Anyone can tell me what's the best bios for this mobo by now (Stable)? 534 or 602?!
Thx
534 is my Fav  havent tryed any newer though
3x2gb Corsair CMGTX2 WOW those must be crazy, i almost couldn't be;l;ieve they are being sold as single sticks...
me want some CMGTX2
all i can say isWOW :surf:
My favorite is 0602. :yepp: Dropped VTT a little from 0601 (which is more stable then 0534 IMO) and still stable.
0601: http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/614...1t1stru.th.jpg, 0602: http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/445/x...emushki.th.jpg
Finished my build added an Intel 80gb SSD and an Asus Blu Ray very happy with this build.

the northbridge will get very hot, mine even with a 60mm fan on it with the bigger cooler and mx3 thermal paste reaches around 57ºc maximum temps.. :\
For NB I have small water block from EK.

jacek
I should see the full board block in the next few days, but for future reference can you plz advise the EK part number for the small block you have on the nb heat pipe
cheers
It's http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/ek...hp-acetal.html. Also if you don't go for the full board block, MIPS will have fusion block designed specially to match the R3E out soon.
thanx for that :-)
I have put a link to the official 0602 bios version in OP (Opening Post = first post ;)).
Have put a bios template in the 3rd post for those of you that what to use it to show others your bios setting.
Courtesy of donmarkoni for the template :)
@dionysus
Nice rig you got there
Why are the northbridge temps so bad.....my old R2E was never this hot. Is it because of the new heatsink design or poor tim application ?
my board is missing one of the NB screws on the back of the board, anyone know what screw I could use as replacement?
I don't know the size of the screw, but I believe I was missing one screw, as when I was mounting EK full board block, I had to place 1 screw near the NB, which was absent in stock cooler. Anyway this seems like it was by design and is not an accident in your case.
You beat me to it usz,
As I will be fitting the same block in a day or 2, I thought I would wip the stock cooler off and clean down ready, well I also have 1 postion where a screw would fit but it isnt there !
On closer inspection I saw there ist actually any thread in the hole, so 2 options 1, its meant to be like that. 2, its a miss build.
For me Im not to bothered s Im fitting the block but is it not a coincedence that many ppl are reporting high n/b temps ??
Also worth a mention, the heat pipe on the RE2 was a bugger to get off the paste used was like "hard blue tak", the stuff on the RE3 is different again like a hard wax is the only way I can describe it, a real pain to clean down as well !
see this link, look closely at the holes, the one on the bottom right has never had a screw in it, this is not my RE3 btw

I too am finding my NB temps high, in the neighborhood of 58-59c for the ICH and 62-63c for the IOH at stock settings just idling. Looks like I will be ordering a full block. Just wondering which block I will go with.
What prog do you use to measure the temps? ASUS Probe-It or Everest?
Yeah I'll do the same. I've only used Everest and it reads 51-52c for the NB and 42-43 for the SB... Installing Probe now.
EDIT: Probe shows the same.
dont foget go old cpuid hw monitor, I ve been using it for a while now, a recent update gives nb sb, power consumption, and much more, see this page and just grab the 32 or 64 bit setup.
http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
in this most recent update Asus rog monitoring is listed as additional functionality, its almost as if it was written for RE2 RE3 !!
Here's where I'm at with a mild overclock and with the SMP folding client running. The ICH temp is always ~51 C. The IOH temp is always ~57 C.
Please disregard the CPU/CPUTIN temp as it is bogus.
My CPU and GPU are water cooled and I have installed the optional NB heat sink with fan.
By the way, if you seen any issues with my settings please let me know. This is my first overclocking effort and though I'm having fun I don't want to screw things up too badly.
How cant we see your overclock and what CPU you have ? and how cant we see if you are stress testing?
Dboone
you set nb to 1.8v?
or is that auto
my rexII is 1.5 auto
zsamz - IOH voltage is on manual and set for 1.16600.
KaRLiToS - here's a screen shot of CPU-Z
I have a couple of question I need help in finding a solution please.
This is my first time using an SSD drive the install went (Intel 80GB) fine and it seems all is well did a quick CrystalMark and my result are in line.
I installed the Intel toolbox and I get an error not connecting to drive the unusually part is it was working fine for a day or so now its not.
The other think that seems a little strange is in the Intel Rapid storage software that is included with the driver if I look at the status screen it shows my CD BD rom drives but it does not show my SSD drive.
Thanks in advance.
maybe r3e is good for 980x but not for 920.
max bclk for mine is 212.
bios contains an old AHCI ROM and other drivers. No DYNAMIC VID option.
it is possible that I will go back to UD7.

Why would you need offset vcore anyway?
Now for the stability, first thing that stands out on your screenshot is that you run your PCIE at 100Mhz, try bumping it up a bit, it tends to improve bclk overclocking. The other thing is that you run your memory at 1000 at higher VTT - being 1.425 - did you account for the default vdroop on QPI? I assume you transfered your settings from previous board, but many boards like classy etc have already always enabled VTT load line calibration, while on R3E you have to manually switch jumper on board to enable it. So the instability can come up from too low VTT voltage after vdroop kicks in. Did you actually measure it with multimeter?
where is that jumper switch? cant find it =]
With a good CPU , 227- 230Bclock shouldn't pose much of a problem... the answer is in the settings :) Try a MSI X Power for Bclock with Bloomfield , that's another story...

Found it allready thx:cool:
So far magnage to acheve stable 4.2Ghz 220x19 1.3v - but stll testing.
How far can i go on no watercooled NB? Ive got 120 fan above it - 40C.
Asus has bios 0602 up on the official site anyone using this one yet? and if so anything gained versus the one that shipped? the release note just states that FIX SATA 6G device may experience S3 resume failure when using Intel i7 965 CPU.
Thoughts?
Rampage III Extreme is currently $359.99 with free shipping at Newegg today for those of you that haven't picked one up yet.

Is there any performance difference at all from running your GPU in the second PCI-E 2.0 slot instead of the first since they're both x16? I only have a single XFX 5870 and the northbridge (IOH) seems to run cooler with the video card moved down further.
hey jacek
you are not alone
my ramp3 limits at 219
this is with 920 that did over 235 on dfi ut and asus p6t.
and no its not a setting
What about this?

Are some R3Es better with Bclk than others?
dionysus your ROG logo is not seated properly.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y30...e/IMG_0282.jpg
answers to your questions:
1)no
2)yes, vcore about 1.4V, vtt 1.5V- it doesnt help.
my bios settings:
PLL was 1.8V
maybe I forgot about something. Any help is appreciated.

Im really new to i7 Overclocking,
How do I check my max bclk?
Are the volt readings on ASUS Probe accurate? Or when you measure with a DMM is there a significant difference?
Hey guys,i see there is a new turbo V .Can i use that on my p6t7?
Or is it just for R2III?

hehehe ;)
btw how much vQPI u guys used to run ur 920 with speed over 4.2Ghz?
and what is QPI Link Data Rate? (Slow Mode, 4800MT/s, 5866MT/s, 6400MT/s)
OK, this board has finally hit Japan, but a quick question before I buy it, Is the NB chip-set heat-sink supposed to have 3 screws or 2? Been reading that some users have 3 and other's 2, which is it?

Quote:
The newly fabbed CPU is connected to a special "tester" machine (see: teradyne.com for one vendor). This machine controls all of the pins to the CPU, and specially-written test programs are played onto the pins (with expected results). The clock and voltage are increased until the point of failure, and this determines which bin it makes.

OC Panel It will not be sold along with the RIIIE?
@Linuxfan
I do not know. I thought it came with the RIII.
Im using this :)
http://img.xataka.com/2009/05/asus_rog_oc_station.jpg
love it
I love this motherboard!!!!!!! Got my 980x to 4.00ghz with only 1.287V
no no :) having a case is sacrilegious, I stole the pic
I bench on a mobo box lol
Wow that is so sweet :surf:
I was wrestling with that exact same thought, almost went for the lian li case with the red powder coat interior, black outside,
man it would look sweet in that but then got to keep taking it out.... R3E + case = fail
can anyone shed some light on this plz
I am planning to run 1 crucial C300 6gbs ssd on one of the marvel ports and I wanted to run 2 raptors on 2 of the intel ports ( raid 0) , as the ssd will need achi for trim support and the bios will be set to raid not achi, will this work. ??
any ideas
thanks
Is that OC Panel available to retail?
The only answer of any sort that I have received was... here.
Thanks for that. Guess we stick to a laptop or mobile phone then....Quote:

Maybe only some boards are able to push high BCLK . I can't find any other explanation ...
I have tried 4 cpu's that all had high BCLK on EVGA E760 .
One of them is a W3540 which can run at 250 on air.
On Asus it's stuck to 232 .
I'll wait a bit more and if no bios fix this , i'll find another board again .
Only problem i have had is the bios bug.
oh man i sold my rexII and have the rexIII commin
now i gotta pray for high blk board:(
My prayers are with you.
Just to raise your hopes a little:
http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/3...bclk240.th.jpg
It was my first try over 222bclk 2 nights ago. Got 220, raised VTT, got 230, raised VTT, got 240. After that becomes harder, but it was impossible with my old board.
Hey Guys,
Why do I keep seeing people talking about CPU VTT?? I don't see that as a option.. Are you talking about QPI/DRAM
yes, it's QPI/DRAM VOLTAGE.
I start to pray for a new better bios :worship::rofl:
guys :D
oc panel is for extreme overclocker and asus will send it directly to you :D you can'y buy it :(
what I understand couple weeks ago only extreme overclocker will get it, so I think asus looks on, for example, hwbot and then sending the panel or your local asus office decide who will get it ;)
you can try :D

hopefully Ill finally get up and running over the w/e
BTW I know the RoG logo is on wrong, its not fixed yet.
man o man that is just pure pron, I like the way that black cooler looks, oh so sweet!
Man....I never water cooled any system i ve ever built, but that block makes me rethink, it really is sweet.
That's a gorgeous block...
your water block looks better.. yours did not come with a rusty cap screw.
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...DSC_0355-1.jpg
I am usually a shiny chrome/nickle guy when it comes to water blocks,
but i think that blackie looks like go with the R3E--
any one else running a C300, if you didnt know there is a firmware release dated 20 05 2010
http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx#
addressing trim support and other stuff
woot
I want to reach the highest Bclk possible and maybe reach 4.4 Ghz 24/7
Should I enable Hyper-Threading
Should I enable Load-Line calibration (100%)
Should I enable QPI Load Line Calibration (with the jumper beside the 24 pin atx)
Thanks for your help.
LLC %50 seems to work the best without overvolting
hyperthreads, why not?
BCLK doesnt effect performance
qpi llc will not hurt :)
Thanx man for your help.
I changed the jumper into the enable position, I dont see any difference under load
Im currently testing my highest bclk frequency (im new to i7) I hope I'll reach at least 220 Mhz.
But I have a question. My CPU voltage is different in all my programs, which one am I suppose to listen? And how come my voltage in CPU-Z Raise from 1.21 to 1.25 under load with 100% Load Line calibration, I thought the voltage was decreasing
http://i50.tinypic.com/r2lzj5.jpg
Thanks for your help I appreciate
best way is with a multimeter on the side read points of the board :) I dont trust software
Ok, another usefull question
What is CPU PLL , I've been looking on google and can't find a decent answer.
Also, how do I know when to raise PLL or lower it.
My Asus Rampage III extreme Default is 1.81 v CPU PLL
Finally got a bit of a chance to fiddle with the board and CPU a little more. I dont know but for me seems QPI disabled is more stable...
You should try and enable Hyper Threading
Normal LLC, for the most part, seems to be fine. But people say its safer with LLC off. Seems as though the Intel chips are quite resilient to vcore spikes (well the info I have come across anyway)
And a big thanks to Splave for his help, you da man!:yepp:
I reach 220 Mhz BCLK and I can't seem to go higher
multiplier: 12x
bclk: 220
CPU Vcore: 1.20625v
QPI/Dram (VTT): 1.24375
DRAM Bus: 1.537v
PLL: 1.82 v
IOH 1.29v
I can't go higher than 220Mhz BCLK, what should I do to go higher?, my memory is currently at its lowest. I have G Skill 2000 Mhz
KILL A Watt :
