There is a CPU N/2 option in the bios that allows another .5 to be tacked on to the multiplier.
I am not sure if that is an exclusive on the 780i. There has been some debate over 8500 vs Q9450. The problem with the 9450 is its 8 multiplier. However, will the CPU N/2 option work with a quad and make the effective multi 8.5?
If so, then overclocking the q9450 will be a tad easier correct?

Im having some problem with my new rig(XFX 780i and 8800gt@ SLI) and nvidia driver, my regular PSU Enermax Infinity 720w gaveup the day before i put this things in, now im sitting on a Ipower 600w PSU.
It put my gfx in endless loop and so on:( and advise or tips? and if someone could share there setting would be great:)

Ok, it seems that my ISP was having some issues and pictures were being stripped from the forum. That made it look like the pencil mod post was a dead one, but i see now.....
The picture shows the resistor as a 100K ohm resistor. I understand the point of a pencil mod is to try and lower that resistance by a certian amout/degree. What is the target resistance we're looking for there?
I've measured mine and it is dialed to 100K. So I just need to know what I'm trying to tune it to with the pencil lead.

icon57, i noticed you have the same psu as me and same size case. how did you manage to get all those wires tucked inside with tri sli? i only have dual sli and three hds and there is no room for all the wires inside, half of them are sticking out.
also, how do you guys monitor your SPP/MCP temps? in the bios it tells you MCP but i dont see SPP anywhere. also i want to be able to see them in windows while stress testing.

yup, the psu is great. i like the modular cables. as for MCP temps, in the bios i think it was somewhere b/w 50-60. but that was at stock speed i think. i dont know how much it went up while stress testing because i dont know a way to see the temps in windows. are you getting the 106 reading from the bios or from software?Quote:

I cannot vouch for 780i , but the Fuzion block on the Maximus formula SE helps laods on the NB and SB too (same basic idea ), I lost about 15°C on the NB and about 10 °C on the SB with that restrictive block.... maybe it's the NB no longer heating up the extra components linked to it...Quote:

It seems that I'm having some luck with the MCP temp as it has stayed at 54c.
All the voltages are on Auto but I set the SLI Ready Memory to Max.
This test is on air but I'll soon put the mb in my case and hook up the water.

I added the image of my CPU-Z SPD tab. I didn't realize that my OCZ memory was being recognized as 'SLI Memory Detected' until on reboot I noticed in on the initial BIOS screen. I've had these OCZ modules since 06/08/2007. So I'm guessing if you have a EPP timing tables then you have SLI-Ready memory!

I had that problem. My computer wouldn't post but would show FF. I fixed it by taking the little spring on the back of the motherboard and make sure it was grounded.
I just got my 780i today and was wondering if any one else is running with a q6700. This is a great board I will have to say my self. I jumped from 2.66 straight to 3.33 in no time flat with out any hickups I am currently running prime right now to make sure I am stable. So far so good. I am a little over an hour into prime. ne other thing is that Hardware monitor does not read mb temps right what is everyone using to report temps on the 780i? Thanks in advance.

It works fine with the 45bm processors.
Incidently Everest will display the MCP temp in windows. Mine never exceeds 55C

I've been tinkering with my eVGA 780i since last weekend.
Finally, 5 days later I've got an overclock pegged down.
With the E6850, I've managed a 3.825Ghz overclock with a 1700 FSB. The CPU needed a slight Voltage bump but the North Bridge, South Bridge, and every other motherboard voltage has been left at AUTO in the BIOS.
Has someone taken on the chore of developing a 'chart' per-say that shows how much extra voltage they needed to give the different components to achive a given FSB? Like, how much to hit 1750, 1800,1850, etc.etc.etc.
has anyone had problems with their ram on 780i's yet? my 4x1gig OCZ 1066,mhz SLI's wont boot if set properly but my $16 1gig of generic 800mhz clocks mad. i keep getting A0 post error.

yeah my second 780i did that same thing. this is my 4th one now and all have had problems. im tired of this board. i want 790i NOW. they should let me upgrade to the 790i seeing how many problems i've had on the 780i's.

yeah i noticed how bad the vdroop is. i set my vcore at 1.3625 and while running prime cpuz/everest report vcore at ~1.27. whats the maximum voltage the 9650 is rated for by intel?
there is a simple and safe vdroop mod on the 1st page you should try.
How did you get all the temp readings in your Everest - I only have "Motherboard" (which is usually only 7C), GPU and Hitachi??? I have the Free version of Everest - is yours the full version?Quote:

If that's the case you can you can use this tool to correct EPP timings http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=20349 .That's what helped me when my memory was not showing as SLI ready.
well this is interesting. i looked in the SPD tab like you said and in the timings table only the first two columns have values. they are:
1st column:

All 4 slots show the exact same values. Also, in the table above the timings for the part number it says: OCZ25331024V.
however the part number should be: OCZ2N1066SR2GK
i bought 2 sets of the above from here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227181 and the stickers on the actual ram have the correct part number and it looks like the one pictured also.
it doesnt look like the part number it thinks it is: http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...0_value_series so im not sure whats going on. ill try that spdtool you mentioned.
edit: i ran the spdtool and it also displays the incorrect part number.

I had a big problem doing this. Per usual, evga uses about a pound of thermal grease on all the chipsets. I cleaned that off, nicely AS5ed all of em, and reattached the heatpipe assembly. The damned heatsinks dont touch the nb/sb without a massive layer of AS5........Quote:

also, put ceramique on the mosfets not AS5, AS5 is capacitive. AS5 can go on NB and SB provided you isolate the rest of the green PCB with electrical tape to cover the resistors all around the 2 dice. There are also some resistors on the board itself that will touch the heatsink if you remove the rubber spacers, you need to cover those up too.
running 400x10 right now with 1.45v set in bios, 1.42v idle, 1.35v at small FFT load. be aware if you do the mod, vdroop is important, and it is especially important with crappy boards like these. there is a reason why vdroop is a whole 0.1v, it is tuned that way because the voltage regulation on these boards is garbage. the mosfets have as much as 0.1v of oscillation, so doing the mod and setting the voltage to 1.35 isn't going to earn you much. right when the load starts, the voltage will dip to 1.25, and then stabilize at 1.35v, and when going from load to idle, it will jump to 1.45v, and then stabilize at 1.35v. this takes milliseconds obviously, not enough for you or any software to measure, but in those milliseconds your cpu can crash. so be careful what you do, vdroop is important, don't get rid of it. if you need higher load voltage, just increase vcore in the bios.
I have done two things now with the same results:
1) Migrated existing disk partition and ran with eVGA 780i drivers.
2) Bare, ground up XP install using eVGA 780i drivers.
I am having the same problem - the machine with sometimes run for a period and then Blamm :mad: - Blue Screen and the error I am getting is complaining about a issue with evga.exe (or com, or dll, I forget).
I am running a eVGA 8800GTS for video. Other than that, the only other issue I have had is reading from the SATA DVD on the same RAID controller as the disks (no, I have not included the DVD's in the array in BIOS).
I have tried the drivers that came with the board and video. I have tried the latest drivers from both eVGA and nVidia. I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest available on both the DVD's and MoBo. I still get the same results.
Anyone have other suggestions or solutions? Is the evga.exe a MoBo driver, or Video? For a while there it seemed like maybe the DVD's were culprit. Does anyone know, is there an issue with running optical drives off the same controller as a RAID5 with 3 disks? :shrug:
I will be pinging eVGA with the same questions. I need to find an answer or I have to return the board (and I think I am already too late for that!).

Thats not bad at all.
From waht I have seen from other sites, the e8400 plays just fine on it.
well I have a first casualty of the evga boards, the dreaded FF error message when booting up as it does nothing. Its very weird as I used that 780i board in my rig for a month and then gave it to my best friend and popped in a new one for myself. when he went to install it, it stopped working, now it could be either the board just died or he caused a short in it.
FF= Fully Functional. How is that dreaded?
Regardless, sorry to hear that your friend killed the board b/c of mishandling it (likely).
I got the "FF" also. Was working fine before that happened. When trying to boot, it goes straight to "FF". Tried everything that EVGA support suggested but nothing worked, they said to RMA it.
One thing to note guys, if you plan on overclocking with 4gb of ram, you shouls use no less than 1.5v on the NB.
