You'd better not take that risk, you might blow up the GPU.

Hmm okay, will try to get some other stuff. Today i was in stuttgart and forgot to buy some..
That's a shame, you could buy one online at www.conrad.de or something if you can't get it local.
Tortured my card some today:

:)
Nice one! :toast:
Want some 9xxMHz GPU too.. :p:
Good work guys
I scored a Vapo PE stand alone today and Im going to try to graft it onto my modded G92 to see what it can do .
:D
First step done, now i need to fix it on the pcb an do something to measure the voltages. :)
http://www.abload.de/img/imgp32751j1.jpg
Finished now. Maybe i will do the mod for Vddr3 later. I have some samsung on it, i think it should be ok without a mod. :)

funkflix,
Looks very nice!
What brand / model is your card?
daayyymmm looks like some mad soldering skillz. got any macro shots of the solder points? How did you do it?
I'm afraid of volt modding my card. don't wanna screw it up.
Very neat, i like it!
How does it clock now and what cooling do you have on the card?
Thanks! :)
It is a Zotac, but not the AMP! one.
Forgot to do some macros of it, but if i will recieve my other watercooling stuff soon, i will do some.
Thanks too! Back in windows now first time with this card, never tested it before.. Modded it out of the box. :D First thing now is to get some knowledge about actual nVidia gfx... Last one i had was a 7900GX2. I wonder why rivatuner 2.06 does not work properly with this gfx? Which tools are recommended for nVidias at the moment?
Will report about results later. :toast:
Cooling:

http://www.abload.de/img/88gts_back_wakuevex.jpg
Nice man.
Riva Tuner v2.06 does work with this card but needs a little modification;
If you have RivaTuner installed, browse to the folder where you installed it.
You should find a cfg file there, click it to open, it will open in notepad.
Scroll dow till you find this line: G92 = 610h-61Fh
Now add this line right under it: G92 = 600h
Save and enjoy Riva Tuner. ;)
Thanks, works flawless now!
Damn, i always thought something is wrong with my temperature readings on my 2900XT, bcs. i had always around 29°C idle and just 4-5°C more load. But now with the GTS i have exactly the same temperatures.. Ergo this D-Tek FuZion is some awesome peace of cooler! :toast: (25°C water)
http://www.abload.de/img/zwischenablage02tji.jpg
Running rthdribl for about 10 minutes now. :)
Glad it worked out fine for you, now max it out. ;)
Run the FUR benchmark. It'll really heat up the card, a lot more then rthdribl. Although it doesn't look nearly as nice.
Get it here
I'm not for sure if they need to be sinked, but these tiny chips are sinked on the stock cooler.
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/5719/hsky0.jpg
And so is the MOSFET shown.
And this chip gets VERY HOT!
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/398/hotchipxs1.jpg
Nice mods BTW!
Thanks! :)
I know they are all covered by the stock heatsink, but i have two 120mm blowing above the whole area, for the 2900XT it was enough too.
http://www.abload.de/img/imgp32225rz.jpg
Can run 3DMark '06 at 820MHz Core with the mod deactivated, now i will try what i can reach with mod. :toast:
http://www.abload.de/img/gts_oc380.jpg
881MHz at 1.302V idle and 1.356V load so far. :toast:
http://www.abload.de/img/gts_881mhz_1.356v_loqi5.jpg
Edit: For 900MHz i need to up the Vgpu to 1.394V at load. Still good imho! :toast:

Hi,
Just read the entire thread.......................
My card is an Inn03D 8800GTS 512mb (G92)
No mods yet.
vGPU 1.110 idle, 1.186 load
vMem 1.902 idle, 1.901 load
Have not taken it apart yet. Anyone want to guess what Memory Chips I have from the voltage readings here ??
Have overclocked with Rivatuner and tested with Atitool (Max find artifacts - Slider fully to the left)
Max best stable clocks are c/s/m 792-1890-1098 fan at 70%.
The FUR thingy gets the card real HOT to like 68/70C (22C ambient) after 5 mins. Is this TOO hot ?? (Stock HSF@70%)
OK, Time for benchies.....................:)
Hal2710
PS: Must update my Sig.
Edit. Sig updated.
Funkflix, that is a very good result, mine needs more to run 900MHz stable.
Ran 2006 this afternoon and fell only 14 marks short of 17K, lol.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ts/0616986.jpg
At least it gives me something to shoot for. :)
Just tweak more Zeus, this is my score just on air and the cpu at the same speed, thinking if i had the same freq on shaders and core i would had 17200-17300.
Alex, with all due respect, something is fishy about the way your score is calculated.
Look at this, these are your individual scores calculated, the other one is my score:
I want to explain to you how sexy that is.
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/398/hotchipxs1.jpg
Very nice!
There are 2 different scores shown on the screen. 16,693 is in the foreground and consists of 7659/7118/4320. 15,691 is in the background and consists of 7115/6537/4309.
Is that OC'd gfx card w/ hard-mod vs. OC'd gfx card w/o hard-mod?
Nup,just at those frequencies it showed Gpu-Z.However i don't know to say,i will rerun that at the same freq to see what is going on.
Don't worry man, your 16K score might be legit, mine was just bugged.
Reran it and this came out:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/Z3us/17K06.jpg
Not to shabby for a dual core huh? :D
That is definately 19K with a quadcore.
Nothing bugged about anything Zeus.
Alex has two runs showing, one before at 15k and then a second run at 16k.
You have mistakenly used the GT scores from the 15k run in your calc, then compared the 15k result it gives to the second 16k run.
Now back on topic please.
Two different scores is achieved by running 3Dmark once and getting a score, then rerunning without restarting 3DMark and getting your second score. Until you close the results window it doesnt go into the main window.
also modded my GTS and put it in a small SS.here is with -20C idle,-5C load and 1.59Vgpu.
I am going to be purchasing a GT 512 shortly....
Of these available at Newegg.com 8800gt 512 List, which would in theory be better for overclocking and voltmodding. If that is even possible to distinguish.
I will be Watercooling, and Ramsinking each 8800gt I install. I will also keep 2 120mm fans actively cooling the ramsinks.
I am handy with a soldering iron and mods. Opinions, suggestions and criticism welcome. Hopefully not to much criticism.
giorgos - nice work , is that phase on cpu and vid card ?
Hi,
I've lower the Vmem from 2.05 to 1.946V and able to go from 1050 to 1100 stable (Qimonda ram). Thanks to Jason4207.
Some fresh dutch air helped core and shaders but it seemed to have a negative effect on the mem or the mem is just loosing speed.
I suspect the contact between the memchips and the fullcoverblock wasn't as good due to coldness shrinking the materials, very little of course but enough to make contact slightly worse.
I have to remount the block with a bit more t.i.m. in between.
Nevertheless i had a nice run last night that puts some quadcore to shame. :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ts/0617595.jpg
Unfortunately the orb is a mess and i cannot submit this one.
I also had a good run last night. This is 1.35v idle in 69*F ambient...all air!
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/6353/newhighlo9.jpg
Did a little recent remodeling inside the case as well.
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/617/beautyki5.jpg
Nice work guys , Im surprised to see my 17887 run still holds strong . Zues - those very highly clocked 45nm dual cores do run well dont they ?
Im retiring these parts to my 24/7 pc as I redesign my performance rig .
.
While I do agree having the CPU score in there keeps the overall score from reflecting current real-world gaming performance, it does help reflect overall computing power.
If games can ever fully utilize the extra cores then the overall score may have more gaming performance relevance. You can't fault Futuremark for thinking additional cores would be beneficial for gaming when they released '06...maybe one day they will be.
And you can always just look at the 3 individual scores to see if you have better gaming performance or encoding power (or both).
BTW: Thanks for all the help on the vmods VJ!

Can anyone provide some soldering tips? I successfully soldered my two wires to one outer leg and the middle leg on my 1K variable resistor. I tinned the other ends of the wires in preparation for soldering to the card. I first tried to solder the ground wire to a solder pad. The solder will melt, but it just won't stick to the solder pad. I'm using a 15W soldering iron and 60/40 solder.
Try practicing on something besides your $300 gfx card. ;)
The solder pad has to melt as well for the 2 objects to fuse. Make sure the area has been cleaned well w/ 90+% alcohol, and putting some flux on the area can help as well. When soldering you aren't trying to make anything 'stick'. You have to make the 2 objects into 1. The solder on both pieces has to melt for this to happen. If the solder pad is connected to a large area (this happens a lot w/ ground connections) then the heat can be wicked away very quickly from the area your trying to melt. You may have to hold the iron on that area for longer than other areas. Which spot are you trying to solder to? Perhaps a better ground location can be used.
Hey all
My old GTS died :( (R.I.P.)
Don't know why
But RMA was successful
New GTS has SAMSUNG memory.
http://shrani.si/t/2J/dl/15ce18U0/1/dsc01046.jpg
Memory OC (no Vmod) to 1210 for bech and 1160 24/7.
-GPU/shaders 890/2133 1.33V 24/7
-GPU/shaders 920/2250 1.45v bench (for now)
TRUE120 on 9650 - Stock air on the 8800 with 1.35Vgpu.
Wow, this Samsung mem is soo nice, it almost wants to make me get rid of this card and get me a new one with Samsung.
Oh well, 1150 on my Qimonda ain't that bad.
I can run mine at 1150 as well (not sure its Qimonda even) but anything over 1050 when playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will crash!
weird.
I have made a 50 turn vr with the range 475-270 ohms. Does that go low enough I would guess yes, but you never know. I have the samsung mem chips just want to make sure that the 20k is still fine with those. Thanks
Well at least it starts at 475Ohms. You should be OK. Only way to know for sure is to try, but I'd guess you will be able to get at least a significant jump in vGPU. You should have very fine control of the voltage as well.
20k should still be fine on the Sammy RAM chips. Please post your results as I'm curious if the Sammy chips respond well to voltage. If they don't there is also a mod to reduce the voltage to the memory chips, but I don't think that'll be necessary w/ the Sammy's. The Qimonda chips definitely like less voltage, though.
Recieved my second GTS today and it has samsung ICs too!
Hopefully i can run both at 900MHz core in SLI. :D
Now i have installed the mod on the PNY too. :)

What do you guys use to glue these components to the PCB? Hot glue?
Lachinois
I ended up using a 1kohm vr. Now, after I have completed the mod. When I check the ohms between the two points on the vr. I get 14ohms enough to sound the beep on my multi meter. I understand its not going to read 1000ohms hooked up but that close to zero bothers me. Is this normal??
NM, I found that the normal resistance is ~ 15 ohms. You guys prolly already new that tho.
Hey guys, I finally did my voltmod on my G92 GTS, but I'm rather disappointed.
The most stable thing I could get is 1.32V on load @ 850MHz core... a 50MHz increase... where my stock voltage was 1.2V on load
I'm using an Accelero S1 with Turbo Module for cooling. I would've thought that'd be enough to hit 900MHz core, but doesn't look like its the case... I know most of you here are using water cooling, which is not something I'm looking to invest in right now..
I'm using ATITool artifact scanner. The heat goes up consistently and the card usually starts crapping out at 60 degrees - which doesn't make sense cause it used to go to 70+ degrees on load with stock cooler when I overclocked...
I just get a lot of freezes on high voltages too (anything greater than 1.4V idle), even when temps are lower... does this have anything to do with OCP modding?
Can anybody share some advice? :D
ok here. just to give you an example; I bring voltage to 1.44 idle and 1.5 load. I set my frequencies to 875/1050, and its starts alright, I get a yellow dot or two, and then, once I go over 55 degrees, yellow blocks, lines, and then freeze... argh :dammit:
You have to high temperature!
How is it high? Most people I ask say that anything under 80 degrees is fine... I'm running around 60 degrees on load with a voltmod... I think that's pretty decent for air cooling...
Don't raise all core, shader and memory at the same time.
Rule out the memory by keeping it at stock speeds, then just raise core and gradually raise shaders little by little.
Yellow dots can be core but can also be memory, yellow triangles and squares on the other hand are most likely shadere errors.
More than anything else, try to keep the core temp below 50ºC, i've seen quite a few reports of the core getting instable over 50ºC.
Yeah, I am keeping memory at stock speed, I just indicated that value to say which overall speeds I'm running at that stable, but when I'm testing the vgpu increase, I keep memory at stock, of course...
When I soldered onto the point, there are 3 optional places to solder surrounding it, I only soldered the one crucial point in the middle, think if I get the other points soldered in would give me better voltage fidelity?
Nah, no difference since it's only the feedbackvoltage you manipulate with this VR, it triggers the IC to generate higher voltage, that's all.
Did you try to raise core/shaders unlinked?
I'm trying this now in RivaTuner, what do you recommend I set the load/idle voltage as well as the core and shader to?
Like, what values have most people been getting?
It depends on what you're after, for 24/7 stay below 1.3V idle, just to be sure.
Voltage ain't that important, just try to keep the core below 50ºC.
For benching, don't go over 1.47V idle but you will need much better cooling for that.
For example, with that voltage, mine stays around 34ºC idle 42ºC load, watercooled that is.
For results others are getting, read this thread:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=169870
Get some better fans for your S1. Those turbo modules don't move much air. Also make sure to blow air all over the card w/ other fans.
The S1 is supposed to get comparable temps to a HR03GT; which I have. I get temps around 51* under ATI Tool load @ 1.35v idle. When idle temps are around 39.
I get 837/2106/1107 24/7 stable, and 864/2268/1152 bench stable at 1.35v idle.
These cards can operate at high temps, but they will run faster and more stable w/ cooler temps.
I did the mods was easier than I remember. I set the vgpu at 1.3 idle. The highest I can go is 850. Yeah, that kinda sucks temps stay below 35c. Now, the vmem mod I set at 2.1 from 2. I went from 1040 to 1100 and its not done. Played crysis for an hour or two at 850/1100. I will upload some pics if anyone wants to see.
Im hoping to do the same but mine will only be water cooled . I havent joined the phase/LN bandwagon yet . My first card is Quimonda chipped so I just know if I buy a second one and its samsung chipped then I going to want a second matching samsung chipped card .....
:D
Here's the pictures of the vmods. I threw in a pic of the rad placement in this case cuz I like it.
I'll push this ram as far as it can go in a minute and be back with updates
ok I still haven't maxed out the mem on this card. Its at 1200 I bumped it up 10-20mhz at a time ran the firefly test in 06 looped 3 every bump. Mem is at 2.12 and the core is at 1.44 load. Next is the prommy on cpu.
i've made today some mods on my BFG GTS...
vgpu, ocp, cap mods + measure points
can't wait for some subzero action with :D
but at first i'm going to test it on air...

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5579087 18.4k with this vmodded card 1.6gpu 2.1mem. It was clocked at 881\1200.
Wow Wolfgang your q6600 gets 4.3ghz benchable on water , what batch etc is it ? With those mem clocks thats samsung mem right ? What are your shader clocks ? Do you really need 1.6vgpu for 881 MHz ?
Nice work.
thats under phase an old mach1 that has been fixed up a bit. Samsung ram chip at 2.1. The core I dont understand it did not go over 35c 890 locked up on me twice at those volts
Those "BL 121" chokes really get warm when clocks and vGPU are raised - I'm looking at 82ºC measured from the side of one of those buggers. Mosfet heatsink only reaches 65ºC so it really is the coils that are scorching down there.
So, do you think it's advisable to throw some sinks on the chokes as well?
Hello,
Hello
I want to ask something:
(I'm noob on electronics so...)
This first picture on the first post was to do the vmod and vmem mod
I kinda understand
but what is the mod in the second picture?
using that 4 pins plug ?
is it just for connecting the 2 points or do I also have to plug it ?
what is it for ?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...GTS-vMods2.jpg[/QUOTE]
That 4 pin molex is just for measuring Vmem and Vgpu, you don't really need it, it's just for convenience. :)
another one with single card on air with 1.35vgpu.

my result after mods @ 1.4v all air
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/5...rcooledxq1.png
interesting, couse for 860mhz 1.3v is more than enough and on the other hand the memorys was stable at 1100mhz easy with stock cooler but now at 1050+ are unstable couse i don't use heatsink on them, so i need to solve this soon...
^Yeah, it's sad that 3DMark is just a CPUMark with 3D graphics.
:(
FurMark is pretty much the only actual *3DMark*.
Is it more relevant to compare using 3D05 since it removes the score boost from having a quad core ? Guys still run 3D2001 and some 3D03 but 3D05 seems to be used least .
Guys this thread is the nuts! Thanks for sharing. I have a BFG gts and hr-03gt coming in tomorrow.
Here's my OCP modded card (which im yet to test):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...cture010-1.jpg
T_M, do you have Samsung memory on that card?
hey, this is my first time to do a vmod on a video card, may i know where our fellow Americans order the trimmers from?
thanks
Okay I need to ask a question. Now I got my GTS on water and load temps stay in the low 50's under load. I'm able to go up to 880core, 2150 shader and 1100 memory with 1.382Vgpu. Now the moment I try to go higher on the vgpu, say 1.390 or 1.4 I'll get frozen screens in 06 and 03, well to be honest in most of the 3d benchies. Could this be OCP kicking in. I know 1.390 sounds low from what I heard, but at 1.390Vgpu the load voltages will go as high as 1.48 to 1.5 in some of the benchies.
http://www.mouser.com/home.aspx
Not OCP. OCP would be a black screen. The added heat from the additional voltage may be causing lock-up. Once over 50*C you are on a fine line of stability at these high clocks/voltages.
Hi,
i'm thinking about buying the new gts.
does anybody know which cards have samsung rams?
the BFG i bought from newegg.com was samsung memory. i can do 820/1100/2035 on stock voltages.\
i see there are lots of options, but which one is recommended?
http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine....user_Wildcards
I like to use this website to search: http://www.alliedelec.com/
I like the way they show a pic while you search...makes it easier. But, I've heard they have a minimum purchase of like $25, but I can't confirm this.
Then you just take the part number and plug it into Mouser to get what you want.
Here's a list off of Allied: http://www.alliedelec.com/Catalog/In...513+4294912030
Just pick one that looks like it'll work best w/ the way you want to mount the device on the board.
