Can us fortunate reporters join this thread too? :D
No overclocking for us, but I can't really complain!
By the way, count me in for the drinking activities. This is going to be a 12,000KM ~22 hour trip for me (Team South Africa too actually), so beer will be most welcome! http://pages.infinit.net/macmac/icons/beer.gif
Here's bad pic, but that's how I am going to look after the jet lag
http://images.hardwarecanucks.com/image/mac/MISC/me.jpg
sure MACMAC...i've put you under press in the first post as from Hardware Canucks...correct me if need be and send a pic if you like.
everyone - i have updated the front page with all the teams from the gooc2008 website but came accross some conflicts...
who is in Team USA #1?...is it Ross and maxi or Ross and G H Z?
and the Chinese Teams?... the Gigabyte site says Team China #1: Victor....and Team China #2 SpeedTime D.B and Hixie....are these correct or not?
and lastly anyone who's name and/or photo i don't have feel free to post it here or pm it to me...that includes all supporting member and press
oh also strummwinter is also going to compete for Team Germany but i don't have his photo
got it MACMAC :)
dino22 - i got the German Team listed now...your thread made me aware and then i spotted like 5 other missing teams on the gooc2008 site and added them all as well...so missing photo list is bigger than ever :/...heheh
Here's Ekberg:
http://www.techsweden.org/main/image...LBJ&n=036.jpeg
The other team is more Team Sweden/Finland, since SF3D Finnish and elmor Swedish. :)
got it...thanks Mean Machine
Ok I think you guys have my pic... here is my cousin "Ankit"
http://www.imgx.org/files/22572_zgum2/Ankit.jpg
He has been helping me with pots as well as CPU + GPU LN2 benching :)
oh so Mark = G H Z = Maxi
that's a shame
i really liked that G H Z guy but not the biggest fan of Maxi
j/k :D
LOL, he answers to a lot of things ;)
Thanks for not using that pic that s7e9h3n took

I had to check my F1EE into my luggage once due to the confusion it caused the airport security. It was definitely opened up and inspected sometime between dropping it off in one airport and landing in the next. Might want to write a nice little note to accompany all your pots and to ease confusion
I got stopped on my out of Hong Kong with my two Tek9 3.0's, but I explained what they were and they let me through. FUGGER was ready with pics of the event too in case they decided to probe me further.
Within the US, I've flown with containers several times and they've never really been a problem.
Not really trouble when you spend a little amount of time to explain them what is it and why we used this type of "strange things" !
When I need to flew back from berlin (ASUS EAOC) they asked me to open my luggage (not the carry on :D but my heavy luggage !)
the customs officier only check on CPU pot and not the second.
Be aware of screwdrivers etc... I needed to drop them in a garcage in order to successfully pass the security check...
This contest looks awesome, GL to all the competitors!!
I've been stopped in Aus for my kayl GPU pots that looked like serious weapons in carry-on (had the screws sticking out and everything).
Had to arrange to somehow check them in.
Aside form that its been cool cos i usually just check my pots in anyway.
Got stopped last trip for micro screw drivers in carry on, they wrote me a reciept and actually carried them by the staff on the flight for me to collect afterwards :) I love Singapore airlines!
I got stopped going to Oz with my Tek9 3.0 in my carry-on, they gave me a bit of a hard time. But that was more over the name and the picture of a gun thats on the out side of the container it comes in :)
It was just pointed out to me that the ATI VGA cards for the FS part no longer need to be Gigabyte cards. When did that change ?
Team IRAN:
here is our picture, the left side man is me and the right side man (LN2 worker) is MohammadReza Panahi (MRP)
we will arrive 23th at 21:00, looking forward to meet you all there.
It's me :

guys, did you try to open GOOC website (http://gooc2008.gigabyte.com.tw/)?? It's weird link automatically to http://www.stoptheviruscold.invalid/ . Someone hack this site ?
ASUS doing dirty business? :D
I can recommend some hotels, if i could just remember their names lol.
Stayed in a few different ones, with a range of pricing
finally it fixed :D..... VOTE VOTE VOTE!! :D
:) i'm getting more excited day by day, see u guys there :D
who want to participate in freestyle with 4850 ?
hi i will be staying in one of these hotel.... the price is pretty decent i find...
here is the link... :)
http://www.ffh.com.tw/index_eng_menu.htm
Damn the traffic???
As its down again right now :p:
Could someone explain (except dinos :p: ) what is all about the "free style competition"?......
What are we suppose to bring with us?... :(
:rofl::rofl: outch!!!! heheheh
I don't think it was hacked. I think they might have updated something which is now conflicting with a possible .htaccess file they have in place.
You might also want to look at the Leofoo hotel. The 4 of us coming across from South Africa have decided to stay on an extra day to do some site seeing and we're going to be staying here.
T_M I know one of the hotel's you're refering to. It's close to the Gigabyte HQ's. It's more expensive than Leofoo unfortunately.
The one i go to often is called Lake Hotel, but it way too far from the CBD action where the comp will be.
I've also stayed in a few in teh CBD area that were reasonable, but cant remember names sorry.
George,
The Freestyle Comp is about breaking WR for hardware categories on HWBot.
You can use any of the hardware that Gigabyte supply for the comp, and then you can add to that your own HDD/CPU/RAM/Gigabyte Mobo/Gigabyte GPU(s)/etc.
Basically you have 2hrs to break as many #1 hwbot as you can using Gigabyte based systems.
The person who gets the most records will get $3000.
An example (the rig i will run):
QX9770 / E8600
Gigabyte EP45T Extreme
2 x Gigabyte 4870X2
Patriot DDR3
2 x Gigabyte Odin PSU
WD 500Gb SATA
First Hotel, good strolling area decent room.
Hondo hotel is ok, better of the two for room, and about the same for location.
Both are pretty close to Hyatt.
As Fre3ak pointed out, check the tv channels between the channels.
And creepily enough the pron channels in the bathroom TVs are unlocked, yet locked in the main room ;)
Maybe we should just combine efforts....
Hey Tim
After the first post was updated, it was pointed out to me that it now only says that the Motherboard needs to be Giga.
The Vid card only says ATI, do you know if thats right or not ?
Or do we still need a Giga card/s.
Gigabyte (Intel) motherboards and (ATI) video cards
Would one of you guys who have stayed at the Hondo Hotel in the past mind uploading a google earth placemark?
-----------------
Edit: Updated google placemark's file on next page.
hi to every body
i am mohmmad reza panahi.one of PARTICIPANT gigabyte overclocking festival.
i am so happy to meet professional world overclockers.
i will see you very soon:up:
So that means that we can bring some X800 ATI VGA and take down ALL hwbot records with it.....Is it OK?..... :)
This means for example, that if I break 6 hwbot records with the X800 I get 6 points and if you break 5 hwbot records with the 2 x 4870s you will get 5 point, so I win?.......
Gigabyte SHOULD and MUST clarify about this and be more specific because we will ALL bring our Radeons X800s or so..... :)
Or 9800PRO's :)
The way the rules currently read, you are correct George.
Hicookie made mention previously that there would be some limits, but it was never clearly defined nor added to the rules
Yes but they MUST specify it ASAP so for us to know what to bring.... :(
do you think that EP45T-Extreme is suitable for breaking hw records ?
try this keyword in the google search please : EP45t-Extreme site:hwbot.org
no one could register any record using this mainboard in hwbot.
:) note that I will come to the fs with this mainboard too.
for the ones who want to have sight seeing program at 27th :
what is your idea about cycling in taiwan ? may be we can schadule this in our program. please check the links :

Welcome to XS as well TAT...see you in just over a week! :D
Look forward to meeting you there TAT & nvidia :)
TAT, we also had a cool judge at AOCC... I think his name was Piko? seth can correct me, as I kept getting it wrong at the event :/
Guys, an important piece of information:
Gigabyte rules for the freestyle competition have been clarified:
Hardware category #1 scores for each benchmark on hwbot does count
On a seperate note, there has been some complaints/comments made that some teams have recieved hardware from Gigabyte for this competion already (unfairly giving them an advantage). This is absolutely not the case, it just so happens that several competitors have in the past recieved hardware (such as the EP45T Extreme) as part of their normal R&D/Marketing support to/from Gigabyte in their local region.
A typical example (and why i am a bit pissed about these comments) is myself who recieved the board many months ago for beta/OC testing.
Recieving a gigabyte board etc prior to the competition does not give any advantage above actually buying it yourself prior anyway....
wow competition is heating up
they really received those complains :confused:wtf
Yes, i think it was just a whinge that their own local marketting doesnt support them like others, but wrapped up under this competition as an excuse..... anyway
Right Deanzo. According to what T_M posted they have changed it to mean HOF records only, not by hardware categories...which quite honestly will be a challenge ;)
Vantage is the one exception because it's currently not point ranked @ hwbot. That is the best opportunity and will most likely mean a Vantage Performance shootout in Freestyle.
Hey Tim,
Is that HOF single and multiple cards ?
Also, and I'm just bringing this up now, so it's not an issue on the day. There has been alot of talk about "bugged" scores in 3D03 with 4870X2's. Are they still going to use that bench ?
Well, i'm little disappointed about that, change the rules 1 week before the competition is not fair IMHO , I don't even have time to buy a gigabyte x48 to try to beat HOF.
This means anybody gonna use 4870x2 ? and what'up if nobody beat HOF score ?
really need a clarification from somebody inside gigabyte, maybe HICOOKIE can tell something more clear about that.
Anybody know that to beat HOF score sometime need to bench entire night, 2 hours is nothing, even for just one benchmark .....well if anybody got 6.5g e8600 3d benchable is another story .......
Giorgio - this is coming from Gigabyte directly through me.
Have you submitted your proposed Freestyle hardware setup yet? If not you might not even be able to compete as the rules stated submission required a long time ago (for Gigabyte to review).
Yesterday i was told pretty much every freestyle setup submitted was 4870x2(s).
The rules havent been "changed", they just weren't clear and people have read it their own way.
Remember the rules did state WR.
Single card and multi-card will both count seperately.
E.g. WR single card '03, WR CF card '03.
Hope this helps?
(edit: Also the rules have a disclaimer at the bottom stating that they may be changed at any time without prior notice.)
(Edit 2: I just triple checked the rules and am a bit confused about "in each hwbot category (bench, CPU, VGA)" - i will seek further clarification ASAP)
This is awesome. This is so cool that the community has gotten to this point. I can't wait to see the event unfold. :)
i have already submitted the hardware list long time ago, and, obviusly, i didn't not choose to use 4870x2 ....
your 2nd edit is the point, besides that i was cleraly told ( till yesterday) that the freestyle competition was about hardware league as is possible to understand from "in each hwbot category (bench, CPU, VGA)" .
And if it was intended from the first time, that the freestyle was about overhall WR, why did they ask a list of hardware, I was told that the list was necesessary to be sure that nobody gonna use too hold hardware ( i.e. 9800 as vga...), and this make sense.
If the target was overhall WR, doesn't make sense to ask a list of hardware, once is stated that mobo has to be GYGABYTE and vga has to be ATI, because anybody gonna use the last generation VGA if wanna have a chance to compete. That's logic IMHO.
I submitted my hardware list long time ago ( deadline was 1st of september), and I asked clarification before submit the hardware list. With the hardware I submitted, cannot even try to beat any overall WR ......
I don't think there are a ot of people which submitted 4870x2 as VGA ...
i thought it was about HOF W.R.s hence why i decided on 4870X2
OK, just got off the phone with further clarification.
The information i was supplied yesterday was wrong.
I have edited my post above for clarity, and will repeat myself here:
Gigabyte rules for the freestyle competition have been clarified:
Hardware category #1 scores for each benchmark on hwbot does count
For each record you will earn 1 point, so if you get the E8500 1M, Pifast, 32M #1's then you will get 3 points.
Freestyle hardware info must be supplied to Gigabyte for review, and low end hardwares will be denied.
My apologies for passing on information that turned out to be incorrect.
oh ok
makes no sense to bench with high end hardware because of the competition
i guess we'll just have to do our best hehehe
I was finally able to track down the location of the Hondo Hotel.
For those of you who might be interested you will find it, as well as the Leofoo Hotel, in the attached Google Earth placemarks file.
thanks , what is the cost of a room per night in these hotels ?
Your best bet is to go to Trip Advisor and search for the hotel you are looking for. Then you can choose to Get Rates. A quick look at Hondo comes to USD85 for one night (for 2 adults). The hondo booking also includes a hot buffet breakfast. I'm not sure about Leofoo.
Leofoo is slightly cheaper at USD70-77. We went with Hondo in the end based on comments in this thread and positive reviews on trip advisor about the hotel.
Hey Guys :D
