I had my heart set on an Asus board.
MSI is already providing BIOS support for the 960T, so in the end I'll probably go for the 990FXA-GD80.
Asus should hang it's head in shame, a smaller mothetboard manufacturer is way ahead of them when it comes to supporting AMD's new line of cpu's. Even though the Zosma is old compared to the latest Bulldozer release.
I flashed the 2002 bios in my CH4E wes and it wouldn’t post with the FX 4100 installed but it would post with the 1090T installed. Then I flashed the 3017 bios in the CH4E and it wouldn’t post with the FX 4100 installed so I tried the 1090T and 955be using the 3017 bios and neither would post. At the moment that bios chip is now unusable. The bios flash completed normally as usual. I’ve done this many, many times in the past so “I didn’t come learnin” as they say. So for whatever reason it either didn’t complete properly (though it stated that it had completed properly) or the 3017 bios itself has a problem?
Based on my experience with the 3017 bios I say stay away from it. I’m glad there are two bios chips on this CH4E motherboard.
Glad you didn't try that on a CIVF old, it has only one afaik. I don't think there will be any bios out anytime soon for the CIVF for BD cpu's because if BD can run on this board why isn't this bios still out yet? Engineering samples have been around for quite some time now so Asus has had time enough to develope such a bios imo.
Oh well, who needs BD anyway? :D :D
someone posted this saying its for the CHIV and Extreme?
Not sure as I'm at work and can't open a darn zip file aaarggh
http://www.2shared.com/file/9o2lsOCe...BETA-BIOS.html
Well I was hoping it would work because I really like the CH4E and I figured I’d try BD if I could do it on the cheap but I guess not, at least for the time being. BTW this was before eRazorzEDGE tried it just in case you were wondering. So at that time I still thought it would work.
Anyway I removed the battery for an extended period of time then today I installed a completely different set of components in the motherboard and reinstalled the battery. The bios chip (3017 bios) in question came right up so I feel better about that now. I’m getting ready to flash that bios chip back to the 502 bios.
I don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea about what I think of Asus writing a bios for the CH4E that supports the BD so I’ll explain.
I realize Asus isn’t required to write a bios to give support for the BD. For all I know maybe the 890 chipset has a real problem properly supporting it in such a way that BD is fully functional? Just saying that if the good people at Asus have the time and are willing to write a bios that will support the retail version of BD on the CH4E I would be thankful. I would like to continue using this motherboard under the BD if possible.
Yes, check the MSI 890FX boards. I'm trying to update AGESA code of 3017, but I also have no FX chip to test.
I used to mod NF2 bioses, but all I know about AMI and AGESA is that the code is located in 1B module. I know how to extract and put back in compressed, but nothing more I guess.
In Award bios AGESA is a separate module and it's easy to replace, but cpuid microcode table must be updated as well.
Yeah sorry mate, looks like it is just the 3017 BIOS. I asked the source and he said the following:
Any chance if anyone can try these settings please? I'd love to get bulldozer working on my CHIV - Don't want to switch to the dark side :(Quote:
ASUS say's it does.
You need to disable:
APM Master Mode
And set CPU PWM mode to Extreme.
The problem being that it won't post using the 3017 bios when the BD is installed. If I could get to the bios screen it would be a different story. I've tried this several times with the same result.
Sorry double post for some reason.
Anyway looks like we have hijacked this thread and I didn't intend to do that so maybe we should start a new thread for this.
Well they should otherwise they may have potential litigation on their hands! - It was their choice to promote the CHIV as Bulldozer ready (Retailers here in the UK marketed the CHIV as such due to their statements) and it was the main reason I bought one earlier this year.
You'll also notice they have taken down their pages promoting this - I still have the screenies though :)

MSI have delivered - i don't see why Asus can't.
If they don't I will definately be one of many who will be switching to something other than Asus - tbh the Asrock boards looks really nice now compared to the CHV

wow
That'll be for the CHV mate.
Got some good news if your of the patient type (I'm beginning to slide towards the dark side tbh!)

From ASUS:
HQ’s response is that due to tight resources there is going to be a delay in getting new BIOS versions out for older AM3 motherboards to support Bulldozer. This is mainly due to the launch of AM3+ and also socket 2011 which is just about to come out. Also they did not have an ETA of when they expect the new batch of BIOS files to be released.
This isnt good news. This is the same bs they feed us every time.
Does Asus ever plan to release a signed 64 bit driver for RAID use on the Crosshair V? One that's compatible with a standard Windows 7 installation?
0813 BIOS now available for M5A97 Evo (and presumably similar boards).
I wonder if this bios is good for those of us still on Thuban/Deneb, or if from now on, ASUS will be optimizing only for AM3+ CPUs?Quote:

You can use the SATA RAID driver available on AMD site:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...d_windows.aspx
It's showed as "SB8xx RAID Driver for Windows 7", but it can be safely installed on all SB7xx/8xx/9xx Southbridge based motherboards.
I used these drivers for a long time, in a RAID-5 configuration on my previous board (ASUSTeK M3A78-T, AMD 790GX/SB750 chipset).
Now I'm running my RAID on a discrete PCIe SAS card (see my signature), so I don't need them anymore.
The latest version of these AHCI RAID storport drivers (belonging to Catalyst 11.11) are reported as of version 3.3.1540.17.
In RAID package you'll find the latest array management software: AMD RAIDXpert.
I'm wondering the same, too. I'm still running on 0705...
does anyone know if the M5A79 Evo supports induvidual core control of BD? (as opposed to just being able to kill modules)
^
for the record, it does NOT :p
I don't see why it would matter, considering the gained performance is lost in 4 threads and extra OC headroom
Cos we like to play :p
some benchmarks may favour a 1 core / module situation.
it allows switching off a whole module currently
I've never had an issue, I just used the driver on my install disk...
In device manager the RAID controller is listed as
Yeah, but only some single thread programs benefit and only a small amount...programs using 2-4 threads will benefit as well but you lose approx 100-200 Mhz OC headroom which offsets the performance difference especially when you add the threads back. It seems it scales better though, especially in games that use up to 4 threads but scale no furtherQuote:

Anybody tried a 960T on a M5A97 board? I want to know if its worth updating to the latest bios or I should just return the board. 0705 doesn't recognize this chip.
Since the board doesn't boot and the cpu warning led is lit I'd say the cpu is not supported in 0705. I wouldn't have bothered posting if this was just a naming problem.
No, the ASUS M5/CHV series do not support 960T at all. This has been a known issue...
That's because it doesn't support the CPU, you should know already as it's not in the CPU Support list. All M4A/CH4 boards support the 960T though.
It's not supported at all on these boards...
That's just lovely. The only decent board is almost 50$ more. Thank you Asus.
Apparently my reading skill are not what they used to be and forum folklore doesn't really help:
From the M5A97 Pro compatibility page:
I could have gotten a dud that has all of the cores locked. :) Hopefully tomorrow when I'll be getting another AM3 cpu all this will be cleared.Quote:

I wonder DRAM ratio setting in BIOS of CH5F is not official support by CPU (over 1866 @ 200BCLK)
anyone try it ?
I guess no one knows it all, but 0402 is a pretty old bios.
Anyhow it appears I got a DOA board since the second CPU and a new set of ram gives me the same result. So much for asus and their great quality control. I hate that freakin' cpu_led.
@ beepbeep2: If you look real close you'll find that Zosma is supported on all of the 9xx boards and for a while now.
I had no problems with the ram @ 2133Mhz in the Crosshair V ( same settings as this board ) until the LAN and USB died and I RMA'd it, I'm still waiting for it to be replaced. Frankly I was disappointed with the V I've found the SABERTOOTH to be a far better board so far, when they finally replace it I'll use it in another machine on the network.
Thankyou
i just try myself i can select DDR 2400 without overclocking cpu bus

Got myself a 990x Evo on the way. Hoping this one works. :)
Finally! New bios for the Sabertooth, vers 0901 ....
Find it here:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/So...ERTOOTH_990FX/
I haven't tried it yet, don't have time tonight.
I'll flash it tomorow though. ;)
Also available for M5A99X Evo.
If you want to possibly unlock a 960T try the Biostar TA990FXE for 130usd.
I've a 960T in my CHV that runs fine. It does 4.3GHz on air, I can't successfully unlock it though.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2078376
It can almost run 4.5 and I can't get that stable. I'm not willing to use more voltage than that on air.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2079884
You should try a newer version of cpu-z because older ones don't report voltages accurately. I don't care so much about unlocking as long as my chip runs cold and stable at 4Ghz and 1.32v.
Bit of a Thread necro but here we go
Sabertooth 990FX
1090T @ 4Ghz
16Gb of Crucial Smart Tactical Tracers @ 1600 7-7-7-21
What do we think is better
Above or
CPU @ 4.3
RAM @ 1866 9-9-9-27
That ram should run 1866 8-8-8-24 easy Panther.
Otherwise for the CPU bit why would it matter? Changing the frequency to 4.3 is as easy as bumping the multiplier and voltage a little. (Provided the CPU is capable)
I am just testing it atm
The chip /boards seems a bit finicky now especially with the NB as I have it at 3Ghz at 1.3
I will have to try tomorrow to see if i can get 1866 cas 8
Will I see any real differences going to that from cas 7 1600?
Does anyone know why Asus doesn't include caching in their raid rom??
in last BIOS is issue with HT link at auto (for FX)...Only 2200 MHz than right 2600 MHz, so a bit lower performance :(, or u must manually change it :)
Is it normal, that the SB850 has worse performance than the intel P55? I noticed slightly longer boot times with my new Crosshair IV Formula, compared to my "old" P55-GD65...also the performance-score is lower than on the intel?
You need to be more specific as to how you loaded your chipset drivers if you need some help. There should be no practical difference in speeds. Need to know your motherboard #s, too.
And the title does say "ASUS - Official AMD 9xx Chipset Series Motherboard Support"
From my limited knowledge and experience, for best operation you should F6-load the AMD sata.inf with your BIOS set to 'AHCI'
I have a Crosshair IV Formula, running Win7 x64. The controller is in RAID-mode, installed the driver with F6-method from USB-memory during Windows-setup.
How about a CHIVF Bios!!!!
WTF? Not looking to jump ship, CHIVF is totally capable of running BD...4.8GHz for me day to day, but the rest is bull-ish! Lets get some real going!
Unfortunately noone from Asus cares anymore. It just need fix for turbo mode, cores control (on/off) and probably higher mem dividers.
The board even clocks memory fine, but seems we won't get the desired update.
PS: Oh, TurboEVO won't be updated as well.

+1 for that sabertooth update.
need croshair V version one bios update
Are you serious? Does that mean all Asus AM3+ motherboards that are not "R2.0" will not get an update to support Piledriver?
i just looked for crosshair V original NOTHING but crosshair V formula Z cpu is listed
UEFI builds with Vishera support are already posted for V1 990FX boards. 1605 or 1503 (depends on board model).
looks, AMD life will be again back this year here...FX Vishera is much better than old one.
Found it posted today - go to Asus's global site - don't know if this link will work or not.

Hi!
I just want ask if someone tried m5a97 rev 1.xx motherboards with new fx series. Asus have no support and techsupport give me no answer.
the stilt says me on finnish forum they will work without problems but i just want ask if someone have real experience?
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z.
After I updated the bios with 0901 and the Irog Firmware I shutdown the PC for a couple of minutes. After that I get the FF code no matter what I do. The led remains on DRAM led. I have try with ELPIDA BDBG , PSC 3GA, Hynix CFR,Hynix BFR IC , CPU Reset, clear cmos. The only code I get is FF. I don't have any video signal, I can't acces the bios.
Any suggestions
