sold out... how long did it take?
Wow... that was really fast. Now we just have to wait for the rest of the order to arrive (whenever Ian has a chance to finish and ship them).
By the way, if anyone happens to come up with a better name for these, shoot me a PM. :)
damnit, just got back fromm lunch. Checked right before I left.
I just wasted a month waiting for these, SOB, so pissed off now. Very depressing...
My maze 4 is Fging worthless POS.
I hate you all. But theres no way im goign to let my 8800GTS sit outside my case any longer.
I'm so :banana::banana::banana:ing screwed now its not even funny...
hmm maybe we can raffle for a name... a little competition of sorts!!!
maybe Petra can thow in a bit of a prize... :)
I'm so effing pissed off right now I dont even know what to do i feel like throwing my video card in the trash, waiting since before X-mas and I have to get in a 10 minute window at work? I can't beleive they really sold that fast unless the shipment was only like 20 of them...I think someone got greedy and bought them all.
I'm definately not waiting any longer I'll tell you that, I missed the first group buy and now the second time they went for sale. I'm not going to wait another month and get screwed again. Do what you want but I know I'm not waiting. Seems to me that these days core only blocks are just as big a waste of cash as full cover since you can do :banana::banana::banana: for mosfet sinks anyways.
Too bad too cause I could have just got that DD Full cover block last week when I had to ship new tops now I have to pay for extra shipping once again.
-$120 for me I feel great...
I can't belive I went without my PC for a month just for this vaporwear BS.
Justintoxicated, there is a thing I don't understand at all. If you bought a 8800GT or GTS or whatever, the stock cooling is already there. Why didn't you ride on air till you get lucky and grab the ramsink. By then, you can prep them for watercooling ;)
Also, you have another shot at ChilledPC as they will get them in stock shortly and maybe in black ;)
I'm guessing that unless someone was greedy like justintoxicated mentioned that they only got 5 or so sets. I know I only bought 1 set.
Not defending the rants, but I think it's more that we've had our cards stripped down and waiting for a month or so. I've had mine stripped, cleaned and waiting since around Dec. 15th or so. Figured I'd wait it out and grab a pair of these sinks and install the AC S1 all at the same time, instead of putting everything back to together (the retail HSF) and use the 8800GT (which hasn't even been used yet).
I can easily understand everyone's frustration -- compounded with the long wait, the small initial shipment to Petra's (with no pre-order system in place) and that they were sold out in less than 10 min.
Not going to waste time ranting over spilled milk, just weighing my options now on what to do.
I removed it to take a picture for this Iandh, it can be re-used but then I'll have voided my warranty by removing their TIMS. So no I can't just use the stock cooler.
Now the search for a full cover block with no acrylic. I may just have to sell the card and go with ATI like I should have (might be cheaper to cut my losses, go ATI, and then I can re-use my Cooler). But perhaps DD will be cool and be able to provide a derlin top... I don't know.
edit: is anyone else making a full cover block with something other than acrylic tops? Looks like the EK tops are out of stock too, I'd just get that at this point if I could find a derlin top for it.
I love to dismantle things too. It's just not very smart to do to something, when you need its function, and parts aren't on-hand to restore that function. Either you shouldn't have dismantled your card's stock cooling, or should've put it back on, per your needs for its function.
BTW, I'm running an 8800GT in my machine, on stock cooling. On the table next to me is a pump, radiator, and swifty MCW-60, all new in packaging. To top things off, I paid for a pair of these plates over a month ago. I'd love to play with them, but demand tells me that everyone else wants a pair too. Just appreciate the fact that you've still got your money in pocket.
Petra and Ian, how about "Cool Plates GT?" Model number: CPGT88-G92 :p:
True indeed. If you think about those that did order 2...that's like half the shipment, ha. Well, good job & congrats on those that did get 'em!
Reminded me when Amazon had the 360 raffle thing around thanksgiving and how fast those went and brought the site to it's knees.
The tims have depressions on them now so i don't think they are really re-usable. No it did not have a sticker on it, but I'm still hesistant to put my own Ceramiq on it because these days companies seem to look for any excuse to void warranty. Considering every Nvidia card I have ever purchased eventualy dies (usualy the memory goes bad) the warranty is somewhat important. At the same time it would be stupid top Liquid cool the Mb and CPU and not the video card IMO, esp when you just rebuilt / hacked up your case to do just that.
 That's hilarious! So, you mean to tell me that the application of an aftermarket paste is going to void the card's warranty, whereas removing the heatsink won't?!?! Here's a clue: neither action will inherantly void the manufacturer's warranty, as long as you live in the US.
Check out the Magnussen-Moss warranty act... In short, it says that the manufacturer is responsible for proving that a consumer action is responsible for failure, prior to denying any warranty claim.
Well, like others, I didn't foresee the month wait and the smaller than thought shipment to Petra's (I was guessing at the very least 50 would have been shipped due to the high interest and demand). Kind of wish Ian told us 10 were only shipped. We all kind of waited holding our breaths each day as Ian had to attend to private matters (the move, work, etc) and then the holidays came up. Totally acceptable though, as we all have the real world to deal with, just bad timing I guess on my part. Luckily I've been using my older passive 7950GT for the time being.
I'd still wait another week, just due to the uncanny craftsmanship Ian has put into them.
Name sounds good to me btw.
EVGA and XFX allow users to change the stock cooler or replace the termal compound / TIM on the stock cooler w/o voiding the warranty.
I'm not going to go to court over a $300 video card, and just because there is an act does not mean this does not happen ALL the time, in fact it seems to happen more often than not!, Hence the reason there is the act. It just happened to my friend with his truck when the differential busted apart they denied the warranty because of the lift. He nearly had to go to court over this because the lift in no way affect the differential, not only that but his truck is often sold with the same size lift right from the dealerships (no fear package) Nothing like waiting for a court date for months over a $300 card...
And in the end think about it, how easy would it be for them to blame my Application of Ceramiq on the memory for the graphics card dying. I have to SHIp them the card, so there goes all my evidence...if it was an EVGA card i would not be so worried. The card is a BFG and was the only one out at the time of purchase.
Also I never said anything about Iandh either, that would not make sense because if it was not for him there would not be anything to even get disappointed about ;).
so what you are saying is that everyone who got to complete a order will get one and those who didnt lost out
Ha, I just realized how I missed them. I thought they'd be listed in the front row, being new and all or even mentioned in the update/store news. Didn't bother to scroll down to the 4th row.
Duh me and noted for next time!
Petra's is awesome! Just got an email from them with the tracking number. That's fast.
i know i better get one soon
Yes, Petras is awesome. I'd buy even more stuff from them if they stocked it (stuff like MB, CPU's, etc.)
I got my tracking number as well. :)
Just curious, how much did these go for in the various group buys?
wats a group buy
Justinintoxicated, by just removing the cooler on a BFG card, you already voided the warranty ;) There is no way you can put it back and still look stock since the core use some special compount (a silver TIM) and the ram use a white TIM.
I know what I'm taking since I own a BFG 8800GTS 640 MB and I know my warranty is now voided. I know I should have gone to XFX and EVGA but at the time of purchase, I didn't consider watercooling the card.
Don't waste your time trying to cheat the BFG warranty and accept the loss. You can sell the BFG card with the stock cooler since the warranty isn't valid for 2nd hand owners anyway then buy a card with modding-friendly warranty.
Sure you can, If the card dies just put the stock cooler back on using all the stock TIMs, ...I just would not want to run it this way since there would be poor contact. But it will look the same when they remove it regardless. I don't feel like I'm cheating the warranty since I have not done anything wrong, sometimes what they don't know won't hurt them. I purchased BFG because that was the only option at the time.
Holy crap this thread blew up over lunch!
I ran into a LOT of crap and personal obligation over the holiday, in addition to my 40+ hrs/week full time job. Honestly Petra's order would have been filled long ago if all had gone to plan. As of now all that is behind me and I finally am able to devote some real time to these.
I will update this thread daily with information on the production status. The first shipment I can guarantee is monday, and I will likely use express mail (UPS red is too expensive) so they can be in stock on tuesday. No promises but I may be able to get some out on saturday.
yes i got a set i just read email ladies and gents they have been shipped
How do you think I feel? I paid for my set in November and still have yet to receive them. In other words, you really don't have much to complain about and at least you haven't paid for them yet. Hopefully my set will magically arrive today now that I've posted this lol.
The last message I sent you was on the 4th that they were going to go out, which ended up being the Jan. 7th shipment; the last of which I've had trouble with. Your set will reship UPS on monday along with several others which should (hopefully ) wrap up all of my public orders for good.
The shipping issues I've had are exactly the reason I decided to go wholesale on these. I've pulled about $400 in merchandise out of my own pocket to keep people happy, and jeopardized the good standing of my paypal account with folks filing uneccesary claims due to problems that are completely out of my control. I've kept good records besides one or two members that slipped through, and I am damn impressed that I have managed to pull it off so well so far.
I'm not sure why everyone is b*tching. You need to remember this is a single individual that is probably working to fill over 100 orders. You act like he has a whole shop of workers making these things...this is just a side job also.
I think there is definitely a market for those ramsinks and I believe more players can be added to improve the availability.
If I can get the DWG file of the ramsinks and try to strike a contract with a local machine shop, it can be doable for a reasonable price.
w00p! Just ordered my XFX 8800GTS so now I'll have something to attach the ramsinks too!!!
Next week is going to be a fun one.
Did someone mention that these are going to be sold by Chilledpc also? and if so without rushing anyone when approximately will this be?
Cheers
*offers bribe*
:D
I'm not in any rush as I have not got my other wc stuffs sorted yet, just dont want to miss out!
A few of you have had to wait quite a long time for your sinks. I apologize that I was not able to deliver them within the promised timeframe due to the sheer volume of orders which I received; that was compounded by the fact that I had shipping issues, which I did my very best to resolve. At my day job we are working on an intense contract and I am trying my best to retain full concentration on that while still being able to provide these sinks. Luckily I enjoy my job and am otherwise happy in life, or I likely would have gone somewhat bonkers by now. :p:
I will be concentrating this weekend on sorting out the few remaining issues with orders, and if you are one of those that has been in conact with me in the last week or two, that means you.
For the rest of you interested, I will be working hard to get as many as possible done this weekend.
Thanks again all...
No, almost everyone including yourself has been very good about this. I appreciate it quite a bit. :)
It looks like the issues were basically that my local office got slammed for the holidays and someone there started screwing up.
I shipped five packages on the 7th, I remember walking in and dropping them all of them on the counter, and out of the five only one shows delivered as of today. There isn't really much I can do about that folks, besides do the right thing and replace the shipments. I was a dummy and forgot to get the receipt to make the loss claim to USPS. My fault, and my responsibility to bear the financial burden.
I just last saturday got back a lost VRM sink that I shipped almost two months ago, and it said "undeliverable" even though the one that I reshipped had arrived perfectly to the exact same address.
I had a similar occurance with UPS, a little over two years ago, when I was the recipient. As such, I'm beginning to think that all of the online ordering that has been ramping up over the same timeframe is overwhelming all of the couriers. Heck, DHL had plain-clothes workers in on their days off to deliver packages around Christmas time.
Back to the subject... A big *THANK YOU* to you for keeping us up to date, Ian.
Those are some AMAZING looking blocks
Got mine yesterday.
THANKS IANDH for all of your work. They sure are purdy.
I'll probably put them on my new card this weekend. Gonna run it on air for a few days to make sure it's stable before going water.
I also received my sinks yesterday. Unfortunately I only managed to take apart my 8800 GTS G92 before passing out last night from exhaustion. Haha. When I woke up this morning I installed the sinks along with a Zalman VF900 I had from an old 6800 GT.
I didn't have much time to test the setup this morning but from what little time I did have to test I went from:
IDE: 48C->40C
LOAD (ATITOOL error test): 81C->66C
The tests were ran with both the card and fan at stock speeds. I used MX-2 with the sinks and cooler. The ATITOOL error test was run for 10 minutes. Previously with air I was running the card at 815/2000/1915 @ 50% fan speed. I'll get to testing my old numbers tonight with the new setup. :D
Nice work Ian! I'll post some pictures tonight.
I made a phone call over the weekend, and now have a large run being done at a production shop with high speed machines. They also will come with a clear anodized finish superior to the beadblasted finish I have been providing.
I have a couple sets left over from what I finished over the weekend, so if you would like I can ship one of those immediately.
The new sinks will be back from the machine shop on friday, and will go out for anodizing for 2-3 business days. They should be in my hands to forward to Petra's wednesday or thursday next week. The shop I am using is always exactly on time with orders. They run the machines 24/7 until the entire order is complete, so I have gotten parts back as fast as overnight, and he said they have already programmed the machines and built jigs, they are just waiting for the cutters to arrive tomorrow to start the run.
I may have black anodized availiable as an option if the demand is high enough in the thread, please let me know
Man!! Those things are nice! I just saw them on Petra's site.
I'm gonna have to pick up a set for my 8800 when I get it!
The black ones would be really cool!
Do you think you can have a set made and show us a pic?
So how much are these new ones with the superior, clear anodized finish going to cost? Same as the original ones that Petra's sold out of in 10 minutes last week? I'm going to return the set I got at Petra's last week so I can wait for these new ones. I haven't even opened the set yet.
They will probably cost exactly the same. I would contract Petra's about the return, I am not sure what their policy is.
Tell me about it. A weight has been lifted off, that's for sure.
Also, I just confirmed that black and silver will both be available in high quantities.
There is a possibility that I may send them some more, I have given Tom from ChilledPC the option to receive the Rev. 2 sinks instead of the old ones I have completed for him. If so I may send the old style I have in stock to Petra's if Tom doesn't want them. If they sell out before the Rev. 2 sinks are in stock it is likely they will just update the description to "anodized finish" to indicate that they are the new sinks.
Cool. If The Rev.2 sinks go to ChilledPC, when would Petra's get a shipment of the Rev.2 sinks?
Nice Sinks saw them at Petras
Out of curiosity, is there any possibility you'd be willing to sell just the MOSFET part alone?
If so, how much?
What kind of TIM is everyone using when putting these new sinks on? How are you applying it? Using the same TIM on both memory and Vregs?
i use tuniq , tx2 i think its called
Here is a pictures of the installed sinks. I used MX-2. From viewing a couple of pictures of other installs it seems that I might need to back out my screws a bit. Haha.
That's because it's on a GTS, this time. :p:
Will these fit MSI 8800GT OC edition?
I am the new owner of Iandh's first set of sinks and his custom Waterblock...fantastic work. I feel priviledged :)
So these sinks only work on the 8800GT and 8800GTS G92 Version?
Do you work with the original 8800GTS?
Pic w/ the fan.
Looks like I have to reconsider my new dream setup: Ian's sink + VF900. I've been performing a bunch of heat tests (oZone3D fur, ATITOOL artifact scanning, running various benchmarks, etc.) tonight with two 8800GTS G92s (one card is stock and one card was modified with Ian's sinks + VF900). The results aren't pretty and that's why I'm still up at almost 3am still testing the cards. Haha. I think the problem lies with the VF900. Of all the tests oZone3D seems to generate the most heat. Running it in stability mode @ 1280x1024 windowed with MSAA 0 the modified card (fan @ 100%) will run up, fairly quickly compared to the stock card, to 85-90C+ and eventually cause the program to crash. Performing the same test with the stock card (fan @ 45%) temps will rise, quite slower then the modified card, to 75-79C+ (the temp will eventually settle around 78C). There's no crashing with the stock card. I used MX2 on the modified card and reseated the VF900 twice now.
I'm guessing with water Ian's sinks rock. I'm interested to hear how others have fared with air.
Your results are very different than mine with air cooling this card.
I had a vf700 on it for about a week and was topping out at 55C load, and now with an accelero S1 I am topping out just over 50C.
Almost sounds like poor contact on the gpu. Those temps are strangely high.
What exactly does an anodized finish look like? Anyone have good pics. of something, anything that's anodized? I kind of like the bead-blasted finish.
Most ram heatspreaders are anodized, many NB heatsinks are as well, Maglite flashlights, all kinds of different stuff.
The "clear anodized" sinks will look very similar to the beadblast finish.
I would like to think it's a contact issue between the VF900 and CPU but testing the modified card with games (high res/max settings), 3DMark06, ATITOOL, etc. to generate heat the temps stay lower then the stock card. This is what I expected and what lulled me into a false sense of security. But once I ran the fur test (with the settings in the post above) the picture quickly changed and what I thought was stable quickly turned into a mess. The amount of heat that the fur test can cause to be generated is impressive.
You mention hitting 55C at load. What do you define as load?
My new definition of load is running the oZone3D fur test with the settings above at the same time as the ATITOOL artifact scanner (for heat generation). Haha.
Thanks.
I just stopped by the machine shop, he has somewhere around 80 sets complete at the moment, so there should be no more stock issues :D
Parts ship monday for anodizing, and should be back within two days, shipment to Petra's should be wednesday or so.
These are gonna be SWEET!!! They look totally awesome.
I'll try to get some video of the parts running if possible.
iandh, you mentioned that you still have a few sets of your original bead blasted finish sets sitting around. Could you save one of those sets for my order + waterblock mount? I like the look of the beadblasting. Plus, I plan on placing a fan card adjacent to the video card to remove ramsink heat. The beadblast finish will be better for generating air turbulence on the ramsink surface which will increase its cooling efficiency.
