ya those temps are for my gpu loop.
D5 Vario Pump, Swiftech 240 Rad, Bullzeye Res, two EK 4870 modified blocks.
Loop configuration:
Pump > EK block 1&2 split sourced for even temp fluid > Res > Rad > back to Pump

and yes thats right two independent water cooling systems shoved into a Lian Li A05-B :)
i keep hearing in several threads that nylon stand offs should be used with EK 4870 FC , but i am yet to find a place that will have the mentioned stand offs that could work with this block.
If someone has an idea as of which store carries them or has them in stock please post a link.

The 4870 ver. 2 has no sensors @mosfets, but all GPU-Z-monitored temps are OK

Can anyone help with any updated info on the ASUS 4870 DK block. Looking at the pic on post #268 pg 11 , I think I have this board ref. I'm looking for a FC block. Looking at the EK-FC4870. Does the new ALm parts that Eddy Ek mention on post 292 pg 12 mean that block will work for me.

no, unfortunately the EK block will not fit on the DK card pictured in #268, you probably want to go with an MCW-60 + ENZO ramsinks for a great cooling solution :up:
Not even with a mod of some sort. I saw the earlier post where it appeared to shave a little off the metal. I'm not sure if that was a full cover block that cooled everything. I saw/read all the issues for the mosfet's and other heat areas. 1st wc setup for me.Quote:

well the mosfet does get hot my case(LL PC-A71b) does have a fan that blows right to the video cards location right now set to 900rpm to keep it quiet with that everything seems to work fine never tried it without it since like i said my case has a fan in that location already so why bother.
Anybody using the MCW60-4870? is that a good option?
i am, getting 840/1150, but in furmark vr's are getting too hot. i left the stock "heat spreader" and fan on.

thanks! should I be worried about the MCW60-4870 not cooling anything? I really like the block, but if it isn't cooling something, then i'd rather go with a full coverage block. I dont want to have to put a fan blowing over it or something.
I'm having a fair amount of trouble with my FC XSPC block. I mounted it on my VisionTek 4870 (512MB, ref design), and it died. I had just had a leak that killed my motherboard so I figured it had taken the GPU with it and I ordered a new 4870. This time an XFX 4870 (1GB, ref design again). I tested it to make sure it wasn't DOA and it worked in both my PC and my parents PC. So I go ahead and mount the waterblock. Now it is dead too (dead as in no video, and when booting with a PCI 2400Pro, the GPU isn't detected). I checked on XSPC's website and I did exactly what the tutorial .PDF said to do both times but I managed to somehow kill both cards. I have RMA'd the second GPU, but I'm both hesitant to use the XSPC waterblock and I wan't to use it so I didn't waste my money. Anyone have any idea what I may have done to damage both GPUs, and how I can prevent this with my newest XFX 4870. Thanks.

I have the Asus Dark Knight 4870 1GB non reference board i installed the EK 4870 Block from Sidewinders all i did was dremel out the part where the mosfet cooler gets attached as shown here by PCFlip i left the stock mosfet cooler on, that is just cooled by the air circulation of the case(although my case does have a (fan)120L near the videocard area running around 900-1000 rpm i think.
One problem i had when i first installed the block is that since it has no stand offs i bow/bended the card a little and it didn't work(properly but i caught it right away and removed the card, went to home depot and bought a few bags of 5/32 nylon washers glued 2 together with 1 dot(as in small amount) of crazy glue and used them as my stand offs put a set on every hole and tada! problem solve(also i kept a better track of the mount but stand off helped quite a bit.
i went from having GPU Diode(DispIO)58C, GPU Diode(MemIO)70C, GPU Diode(Shader)60C @ 22 Ambient( please note that this is with GPU fan set manually to 100%) to GPU Diode(DispIO)36C, GPU Diode(MemIO)47C, GPU Diode(Shader)35C under load my temps never go above 42-50-41 vs 94-106-98 when it was with the asus stock cooler+100% fan .
One thing that i find weird is how everest never tells me the temp of my Power Mosfet , could it be that asus removed the temp sensor fromt here or is one of the sensors posted above the power mosfet?
btw i am using the latest everest 5.0000.1664.

Hey gang...
so i have these two Diamond HD4870 1GB cards that i want to watercool with full cover blocks, but i dont know if any of the options out there will work, and need some input.... also would be wondering if Ek would be willing to manufacture an addon like they did with the Club and Golden samples cards...
here some pics... as you can see the large caps go all the way to the top of the board... but everything else seems to be similar...

Not shure if you guys know, But..
..a really easy way to make shure you get a 1.edition reference design card is to order a 4870 with displayport. NON reference cards have 2 x DVI.

So my question is this. What ever happened to having to cool this or these chips refrenced in this post? Do these need to be cooled because I see pictures on here where people are not cooling them?

No one answered me but, I was going to try better cooling on the main controller chip any way. I went ahead and faced a nice powerfull not to loud I think,, 40mm fan in between my case and the area of this main controller chip and all last night I had no issues at all with this over heating black screen then reboot issue I was having. I would then have to answer my own question by saying yes these chips mentioned need better cooling as well.
I dont think anyone had any problems, I never did anyways and I use the 4870 for folding sometimes too.. most of the time now. :DQuote:
