That really makes no sense to me. Why pay extra shipping and handling for something that should come with the box. Its ok for guys in the US or EU and UK, but what abt in Asia and India??

It's a matter of the AMD brackets being available from our supplier. The first run of them had significant issues so we had to scramble for another solution.
Our goal is to have brackets that are compatible with 775, 1156, 1366, and AM2/3 in the box. Right now it's 775 and 1366, and all units come in a white box instead of a retail box as it is still being printed.
It is very clear now that I'm not going to replace my TRUE. Was hoping for +10c different.

he is using prime to generate the load on the cpu? what happened to using linpak to do the job properly?
so is it recommended to set the fan to pull in air from outside the case? i would much rather have the radiator away from the case using standoffs. kinda like how you see radiators on the back of cases. it would use the outside air, and it would dump the heat outside. something no air cooler can ever do (unless you make your case custom to isolate the heatsink from the rest of the case, but good luck)
I don't like IBT and Linx, stresses my cpu too much. I'm not wasting a good CPU on a silly testing tool that heats up ya cpu way further than any app in this world will ever do... plus it's not the ultimate stress tool, it's THE tool that generates the most heat :p

strange, it just seems to me that linpak would be the ideal tool to run especially if your doing cpu cooler reviews. i just cant see the point in clocking a cpu to 4ghz and using prime on it when the same cpu at 3.6ghz running linpak would generate more heat.
however i do understand that if its the only cpu you have available to test with then you dont want to be breaking it. but then the question arises, why overclock the cpu if you have fear of it getting hot.
looks like linpak is all it takes to fry shrimps these days. :ROTF:

atleast someone sees things the way i do. id hate to go by the madshrimps review, e.g i see X cooler doing 55c on a q6600 at 3.8ghz, so im like ok ill get that cooler for my q6600 to run at 3.6ghz, then im like wtf why my cpu running 10c hotter at 3.6ghz with less voltage than the cpu in the review running at 3.8ghz?? turns out i used linpak and review used prime. :mad:
LinX and IBT has become stability tests many people use so it should be used in reviews to produce maximum heat...
But if people like Priming 24hours+ be my guest, I am using LinPack and I detect instability and reach stable clocks much faster then I ever managed to do with Prime...
i agree, these days i use linpak (linx) to do stability testing for the cpu since its the fastest way to find out stability on the cpu. i do still use prime in blend mode to hit my memory controller and goldmemory to hit the ram. hopefully one day there will be a dos based stress tester that you just boot from and it tests everything for you.
but yes these days more and more people are getting clued up and are using linpak for stressing the cpu. i cant understand why a review site would want to review a cooler and not present the cooler a decent challenge. using dual core for the testing is bad enough as it is. prime on top of that and its just being silly now.
i just do a 24hour linpak to slap the crap out of my cpu for overclock testing. prime for cpu stressing is no good these days.

not only does running such stress tests as IBT and linX for long periods of time physically shorten the lifespan of your CPU (even prime is bad for the CPU) but it also is pointless as leeghoofd says there is no REAL PROGRAM that will stress your CPU as much as prime and therefore it is not worth clocking for stability in anything more stressful than prime. period. You all think your proving something by running these extreme torture tests but in reality your just proving you have no regard for reality or the health of your CPU.
strange, i would have thought on xtreme systems people would be pushing everything to the extreme along with xtreme testing methodologies. as for regarding the health of my cpu if i was that scared of it blowing up i wouldnt even overclock it. to me if its not linpak stable its unstable. and i just hate using unstable machines to do my work on.
back on topic now, since this is about cpu cooler reviews the more heat used the better it is. most people here wanted to see if the corsair rad would reach a saturation point. using prime wont show any of that especially on a dual core cpu.
Sorry,i'am also not agree..i have here more then 100 chess engines and many off them stress the cpu more then Prime and these are my daily programs!!
My system has to be stable with my chess programs,no matter what other bench or stress program you use!
So,the only result that matters me is to see how good the Hydro H50 can handle my chess program!
And if it can give me much better temps (like -7°C from my max. now) then i will buy it.

From my experience Linpack is better for stability testing atleast - and I never ever run it longer then an hour, more than that is just dumb. An hour has always been enough for me, after that I go on with running WCG 24/7, playing games and other everyday uses.
As far as Prime goes, it requires a longer period of time to show stability then compared to Linpack and I have to run it for 24h+ too feel satisfied...
Only speaking from my own experience on this one, but I personally prefer Linpack for my stability testing. The only one I am proving anything is to myself, that my system is infact stable.
I'm at about 24 hours of total testing just for this H50 unit per CPU (due to numerous test variables)
I'm awaiting 4 more new I7 blocks, got 3 new Enzotech base samples to test. I've got more than 120 hours of priming ahead for the next I7 roundup, if you guys think I'm gonna do LinX or such on this nice i950 you must be joking... :ROTF:
Secondly you must consider this is a single rad unit. I'm testing at 3.8Ghz for the I7 as this CPU seems to be a hot head too. It was already throttling with the stock cooler at 3.9GHz, so I backed down to 3.8 to just keep it under 100°C :D. This cooler is not foreseen for high OC's, it's an easy step up from a stock cooler and performs alike and depending on the case used and airflow, better than most high end air coolers.
Thirdly FYI LinX nor IBT give me a 100% stability test tool, I can succesfully run IBT at max mem and yet cap out in eg Hyperpi 32mb ( 8 threads) in the first iteneration. There's no such thing as the ideal tool, a mix is required... and the best test is daily usage.
Linx stable means absolutely nothing. It's all in between ya ears ! If you think you are extreme by using LinX or IBT good for you then.
Fourthly Corsair gave each reviewer a well documented what-to-do-list, I already deviated from that by using my own prime test instead of the large test ( this to keep the results in conformity with the already available database at Shrimps )
Cyber , my E7400 makes my phase unit running so hot at 5ghz ( while that modded Unit can hold the E8600 at 5.75Ghz bench stable ) So don't tell me about heat. This is one hot motha.
But to each his own... ask the other reviewers to use LinX or IBT...
Link me to them plz, so I can compare temp results and will pm ya the results...thing why we use prime is as we are expanding the current database. Switching to another program means redoing all them coolers and waterblocks...

I test my machine for an hour with occt.If i get no errors then thats fine for me.
Untill now in my 24/7 use ive never had a bsod or other abnormalities.And only with an hour of occt.
I also dont get why guys want to torture this much their machines?
Everyone knows the use and potential of their machines.So why do i need to strees test for lets ay 24 hours when i m not going to do something that will require the system to be @100% for 24 hours?

One thing I discovered it that the fan runs about 70rpm faster on the I7 mobo then on the S775. So I need to check that too and hook the fan and pump straight to the PSU maybe

I've been thinking about the instructions to have the H50 fan blow into the case
seems like this would be bad for a case with a lower mounted PSU (Antec P19x) as the PSU will be exhausting hot air and it rises up along the back and then gets sucked back into the case by the H50 fan
also having the rear fan as exhaust seems like it would disrupt the normal airflow in the case
I'm definitely going to experiment with different fan configurations when I get mine

Yep it hindered airflow in my little antec case, after I retested everything in the Antec P160 case with an Antec spotcool temps weren't influenced...(other NB cooler was a 90mm on a Zalman bracket.
Good air flow is a must if you want this unit to perform optimal

My unit max length is 28cm, realistically I would count at 25Cm max to allow some flexing (measured from the start of the tubing on the RAD till the mid of the cooling unit.)

I just had Gareth of Corsair on the phone, ( I had send him some of my early results ) Apparently there are some units that have some manufacturing issues. Mainly some of the screws on the bottom are not countersunk enough and sadly my unit is involved. On top of that my unit seems to be convex on one side and flat on the other. I didn't check the flatness of the bottom plate till a few minutes ago.
Other thing I asked which TRUE fan Corsair used in their comparisive test. He couldn't confirm i f it was the boxed one or a higher rpm version. At the moment he was using a noctua cooler and still got that 10°C difference in advantage of the H50. I confirmed him on my unit the TRUE got the better of the H50. This with the TRUE bundled with the 1600rpm fan (not the stock 1000rpm fan which is in the box) The TRUE gains by a few degrees.
He then advised me to check the screws and the flatness of the bottom plate. I also got this mail from him :
I’ve just been informed about a possible manufacturing fault with some H50 units. It’s limited to a small percentage of the units, and we discovered it before many units went out to reviewers or customers, but it’s possible that it may affect the unit you have.
The problem is with the countersink bore on the cold plate. In some cases, the screws that attach the cold plate to the pump unit may not be fully seated, which may reduce the surface contact between the cold plate and the CPU, lowering the cooling performance.
You can visually inspect your review unit to see if the problem exists. If your unit is affected then the screws in the cold plate will not be fully countersunk.
If you have a H50 with the problem, we will swap it out immediately, and we’ll do the same for any customer who has the problem, though we don’t believe there will be many. In fact, we haven’t had any reports of the problem from customers so far, so this is mainly a precautionary measure.
If anyone of you already got this unit and performance is not as good as advertised plz check the screws on the bottom

Hold off mate till some more data pops up... I'm gonna cranck up the speeds to 4Ghz and see what happens then, bad unit or not. Once I get them results I post them, but be warned that other units might perform better
It will not shorten the life of the CPU if your max load temp under those programs is still safe, if however your at like 75c Prime with an i7 CPU and with Linpack/LINX your 85c-90c then thats different, but that means its clocked too high anyways.
The point of stressing the CPU that bad is to drag into the light any instability in a relatively short amount of time, that way a few days, weeks or even months from now your not playing a game and it just locks up or BSOD's and reboots on you.
The flaw in peoples thoughts on this seem to be that if your system is stable for hours on Prime but not on LINX, then it will be stable forever on anything that doesn't stress it over Prime levels, thats wrong.
The less stress just means less of a chance to run into an error, but if its not truly stable then you will eventually get one.
If you don't care about that, its fine, completely up to you and what you find important.
But when people here talk in terms of "Stable" their talking about Perfectly stable under the highest stress testing programs available to us, not "doesn't crash in my games" stable.
Explain me then why I am linX stable (max mem and 64bit OS) yet cannot complete a superpi 32mb run ? Really guys there's no ultimate testing tool, each one has it's advantages but sadly also it's flaws. I opted for custom prime 20k for the database to avoid getting different numbers and comparisons.

This unit is designed for zero maintenance so you shouldn't have to worry about evap or filling. You're more than welcome to cut the tubing, drain it, and add your own radiator, but that would void the warranty of course. We decided to go with the single 120mm radiator for maximum compatibility. There aren't many cases where you can fit a 240mm rad without modding, and certainly the minute you use the word "cut" in your instructions you lose like 75% of the people who are interested in buying it at least.
Again, we want people to think of this like a high end aircooler, not a low-end watercooler. It's designed to compete with aircooling more than anything, which is why the price point is so low comparatively.
im sold on this, i like building compact, and i mean very compact cases, and a good high perf air cooler in a much smaller size that can be put anywhere.

this looks great for people that don't have any WC equipment yet, but for those that do and already have some spare tubing, what size are the barbs and tubing? they look smaller than 3/8" ID. and since you mentioned "cut", how would we go about doing this? from the pics, the tubings go all the way INTO the pump. what's it connected to in there? how can we patch 3/8" tubing on this thing for a custom length?
It might be 10mm tubing that could work, hardly any way to go 3/8 on this thing, there just not enough room. Since my unit has some issues with the base and the gurgling noise at the first 1-2 minutes after fire up (unlucky me ), I decided to open it...
I"m awaiting if I can post these piccies yes or no... trying to refill it with my liquid fluid and see if I can get rid of that gurgling noise...

I don't know of any programs that will cause as much vdroop as Linpack, and that lower vcore that you will never, ever see otherwise will be "unstable" in Linpack. I've passed 40 runs of IBT, Prime small fft, blend, Memtest 3.8, 86+ and was still having odd freezeing, then failed a custom prime run in 2 minutes. Once I got everything so I didn't fail that custom prime run I haven't seen a BSOD or freeze up since and it's been months, I don't even know that it passes IBT and I don't care.

It's just a prime large fft run with run fft in place unchecked and all of your available memory enabled but it stresses your mch harder than anything that I know of. If you can pass a couple hours of that and a long small fft run and your stable as far as I'm concerned.
I should also mention that on my old e8400 I have passed 40 runs of IBT and then right after failed prime small fft in around 45 minutes on a couple of different boards, nothing a little GTL tweeking didn't fix.

And like said before I have 2 screws that are not 100% well countersunk. I suspect due to that, the bottom plate is a bit bend now ( very thin copper ) : convex on one side, flat on the other end. Hopefully the new sample will nibble off a few more degrees...
I hope to get another sample yes, retesting will be done, maybe this is also one of the reasons the HOCP review is performing like that...

Yes, the rear bracket is fixed to the mobo, so it stays put when you unscrew the whole unit... I asked for an AM2/3 bracket with the new unit ( if possible )
