These two broke my goals for the card (beating 12000 in 3DMark 11 and breaking 3000 in Heaven DX11), everything else will be icing on the cake.

4X 7970 Quad-Fire 3930k only at 4.6. Fast runs just for fun.

I usually bench my 3930k at 5.1, so the score would be higher. But I didn't had enough time. Later.
[QUOTE=OC Nub;5041587]Im using the one from the link in the first post here in this thread, it also has ati-winflash in the folder once you install gpu tweak. I was lazy and used ati-winflash, figure it has dual bios so no problem fixing a bad flash. All went well though.
Second screen shows the limits once you check the box for overclocking range enhancement.

u got 1.40 and 2000 limit with that one? it's here and i can't get more than 1850, may you link it here ?
i have this one GPUTweakVer2026UpdateOCEnhanceString20111229 (1)
The one I have is GPUTweakerVER2026UpdateOCEnhanceString2. I thought I got it here on the first page. Try this link, it was posted by Shamino a few pages back in the thread. http://www.mediafire.com/?t2lt36eiulfy197
Or try this posted on page 1, its from KP cooling forums. http://kingpincooling.com/forum/show...9&postcount=35
It is one of the 2, not sure which one.
Using this bios also posted by Shamino. http://kingpincooling.com/forum/show...5&postcount=57
Guys what the finding regarding default VID again? Mine is a 1.175 card so it can handle 1.3v but maxes out around 1270 and after a few runs this seems to drop (heat soak I'm assuming) so is my card a good candidate for water cooling?
:D

"Cool" drivers.

why is this bios http://www.mediafire.com/?2prshj3zzbuupqb 64kb an not 128kb ???????
I just copied the link posted by Shamino. I am using it now, it
is working great.
I'm using it, too. And there is no difference, but the voltage...you can set it now to 1.4V!
Dstealth there is an unlock button on the left side of the vgpu and core clock sliders, it's pretty obvious it allows independent movement of each slider.
:)
official unlocked bios

You need to unlock/click on this to adjust separately.

What is the "disable 2D" function for?
:)
Same thing happened to me. Using the unlocked BIOS, my idle voltage is now 1.15V according to GPU Tweak. Voltage goes all the way up to 1.4V though . I imagine that's well beyond the "safe" range, even for water cooling. Does anybody know what a good maximum is for 28nm? 40nm was <1.35V, correct? I imagine it would be less.
With vdrop 1.4v software is 1.28-1.3v load measured with multimeter.
No lock here ?!?

1 second blurp at the start, because I forgot to disable ULPS. I got 40-50 minimum now with ULPS disabled. It was fast runs just for fun. Just look at the overall score. Don't focus on the 1 sec blurp at the start because of ULPS. Sigh. I knew people would focus on the half-second blurp... :)
I have Quad-Fire because I can. That's all. Just like all those people that got Quad-SLI 580. :)
What causes that 1second stutter near the start of a Heaven run? I have seen it every time I have run Heaven and it kills the min fps figure.
:)
Hdd?
Quite possibly, that's what it feels like too, I haven't tried it on an ssd either.
:)
Well, this was a 6970 TriFire and hopefully te Quad I've just got on the cheap will increase it more. Nice to see the 7 series being battered here!

Anyone here bought a 7950?
Still waitin to see a 1.3v overclock myself. Although you'll need to flash with the 7970 ASUS OC bios for higher voltage control and better mem timings. Best i saw was SKYMTL's sapphire 7950 oc at like 1.18ghz but he did that with only +.1v increase.

The reference 7950 with the 2x6pin and 1 less phase pcb might be the one u need to use that 7970 asus OC bios with. Based on the OC results from Cypress PRO versus XT where XT's did about 5-10% higher speeds than Pro's just from binning - 7950s might reach 1150-1250mhz, while 7970s will do around 1200-1350mhz.
Memory seems to clock the same from what i've seen.
From sweclockers:
http://www.sweclockers.com/image/red...gif?k=ef55dab9
Well, i read a review (not sure where) were they flashed with a 7970 bios to see if u could unlock the card and card wouldn't boot.
Even with 2x SSD in raid0, its the same. But you can reduce it, just let the engine run 5-6 seconds, then press F9 for benchmark, if it still occurs, re launch the bench with F9.
A good thing will be if they was " cut " the bench in 3-4 parts... calculate the average for each parts, and just divide the total scores by the number of " parts " . Same do many bench.
Does that then influence the minimum fps recorded?
Looking foward to see a liquid 7950 results-
do you know any special trick for hd7970 in 3dmark03 for a high nature score?
So if I don't want to do any voltage tweaking, I should just stick with MSI AB or Asus GPU Tweak?
No table of results?
Hey guys
I just got my 7950 a few days ago. Been taking it easy with the OC.
ATM i'm stable at GPU 1100mhz and mem 1500mhz. Unfortunately i've reached my max with MSI Tool.
I know i need to flash with a unlocked bios. Any recommendations? I have a Sapphire 7950.
Or would it be better to change the limits of my current bios?
Thx
After having time to settle an an EK-FC7970 block + backplate added I am seriously NOT impressed with my Sapphire 7970.
Stock volts using ccc will do 1125/1525 no problem - HOWEVER I note a loud noise coming from the card when I overclock even the slightest - its more a electricity crackling noise than a cap whine! :( - Anyone else had this?
Overclocking wise using AB - I can get upto 1175@1.2v - and thats it - no higher :( :( Even with a waterblock it just refuses to go higher no matter the voltage.
Press F9 (starts benchmark) at sceene/level 2, and the dipp in FPS is minimal at the start, SSD helps ofcourse..
Single HD7970 1125/1575:
http://bildr.no/thumb/1098158.jpeg http://bildr.no/thumb/1098159.jpeg
Agreed - heres a youtube clip of the sound - starts at 16seconds when 3dmark started the first test:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odYPC...layer_embedded
See I've had cap whine on previous cards (which is more consistent and high-pitched) - This sound however is more of a crackling sort of sound...... only does it when the card is overclocked (even only slightly using CCC) whilst under load.
Mine does the same noise since day one, not a problem for me. The sound increase with the voltage but you can't here it with the stock cooling noise, only notifiable wit water or lnē.
Can we maybe change the thread title to include the 7950s?
Have you guys noticed performance drops when OCing to high? ie lower scores?
I changed it, but it just changes the title of the post. A mod/admin would have to change the actual visible title.
Also added links to TRIXX & Afterburner since they don't require a BIOS flash.
Most definitely.
Same here. I thought mine needed to be RMA'ed (which it was), but the 2nd (HIS) 7970 does the same thing. I have to say... while this card is great for Battlefield 3 over my GTX580, by far the nVidia cards are of higher quality in general. From the shoddy 2D (2.5D) performance of the AMD cards, to the as usual spotty drivers and slow driver releases... I can't wait for Kepler to be honest.
Slow driver realeses ? Come on... Nvidia is the one that takes ages to put drivers out... as far as for graphic cards quality you must be joking too... 570GTX ?!?! 590GTX !?! do those ring any bells at all ?
Whilst i dont like belittling my 7970, amd shud still be ashamed at the lack of driver support for ud. We still have no 3dmark qualified drivers a month after launch. Looks like i'm gunna miss the asrock oc compo as a result too :(
Oh n thanks for confirming bowt the noise guys. I can rest in peace now knowing i dont have to take my loop apart. Thnx
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
that kind of sounds like a fan hitting a shroud or something.. maybe like it speeds up, changes position on the magnets and starts touching the fan shroud?
I'm using waterblocks on all my 7970s. So it's not a fan noise. Capacitor whine.
Any watercooled 7950? (A)

Still can't get over how well these cards overclock. Insanely good. I can't wait to see how they go under sub-zero cooling.
don't get too excited just yet mate.
I was benching last night - no problems at all @ 1185/1700 (stock volts) - 3dmark 11 runs perfectly fine and so did an hour of furmark.
As soon as I launched BF3 though it would crash within 5>7 seconds.
Sooooo. Anyone else get the same? This was using the 'unlocked' BIOS, i'm going to try the MSI and Asus BIOS tonight...

No crashes yet from either BF3 nor Heaven.
Was trying to start a 3Dmark11 run, but I think it hates MSI afterburner? :p
http://kirkedam.mine.nu/kwk/Bilder%2...7950stable.png
There, had to bump core... kinda weird, 2 hours of BF3 should have been taxing enough :S
And, Heaven hates to be ran on a different resolution than what the desktop is.
My FPS is rather low, odd.

Here is a HD7970@1100/1800 to compare Heaven and 3DM11: http://3dmark.com/3dm11/2732941
http://bildr.no/thumb/1103328.jpeg
In an earlier post in this thread I gave instructions on how to maximize MinFPS in Heaven, but I can repeat it so you're screenshot looks a bit nicer: Press F9 to start benchmark on Sceene/Level 2 or the Last Sceene/Level.
Unigine Heaven scales very well on GPU memory bandwidth so my 1800/345.6GB/s really helps on heavy GPU benches, because with HD7970@1100/1575 you are only ~3 FPS behind, and thats not bad at all considering you beat an 900mhz GTX580 by ~20fps, the 7950 looks good imho ;)
Thanks again =)
Gonna try that later, as well as OC'ing the card more, as I understand Sapphire Trixx allows higher mem and core clocks?
Nice, that puts the numbers into perspective a bit more, AMD really did good job on this release I think, gonna be exciting to see what Nvidia counter attacks with!
for those who have flashed their card with the asus bios unlocked looked after a bench if the frequencies switch 2d in the ccc or gpu tweak .
Newest score, gonna play with this and see how it fares in BF3, cause the air cooling is starting to fall, getting tiny amounts of artifacts during the end of Heaven. Bring on the 7950 water blocks! ^^
*Had to bump the res back to 1200p, messes up my icons if it crashes!

Not entirely game stable, causes minor texture "stretches", not sure if its caused by too high temperatures, frequencies or both.

I can second that, but I also have had crashes in windows after the computer has been on for a while.
These never happened while I was browsing with the occasional youtube, it happens when I turn of my monitor (yeah, strange habbit), and go do something else for a couple of hours.
When I come back it takes a little extra time to get back on and I get the message that ATI etc crash.
I get the Display driver has stopped error while on desktop sometimes, guess its a driver problem. Since 5870, I expect driver issues when I buy an ATI card, but the card is a beast for 3d benching so for me its worth it. For gaming I would much prefer using an nvidia card.
Problem with monitor resume not working is with the latest leaked drivers.
Confirm. Same "driver stops" issue.
Any have a unlocked bios for Sapphire 7950?
Wonder when the new RBE will come out that supports the 7xxx series?
@ GX-Bad Angel
Hey, the monitor doesnt go to sleep, I have it set to "Never", but the screen goes black sometimes while im on desktop, and then it shows the display driver has stopped warning/error.
I dont use firefox, Ive been using chrome or explorer.
Try this for flickering 2D and other 2D issues:
Navigate to: "C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles. xml"
Edit in Notepad and find the section below:
<Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_PCI_VEN_1002&DEV_6798& amp;SUBSYS_0B001002&REV_00_4&2F1C4782& 0&0018A">
<Property name="Want_0" value="15000" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="137500" />
Edit the value
<Property name="Want_0" value="15000" />
to this
<Property name="Want_0" value="30000" />
then save before closing.
This will change memory idlespeed to 300mhz instead of 150... Reported to solve 120hz issues, might be linked to other issues as well.. Crossfire will have two of those entries, one for each card, to be safe change both... This is an old 5xxx "fix", I believe most issues seen on 79xx needs a driverfix, but here you can try changing idle core/mem to see if something works..
http://bildr.no/thumb/1107033.jpeg
Thanks! Ill give it a try.
On another note, thought I had killed the card last night. I was changing memory out, guess I hit the card with my hand, but when I powered the board up, The card was not all the way in the slot. So I get the black screen every time when tryingt to boot, I thought "OH :banana::banana::banana::banana:". Finally switched the card to slot 3 and it booted ok, but the screen would go black at random and lost all function in windows, the screen would turn green, blue, lost icons etc. As a last resort I moved the bios switch on the card, and all seems ok. Then reflashed the other bios and both seem to be working ok. Luckily this was not on the R4E, but the Giga Z68 board, still kind of sucks to have a dead pcie slot.
Interesting! - Its all find and dandy doing benchmarks are super high clocks but if we can't game with them its a bit pointless!. I initially thought it was because 3dmark11 doesn't use up much graphics memory it might be that so reduce the memory speed to something I knew was easily sustainable - i.e. 1575 as per CCC 100% stable overclock. This still gave me the same problem - lockup in BF3 in 5 > 10 seconds of starting a game. I took the GPU clock down to 1150 (I know I can do 1125/1575 100% stable on stock volts using CCC as thats what I've been using from day one) - but was still getting the same until I upped the vcore.
Wierd...... Anyone any thoughts on this anyone?
My thinking was theres no point running afterburner / trixx etc etc to gain slightly better clocks than CCC by having to use more volts aswell, if it isn't gaming stable so have gone back to my CCC overdrive stock volts settings of 1125/1575...
My BF3 runs fine. If you are crashing it's because of too high oC with too low volts.
BTW, i'm using the latest Beta.
Did anyone notice a performance increase with the new BF3 patch?

Having fun with my Sapphire 7950 OC so far. 1260/1787 @ 1.25v. Tried 1800Mhz on the memory but it caused 3dMark11 to crash about 1/2 way through, might see if I can use afterburner to add some memory voltage to break 1800. Dual fan setup is nice and quiet and cools very well.

What VRM temp are you guys getting with your overclocked 7970 ?
You can check it with newest version of HWiNFO64.
I got a little scared when i checked my temp, on a SAPPHIRE 7970 with aftermarked Accelero Xtreme 7970 heatsink+ fan on auto.

Good thing Accelero @ 100% fan sounds like stock cooling @ 30%, so i made a very agressiv fan profile with temp over 50 degree celsius = 100% fan.
(screenshots was just a test, from before i found my 24/7 clocks. 1200/1750 + fan at auto @ 1.175v + 1.625v)

Although I am running high clocks since I haven't figured out how to clock past 1125MHz. But this is w/ an EK water block.
@ lowfat you need the bios linked from KPC, that one lets the sliders in AB go to 1665 core and 2400 on the memory:up:
Here is how to extend clocks in CCC to and Afterburner to 1665/2475 with no unofficialmodes or bioschanges:
Create an Shortcut of MSIAfterburner.exe in the MSI Afterburner folder, and in the shortcuts properties Target box add " /xcl" (space+/xcl without the quotes) and make sure the shortcuts administrator rights option is turned on. Start Afterburner with this shortcut (make sure Afterburner is closed before doing this), and you'll be asked to reboot. After reboot, CCC limits are extended, so are Afterburners, independant of each other. Keep the shortcut, as you'll have to do this after a driverupdate. This will work as long as AMD allows it in future drivers.. Tested to work in RC11

Kudos to Unwinder...
By the looks of things iam not the only one having problems with VRM temp on the Accelero heatsink. (other custom coolers also)
Found this on a other site (I will remove the link if its not allowed to link to other forums)
Getting 95-100c @ 1200mhz + 1.1175v when looping vantage. :(
The stock cooler is actually better on the VRM's, but its so much louder.
Can't have your cake and eat it too i quess
Hoping swiftech will make a heatsink like this that fit under the Accelero+7970 combo. I would order it in a heartbeat.
