Ok, First of all, I want to appologise to everyone who feels that I crossed the line. I probably did.
But most of those people missed my intentions I guess :(
I just wanted to be protective for the noobs and for bigtoe himself. I just don't want that he could get into some legal trouble by some noob who didn't know the harm such a thing could cause.
so I realy didn't want to sound like the bad guy :( .
I had very bad exams in January, and I was a bit depressed during the year. So I didn't do much during the year. About a week or 7 ago, I met my new girlfriend. I took myself together and I studied for 6 weeks with an avarage of 3-4hrs of sleep a day. My new girlfriend was a motivation for me, to do it as good as possible. (I want to be there for her, when she needs me. She suffers from borderline.) So I have pushed myself too far during the exams. When I came home monday, I sat myself down in a corner of my room and started crying like a baby. So I was (and still partly am) mentally, physically and emotional exausthed.
That's probably the reason why I couldn't get a grip of myself.
But it was all with good intentions.
I'm very sorry if I have hurt some people's feelings! :(
I realy want to help as much as possible. I will grab all my datasheets together and read read read, ...

sdram chips store there bit's into capacitors. The mosfets used are there to store it in the right capacitor.
I'm still to tired to expain the whole thing. but look at this datasheet if you want. (please do so before you answer to this post.)

You need not worry about OCZ and bigtoe. Our lawyers have advised us on the subject. We have some excellent people on staff that have looked into all of the tech already. We are just double checking and testing, because that's what we do.

The main questions to me are still
1) Which AMD64 motherboards track VTT without a mod?
2) Testing on those which do and those which don't does the OCZ booster eventually pop the cpu, and at what voltage?
Could be a fun time for the OCZ guys doing the testing :) and would reduce AMD64 end user issues.

I boils down to what A64 boards use the Winbond controller IC as to what boards track VTT correctly.I have the AOpen AK89Max here which uses the Winbond IC and as such VTT is miles off.
Regards testing A64 and intentially popping them to see what voltage the go at on each board...I think not. You have to repect that we will push quite a bit but we won't intentially kill cpu's. It is no different then asking us to test every modules to destruction just to see what voltage they can take...we won't do that either.
What we will do is test to what we regard a reasonably safe limit and publish results accordingly. I have already maxed EB at a lower voltage than what i need using vdimm thru bios so this proves to me you may not even need to apply 3.6v etc as the dimms clock a lot better with less volts.

There is one thing that I haven't seen mentioned and I Have a question. When we run the frequency up on a switch, mosfet or otherwise the speed at which it will recognize a 1 or a 0 does not change therefore the decay rate or the rise time will determine the detection point of a bit, SO once we reach a certian speed the duration is insufficient for the swich to detect a 1 so we raise the voltage above this point. It would be nice if we had a device that would see these triangle wave outputs and correct for it. You think this would be possiable? And if it is what parameters would be nessassary to do so? It seems that we are shooting in the dark here on voltages and their effects, and my O scope wont do that high a freq. But if I could get that freq to trig would that make it simple to adj?
I am trying to quantify what happens when we OC memory or for that mater any swich...

I read that bigtoe statement twice as well. Thing I see is he says the winbond controller IC vrs. the winbond IC. Either they are different things or the only other interpretation is winbond doesnt work, something else might.

well my memory's covered under warrenty up to 3.0vdimm. i can afford to scrap out a motherboard tho. memory/cpu/vga cards are all thats really expensive anymore. Unless you guy one of those nf3 250-939 boards at $250 bucks:smileysex

We know A64 users will have issues seeing the readout...as far as i know we are doing a mirror image version for these boards but its coming later.

If you really wanted to you could unsolder the display and move it to the top of the module (flat across so it doesnt interfere with other dimm slots) and run wires to it yourself... :D
On a side note, i'm in costco on a laptop right now.. lol.
yea thats part of the reason i was asking. But i think what i'll do is just get one of those little mirrors that swivel on the end of a handle and check it that way.

Glad to see it wasn't too late to change the molex connectors to 90 degrees. Should help eliminate a lot of clearance issues.

You nailed it buddy. The DDR Booster Diagnostic Device is for "diagnosing" RAM voltages. ;)
i imagine you could run the ddr booster with just one stick of ram installed in the machine so you would be able to dial it in for the desired voltages then move it to a diffrent dimm slot and install the remainder of your ram. As long as you dont giggle the pot it will keep its setting? or would that be dangerous? This would give us a64 guys the ability to grab up the one out of the first batch and make it useable.
Say in s939/940 boards install one stick in dimm 1 with the ddr booster in dimm 4 make'n it easily readable and once you get it all set just set your 2nd stick back in dimm3 and your off and running.

Just apply this rule I think... if the board you are using tracks Vtt automatically it will work perfectly. If not, you will be limited to the amount you can pump through your mem before a Vtt mod becomes necessary.Quote:

The NF2 Miester (me) is getting 2 of the full production units in teh next few days for testing on the DFI NFII B, Ultra Infinity and ABit NF7-S. It may take until Tuesday or Wednesday for some results, but I am all cranked up for this! The gang at the OCZ facility is all wild about socket 939 and DDR2 testing and all. They have done some NF2 testing, but I will take charge. :)
I'll be testing on my Chaintec VNF3-250 to see if I can hit over my 251mhz I have now with 2 sticks of OCZ 3700 EB at 2.9v, 3-2-2-10 timings.
Oh yes, the only ones that worry about colors these days ARE the Nancy boys. I think it was just an attempt to look cool. Maybe the are UV sensitive. OOOH!!

I don't think there wil be much to worry about in backfeeding voltage you will be reverse biasing the diodes feeding power to the memory and they will swich off when the voltage across them reaches their threshold. Even if ti goes directly to a vreg chip it too will attempt to lower the voltage shut off. Basically disconnecting from the original supply.Quote:

All us electrical engineers wish it would be as simple as voltage higher than Vref = 1, and that's all there's to it ;)
AndyOCZ, bigtoe: important thing I should mention about nForce2 - the A1 steppings of the NB only go up to 180-190fsb/mem. Even the A2 typically top off just above 210-220fsb/mem. Depending on the board design, most typically CAN do ~240fsb, but just can't hold mem at that speed in sync 1:1 mode, hence the requirement for Vdd mod to bring NB up to 1.8-1.9V to alleviate problem.
Since you guys are mentioning that this device would raise the mem ctrl voltage on A64, would that also be the case with the nForce2? ('cause memory could be cranked up at 3.9 and be able to do 280, but if mem ctrl can't handle it, then you wont be able to do it in sync mode.. and even async will not be as high)
well, I def know that the Ultra Infinity can handle 3.6-3.7 volts on the RAM ... seen those 290MHz FSB pics??? goto amdforums.com and search :)

Hi, bigtoe is away in Belgium doing an OCZ product demonstration. I think he just went there to hear some music at the Banana Peel in Brussels - Jetta myself. ;)
These are all good points you make. As I have stated before we have some good EE types at OCZ in development, so they have thought this out very well. Testing is still in progress and a list of the boards and platforms we know to work well will be listed.
We still have some time to test before release and this testing is not for development, but for compatabilty.
I'm going to be in Belgium next week as well. ;)
I would love to see some actual test results, and, like others, test results on an A64 platform. NF2 will be interesting as well, though.
Hang tight. First hand testing by bigtoe and I with production units is the only way we can give you real world results.
I think i'll be picking one of these up after my recent NF7-S killing.

I have the UI an NFIIB. The NFIIB was an early review board and rocks, the UI is almost new and is pretty lame. I will test both. I am interested in seeing if th UI will become a wonder board with the DDR Booster.

BTW, I read the HW monitor chip white papers and it said to connect the Vdimm directly to the chip (which I am sure the engineers did), in MBM with 3.3 Vdimm setting, my Vdimm jumps from 3.06 to 3.26 ... so ... yea ...
he means Vref. vref should always be exactly 50% of vdimm.
the ocz tool only raises vdimm, but if the board doesnt raise vref accordingly theres almost no improvement.
so you want a board that keeps track of vtt (vref) so vref raises together with vdimm and lets you push your memory higher.
How do we figure out if our board does that? o_O
so, if our boards track vref, I understand it's good, but how exactly is it good? what does it allows us to do?
the OCZ "diagnostic tool" supplies VDIMM AND VREF if I remember correctly.
Vref is meant to be the same level as Vtt, and they are both meant to be HALF OF VDIMM for the RAM to function properly.
Vtt is not controlled by OCZ's tool because it's the terminating voltage ON THE MOTHERBOARD ITSELF, so we have to rely on the motherboard to keep Vtt at half of VDimm when we raise VDimm via this tool. It depends on how the manufacturer designed the board... for nForce DFI's do track Vtt (good) but NF7's most likely won't (not so good)... I don't know about AN7's.
vdimm, vddq, vref, vtt, vbt.. so many to remember, lol.

nf7 is questionable....... some have done vdimm=3.3 and said it tracked.. others say it didnt.. I wonder if the tracking on the nf7 could have to do with the "second vdd mosfet" being installed or not (some have it some dont).
after "remove-resistor" vdimm mod, vref tracks but vtt do not... so vtt mod was needed...
after "vdimm=vio" mod, vref tracks exactly but vtt is kinda off... when vdimm is set to 3.60v, vref shows 1.80v but vtt is 1.87v.
so i did "vref=vtt" md and now it's even more wierd coz both, vref and vtt are at 1.88v...
unfortunately, after "vdimm=vio" mod, vtt fluctuates a bit under heavy load...
so if this device supplies vdimm and vref the same way as "vdimm=vref" mod then it might me necessary to do "vref=vtt" mod to make them equal...

nobody knows because nobody has done any xtreme mods on it

are you guys getting these readings (vtt, etc) with a dmm or are these mobos just special in they display these voltages?
dmm, or even just by observing the overclocking results after vDimm mod with sticks with known performance. No boards show vtt AFAIK.Quote:

To measure vtt you just need to do some voltage readings in the right spots on your mobo, but you need a vdimm mod before so you can check if the vtt tracks it all the way up or not.
When will my RAM sticks have molex connectors? ;) Now that would be easy :P
