed it and can my pc handle it my specs are in my sig.
yes to both questions. If you don't want the program anymore, go to Programs>D2OL>Uninstall D2OL. Your rig will be able to handel D2Ol fine :)
jjcom
I don't believe so, there might be the directory left in Programfiles with your node file and a few others settings. (which you could delete) If you were to decide to uninstall D2OL.
Now if you decide to continue to run, then every 6 hours (or if you click on manual update) it will upload all the work you've done so far and download more work. The other sticky's in this section talk about this more
jjcom
who can tell me a way to update the "cands" i have without being connected to the internet.. i have some crunching power than i can use but i dont have a way to hook them up to the intarweb. cuz i would be putting them under my bed... and let them cruch 24/7 all day and night from now till whenever then take and upload the massive amount..i figure about 65 a day from each.. and i stand to get ~3.. if possible.
but i need to know if there is a file saved on the HDD every 6 hrs with the amount of cands crunched?
Thanks... also good to be back @ Max capacity.
Maybe this question was posted before, but I don't want to search trough all 14 pages...
My question is:
How will an old P3 500 perform? I was thinking of letting it run 24/7, as my 820D is now doing that. I just want to lower the energy bills... If it's no use adding this one, I might not be running 24/7 all the time any more...
EDIT:
My account doesn't calculate the average time taken for a candidate. Now that is'nt such a problem, but is there anything to fix here?
You could set them up to download 2000 cands each and then dump them when they are all crunched. there is probably a file or folder where they are stored that you could transfer to a connected machine.... not really sure someone should knowQuote:

Ok, unofrtunately, I rebooted my rig by mistake and now the little icon that was in the taskbar has dissapeared. I remember seeing somewhere that you had to stop cetain services an then restart them, but I can't remember the list.
Oh, also, I'm not sure if there's supposed to be two instances of the taksbar icon running, I guess that's because of me installing the 2x version, seeing that I have a HT Proccessor.
Nope, the taskbar icons dissapear after you rebooted your rig.
Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and check if the processes, which I told you about, are running.
You're running 2 instances, so there should be 2x Dockwin.exe, 2x srvany.exe and 2x D2OL.exe in the processes.
Yea, I've killed them and now gone to the folders (D2OL1/2) loaded up the D2OL.exe files from both. But my problem remains, how do I tpye in the information for my proxy?Quote:

One method is to start your rig in "Safe mode", go to the D²OL folder and start it up manually... it will appear in the taskbar so you can change settings. Reboot and it will start as a service again with the changed settings.Quote:

Thanks Duc!
Alright, not really a question, more of a request.....
I think it would be a cool thing if we had a thread with info regarding how much to expect from a system/processor with a simple approximation equation to estimate how much your rig can produce....for instance, my 2.65GHz X2 does 300 or so if dedicated. So one entry could be that a Toledo X2 does ~115Cands per GHz.
Just an idea as I really have ZERO clue how well my 2.4 Celly will do (I would know, but it's only been on for 4 hours now and it's 800Miles from me) and I feel other n00bs at this would also like some info like this so they know what to expect.
Can't someone make a new thread of all output/cpu if dedicated? Saves a lot of questions, I think...

Many of us have seen the diagrams that show what is necessary to go thru a complete memory access.
i.e. [CAS]+[RAS-to-CAS Delay]+[Act-to-Precharge Delay]+etc. http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=873
My thinking is that the optimal PCXXXX speed number for a given memory stick, is just a matter of adding the appropriate timings a given memory stick is capable of, in terms of nanoseconds to complete the memory cycle, and then providing a memory clock rate, like 400 or 500 million ticks per second, which provides the proper total time for memory to complete its memory cycle. Since some sticks are shipped untested, we have to do the test ourselves. But, once the actual memory subtimings are known, the PCXXXX number should be a function of these?
Anyone have a formula, which if given the timings memory is capable (nanoseconds for each stage in the memory cycle), would "tell" the BIOS what the optimal number of ticks per cycle the memory should "see"?
If there were such a formula, that would focus on how the memory is built (gate delay times), rather than running "test programs", whether synthetic or real, then setting up memory paramaters would be easier.
I know that I am missing something here.
So much discussion on tight timings at PC3200 versus looser timings at higher PCXXXX. Basically if you know the absolute time that a memory requires for CAS, RAS-to-CAS Delay, etc, and add these up, you know how long memory is going to need to complete each random access. Then you could just run memory at a clock rate that provides this time??
Anyone understand, at the gate level, what this memory timings and PCXXXX is about? Something must be going on, that does not allow an easy optimal setting for the rate memory should be clocked at, by some "appropriate arithmetic" on the CAS, RAS-to-CAS, etc timings?
I have read a lot about looser timings at faster memory clock rates. If you are going to provide memory with more "ticks", but then set "looser timings by setting say CAS=2.5 or CAS=3 or higher, does that not bring you back to the same place you began? :) You are just counting more of the albeit faster memory clock ticks. The actual wall time of when the next memory sub-event occurs is the same!
Basically, is not adjusting timings and adjusting the rate memory is being clocked at, two ways of doing exactly the same thing?
Occams Razor, says why not one? Either a facility for changing the memory timing numbers (i.e the number of ticks a memory stick counts for the CAS stage, etc.) OR a facilitly for changing the number of ticks per second the memory controller provides to the memory stick? NOT BOTH!!
Note: In the above, when I say the CAS,RAS-to CAS, etc timings I know these are usually given in terms of clock ticks, but I am using the term timings in some of the above to mean the absolute time, I guess in nanoseconds, that each memory sub-function requires, to be stable.
Sorry for wasting everyone's time here, if this does not make any sense. :)
^^^^^ you sure you have the right forum??? Does this have something to do with the D2Ol team?
Thanks for pointing this out.Quote:

My mistake! Frankly I did NOT even know what the "D2OL" acronym was, and was too lazy to do the proper diligent research. I am so BAD/DUMB. Well maybe just perfectly average dumbness :). Anyway I intended for the above post to be a general question about maximizing the performance of my AsROCK 939dualsata2 motherboard, and AMD 939 motherboards in general. Paradoxically, I see that some D2OL enthusiast do try to use D2OL code as a measurement of how fast their motherboards are performing.
I have read elsewhere that modern Graphic processors with so many pipes, both Nvidia and ATI, can run algorithms many times faster than the AMD and Intel processors. It can be difficult to find documentation on how to use the facilities inside these graphic processors for general computing use. That's commercialism at its worst. But it has been done, and results in several magnitudes of improved perfomance.
D2OL sounds pretty amazing. To me, even undoable. Imaging trying to succcessfully automate the process of designing a drug, while desinging an alogorithm for the automatic posting to the proper thread, based on keyword content has yet(?) to be accomplised. I was thinking of automated forum software where all "threads" would be dynamic. There would be no static threads per say. "Threads" would be created as you keyed in key words, in real time. Yes, it could be argued that in part of the SEARCH facility, already in place. But that does not quite work to eliminate the neeed for static threads, and does not create a thread, or rather incrementally create a thread of decreasing size as keywords are selected. Now I did it again ... this probably does NOT belong here.
Anway, back to reality. Have any real drugs come out of D2OL at a rate that that cannot be explained as more than a random success rate?
BTW, when I click on this Forum "Save Changes" button, after an edit, my processor goes to 50% for perhaps 30 seconds or a minute or more, during which time there is the "hour glass". This is XP-PRO SP2 on a well maintained DEll 400SC, P2.8 GHz, 1GB Ram. What algorithm could possibly be taking that time? My whole computer becomes barely useable until the Save Changes completes. Then everything return to normal which is near 0 CPU utilization. I hate to thing that posting here about D2OL ironically wastes so many CPU cycles. Anyone else experience that?
Rod

AXP-M are very good at crunching and you will need 256mb per computer.
just to let you know timings and bandwidth do almost nothing for D2OL so get some nice value RAM. Production is 99% about your CPU Mhz's
an Axp @ 2500mhz will do about 120-150 per day
If u have a tweaked version of Win2k, u may be able to get away with 128mb ram.
If you want the rig to be used for other task (Like day to day use) you will have better luck with 512MB. You don't need this for every computer... just the one you intend to use for your "main" rig.
I don´t want to use a harddrive just 256mb flash drives (pendrives). Can I run D2OL in a light linux distribution right?
You can! There is a linux version of the client. Personally I don't know much about Linux... but if you need help I'm sure we can get it for you.Quote:

Hope to see you in the stats!
I feel odd asking this, but is there any way to create like a bat file or something to upload results from a comp with Rod's installer??
.bat file... no :(
Here is why. The only thing you can do is kill the service. That will stop the D2OL.exe process... but not the Dockwin.exe or grinwin.exe that D2OL.exe spawns. The Dockwin.exe will keep running until it finishes working on the current conformer... it will then stop.
If you used a bat file to just restart the service; D2OL.exe will stop and start while Dockwin.exe is still running. Sometimes this isn't a problem... D2OL.exe will sense that Dockwin is still running and wait to spawn gridwin.exe once Dockwin.exe stops. BUT on occasion it will attempt to dock a new cand. This will cause it to sense a failure and it will automatically kick the cand out as corrupt and go onto the next cand and the same thing will happen over and over until Dockwin.exe finally finishes. Then it will pickup as normal. But not before it trashes 300+ cands.
In short... it's not recommended.
If you want to force an upload there are 2 ways you can safely do so.
First you can stop the XS_D2OL service(s) then go and kill any Dockwin.exe or Gridwin.exe you might see in the task manager. You can then restart the service(s) and it will upload.
Second you can just reboot the PC.
Keep in mind that both of these methods will force you to start over on the current cand. So if you are working on Conformer #19 and kill Dockwin.exe, it will have to start over on 1.
If all this ^^^^ didn't answer your question you are beyond help :D
No, that answered my question. What about the regular sengent version. There has to be a way for that one, right??
Yes because it runs in the taskbar. You can jusr right click on the icon and go to "status" hit manual upload from there.Quote:

Yes those are total, next to it you will see weekly top users and daily top users.
These are the XS stats

When you look at the status screen.... are any of the task failing?
When you check your CPU utilization in the task manager, does it show 100%?
Of course 100% i run D2OL with normal priority instead low.
Nothing goes wrong..
When you look at the agent window (The fancy java GUI) Can you see if it has any task queued (Task assigned and task downloaded)??? In the upper right... does it say "Docking candidate", and "Computing Docking Energy for Conformer #x"??
Yes, there all OK.
yestarday i turn off firewall too, but it doesn't help.
when do my cadidates upload? after its compleated the 200 assigned tasks?

they upload every six hours or so. Or when you go into the status and click manual uplaod.Quote:

I am not sure how they compare. But you may be able to give us some insight on the matter.
And just to help out with a little advice. You want to set your queue size to 2000. This will help keep you in work in case their server goes down over a weekend or the like.
Rod, anyone,
I've just installed 2 x nodes using the EZ installer.
Being the tool that I am I forgot to write down the numbers of the nodes!
Please someone tell me that there is an easy way to find them out?!
open up the clients.... the node id's are on the top right ;)
I tried that sort of thing already, from what i can see the two potential files for launching the clients would be D2OL.exe or Launch D2OL Agent.exe. Double clicking either of these appears to do nothing.Quote:

Maybe if I kill the processes first and then try to run Launch D2OL Agent.exe?
that works, or you can go to your page at d2ol.com and click on the "My Nodes" link along the top. Your nodes will their numbers next to them on the list.
Haha! You underestimate my incompitence! I haven't even got as far as registering the nodes yet! I tried to register and then realised that the registration process asks me for the node ids!Quote:

Started things again and entered my email address again, got 2 new node IDs. Thought I haad it but no! Again it tells me it can't find my nodes.
So I figured it maybe just didn't know I was there yet - I manually updated it so that both nodes uploaded a task result. Still nothing. A node search tells me that it's not there.

Now I think I might just leave myself unassigned to a team and wait till New Years time to assign them all to XS!
Thanks for trying to help guys, most appreciated :toast:
great to hear that you got it all figured out there. I was about to offer to send you one of my node.prp :D

Question:
Just started D2OL on a dual Opteron 280. I'm running four processes, each on one core. They max out all my processors but my other applications are running with a little glitch (no biggie here). I'm just concerned about a thing... I hate to lose a 1400 bucks processor or both for being maxed out 24/7. How bad will it be for the lifespan of a processor? How likely is it for them to crap out?
http://www.insanelabs.com/images/maxedout.jpg
i havn't heard of any processors dieing because of it. just make sure they are properly cooled and they should be fine.
i think you need to have maybe helheim's xtremewatchdog or d2oldaddy installed also. i keep hearing everyone else say xtremewatchdog works better as a service than d2oldaddy.
nice system btw :)
The reason hellheim's program works better than d2ol daddy is because hellheims was built to run as a service, where as d2ol daddy is a stand alone program. As far as how long the cpu will last, as long as it is properly cooled (lower than 60c) and u arent pumping insane amounts of voltage (>1.7) you should be fine. Thank you for running d2ol. How much does the opteron rig pump out a day?
No worries QettoE.....those chips are designed to run at full blast in a hotter environment than what you're in I'm sure, AMD nor Intel would make a chip that couldn't run at full speed 24/7. And if you want to make sure your other apps get precedent....restart your system, it'll restart with the D2OL apps as a service forced at the lowest priority.
Good question, you might be able to tell me what I'm doing here as well since I can't make any sense of it yet (been pretty damn busy to look it up, and I'm lazy too!).Quote:

A few more things... I'm running the services through FireDaemon because my registry wasn't patched properly for some reason (2k3 x64 maybe), but either way they max out. I'm also running D2OLDaddy as a service to watch over my processes.
This is a 1U rackmount server colocated at Level(3) data center, but it's not as cool as other places that I've been in. This barebone has six 15000RPM fans blowing directly at two passive heatsinks but I have no way of knowing the exact temperature because Tyan doesn't come with a tool to do such thing. Maybe I can find a software to monitor them later on.
Q.
U can give motherboard monitor a try, or speedfan to check the temps. There are 4 different nodes, right?? So u should be doing (4*88=352) 352 daily if that was the full day. What do they run stock??
