they r square bro, im 99% sure.. look at the photo..

I did look at the photo, I mentioned that in my post. I mainly wanted to know what he used to attach them (if not the stock white sticky stuff on the bottom of the sinks). So while he was at it, he could also confirm they are square since as I said before, it is hard to tell if it 2 square sinks next to each other or longer rectangle sinks. Thanks though.
edit: I love how cool these cards run. I use a CM 830 sTacker Evo with the 4 fan side panel so it is always getting cool air fed to it.
another edit: My GPU and q8400 both run at 42 degree idle. One of my older GPUs (8800gt) ran at like 75 degrees idle. This GTX460 runs less then that at full load! Technology is effing sweet
Im sure they come with some 3m thermal something that is supposed to be really great to hold them on.. But i might be mistaken. im sure he will chime in

Yey! Finally I got my GTX 460! Its a EVGA GTX 460 768Mb SC, and so far I tested 910Mhz for the core and 1920 for Mems with 1.087v.
Beside of that, how can I unlock the voltage to set it up like poparamiro done? It will be really helpful! Another thing. I Im testing the stability with MSI Afterburner, how much time I should run it or what program I should run to see if it is stable?
Tomorrow I will post some screens, right now I have little time.
@poparamiro
...is that a ref card? Any mods on it?
^^ +1 At 1.21v ambient must be extremely low and/or ac blowing on the rig.
Ambient ~20c and voltage ~1.32v
BIOS Mod will get you up to 1.21v! post your bios and I"ll fix it for ya. or go donate at http://www.mvktech.net/ and mavke will send you nibitor 5.8 and you can do all the bios mods you want
Got a Gigabyte 1GB OC and it's pretty cool ...

Works like a charm on games
Thanks dude! How can I get my Bios so I can post it to you? And after modificating it, how I can put it into my vga so it will work? Im like a totally noob with that kind of things.
BTW, I will really love to donate but, its end of the month, I have no money left and in this week bankers are not going to work, so I will probably pay my salary next week :shakes:
Anyway, please tell me what to do and I will inmediatly post my Bios! Thank you so much Crazy!!!:clap::clap:
Sorry I missed the post, those are the Enzotech ramsinks, they stick very well with the tape that comes on them. It took 8 ramsinks per card.
Yes they are sqaure, each ramsink has 5 rows of pins. to make them fit I had to cut one row of pins off 4 of the ram sinks. I believe they are the 14x14mm ramsinks.
This is about my limit with 1.087. 940 cause display driver crash before Proxycon was complete. Pretty impressed with this thing esp for a 192-bit 768MB.

^Nice score for a single card
Thanks. Gonna try to squeeze out 25K then submit it to the Bot.
heres a MSI 460 HAWK bios that opens it up to 1.21v in NVI use ab for the rest all the way up to a card frying 1.35v+ if you want.
I'd keep it under 1.25v for benching more if you want at your own risk thuo...
all else in bios is same as stock.

Thanks cowie
np but i think only for 460hawk not tested on any other card.
you guys with hawks for more then 1.21v that ab gives you if you dont want to flash you can still get more with using nvI for 1.08 then add 100mv for up to 1.28-9ish but BE CAREFULL!!
I did kill two cards with this trick but under 1.26ish you should be ok.
after post up some scores/results
anyone know how to get rid of slow cold issue on 460 hawk?
now that the msi 450/460 contest is over i'd like any of the pros to please share results/mods/tricks if you can
thanks
Ah thanks for clarifying...
MSI Cyclone testing, when I'll finaly find out how to adjust voltage above 1.1 i hope for better score :)

Holy hell, 5ghz on that 950...thats impressive
Indeed. Cooling?
Most likely water or ln2 ..
The clocks on that Cyclone are very standard for any card with 1.1v. You will likely find beyond 1.1v won't net you many gains.
Picked up another gtx460 today, Nvidia GeForce brand. 52c max in furmark after a couple minutes oced to 800core and 2000memory 1.0v, VRM area still gets real hot to the touch though. Have to remove the cooler to take the shroud off, will try it later and use the rest of these ramsinks on the VRM's.

^ Nice clocks, which brand?
I gotta move to 1GB cards as I knew would probably be the case tho. I run out of vram and get bad fps drop with lots of objects and action on screen in more than a couple games at 1920x1200 + AA. erocker over at TPU found the same thing.
So Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB OC is a good choice? I ended up getting one of those cuz it said 2-4 weeks for Barts to show up in stock and the price is around 250 EUR which is slightly overpriced IMO. The GTX 460 I paid 170€ for which would correspond to $170 in the US due to how expensive things are in Finland so thought it was good deal.

I have 2x Palit gtx460 sonic platinum, and 2x Nvidia brand gtx460's, my question is the palit is a non reference pcb design, the nvidia brand looks to be reference design. Can I flash one of the Nvidia cards with the palit bios to run them in sli? One card from each brand oc's very well, other 2 are no better than everage.
There's no need to flash any card just to run sli. Any two of those cards will run in sli no problem. Both cards will run at the clockspeeds of the slower card (if there is a difference in clockspeeds between the two cards).
Thanks, didnt know that would worked in sli, thought only cf worked that way.
On older cards it was card/bios specific but the newer generations all mix and match fine. :)

update
Hey guys, Just got an Asus GTX 460 1GB DirectCU version last week and I want to try overclocking it a bit further.
I've currently got it on 875Mhz core and 2060 on the RAM using stock volts. What is safe voltage to use on these cards and do I just tick 'Unlock voltage control' in Afterburner to adjust the voltage? Do I have to change anything in the config file?
Also, I've never used Furmark before. What settings do I use to test the stability of an OC? Do I use my monitors native resolution?
What Tool is the one u use at the left?

Finally broke 30k in 06 with these cards. The cpu score is low because this chip doesnt clock well with ht enabled. Trying out my new classified 3 board, so far its pretty good.

hi man! my gigabyte gtx460 1gb OC is coming
what is the max safety voltage for gpu? is 1.087 safety?
1.12 seems cool for every one.
I ended up selling two my my GTX460s thus removing them from my loop. Able to take my remaining card quite high now. It ran 15 minutes of Furmark perfectly find at these clocks. :)

That's good to know that F3 bios allows 1.2v. Wonder how safe it would be running 1.2v 24/7 though, GPUs doesn't seem to be quite as resistant to voltage increases like CPUs in my experience at least.
nice ghz card :D
I have been playing with my Gigabyte GTX460 1GB OC (with modded F3 BIOS). I tried the max overclock on stock volts (0.937v) and got 800/1600/2000MHz stable. After that I changed the stock cooling with something better (thanks poparamiro for the idea) :D
http://file.si/pthumbs/large/126050/DSCF7476.JPG http://file.si/pthumbs/large/126056/DSCF7483.JPG http://file.si/pthumbs/large/126054/DSCF7481.JPG http://file.si/pthumbs/large/126053/DSCF7479.JPG
I put TR Mux120 with the Delta, and did a little mod for a passive VRM sink (I removed thermal pad, put the AC Ceramique, and fastened with screws). During the testing the VRM sink gets very hot, so I'll have to come up with a bigger one, especially during the testing above 1.15v. The temperatures are ok - 26C idle, and 55-57C load (I have a feeling that it could be better, maybe not the best pressure with those zip ties).
http://file.si/pfiles/126084/gtx460_950_115v_2.jpg
I'm currently at 950/1900/2000MHz @ 1.15v, stable for 3Dmark Vantage and 06. But it seems that the memory is not that great cause I keep getting artifacts above 2050MHz. Currently I'm testing everything in the case.
I see that @Designer has a great card, 1000Mhz for the chip, as well as 1125MHz for the memory is really great
thanks Razer, and nice mod to your gtx460.. im gonna try to fit my sunbeam core contact freezer tomorrow or somtin.. hope its gonna work! :)
Nope, you need to flash a modded (voltage unlocked) bios onto your card.

http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/3139/940g.jpg
I'm liking this Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB, has great value I think and the cooler is perhaps not the most powerful but works good for me in my openbench setup (32~34C idle and ~65C during Vantage at "Auto" fan setting (40%) and 55C at 100% :o 68C max at 1087mV). Did great at stock volts, up to around 820~830MHz fully stable but wouldn't scale well with voltage, 900MHz fully stable and ~915MHz benchable at 1087mV.But what I like most about it is that it doesn't have any high pitched coil wine noise or whatever, even at high FPS like 2000+ it's completely silent and also at ATItools, Kombustor, 3DMark06, Crysis etc. you mention it, it's COMPLETELY silent even when putting ear next to it. My last 3 nvidia cards have had significant high pitched electrical noise wine.
My 24/7 setting, I could use higher mem clock but I found the difference was so neglible I didn't bother.

Nice result.
Yeah :yepp:
Gigabyte OC is a good card, silent with pretty good OC : 900/1800/2100 rock stable @ 1.087, no need to torture it with 1.087V+ voltages the little card performs really well :D

875MHz Maximum got using aircooling, voltage at 1.050, with aircooling voltage will not pass 1.050, with watercooling goes to 1.087.
Aircooling with this card is a no go, noisy and too hot, fail on my list, with watercooling is a win.
Watercooling with 1.087 reached 930Mhz.

Hey guys,
Just picked up a MSI Twin Frozr II 768MB and I've currently got it maxed in Afterburner at 1.087v at 915MHz/1830MHz/4000MHz (Heaven DX11 Tess. Xtreme) stable. Was wondering if there was anyway I could increase the limit on the volts. The card tops out at 48*C running the Heaven Benchmark @ 1920x1080 with 50% fanspeed.
I got a Gigabyte 460 1GB OC yesterday and it sure seems to be a fine card. Doing 850/1700 stable stock voltage and cooling (max 60C). I have configured my BIOS to allow voltages above 1.087V but haven't flashed yet. Lot's of people seems to talk about the F3 BIOS. What settings does it apply besides the GPU voltage? Can I flash it directly to my card without alterations?
Thanks. And keep the +1000Mhz results coming ;)
