Another thanks Raja for 1005....
I'm seriously at a loss here...
I tried updating the bios to the 1005.
No matter what I do, setting the sata to raid, trying to force boot from my raid 0 drives, it will NOT boot from the raid drives.
Even tho intel chipset say the raid is bootable.
Switching back to the original bios, at least I get my system back.
Every thing with this board is a struggle...
I feel sorry I bought it. Might get the UD7 instead if things keep going as they are now...
Edit:
After anther hour, I got it to work...
Had to backup the working BIOS, load it to the second bios, and only THAN I could update the bios and getting the raid to work and boot.
@Defoler
If I were you, I would go read the UD7 thread before making any decisions. I have never been an Asus fan, and used mainly Gigabyte boards for the past few years. After the unresolved issues and lack of support for Gigbytes p67/z68 boards ( I have several and some issues are still not fixed almost 1 year later) I have no regrets buying this, and not the UD7.
The support for this board has been second to none! Hope you are able to get your problems resolved and give this a chance. I doubt very seriously you would be better off on the UD7, or get near the quality of support
I must confess, this RIVE has been the best mobo I've ever owned. It may be intimidating for the faint of heart, but this board has every possible adjustment parameter. It's been a month and I'm still learning new stuff.
couldn't have said it better myself ocnub:up:

Why did you flame the poor guy, though? He had a problem, and you insult him? This is getting as bad as OCN now...
(sorry, refering to sprayingmango, and I'm not in the best mood. back horribly swollen, marfan syndrome, slowly dying...having to come to grips about life and death, and more stuff I can't say without causing a massive flame war..)
Well I'm pretty peeved since my stupid CPU-Z still won't validate. Will no doubt need to re-install it all again. However I couldn't install RAID originally (said it couldn't install Windows on it for some stupid reason). Little annoyed since my 4-way array was so quick before... I did try 2x and 2x but no luck.
Anyway, I'm a tad tired from work do... So I may try it again tonight or tomorrow... *yawn* have to get through the last day of work...
Ensure you use the latest IRST drivers from the ASUS download page.

Thanks and merry christmas to you Raja. I'm just doing my best, but I know eventually I'm going to have a VERY long hospital stay. Just not ready to go without a laptop and mobile device yet (hopefully will get one after christmas).
I'm already deeply considering an Asus setup if 8 cores wind up coming out (non xeons...)
Anyway back to topic for now...
Hello, the link for bios 1005 not working for me. Could you please upload it to another server??
hopefully this sticks around for a bit. . .

Am I seeing some 2400 mhz memory speed there? Or did I already go to heaven and get blessed by the memory genie in the sky?
Wow....
2133 is fully stable right?
My rig was prime stable at 4.8ghz@1.4 for hours. First two days of folding system was fine, suddenly it all changed.. Random reboots, blue screens u name it.
Yeah I know, I remember from my previous setup that I had to dop all that. However, after I select the driver and load it, it sees the array but then tells me it's not suitable for installing windows 7 onto. So I split it into 2x 2xdrive RAIDs but still no joy. Used the drivers from the website and again, no luck.
SSD's and 4x Crucial M4 128Gb with firmware 9 on them. The setup worked fine on my previous AMD setup so not sure what if anything I'm doing wrong...
Happy Xmas to all RIVE owners !
Hey,
I have been having issues with the R4E too and I had the same issue you had yet I had it with the 0901 Bios.
What I did was Reset Cmos and then reset the entire thing up. What I noticed when it happened was I disabled all the other drives in the list and only allowed for first boot option. I dont know if that was the cause but I was able to boot my raid OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS once I reset CMOS and did not disable all the other drives. I just left them as they were and put my raid0 set up as my first boot device. Also, I noticed when they were not booting that even though I would set raid0 and then restart. then set my array as the first boot, Upon restart it was resetting Raid back to AHCI for some reason. So it required another restart to make sure everything was what I set it at to get it to boot. And then it did in fact boot.
I tried to set the Normal OC Profile in the Bios and my system would not boot at all. I even purchased New RipjawZ 2133mhz to make sure it was not ram related. None of the profiles work for me. I do have 3 cards so I dont know if that is the reason or not.
Also, I have owned the UD7 and though I was able to hit 5.5ghz the board had major issues. Like as soon as you reach its maximum overclock it wigs out and starts an A6 error loop and does not come out of it. You dont want a UD7 until they get the Bios updated. Right now None of them change anything. They all did the same for me. AND not to mention they come with one of the Dual Bios already non functional on many of the boards. A buddy of mine has purchased 2 of them, I have owned 2 of them and one Assassin2 board and ALL of them came with one of the dual Bios not working. Im still going to get a UD7 again once they update the Bios and get the bugs out.
You dont have to load the Raid drivers from a thumb drive. You can load it from the DVD that comes with the Board. Thats how I did it. It does say something about the Intel ports not recognizing the Optical drive but I eliminated that issue by installing the Optical drive on the Asmedia ports. It saw my optical drive and I was able to load the Raid drivers via the Install DVD, You just have to remember to put the Windows Disc back in after loading the drivers.
The reason it says it is not suitable is because at that time you need to put the Windows Disc back in and hit refresh. Then it will be Suitable!
My first run on R4E with CPU @ LN2, in love with this board

I've had a few BSODs at stock clocks since I added 32GB of DDR3 1600 Vengeance. Anyone know why? It seems to happen randomly. Should I increase any voltages now that I'm running 8 sticks of ram? I set the XMP profile in the BIOS and that's it so far.

I’ve another X79-Rog which couldn’t power up at all with no reasons. Everything’s plugged & the all LEDs were on. CPU was properly attached. Had tried Jumper & got no response. My best guess would be a power circuit issue. Anyone can provide the measure point & possible solution? Appreciate it & Merry X’max !:)
BTW…Started to familiarize myself with the board under cold & found it quite impressive though !

Set the sub-timings like this to start off with, you can tighten one setting at a time. VCCSA most CPUs should be able to run this at 1.10V easily.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A greeting.
Added a second rad to the loop today. I already had it so thought I would put it to use. Cant really tell if its doing any better than before. Wonder if it needs a second pump? Bottom rad has 3x scythe 133cfm's, second has the same but installed the in the front, too much crap to move to get behind the rad. Will fix this soon.
Ran this with a little AC blowing on the rads. Temps go up to around 53c when AC kicks off, high 30's low 40's with AC running.

Thought i should bring this to your attention Raja---had the system running fine with bios 1004 gtx580 in slots 1 and 4, Areca 1680ix in slot 2, and gtx 560ti in slot 5. Tried a boost in the clock to 5065 which booted into windows but locked up after a short time. When I rebooted the system hung on code 66. I cleared the bios and then restored last working settings and it again hung on 66. Since I was having bios resets i updated to 1005 and tried again with settings that had worked fine with the established hardware and access. ; that again didn't post and hung at code 66. I went into the bios and tried a setting that had been suggested with PCIe problems of moving the setting to Gen2 instead of Gen3 the default--poof the system posted with that adjustment and I've now restored the working settings and then modified those up again to a higher frequency and I'm still OK. I have to wonder what would be up if I went out and got 2 or 3 7970s thought and the Gen3 was needed, there still seems to be some type of weakness with the bios related to PCIe and USB equipment--this is a great board and you guys are doing a fabulous job with getting it working perfectly
^After you clear cmos do you go into the bios and load Optomized Defaults and reboot again before loading your working profile/settings?
Well, I have been testing and slowness on raid0 can be randomly solved disabling erp support, prochot (giga boards), c1e halt, and speedstep, cpu thermal monitor and c3/c6, and putting windows to high performance... Possible has to do with pciex bandwidth...
Vt-d seems to work well with my stepping c1 3930k...
I found the answer to my slow shout downs and slow boot ups. It was the Asm1061 storage controller.
Disabled it in the bios, and bingo now 20 second boot ups. Instead of over a minute boot ups.
Also fast shut downs.
Sorry just checked this, now I'm back to slow shout downs and boot ups.
Strange this worked yesterday, but not today, again disregard the above...
Ok, I went back in bios and instead of disabling Asm1061 storage controller.
I enabled it, and set it to IDE mode, now again fast shut downs and boot ups.
21 sec. I'll keep an eye on this and report back if its only temporary...
I just made some quick testing.
Vcore 1.275 (med LLC)
VCCSA 1.185
Dram 1.605 / 2133 / 10-11-10-28-1T
100x42 is Linpack stable but anything higher crash very fast. I think that my 3930k need more volts for higher than 4200mhz. My best bench clock is 5ghz with ~1.475vcore.
Does Anyone know why the CPU Ratio vanishes whenever you try to set a 1.66 strap? I am using 1005 Bios.
cos turbo mode is automatically disabled and a lower ratio set for you the first time you set a 167 strapped bclk since some people do not know that a higherbclk will need a lower ratio to keep end speed not crazy high.
you just need to go to cpu config menu and set the cpu ratio from there , the same page where you set cstates
Anyone testing the 1005 bios got improved CPU or DRAM clocks from it???? Or similar clocks at less volts??? I think I may have a go with this one!!!:)
im diggin it

Wow, nice chip!
http://i.imgur.com/vLxv3.png
it's begging to be (moar) frozen:D
Im in the middle of testing it, I know that 5.0Ghz with an earlier bios was taking more voltage then it is now.
I am at 5.125 with only 1.49v.
I cant wait to put this on Phase! Right now I am on the H100
Below is a validation link
http://valid.canardpc.com/cache/banner/2171581.png
How stable is the 5.125ghz clock Abeeftec??? You have shown no benchmarks or stability tests.
Considering the 5.6 2-core screenshot I'm not sure stability is his main concern.
Whoops, my bad!
I have only ran wprime and Vantage with that. I am trying to see how high I can validate on the H100 then I am putting this on Phase and going to try and beat my 5.6ghz with the UD7 with all the cores running same speed.
once I get its highest validation on the H100 I will try for some stability and see how high I can get it on the H100.
I doubt it would be 100 percent stable at that voltage. But I am shocked it is starting up and running anything with it
I also got my Photobucket account maxed out. And for some reason the uploader will not take a screen shot from my computer directly.
I have a question for someone who has tried it...
When trying to go for the 167 Strap,
I was told with the UD7 to try it by setting the strap and then lowering the Blck to 90.
Well on the RIVE there is no way to set it to 90 like there is a seperate setting on the UD7 for that.
So what would I do? Just lower the Blck to 156 from the 166?
But the overclock doesn't take effect until it kicks into Windows (aparanetly) from what I learned at my LN2 days (been away the past 2 days). My chip will boot at 5.6Ghz but not into Windows...
Best I could manage was 5.4Ghz on LN2 wPrime 1024 stable etc. Unfortunately my captures were all duffs... so I have screenshots but no validation *cries*
Was also on the older BIOS... wish I'd checked and upgraded :(
update to 1005 and get that sucker cold again, it helps:D

I don't have a pot and no access to LN2 now :(

Raja I am thinking of trying the Bios you just posted. What Internal PLL voltage should you set??? for better overclocking?? Is the rest of this bios as 1005?? Thanks.
What tuning specifically mate. I am still on 0901 and its working well. Was gonna try one of the newer bioses to see if I could get abit more out of my chip.
If you where trying would you use the one Raja just posted or 1005???
The tuning will be for Gen 3.0 cards so I would not worry about that part. Doubt you are going to see additional OC headroom on your setup but you can flash for peace of mind if you wish.
On my UD7 board I was only able to get 5.0ghz at 1.49 volts. And 4.9 @ 1.48v. Then I tried for 5.1ghz and could not even hit it with 1.64v. Then I hooked up SS and ran it up to 5.5ghz at 1.59 and ran vantage only. I hit 5.6ghz @ 1.64 but only for a few seconds and then I went to sleep for the evening and in the middle of that night my board blew up from condensation. I am fairly sure the reason was a thermal one why there seem to be a limit on liquid and air at 5.0 or 5.1 on these chips even though it doesnt look to be too hot. I have a friend who is running a bunch of boards and chips too and he had the same issues. Not many people were hitting over 5.2Ghz on Liquid. My board constantly posted all the way to the "starting windows" screen but no logo spins once it hits that wall. Funny because if I downed the voltage tp 1.49 it would spin and almost go in. But once I was over 1.52v it was the same lock up at the same spot starting windows.
Now with this R4E and a different CPU I should be able to go higher on phase since it requires less voltage then my other chip did
Same problem here - I have a brick wall at 5.1 on water. It will run everything (WP1024M, all 3D) at 5.08/5.09, but once it ticks to 5.1 or above it crashes. Haven't had the chance to take it cold yet but hopefully it will give up some more under more extreme conditions.
At those frequencies you will be pulling a shed-load of current, I'd make a crude guess at peaks in excess of 25amps from EPS 12V under full load (maybe more as processor temps increase). It's not surprising you can't quite find full stability.
Cheers Mate. I will flash the other bios to 1005 and try that first. Then this new one after.
For some reason, the only bios with stable performance is 06 for me, all others give me memory issues. Can't even boot half of the time with newer versions even when only running 16gb whereas 06 is perfectly stable while running 32gb at 2100-2200. 1005 hangs on code 67 (even after clearing CMOS). I've pretty much tried everything from reseating the CPU multiple times, changing memory slots, unplugging USB devices and so on.
I don't think it's related to the IMC either considering that it's able to run 32gb stable at stock VCCSA until going above 2000..
Not that I desperately want to upgrade the bios, but being able to would be nice. Any ideas?
hello that is with you so
So my boot time to the beep
So switch on the power supply (standby)
33.2 sec
Normally off completely
39.2 sec
also did you ever?
Nah, But sort of like that. I was awake when it happened at about 1am. It was running when it happened. I was watching the last episode of Dexter when it made a noise like an electrical sounding ffumph. I like an idiot, restarted it and kept watching dexter. Then it happened a second time and thats when I waited and took the chiller off and found the water everywhere.
About a year ago I was using the Xpressar Thermaltake case which has a small Chiller in it. Really nice Xaser Case too. Anyway, I thought it was a 24/7 case but because I leave my PC on all the time It was about 3 and one half days later it blew up my first P67 Board and my 2600k. That was a year ago.
SO, I bought this chiller and figured I would take all precautions and set it up for 24/7 usage. Well, 3 and a half days into it, SAME THING!
I had set it up the way the Cooler express manual said to. Then after I contacted Cooler Express and asked them what the deal was. I even sent them pictures! And they told me, Well, You can read my email and their response. Their response is first....
Hello,
Noted your email and our engineer reply you as below:
Congratulations to you on overclock skill with new X79 chipset and a 3930K, which reach 5.6ghz.
But please be attention: to run it in long hours you must enhance on temperature maintainance, and the range of temperature maintaining to motherboard must enlarged, and must let in the air on little space, the surrounding of socket
must closely blocked up with available temperature maintained material.
Try more times then you will have experience to know how to deal with it.
Regards,

主旨:RE: registration of warranty
Hello,
After using it for 3 days. And following all instructions to the letter. The system, while running at -50c at stock voltage and speed(I had overclocked during the day and this was the night when I wind down )
It saturated the motherboard, CPU and Socket. I used Black electrical tape and it was absolutely covering everything.
Then I used the eraser and then I used the foam pads. I was able to clock to an impressive 5.6ghz with the new X79 chipset and a 3930k but then it made a ffffumph sound and the screen locked upand I tried to restart.
It went into a loop which I assumed was a cold bug. So I restarted again and it said I had a corrupt Bios. The board I have uses a backup bios to fix the primary one and it tried.
But then I turned it off after it updated and waited an hour. I unhooked the Nozzle and pulled all my components off.
The socket still got loaded with water. I believe there is no way to use this machine 24/7. There is no way to stop the condensation after 3 or 4 days of usage.
The back of the board was loaded up with water too. All foam pads were dripping and water ran out of the socket. I cannot see how its even possible that water got into the socket the way I installed it.
My question is….
Do you know anyone who is running these 24/7? Or are people using these only for special benching and then clean up once done and completely install everything again before another session?
Thanks
So basically his answer was... Maybe you get good once you blow a few more boards up:eek:
My resolution.... No more running the chiller 24/7:D
I dont blame those guys at all. Awesome product and worth the money you pay for them. But I would hope they would change their manual and put in some instructions because on their site they say they can be used 24/7. Though I dont know anyone who does it.
This must be why no voltage over 1.49 seems to get it stable. Do you think its spiking without seeing it? Because once on phase it handled even lower voltage.
On another note...
A buddy of mine and I are both trying to hit the 166 Blck. He has actually been able to get through post on his UD5 and freezes going into windows. I have the R4E and I tried it once and got 00 code no post at all.
So, I went looking through the Bios to see what auto sets and notices that it sets the CPU I/O to -63 and the CPU I/O Drive strength to -63 as well. Could this be hindering me?
I say this because when I first set the preset Normal OC profile it had the PLL all the way down to 1.35 and it would not boot. So I reset and went back into the Bios looking around and put that setting back to 1.80 and booted with that being the only change from the OC normal Profile.
Any reason for Asus making these Auto changes in Skews when a 166 strap is used? I cant seem to find anything related to what these settings actually Skew!
Need your help here... Coming from an RE III/980x to to the RIVE/3960x. Had everything up and running for 2 days. No over clocking just playing some Bf3. Wanted to make some changes before I started to OC so I reinstalled win 7. Now my machine is stuck on the A2 post code. I read back through this thread and someone mentions it's the video initialization. I looked the code up and it says IDE Detect. Also read that others had their post taking along time because of this post code. Well, I can't get past this post code now. 15 minutes and it is still hung. Any ideas? Should I get a new board? Is it my video cards (3 x 480s). Everything is on water.
Thanks in advance for your help!
My R4E is en route and I have a question after consulting the manual.
If I have (2) x16 video cards and (1) OCZ RevoDrive (PCIE SSD) will either of the following configurations work?
(1) PCIE1 x16, PCIE2 x8, PCIE4 x16
(2) PCIE1 x16, PCIE4 x16, PCIE6 x8
Thanks.
Im testing bios 1005. Seems stable as for now with same 4.2ghz 24/7 settings.
