yeah the rails are completely diferent when they are loaded.
the 12v rail on my old 250W psu was like 10v without any load and jumped to 13.5v with a cd writer plugged to it... the 5v was exactly the opposite, highly overvolted to around 6v without load and only 4.8v under load...
i bought another one :D
It's the only brand i buy now. Every wattage. I have a 300 watt 120mm version running my duallie rig, Swapped out a 550 antec that the rails were low on!!
Rock stable on a forton 300!!! The fortron 300 weights 1 pound more than the antec550!!!

Just got my Sparkle FSP530 from newegg today. Its heavy and quiet. Rails are at 12.22, 5.134, and 3.36 under load according to asus probe. I'll measure it from the connector when I turn the pots.
Things I didn't like: one of the cables was twisted with another internally in the psu(fixable), the Sparkle label is upside down, and the sleeving on the main atx plug is very hard and difficult to move.
Things I like: quiet, heavy, adjustable pots, stable rails, price, and two separate molex plugs on their own line.
Well worth the $77 dollars IMO.
Uhmmm Lets stick to min 500 UPS or so... I don't believe most of xtreme'ers will be finfe with taxing UPS like 350VA... (keep in mind, this doesn't mean 350W.... just 350VA...... and ur PSU isn't 100% efficient either). Who here runs 300W PSU anyway?Quote:

Much heavier than my old dead ttgi520.... it's quiet and just has this "feel" to it, I don't know, the feeling that it's carved out of a solid piece of unobtainium... just gives me the feeling it's nice kit.
I haven't even opened the lid on mine yet, as it is giving me 12.20/5.13/3.40
The housing is shiney, not quite chrome-plated, but something shiney. I'm going to remove the stickers from mine and use rubbing compound on it and see what happens.
So in general, it's a must have piece of gear that gives the buyer a "satisfied and proud" sort of feel.

Fortron Source are the only supplies I use and put in my family, friends, and co-worker's machines. :up:
I got the Sparkle FSP530-60GNA and it's pretty much the same...same packaging and look...just doesn't have the SATA connectors and some other extras. But it was $5 less than the Fortron :)
I love my fortron 530.
It's one peice of hardware I don't see myself upgrading for a long while.

yeah this is a good PSU. I have my +3.3 up to +3.6v no problem on my K8NSpro. I need to buy another one for my new main rig, cause this TTGI 520 is just to noisy.

While we're talking about adjusting the rails, I don't mean to go off of the subject, but I really like what OCZ did on the Powerstream. The adjustable pots, on the outside that light up in a different color to tell you they arent stable...:slobber:
I know how to measure 5v and 12v through a molex ... but how can you measure the 3.3v line, without using the ATX connector on the mobo ?

Well - largely due to this and another thread I sold my Antec Tru 430 and purchased one of these Fortron 530s.
Unlike my Antec out of the box the 5/12 rail was a little low on the Fortron measured by a multimeter.
So tonight I popped her open and booted up. I was a little worried about either damaging the PS or possibly myself. Looking inside I was really confused.
I could see the pots but there were no blue, purple, or green circles around them?
Thats when I realized that this was not a picture! (I've been drinking quite a bit)
Anyways I adjusted the 5/12 pot to my liking and put her back together. Couldn't have been easier!

Another happy customer. The fortrons dont have a lot of flash to them, but they got it where it counts. Like i've said. My 300 watt fortrons are heavier than antec and ttgi 550's.
I just got a Fortron "AURORA" series 350watt with 120mm fan in it. This one came in a Dark Blue, which wasnt in the pic. Im guessing fortron is starting to dress stuff up. I'll post some pics of it later. It even has SATA HD power like the 530's.

Got the PSU today (thanks again charlie).
After paying an additional 20€ (taxes and stuff), I opened the box.
I was already impressed by the weight of this PSU. It feels like quality components are used on this one.
Turned the back switch from 115 > 230V and hooked it in my system.
I was really anxious to see how it would compare to my Tagan 380W, which BTW is an excellent PSU and has serve me for almost 1 year without any problems. Very solid PSU and also very recommendable.
Voltages are about the same as my Tagan, very good.
My Tagan doesn't have any pots inside, I'm glad this one has.
It looks like a very solid PSU, like many others have said before in this topic.
The only remark I have to make is :
- has only 6 molex connectors. I'd liked to have at least 8 standard. But I have some splitters laying around so that problem is cleared.
- fans are pretty loud, compared to the Tagan, which are whisper quiet and inaudible. Gonna replace them with some quieter ones.
Big thanks to all, who have bought, tested and recommended this PSU and specially to charlie, for shipping it so fast to me. Thx buddy. :toast:

Did anyone ever get hold of a Fortron 550W? The converter cables (to convert 24pin to 20pin) are easily available over here, so i'm happy to give it a go...
It seems Fortron are really on the ball with their psus, so i presume it'll be another class unit...

The 530w rating is at 25 degrees. (room temp)
It only puts out 455w at 50 degrees. (operating temp)

No one needs 530 watt,s using my Watt meter, My vapo OC'd to over 4ghz 9800 Pro, 2 raptors, my whole rig isnt even pulling 300watts under full load.Quote:

the 24pin adapter sure helps coz future mobos will have them, and it complies with ATX v2.0 specs.
and the fortron 550W has better rails than the fortron 530W.
so just grab a 24 - 20 pin adapter and a fortron 550W like me, and u have a PSU which is even better than the fortron 530W. It also has PFC, which is not much of a advantage to have, but it helps the PSU run cooler, so all's good.

just fine. And the 400w unit gets me up above 250fsb

It also has active PFC. Which isn't really needed here in the
States from what I understand.
I thought the 550w had both the 4pin and 8pin aux connectors
like the 300w and 400w Fortron units I've installed. Could

It's worthy to note the 530w unit has higher max load
specs on the +3.3v and +5v rails. The =12v are both 18a.
530w - 3.3v=28a, 5v=40a, 12v=18a
550w - 3.3v=27a, 5v=29a, 12v=18a

According to the Fortron websyte the 530w unit
has higher amp specs on the 3.3v and 5v rails.
Active PFC helps it run cooler? That is always good. :)
It's also worty to note the 550w is rated 500w at 50c where the
530w is rated 455w at the same temp.
However, the 530w overcurrent protection limits are higher
than the 550w.
Overcurrent protection:
530w - 3.3v = 60a, 5v = 58a, 12v = 35a
550w - 3.3v = 45a, 5v = 45a, 12v = 20a
Just for sheets and giggles, here's the specs on the
Fortron 300w (FSP300-60ATV) for comparrison
overcurrent protection:
300w - 3.3v = 70a, 5v = 60a, 12v = 28a
Remember that the 550W has 2 12V lines, so 40A total.

I bought a Refurb Fortron 530 PSU from newegg for peanuts
And yes of course I was happy when I got it and it worked like a dream
then the Overclock bug bit my butt and found myself frequently playing with the 3.3V pot since I had the NF7-S then with the Vdimm mod that depended completley on your 3.3V voltage( Higher 3.3V= better Vdimm mod voltage)
Bt unfortunately I ended up spoling my 3.3V pot it became very sensitive and my system would shut off due to high fluctuations

I even posted this on the Trading forum thinking tech savvy would buy it and fix it up
Alas no one replied ....then I belive it was Cartmenea who said I should pop out the spoiled pot and fix it with a better one
So i tried to do that ...screw up was that I didn;t know the original value of the broken pot
So I took a gamble and hooked up my 50K ohm pot
and guess what it worked ....altho I had to fine tune it to get the right value
and now runnin my machine with 3.55V

I ordered one 550 too for my main rig today.
Don´t know but i think this puppy might be better than the Topower 520W based PSUs.
Either way any of the two whould be adequate for me i think :).

I'm in a bind with my PSU right now. Basically, the 12v and 3v lines I ran with my epox board aren't acceptable on the abit ic7 max3. I have adjusted them and adusted them...........and adjusted them for a couple hours in small increments but can't find the default setting for the pots. By now I've turned them several revolutions to the left and right.
Is there maybe a pin or something to reset them?

I doubt the pots have anything like that. Is there a chance
they had some plastic on them to prevent movement when you
first started? If so maybe you can tell from the broken edges where they were originally.
If not you may have to adjust them under load with a MM and try to get them
back to specs.
well just found out the pots are marked with a green line so in theory I should be able to line these up with the overvoltage ones and be at default settings. we'll see.
this is what is being read by speedfan and sisoft, as I dont have a DMM to see what the actual rails are. so what do u think? so do u think these should be ok for my 24/7 use (gaming, overclock, web browsing, etc)?

too all those experiencing weird readings on your rails -
I was gonna send back a refurb sparkle 530 for the same reason. You absolutely MUST be running a full compliment of stuff when you are measuring those lines. that means sufficiant lodas on all three rails. It will boot up with jsut about anything, but you will get some weird readings, like I was always getting 3.3/11.3/5.2 etc and could not get the 12v over 12 EVER.
key is to give it a good load, like with all your stuff, and the PSU side off. Boot into bios, take your readings, turn everything off and make minor adjustments to the rails between reboots.
Essentially I can run whatever I want now, best $55 shipped ever.
The picture on newegg shows a 4pin, yet the wiring diagram on the FSP Group website doesn't:

I finally got the OCZ 520W powerstream after much debate over it and the fortron for almost half it's price. Selling point for me atleast was the easy access to the pots but i think i'll buy one anyway for the girlfriend's computer and see for myself which one works best for my situation.
As for the zippy that's a nice PS but WOW that's expensive :slobber:
perhaps I should have been more clear -
when I said boot into bios and take your readings, I did not meant to read them from bions, but rather through a molex atx connector like everyone recommends. Booting into bios jsut allows you to get true representations of voltages which you only get with proper loads on all the rails.
I have a fortron 350w that does not need to be hooked to anything at all to give accurate readings/tweakings of its rails, but this 530w requires a bunch of stuff to be drawing juice to be at all accurate. infact I think my unit was a refurb because if you test the rails with nothing hooked up, the 12v line is waaaaay out of spec. heck I almost sent it back myself.
getting real clean power from it now, in fact the 3.3v line modded to 3.7v is powering my new 2x512mb bh-5 to 270fsb with more head/voltage room and nary a crash or hiccup. Im sure the other psus are quite good butone would have to turn m,y arm quite painfully to get me to switch from fortron. they just rock. Ild love to see a modular PSU from them!
tronik, what exactly is your bios reading your 12v and 5v rail at?
I run mine at around 12.1-12.5 and 5.1-5.15. cant remember which. its the 3.3v I am overvolting the crap out of. ur cpu and vid card get the 12/5v, I dont want to anger them. mem seems to tolerate high volts alot better.
I just built a new Dual xeon rig. for the hell of it i used my fortron Aurora 300 watt in it. with a pair of 2.8ghz Xeons @ 3.65ghz each. running fine for the last 24 hours, I didnt even have to crack the case on the fortron and adjust the rails, they are dead on!!!!
According to my KillaWatt Meter. the duallie Xeon rig is pulling 235 watts. Again no one's computer uses 500 watts.
if your rails are too high, will u be able to tell by ur system acting weird every now and then, or is it more like one day of all sudden something could burn out?
several options.
Caps could burst
mosfets could burn up
diodes may die
IC's could burn, resistors may burn, etc etc etc etc etc...
Realistically it isnt that likey though ;)
On the overvoltage pots which way does which? Does turning it to the left raise or lower the limit. Also, is just the far left of the three large pots the OV, and the pair on the right the fans or are they all OV pots. I read through 11 pages here and most people feel the two on the right affect the fans but I have cold air running thru my rig so I can't test that theory. just curious and thanks in advance for any help/answers. Can't say enough how happy I am with this baby under the hood. Runs my infinity without a hiccup.

Thanks for the link. I've read that one and they only say don't touch them and just assume they are overvoltage. My rig doesn't shut down I'm just curious as I did move one mistakenly once and put it back in the same general area. Thanks anyways :toast:
