Daily point production will depend on how much your CPU is overclocked. You would likely average 5,000-10,000 WCG points per day.

I am outrageously new to this, as you can tell, and I am only familiar with the names of the clients, not what they accrue points for haha.
Thank you. I will go with Windows (64-bit of course). It wasn't a question of points just which was easier to configure in the shortest amount of time.
Hi guys, today i started crunching in this old pc i have, but i am having trouble getting both processors to work at 100%..
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uplo...c1d4a6e7db.png
It is an athlonx2@3.2. As you can see i have already configured it in wcg to use 100% of cpu time.. any idea of what could it be? W7 32bit, 2g ram
Got it to work at full load now. At first it was only working on 1 project, now there are 2 projects and the cpu is fully loaded.
See you later
Well, joined up with WCG and XtremeSystems on WCG. Running a Q6600 OCed to 3.06GHz at the moment. Just started my first batch about 12 minutes ago.
i think that the best configure with multisocket pcs is 13 threads on a 16 thread pc is faster.
during some investigate on my rig one work uses 1,15-1,20 threads. any ideas?
Use these settings:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...3&d=1272495172
This gives maximum output.
Benchmark results
Number of CPUs :16
2291 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
5725 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
any comments? :S are those good numbers?
dual xeons E5520
stock speed 2,28Ghz turbo mode 2,4Ghz
Windows ultimate 64bit
those are my results from the CPU benchmark from BOINC manager
Your dhrystone seems a little low. Are you running the 32bit or 64bit BOINC client?
how can i see them and if i change my client do i lose my requests?
x86 client i cant find the x64 version
Download direct from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
the priority in task manager is low... for the task for evey task that BOINC has do i have to change it to normal??
That priority is normal for the default install, I leave mine running at low. They run fine that way, and only drop off when your doing something else that needs the cycles.

Joined up and doing the deed now. Lets crash ol' Big Blue Brother!
Should I do anything about errors on a WU? I feel like I'm missing out :c and like I wasted a bunch of time
ni356_ 00047_ 12-- Greyteam Error 5/2/10 06:42:40 5/2/10 11:20:29 0.01 0.3 / 0.0
Hey Folks, I decided to pitch in some cycles for the week. I have a question though...
I let in run yesterday untill all projects were finished and saying "Waiting to Report". The machine sat like that for almost 3 hours.
My pump has been making some noise so I was a little leary of leaving it run ovenight so I shut the machine down. When I fired it up this morning it started with all new data packets...
Am I missing something? I thought it would automatically upload data to the server.... Hope I didn't lose all that work from yesterday.... :(
Joined the team yesterday. After being a passive reader here for a long time it's time to get more involved. :)
For now "only" my Xeon 3060 @3GHz is crushing but I plan to add my Phenoms too.
It can depend on what your Network Usage settings are, I run mine on a 2 day connection, and maintain about 5 days of extra work. You can check 2 ways ........ 1. log on to the WCG site, go to My Grid, and then check result status, set result stats to either Pending Validation, or Vaild - that will show what you have sent back. 2. check the messages section of the client, it you have enough history it will show ... Reporting Foo completed tasks.......
I've had them stack up complete for days before even with the 2 day setting, but usually if you hit the update it will send what ever is ready, also when you shutdown and restart.
Rick
rwillis: Thanks man, they are showing as valid on MyGrid w/points... :D
Glad I didn't lose the work from yesterday...
Dave
Your welcome - Happy to help :)
ive got some work from my previous install(32 XP)that i just realized didnt get finished.since i reinstalled x64 and dont have
this install anymore, what will happen since i cant finish them?they are due on 5-5-2010.do i just get penalized?lose points?
No - no penalty nor do you lose points. For future reference - it would be better to cancel or abort the WU's so they can be redistributed faster to folks still running. They will be in any case, but aborting will get them back into circulation faster.
Rick
i realize that now,but beginners always seem to screw up something.
and i have made at least three screwups since i started on 4-16-2010.
im learning thanks to people like you,who take the time to give good advice.
thank you much
thanks.will do
ok here is my stypid learning error :P i was using the x86 version and i now using the x64 version but my projects are no longer in the x64 client and i cant open my x86 version due to the x64 setup. what do i do to get them back or to cancel them so they can be redistributed faster to folks still running??????????
and something else how many machines can i use in the same account?
I don't believe there is anything you can do to get the X86 jobs back, but others may know more than I about that. As for the number of machines on an account, you can run as many as you like, I'm currently running 3 and have run as many as 20. Just install the client on each machine, adn us the account you used to setup the first one.
Rick
You can't do anything, that I know of, to get them back. Don't stress about it. There's plenty of work to go around. As for your second question, as many as you can connect. There may be a limit to how many unique IDs the WCG servers can handle per account, but it's going to be such a ridiculously high number that nobody will ever reach it. I'm talking in the BILLIONS btw, possibly more. If you think you can get a hold of a few thousand machines legitimately, go for it.
If you write a virus and use a whole botnet to crunch WCG, expect to be banned from the project and every forum associated with it for life. Yes it's that serious.
That's not an accusation, that's a warning for ANYONE thinking about it. Don't do it. Just don't.
There was also a guy at Folding@Home who wrote a virus which installed it on any infected computer under his account. He was banned from the project, stripped of his points and any awards that went with them and, as far as I know, reported to the authorities for what is a federal crime in the US and in many other countries.
People are rather sensitive to make sure it never happens again.
Planned to start on the 1st, but something is better than nothing I suppose.
Ill run it on my work e6750, X2-3200 and i5
bringin in my 955BE; i7 620m and T7400 mbp
the e2140 just as my p9600 cps13 aren't available right now...
does it matter chich cause i choose during the setup in terms of ppd?
the i7620m just started FAAH projects; are they ok so late in the game or do they take way too long?
edit: it takes 5 hours for 4threads so it should be done before may 8th; is it better to run 2 threads on the i7620m or make use of HT?
shall i assigne every thread to a logical core or is it ok @ default (running win 7 64)
the 955 received hcc projects :)
I don't remember where on the WCG site to set global preferences for work queues, etc :(
Go to the WCG site, and under My Grid............
For Device Preferences - Go to Device manager, select device profiles, and click the custom bullet, and edit the profile the save the profile. Then add the new profile the device.
For Projects go to My Projects, and select the projects you'd like to run.
Rick
I am now helping, now i need to get motivated enough to put this on my main rig and not just the laptop. too bad i cant put it on the old download box.. time setting is off on purpose. by years.
I think it might be worth putting in the guide to increase your additional work buffer. Otherwise, if and when the server goes down (like yesterday) silly people like myself will run out of WU's to crunch :(
It's mentioned in the other guide.;)
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...57&postcount=7
It sure is :) Good good, just me then.
Hey guys Im proud to say, I have joined the WCG Team and GPUGRID team too, the guides where very helpfull, I just need to know how can I get those stat displayers on my signature xD, Also I got the WCG team sig but cant find the GPUGRID one . Any how it feels good to be helping out .
Welcome to the nut hou... errrr team ;)
I'm now in! Since my PC at work is on 24/7, I figured I'll let it crunch. Home PC in the next month or 2.
wow now that is a list of instructions. too bad groups cant distribute customized exes with all the setup done. imagine how many ppd you'd get if it was as easy as double clicking an email attachment.
I got an email today from a film director, director name was something like filman or movieman. Does anyone know who is?
I downloaded this client, and does it use my GPU too? or just cpu?
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_6...ows_x86_64.exe i downloaded this file.
edit:
I joined GPUGRID, so it's now running on gpus too!
I joined the team. If only BOINC would connect to the local host :|
I hope I can ad some power to the team with my main rig (specs in my sig)
Welcome! I cannot get the latest version to connect to localhost on my Windows 7 rig either. I recommend trying the 6.10.60 version. That one works for me. Make sure to uninstall the other version, show hidden folders, then go to ProgramData -> BOINC and clear out the BOINC directory in there.
Once you have it working, this directory is important. If you ever need to reinstall windows or something you can backup this folder, reformat, install OS, install BOINC, put the folder back... and viola! You have your work units ready to go, exactly the same as before you formatted!

nice thread, thanks for instructions - am now on as.
Awesome! and welcome! Let us know if you have any questions.
glad to have you!
