Using each channel for one fan only is excessive too. If you wish uncommon setup, be prepared to pay more, imho simple as that.
Others should have no problem in using each channel for powering/regulating several fans on each without paying extra.

So far noting is done in this area because our programmer is focusing on the aquasuite 2012 at the moment and the reported bugs and problems for firmware updates. I guess there will nothing happen before the aquasuite is finished.
Thanks for responding Shoggy.
Is there definitely no other alternative then? From what I can tell hooking up 4 power adjusts would do the same job, but would be even more expensive.
There is no other way to add more fan channels.
@Shoggy:
Have I read somewhere that the PowerAdjust 2 needs to be flashed to firmware 1003 in order to use it with the AE5? Or I've dreamt it?
There is a new firmware available for the poweradjust 2 controllers. It is highly recommend to flash them when you want to use them with the aquaero. Flashing can be done with the current aquasuite.
Thanks for the reply Shoggy :)
Where do I find the firmware?
I have Aquasuite 4.69.00 installed, both the AE4 (haven't rigged the AE5 yet) and the PA2 connected via USB, but when I check for update via Aquasuite it says that the latest firmware available for the PA2 is "0"...
Please download aquasuite 4.72.00. When flashing the poweradjust make sure that only one device is connected if you own more than one poweradjust.
this looks really nice!....now if i can somehow afford it :p
Just updated aquastream to 4.72, got this "update" now :yepp:
http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/a...eamupdater.jpg
I know about the wrong update status when you install the latest version. We have not updated the XML file on the server since this update is only required for customers with an aquaero 5 AND poweradjust or multiswitch. If we would add this as a regular version everyone would download it, update their devices like zombies and then wondering why nothing has changed ;)
Alright, DHL is the worst way of sending stuff. Took a day off to receive my Aquaero... First their delivery man didnt even ring at my door - i got a packet from local post like 10 minutes before they say he "attempted the delivery" so i know it works. So they send me a SMS, not even a delivery notice, alright. The SMS tells me to phone to their support line to organize a new delivery. Alright. It's about 10 eurocents per minute, ok. So i go through their automated stuff and finally end up on "delivery notice". What i get there is an automated message that tells me that i dont have to call (THANK ME FOR PAYING THE CALL #?@!) and that i have to go on their website, dhl.fr to re-schedule a delivery.
I go there, track my order number, and here i am, nowhere i can schedule anything. I can put alerts, it works. Schedule, no. It's not the first time they fake a delivery attempt by the way, i took a day off at work JUST to be there to get my package, but nooo i bet they never stopped in my street. And my package is now stuck somewhere in a DHL depot in Lyon...
Alright back to the 10 cents/minute line, until i find a human operator...
German Post: Yes
DHL: No.
(edit) ha i won. Got someone at expeditions (not related) who did the job. Seems like they know their service is not working properly...
Man... I know that Aqua Computers had problems with the Aquasuite which caused delays with the 5 series but when I get told by people from their customer service department that I should have my item shipped in the beginning of April and then being told that it should ship out by the end of last week and it still not shipping is getting a tad bit disappointing.
Has anyone state side received theirs yet?
Is there any different which ship by DHL or Germany Post?
I have my AE5 being shipped on 20 April by DHL. Haven't receive so far.
I usually shipped parcel from UK to my country using DHL, it took only 3 days to arrive.
Btw I'm from Asia country.
Anyone have any experience about shipping duration from Aquacomputer?
@ohms: when you tell me your order number I can have a look. Most orders for PRO have been shipped, XT is a little bit behind and LT has not shipped so far because of the aquasuite which is not ready yet and a LT can not be used without it.
@nej: Deutsche Post AG (or call it Germany Post) is only responsible for envelopes and does not ship any parcels. DHL is a part of Deutsche Post AG and handles all the parcels. Within Germany you will not see much difference between both companies because you can do both things in the same post office but of course behind the scenes they go different ways ;)
Our parcels normally arrive the next day inside Germany, within 2-3 days in Europe and within 7-10 days outside Europe. I have also seen several shippings which take more than 14 days. A lot of time passes by because of customs or other things. Altogether it is pretty normal that your parcel has not arrived so far. I would have been VEEERY surprised when it arrives within 3 days.
received yesterday, still no chance to unbox it.
Thanks Shoggy for the clarification.
I think I mess up DHL Post and DHL Express after I make a phone call to my local DHL centre.
Parcel from UK to my country using DHL Express, yes it take only 3 days to arrive. :)
I'm still happy, at least I knew my parcel are on it's way.
@YoooH
May I know how long it take from the date u get ur email notification until u receive the parcel?
Because my country are close to yours. :)
And I'm glad to hear that u receive your parcel.
Hey Shoggy,
Can I use this with ramplex copper?
http://shop.aquacomputer.de/images/p...ages/26002.jpg
How much cooler would it be if I mount it with my ramplex.
http://shop.aquacomputer.de/images/p...ages/26023.jpg
Any updates on when sidewinder will be carrying them? question was asked by another member around the 16th with an answer of "soon"
Shoggy, are you able to comment on this?
@YoooH: not quite sure if I got your question right. The additional plates are exactly the same to the ones that already come with the block - so no difference here. If you mean the RAM module itself I can not tell you any numbers since this is so much different from module to module.
@eKirts: you will have to ask them yourself. I can not comment on such things.
How are the XT orders coming up? I ordered mine in the beginning of march...
Thanks for answering everybody so quickly Shoggy
I would say XT and PRO is pretty even now. We shipped a lot of XT devices today.
Any updates on the software progress Shoggy?
Programmer thinks mid May.
Shoggy .... maybe you can help me here. I received my 3 Poweradjust II's and the face plate. In attempting to mount them I ran into a problem. Namely I couldn't figure out how. I know, sounds dumb. Anyways, in the picture I show the side plate (for drive bay mounting, between the face plate and the Poweradjust II. As you can see, on both sides, this places the Poweradjust II's at an angle and overtightening could torque the PCS. Also, this makes the little flat head screw barley engage the standoff it threads in to. Finally, it pulls the light pipe farther away from the front plate. Am I missing something? I would think you would simply enclose a couple more standoff at are shortened, by the thickness of the side plate, and also a couple of longer flat head screws for more thread engagement.
Thanks,
John
Shoggy .... sort for yet another post, but on the AE5, I installed the waterblock and both the screws that came with the default heatsink and with the waterblock (they are all plastic) bottom out in the waterblock before tightening. I really didn't expect this. Thoughts? Also, the waterblock "rocks around" a little on the chips. I would have thought there would have been a little more support points in the design. I'm afraid that any torque what-so-ever on the fittings on the waterblock will make the seating bad between the waterblock and the chips.
Thanks,
John
jcrouse, you need spacers for the bay mount. If you look at the product photos you can see they use nylon washers.
The front cover comes with 16 M3 washers. You have to place them here:
http://www.abload.de/img/poweradjust_x3zu84.jpg
On the outer left and right you won't need them! This way the controllers are aligned to the front cover correctly :)
Finally a North American distributor.........
Looks like performance PCs now has the Pro model in stock
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=30623
Sidewinder is shooting for two weeks until they have the XT in stock... according to Gary
:)
@ Shoggy
What with IR Booster?
Some way to extend area of IR keyboard?
Thinking of XT version but my Aquaero will be hide behind case door and if there is no way to keep keyboard working I will choose PRO version..
I know lots of people were looking out for availability via Sidewinder.com, Sidewinder should (as per info on their site) get the Aquaero 5 in stock during the month of May, imo the prices are pretty competitive.
XT - http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/aq4usbfawhwi.html - US$190.00
PRO - http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/aq4usbpufanc.html - US$140.00
Due to my scheduling needs (needed it for May 16th) I purchased via Aquatuning.us, Delivery was fast, receipt within 2 days.
I purchased a Pro + Power Adjust 2 + Black Faceplate + Heat Sink. I hope I didn't have to purchase a separate cable to connect the Power Adjust 2 to the Pro...
If I have (2) PowerAdjust 2 where do I plug the second one into the AE5 XT? According the the manual, the PA2 can only plug into the Aquabus 2 channel "high" which there is only 1, the other is low.
Is there a way to daisy chain the PA2 together?
Also, WTB PA2 manual in english please.
@pociej: th IR-Booster will be available later. It only transmits data so i can not be used as receiver. The only way to extend the range of the keyboard would be to relocate the IR sensor of the aquaero to another place. It is only soldered with three points to the board and can be accessed easily.
@ohms: the poweradjust has two aquabus connectors so you can connect the second controller to the first one. Before you connect them to the aquaero you must change the aquabus of ID of one controller. To do so connect one of them via USB, run the current aquasuite and change the ID from 50 to 51 for example. Save the settings into the device. This step is necessary because otherwise the aquaero will not be able to differ between both controllers.
Shoggy- I got the optional heatsink with the Pro version, I was wondering if i could use metal screws instead of the stock ones that came with the heat sink, Will metal ones affect the AE5?
Sidewinder has them listed now.
@ximius: you can use more than one aquaero with the aquasuite. The software differs between them by their serial numbers.
@kdmaka: it is possible but be careful because you can get a much higher pressure with them where the plastic screws would slip in the thread.
Fingers crossed my XE5 PRO should be here with me tommorow. My first time playing with such a beast! probably an overkill fan controller lol as thats probably all I'll use it for! :)
Just out of curiosity - why the silver faceplate? More users have black cases - I have to wait till next week to pickup the black plate
Thats understandable then, as I note like shoggy states they are trying to keep the price down. From a consumer perspective it would be better though that different versions can be procured (already with the plates fitted) - £109 (PRO version) is still quite high a price (trust me when I say I usually NEVER skimp on IT stuff lol) so the option to have either faceplate would be a bonus (as standard). Next month I'll get the remote control - overall I've always preffered push buttons as opposed to capacitive so preferr the PRO model (but will end up buying all the other goodies : )
reading through this thread I note I can use my Liang DDC pumps RPM signal through this too! - awesome, now its not just an overkill fan controller for me lol
Just hope it can power 3 x Scythe GT (1450's) and the three standard corsair 140mm fans.....
Remote access through my phone would be awesome - leave my PC on at home and keep an eye on it whilst out - ensuring the wife doesn't burn the house down lol
Sorry for being a noob shoggy  - Where do we find the Aquasuite 2012 software and the latest firmware please? - I can't make much out of the forums - only a little bit is in english.
thanks in advance,
Aquasuite 2012 will be later..
Could have sworn I read somewhere (de forums) software is due out last or this friday? Please confirm shoggy, thanks
It's still sat there looking pretty in the box - my faceplate got shipped today so will get to play with it tommorow. If software is due this friday I might just wait to configure it.....
zoomee: i'm guessing from mention of faceplate that you have Pro or XT version. While less convenient but you can probably start using it right away with configuring using buttons on AA or on remote. For panel&button-less AA5 LT configuring software is essential though.
My goodies arrived today in Australia direct from Aquaero!
Aquaero 5 XT
Waterblock
6 x poweradjust 2 ultras (for 27 fans)
2 x poweradjust 2 mounting plates
Relay connector
Inline and threaded water temp sensors (for cpu in/out temps and loop temps)
RGB led (for the hell of it!)
1M USB (to reach MB header in massive MM extended ascension case)
2 x tubemeters level meters (for koolance 2 x 452x2 res)
AND extra remote (DOH! didnt realise the XT came with one!)
Thought I ordered a black plate for the XT but its not on the order so I must have stuffed it up.
Cable management nightmare in the MM extended ascension about to reach level 10 difficulty!
New build thread to follow!!!!!!!!!!!
extra remote is funny err :)
Just received mine..
Now im wondering if it can support these fans just w/ heatsink. The PWM will be using for MCP35x PWM singal only. Now just left 3 fan port.
Fans : Enermax Cluster
120mm x 10 0.4A case fan
80mm x 3 0.25A case fan
120mm x 18 0.4A Rad fan

Thats this friday - fingers crossed :)
Does anyone have any tips or know of anything I can do to keep the clock from resetting every time I turn off my system other than plugging in the USB cable?
I'm using this for an external box - and every time you shut down and boot it again the thing sits on the damn date screen with a 2009 date, and 0:00:00am. Annoying! No button battery for storing/running the clock? I'm darn glad it saves your settings without a battery. Very nice.
Also, just a side note :P I can't help but think the PRO looks better than the XT. I bought the XT and am not sure how much I 'love' the red LED's behind the capacitive buttons and the slightly smaller and upper left justified display screen.
To Dearest Shoggmeister :)
I have the Aquaero 5 XT and 6x PA2ultras (as per post above)
I understand I have to upgrade the PA2U firmware to 1003 which worked fine and I have also tried to get just one of the PA2's to be recognised at the default 50 ID address but I dont understand how to access it in the menu to set it up?
Are the additional PA2's supposed to automagically appear in the menu or do I have to add each PA to the -user interface>>information pages>>page#>select information to be shown|
When I attempted to add a PA2 as fan 5 to the display settings it shows up when I flick through the pages but i dont think its getting any readings from the controller.
I have everything connected correctly as Ive triple checked that im connecting the AE5 high speed aquabus to the aquabus port on the PA2 and connecting 12v molex to PA2.
The PA2 also shows up correctly in the old aquasuite as working when on USB.
Thanks so much. If you want me to go to the aquaero forums for support I understand and you can just tell me to get on over there!
Cheers:shrug::shrug::shrug:
If anyone is interested in an Aquaero 5 XT, PM me. Holding out for a PRO, plus accessories - fits better looks wise with my build. Purchased on May 9th, arrived yesterday ( have receipt ).
@zoomee: a first version of the aquasuite 2012 should be available this Friday.
@Phatboy69: if you have ordered the black cover but it was not in the parcel AND is also not listed on your invoice you got a partial delivery because these covers are out of stocks since a while. You will get it automatically with a padded envelope when it is available again. If the cover is listed on your invoice, but is missing, than you should get in touch with us.
@chorner: the aquaero has no battery or buffer to run the clock when you power down the system completely. Normally the aquaero gets power through USB even when the PC is turned off - might be depend on your mainboard or BIOS settings. All other settings are easy to save because they do not change when the PC is off ;) With the aquasuite 2012 it will be easy to sync time and date. It is also very likely that we will offer a tool or system service which does this automatically.
@Phatboy69: your poweradjust should be available as 5th fan channel. You will not read the word poweradjust anywhere because it fully integrates to the aquaero as another fan channel. When a poweradjust is connected via aquabus (high speed port) it will appear automatically in the menu structure. There is no need to setup anything to get it working with the aquaero.
Is there anything connected to the PA2 and running? Otherwise you will not see any data in the aquaero.
@@SHoggy - You just beat me to it lol - Thanks for the update mate - looking forward to the software suite ;)
@@ Chroner Yeah even though I wanted the remote - I still went for the XT model (preferring the solid looks). Got it all setup and yes it works without the software suite. However, its VERY fiddly (what with all the options) to setup - entering alphanumerics is a nightmare lol with just three buttons!.
Anyone looking to change the front panel for black should have an allen key to hand as one isn't supplied with the front panel. Slightly dissapointed with the front panel in that it had a bit sticking out (which protrudes out of the edge of the main cutout for the display). Also could have done with something to protect the actual LCD - I can see my kids breaking it in a couple of days :(
I also note the options for the XT model appear at the bottom of the screen - even though one doesn't have buttons to press to select them options.
Using 1010 firmware (stock) - got it hooked to USB too. Awesome control of the fans - Is it possible to use it to control the fans using the onboard sensors from the mainboard? i.e. CPU temp = 45Degrees = 85% Fan?
I don't like using temp sensors - leave a ghastly look inside the PC - would rather use the onboard motherboard sensors....
External software sensors come later and will not be available with the first version of aquasuite 2012. The firmware of the aquaero already has some functions for such sensors. So far it is likely that we will use the tool Open Hardware Monitor for it. This program is open source so we can build the necessary communication protocol between the PC and aquaero around it.
By the way: using the CPU temperature control for direct fan control is a pretty bad idea. Let's say you start a large program which sets around 100% load to the CPU for a few seconds. Well, the CPU temperature will go up immediately but there is absolutely no need to raise the speed of the fans for that because it takes a MUCH longer time before the water temperature will react to this.
@shoggy: hmmm, I guess I might have to run a cable from the external rad box, and plug it into a standard USB port. Any idea if you plan to provide such a cable, or does anyone know of one I might be able to get a hold of? I guess I could always try to splice one on my own but... would be nice to have it sync the date, or at least save it on power down of the rad box :P
Got my packages today, PA2 Ultra, Aqua Pro, Heat Sink and Black faceplate!!!
Can't wait to assemble these guys.
@ Shoggy ... Is there a direction for the flow meter or will either direction work? I was expecting to see a flow arrow like a fan has.
Thanks,
John
Thanks Shoggy, i got the first 3 PA2's working and I can now see this is going to take a while to setup, test and install!
I know this isnt the place to report bugs but FYI.
A slight anomaly I noticed is the PA2's have trouble reporting the correct RPM signal. The AE5 fan controller with exact same programmed settings manages to display correct RPM though.
The PA2 reports 2500-2800RPM on the AE5 display page when set at 30% power when it is actually about 500rpm. It is tracking the controller power/temp curve I set for it though, but just isnt measuring and reporting the RPM pulses properly. Sometimes it will jump around a bit and very occasionally show the correct speed but it usually just displays 2800rpm. I guess the Aquabus might be susceptible to noise introduced to the bus, probably from the Fans LEDs?? At least the actual RPMs are consistent with the programmed curve.
I can replicate this on all PA2s with identical settings.
Is it necessary to for me to use the USB cable with a PA2 for Aquasuite 2012 control and monitoring purposes IF the PA2 is connected to a Aquaero 5 Pro via high speed aquabus and the Aquaero is connected to the motherboard via USB?
BTW: Looking forward to the Aquasuite 2012 release.
Can Aquaero 5 track flow from flow meter connected to PA2?
No the PA2's are recognised by the AE5 as extra controllers and sensors. Thats the whole point of the aquabus so you can dasiy chain upto 6 PA2's off the AE5 and only have 1 USB.
As im learning myself now in setup and testing... its just as well, thera are so many power cables and fan cables as it is. It would be a nightmare if everything had to be connected to USB.
Im still learning the setup myself but you have to assign inputs and outputs in the settings.. its a little complicated but once you do it once its easier for the rest.
You have to make sure you have a unique address id for each PA2 between 50-55 and upgrade PA2 to firmware 1003 for starters.
I guess you will also need to add a page to the interface to view the flowmeter as well as the ones on the default screen are for the AE5 flow meters i think...
As i said its a little complicated.
I learnt how to set up the AE5 by just connecting 1 fan and trying to get it to appear in the page view.
I have 2 flow meters im going to setup myself so later tonight If im successful Ill let you know how I go.
For now im just running the AE5, 6x PA2s and temp/flow sensors externally outside the case until I figure it all out.
(well except for the flow sensors which I fitted a while ago in anticipation of the AE5 but not electrically connected -the cables will reach my desk though due to my setup with case the MM extended ascension horizontal MB layout)
I can even access USB headers on the MB without getting on hand and knee. :)
I have only 1 PA2,
I had done configuration for 3x temp sensor, 2 groups of fans and PA2, but can't set this flow meter..
Anyway thanks, will try something else..
Overall I'm really quite impressed after have a quick play yesterday - interface is intuitive to use (if you know what your doing unlike me lol!). Numpty here bought a 1/4" temp monitor thinking I could just replace the XSPC top res fill port - lol, it's too small! - I'll get a proper flow and temp setup once I get bored and have time to take the loop apart.
@@ Shoggy - I understand now about raising fan speed when water temps rise - I'm too use to air cooling ;) thanks for the heads up
eek! - On the Fan monitoring screens - one of them is displaying a temp of 69Degrees C! - I havn't connected any temp sensors - is this correct? i.e. Temp of the vrm for that channel? sorry for being a noob
Hey guys, I would like to compare VRM temperatures, I'm running a fan at 40% power and my VRM is running ~75C using the heat sink.
On that channel i have two Yate Loon High-Speed-D14SH-12
Its supposed to be rated at 6w i.e.0.5A each
@Phatboy69: we had a similar problem with another customer. Below a specific voltage some fans do not generate a clean rpm signal anymore which leads to weird rpm values. The way the PA2 and AE5 reads out the rpm is different so it is also normal that for example the AE5 will provide a normal value while the value from PA2 is messed up. The AE5 will get even better on this with the next firmware because we added another filter for muddy rpm signals.
Here is an example for a fan that we analyzed with an oscilloscope:
http://www.abload.de/img/nbpk1_abge4.png
Looks like a clean signal at first but it is not. If you take a closer look at the end of the wave from the center you can see a another small wave behind. When we zoom into this area you will get this:
http://www.abload.de/img/nbpk1_buecm.png
This little second wave is causing all the trouble because it generates another impulse for the rpm value. That is the reason why you get such a huge rpm value.
So, nothing wrong with both devices. It is just the fan which is not able to generate a clean rpm signal if the voltage is too low.
@Paradoxxx: If you use the PA2 with the AE5 via aquabus you don't have to connect the PA2 via USB. Everything can be done through the AE5. The PA2 integrates like a 5th (6th, 7th, ...) fan channel.
@pociej: Yes, that is possible so in total you could have 8 flow sensors. Which flow sensor are you using and which tab do you exactly mean?
@zoomee: this is the temperature control of the voltage regulators. If the temperature becomes to high the speed will be set to 100% so the voltage regulator can cool down. Afterwards your settings will be loaded again. If the temperature still goes up the fan channel will be turned of to avoid damages on the AE5 controller. With the next firmware the overheat monitoring will be changed so it can allow larger loads.
@Paradoxxx: you should wait for the next firmware because of changes that we did to the monitoring. Comparing it now is pretty useless in my opinion.
Very very unlikely because the CPU on the aquaero 5 has much more processing power, also the programming structure is different.
Shoggy & Phatboy69: "some fans" with such problems are particular models or few particular bad fans of worth quality in batch? If there are several fans on one channel, maybe it's worth to change from which one rpm signal is fed?
2Phatboy69: again, if it's several fans on one channel, and you use some kind of Y wire splitter for interconnecting fans, are you really sure that tach signal wire is connected from only one of fans on that channel? I've heard before that with some DIY wire splitters where user that made them wrongly connected together yellow tach wires from all the fans on channel, then rpm proper reporting got fscked up aswell.
@Shoggy,
I have AC High Flow flow sensor.
Tab which I mean is: Menu -> Sensors -> Flow Sensors.
When i connect flow meter to PA2 don't have any information about flow..
All sensors says "0" like when no one is connected. So temporaly I connected flow meter to Aquaero.
And i saw difference in calibrate..
On Your site in flow meters description right value for calibrate is 169 but pre definied value for High Flow is 167..
And what with Aquasuite 2012? :)
Is there a specific flow direction for the AE flow meter? If so, which way (how about a pic)? I was expecting to see an arrow like a fan but see nothing.
Thanks,
John
Thanks Shoggy - Whats the maximum temperature for the VRM's before it starts putting fans back up to 100% please? Also whats the absolut maximum before damage starts occuring to the AE5.
Also - Still looking out for the Aquasuite software ;)
@churchy: I don't think it has something to do with the quality. Every fan will start to have tis problem with low voltage. For example the fan from the screenshots is rated with a start voltage of 4,5V while we have seen the problems below 4,4V. So there is nothing wrong with the technical specs provided by the manufacturer.
@pociej: both problems are known. There is a scaling bug which causes a value of 0 if you try to read out the flow sensor through a PA2. The calibration value of 169 is correct. Both things are already fixed and will also come with the new firmware next week. Also the aquasuite 2012 has been delayed to next week.
@jcrouse: it does not matter. You can use both directions.
@zoomee: at 85°C the output will be set to 100% and at 95°C the output will be deactivated.
Shoggy,
2 more questions..
New version of Heatsink is more better?
My VRM's are close to 70*C.
And can I turn on fans when the computer is turned off?
No Aquasuite till next week
@pociej: it provides some better cooling but the real magic will be done by the new firmware. You can not use the fans when the PC is off because the aquaero needs 12V from the PSU to control fans etc.
FYI i was testing a single fan (a couple of different ones the same brand actually) and it happens below about 6v. They still run fine down to about 4v they just don't report rpm properly at that range. Since Im using power and not rpm to control them they work just fine. Nice that with the Aquaero we can choose either rpm or power to control the fan speeds!
BTW 400rpm is lower than I would normally operate the fans anyway so it shouldnt be a problem.
Im about to assemble it all after a bit more testing this afternoon.
Damn there's a lot of cables once you hook a few PA2s and sensor up.
If I wasnt so damn impatient I would make some custom power and aquabus cables from the parts I got by shortening them all and doing a daisy chain power cable. Maybe when I get it all setup and running properly I'll order some connectors and redo it when I do the rest of the cable cleanup and sheathing.
