I found a couple of "bugs" in bios.
- Changing CPU multplier always enables EIST,
- Having all unneeded onboard devices disabled for benching, loading my daily 24/7 profile in OC Profiles makes the systems hangs,
-The board seems to have a mind of it's own about choosing first boot device,
- Full screen logo enables whenever it feels like it even though i always have it disabled.
All minor flaws, i had with both bios 0078 and 0903.
Beside that i really like the board.
No i mean 0903, downloaded from official Asus site:
http://support.asus.com/Download.asp...+GENE&p=1&s=39
I had it with bios 0903, then flashed to bios 0078 and experienced the same. Doesn't bother me that much but it would be better if those "bugs" weren't there. Especially the lockup after changing profiles is annoying and takes a shutdown and bios reset to recover. Going from my daily settings to my SuperPi 32M profile works fine, switching back makes it lock up everytime, the second i hit the yes button.
thanks friend Fernando kindly did it for me i will try soon
btw to all my friends and ppl i know visit this thread :)

You sure it's 1001 Sergio? I just downloaded 1101 from the official Asus site, still a bit reluctant to flash it. Do you think it's worth it?
He meant 1101, like he said few posts back.
It's working just as good as previous, but so much quicker boot, thanks to some great new features.
Sergio, is it working good for you too?
So f.u.c.k.i... great andres! thanks by the links
anyone knows why with this bios new ( 1101 ) the system come fine to 4,9 Ghz and more beyond need much ,much vcore to hit 5 ghz! ,anyone any idea? for example 4.9 Ghz 1.48 PRIME & OCCT etc stable ( 3570k ) and for 5.0 ghz give me 1.56 Vcore !!!!!! When before just run with ...1.48 vcore...I don't understand...any help?
same 3570 k here costa rica batch 3214C618
Just the normal one. I don't have a raid array, i'm running a single Vertex 3 for my OS.
Hi guys I just bought a gene and my MB is not working as it should. It came with bios 813 and I ended up updating to 1101 so it aint a bios related problem.
I think something is really wrong with the voltage regulation and I'm also afraid that it will endup killing my cpu... So at default it will boot up to windows but randomly shutdown, even with 0 load, out of the blue, and boot up again... temp are at low 30s so it's all good. Though voltages are not, while watching them with cpu-z they will.jump up as high as 1.36v which is just stupid for default settings... choosing 1.36v for my usual overclock will endup having the board feeding over 1.5v on bios... and it will shutdown just after windows logo.
M4E was a smooth experience but sadly I told myself I wasnt gonna buy asus anymore after all the troubles I had with their :banana::banana::banana:ty rma... seems I ended up.doing another mistake... my previous asrock wasnt thr best board in the world but not as :banana::banana::banana:ty as this
Got 0904 bios and downloaded 1101 that was posted on a earlier side, and AI Suite sad 0904 - 1101 and i flashed. Now after reboot it still says iīm on 0904. Strange thing
What does your bios itself say? Maybe flash went wrong and you're still running the old bios? CPU-Z says 1101 for mine
Bios says 0904 and i was using this bios BIOS 1101 with modded IntelŪ RAID ROM 11.5.0.1414 done by stasio big thanks to him !!! Maybe i should try from Asus site instead
EDIT: Working now with the one from Asus website.
Yea i see, downloaded stasios bios again and flashed. No RAID driver is updated, have to do it manually then. Itīs strange when itīs working for you :)
Problem is that I am using the asus site 1101...
im lost mate, im talking about the BIOS to flash it to 1101 original and certified asus wich is here
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...GENE/#download
then update to latest AI SUITE II wich is also there
on my DVD it came with latest version of AI SUITE II
tell me how it went
cheers
Sergio
hersounds
you were stable at X vcore and with new BIOS you need a bump ? or you never been on 5GHz ?
my experience using offset vcore is that i had to give a notch of vcore on this 1101 to be solid at 5GHz again, i was getting freeze on BF3 and MOH games, and i play both hard with all ultra at native 2560x1440 and i spent hours seeing if was the timmings on mem, the VGA, but then i loose timmings happened the same, so it was vcore
im happy now i played for hours and all stable again
and i love the super speed boot :)
Thanks ASUS !!!
Cheers
Sergio
Just got the MVG myself. Nice looking board. I only have SATA2 drives or SATA drives and the MVG only comes with SATA 3.0 and 6gpbs SATA ports. Is it backwards compatible?
guys anyone has an idea i have this UNKNOWN DEVICE listed and i dont have anything installed but the GTX680's on the board...
i have installed all
chipset drivers
MEI
Intel RST
LAN
AUDIO
USB3

but dunno what is that
Did you instal Intel Management Engine Driver?
Check that with Aida64 :).
Too much overclocking for you :P
I have the same cpu as you, any pointers on how I can get 4.8ghz to 5.0ghz stable? I'm on watercooling as well. My ram is 2*4gig of Samsung 30nm. Right now I'm on Auto CPU overclocking at 4.6ghz bios 1011. Thanks.
lol well u know me :)
yes the tip for IVY is simple you will need a big bump on vcore to go to 5GHz stable...no more, For that reason as mine is stable on 1,51 loaded i use vcore offset so when i game it stays at 1,5 mostly and when im doing like now writing its on 1,25
I guess you dont fold with this xcore, right? :P
andressergio would you be able to post your settings? Just the voltages mostly, I have a MVG on the way and have fallen behind on what Ivy needs/is safe for which voltages.
of course mate but most ppl will tell me its high but my chip is rock solid at this settings for 24/7
do you want OFFSET vcore ? or manual either way i give you both ok ?
my I3570K 5GHz on water IHS OFF with new paste and on again + Team X 2600 CL10-12-12-22 1T tRFC 107 Latency Boundary 6
MANUAL VCORE
1) LOAD GAMER PROFILE and set x50 multi
LLC = Ultra High = 75%
INTERNAL PLL= ENABLED
VCORE= 1,485
VTT= VCCCIO = 1.1
VCCSA = 1.1
PLL = 1.7
VDIMM 1.665 (this depends on your mem)
OFFSET VCORE this will make your chip load the max when gamming and when needed and when browsing or whatever will be on 1,25volts :)
1) LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS and reboot
2) enter the DIGI VRM and set VCORE PHASE CONTROL = OPTIMIZED (this will enable MANUAL and OFFSET otherwise you wont see that menu)
3) put VCORE = OFFSET +
VCORE= +0.25
rest same volts as above
4) ENABLE EIST and C1E states
Thats it mate
Hope it goes good my chip is vcore hunger but rock solid
Cheers !!!
Sergio
I seem to have the same problem as Hersounds with this 1101 bios. 5Ghz stabilty requires a hell of a lot more Vcore. Also latency Boundary 5 on my PSC sticks was easy with other bios' now i have to set it to 7 as a minimum for some stability.
I want to flash back but EZ flash says Image outdated. Can i use the USB drive in ROG connect USB port then hold the rog connect button for a few seconds with this board to flash back to older bios?
Yes it did indeed but not the way it's described by Asus. I couldn't get it to flash and tried different USB drives, re-formatted the drives, tried holding the rog connect button for 30 seconds but the led close to the bios chip went on solid (no blinking) and it wasn't reading from the usb drive at all.
Finally after i renamed the bios M5G.CAP instead of M5G.ROM it flashed without trouble! Now i'm back at bios 0903 but i might give 0078 a go, in hindsight that was the best bios i've used.
The reason bios 1101 requires more Vcore is down to LLC working different i think. With bios 1101 having LLC set to high makes Vcore droop almost .025V! Ultra high seems the better choice there. Actually the same goes for bios 0903 i found. With bios 0078 setting LLC to high was good enough to get very little Vdroop.
I got a second L221B009 3770K today that needs less vcore than my first one and the IMC is much stronger. I am now starting to play with memory to see how tight I can get them then will start pushing them higher. I love this board!

http://i580.photobucket.com/albums/s...200Mhz_32M.jpg
Nice chip but whats the temp reading on the beast?
Thanks Sergio!! Very happy with this chip. Picking up one more L221B009 this week then will pick the best out of all 5.
I havent really monitored temps or stability testing with Prime95 yet. When I checked they were like 68C during HyperPi 32M.
Here is mems at 2500Mhz.

Hey guys, I need a quick advice from you all, as I have opportunity to get some stuff from abroad. :D
I was thinking of some memory, planing to use on Maximus 5 Gene (and Rampage 4 Extreme):
G.SKILL Trident X 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Model F3-2400C10Q-16GTX @10-12-12-31
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Model F3-2400C10Q-16GZH @10-12-12-31
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Model F3-19200CL11Q-16GBZHD @11-11-11-31
I'm leaning towards 11-11-11-31, but I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks guys!
EDIT:
Team Xtreem 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Model TXD316G2400HC11QC-L @11-11-11-31
New favorite:
Team Vulcan 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Model TXD316G2400HC10TQC-V @10-11-11-31
Go for samsung low profile 30nm, 50$ 2x4GB so 100$ total for 4x4GB , they will take you to 2400 10-12-12-22 1.65v with ease and they are your cheaper option :)
The G.Skill 2x4GB Trident X 2400Mhz 10-12-12-31 kits are on sale at Newegg until 8/6/12 for $89.99 plus an additional $20.00 off with Promo Code EMCNCGJ44 You could get 2 of these kits shipped to your door for $139.98 which is $60 cheaper than the same G.Skill Trident X 4x4GB 2400Mhz kit you linked to above with the same timings. Heres the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231587
I have them running at DDR3-2550Mhz 10-12-12-28-1T right now. At 2400Mhz I can tighten them down to 9-10-12-19-1T. I paid $99.99 for this kit a month or so ago and just ordered a second kit at $69.99 for 4x4GB fun. Cant beat that price for 2400Mhz memory.
Am i blind or you cant set blck in the new bios?
me neither perfect using 1101 perfect just need a bump on vcore
Yes I forgot to thank you :) I needed a "baseline" since I hadn't overclocked Z77 or Ivy and haven't kept up.
Looks like I got a bum chip though, weak IMC and needs lots of vcore for 4.8GHz.
Sitting at 4.5 for daily use right now, IMC will do tight timings and subs but even 2400MHz on my Trident X 2400 kit it struggles to keep stable. Could be the memory too I guess but I will blame the IMC since the clocking is bad on teh chip anyway :p:
Guys maybe an obvious question
i currently have my raid of SSD on the intel Sata 3 wich we have only 2 on the gene, but ASMEDIA has 2 more, can i make a mixed raid ASMEDIA + INTEL or its not possible ?
Sergio
As far as your OC tutorial is concerned, unfortunately for me it is no go. The PLL is a culprit. When on default and everything auto, in BIOS PLL shows 1.813-1.819. And it's stable up to 4.6 GHZ. To reach higher OC, I need to set PLL 1.81875 (it shows 1.829-1.832), meaningless the VCCSSA= VCCIO on auto or set to 1.100.
I think it is worth mentioning for everyone who has a crappy CPU sample as I have ;)
One thing I noticed after switching to 1204 BIOS. In BIOS I have LN2 mode enabled. Shouldn't the jumper be responsible for this option to be enabled? Of course I didn't even touch the jumper...
OK I'm starting to like this motherboard more :) Or it might be the 1204 BIOS.
The LN2 mode just disappeared after the first reset. I mean power off the psu and power on again and there is no LN2 mode anymore :)
More to this: when I reached 49 multiplayer, my keyboards (connected to two USB 2.0 on the back) backlight started flashing (1 time per 5 sec). I connected the keyboard via USB 3.0- no flashing. Back to USB 2.0- flashing again. This effect took place only when logged to Windows.
After I reset BIOS to default- flashing gone :)
Someone has similar impressions? :) Mayby using the 1204 BIOS too?
Hey bud
lol i didnt realize there was a 1204 BIOS im so happy with 1101 with latest RAID ROM and new RST drivers for my RAID0 of SSD
well im sorry you couldnt reach your goal but its not so easy on 3770K's to reach 5GHz stable, easier on the 3570K's
About W8 i hated it and loved it the day i put it, hated it cauz it keeps locking freezing no matter the new updates from intel nvidia etc, loved it cauz i feel it faster...
Crysis2 wont run, Max Payne3 also, BF3 stuttered, so i guess isnt mature yet
let me know if i can help you further mate !
Cheers
Sergio
How do you know when a mono is dying? Even after clearing CMOS and loading defaults it more of ten than not refuses to boot into windows. It freezes at the "flying" starting windows screen.
Tried individual member sticks stressed tested my CPU all at stock and it seems fine. Some times my HD takes bit to initialize but happens on two HDS. No artifact so that should rule out the bid. Only thing is mono or PSU. I have the maximus v gene.
I have this problem even with stock speeds.
I decided to hop on the MVG bandwagon. This is the first time I've been able to run anything at DDR3-2666.
Attachment 129336Attachment 129337Attachment 129338
Iīm trying to overclock my Samsung 30nm on this motherboard, anything over 2000mhz is a pain to get windows loading. Can someone pls give me som advice on voltage and other settings to achieve more OC ?
I did. Still a problem.
Situman, do you have another cpu to try? Sounds like a faulty cpu to me.
Having said that, i flashed bios 1204 this afternoon. All seems well, the rapid boot is a very welcome feature of this bios. LLC needs to be set at ultra high again with this bios or else Vcore went from 1.32V down to 1.296 under 100% load causing a bsod when set to high.
Recently I find the new bios, so downloading and testing!
Hmm, corrupted bios maybe?
Don't know if the bootblock gets updated after bios flash. Maybe you should try the usb drive in rog connect usb port method to flash bios.
this 1204 seems a little delicate with LLC...it just need same vcore as 1101 now its working but at first i have troubles getting mem and all stable
*confirmed it uses more vcore than 1101 :(
So nobody noticed that BIOS 1204 eats more vcore than 1101 and 1101 than 904 ???
I see that , but for me Ivybridge processors are "aging" fast and bios changes runs accordingly
If you installed windows with your HDD set as IDE, then you load defaults or clear cmos it automatically defaults to AHCI, which will cause it to hang or bsod at the splash screen. Make sure you set it back to IDE after clearing cmos or loading defaults if this is the case.
Its also possible that you have corrupted you install.
well Zeus i couldnt fix it it also fails to pass windows assesemnt no matter what vcore, i saw some errors like it was memory so im tired of this, i will go back to 0904 as its the best one for me
with 0904 i use offset +0.245 and LLC ultra high
with 1101 i use offset +0.245 and LLC extreme
with 1204 i couldnt figure whats wrong...
cheers
Sergio
went back to 1101 and everyting is normal now, OC on chip and mem is stable again as it was before i dont know whats wrong with 1204 but im scared of that "win8" compatibility could crap out the OC
cheers to all
Sergio
1204 is confuse i need 1.488 vcore to run at 4.8 ghz stable. it's stable? yes it is! but why use 1.48 vcore if earlier bios need same vcore to do 5 .0 ghz stable...i don't understand
