**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Wow, there's been a lot of activity in this thread over the last few days...haven't been getting my updates...oh well... :shrug:

So I've been monkeying around with this and (being a rookie Intel overclocker) so far I'm at 2880MHz (360FSB x 8) at 'stock' vCore voltage (which appears to be 1.35v). All other voltages (sans vDIMM) are stock as well. Highest load temps thus far have been 47c per core (via Core Temp) and it idles down around 25c.

Thing I'm curious about is that the voltage seems to have...'scaled' with my overclock. When I had things at stock, CPUZ & SpeedFan were reporting the vCore at like, 1.08v and would scale as the CPU required it. Does that sound about right? I believe I turned off all the Intel power management values in the BIOS too (except the 'thermal protection' item).
Just seems weird; never seen anything like this in my AMD builds before.

I have problems with dual booting Vista 64 and XP 32 on this board. If I reboot from Vista into XP, XP BSOD's. I have to shutdown the computer from Vista and turn the PSU switch off and back on then boot into XP to keep XP from BSODing on startup. If I'm just booting into XP I don't get BSOD, it's only if I have gone into Vista 64 and then try going into XP.

I looked at the error logs and such and it has to do with something still in the memory when XP loads up (I'm guessing that's why turning the PSU switch off and then on allows XP to load properly). Hope Abit can fix that. I have tried a few different nVidia 8800 driver's and I only have a mouse and keyboard hooked up. Latest P35 drivers. Lower clock speed doesn't help. Mem timing pretty loose. Orthos and Memtest stable.

i have the same setup with XP and vista 64 ultimate....i have no BSOD issues coming from vista into XP...i suspect you have a corrupted XP installation or you have a Intel INF corruption.

Can you tell me what nvidia drivers you have for your vista and xp? I have reinstalled vista and xp 6 times so far. I install XP first then install vista 64 which replaces the xp boot manager and I select earlier version of windows during boot. Also, are you using the latest intel drivers or the one's off the abit cd?

i was using an older nvidia driver for a long time, 93 series...it worked perfectly...now, i am using 158 driver with no problems...i heard some of the newer nvidia VC's are having problems with vista but not XP.

as for the intel driver, i've used the ones off the CD and the newest release on intel's website.

does this happen if you use vista 32 bit?

are you overclocking?

I have tried stock settings. I haven't tried vista 32. If we have near the same setup I don't see why yours would work and mine doesn't. It doesn't happen if I just use XP. If I reboot from XP into XP it never crashes it only does it when I reboot from Vista. Hmmm... I just tried disabling the floppy, firewire, and jmicron controller, that didn't help anything.

Do you have any experience looking at memory dumps? I have plenty of those. :p: I will also add that I have played CSS for hours overclocked to 3.2ghz and my 8800gts to 640/960ish without a single hiccup.

Edit: Also just tried removing my X-Fi. Didn't help :down:

Ace-a-Rue I found the problem! I am using 4x1GB of RAM. I took 2 sticks out and I no longer have any issues. I am guessing it has something to do with Vista utilizing all 4GB of the RAM then when I switch to XP it weirds out. I'm not sure if this is a BIOS issue or not but I will call Abit later today and ask them about it. Maybe they can setup a workbench and reproduce it.

I didn't notice any memory hole map options in the BIOS but my last AMD TForce 550 board did. Not sure if that would help or not but I didn't try dual boot with that setup.

For now if I want to dual boot I will just have to switch the PSU off and back on :p:

I already have that update installed. I think that has to do with installing vista. My problem is booting into XP after rebooting from Vista.

Edit: I fixed this problem by adding the following to my boot.ini for XP:

/PAE /3GB

Not sure which one of those fixed it. PAE is supposed to be on by default I believe (at least that's the way the Microsoft website puts it.).

well heck, in terms of which is better, I got an Abit AB9 pro for my wife will be here tomorrow, I'm thinking of letting her use the IP35 until some bios updates come out, and although a bit off subject, between the AB9 pro and Quad GT - are there any real performance differences on a dual core cpu? is the AB9 a better performer at this point compared to the IP35pro? unfortunately my budjet and the upcoming Intel price cut, I could not allow myself to get another C2D or Quad.. so I'll be using my P-D 805 smithfield cpu in the Wifes PC, whatever board she gets for the time being...

can anyone provide their bios settings for 3.6 (9x400) settings?

i'm not familiar with all these new voltage options such as GTL ref (which i belive is for quadcore overclocking)

everything at lowest voltage will probably do.... gtl and ddr ref i just leave as is....

Its no a matter of whos got the best board, its how one uses them.... Ive seen geeks with Corsair Pc2 8888s and running ddr1000 5-5-5-15 lol.... I dont look at reviews like that cos at what fsb were they testing? Theres so much more to a board thats its hard to say which is best, it depends on what youre gonna use it for, what hardware you got etc... For 965 boards I think the QuadGT or 965-s is the best, if youre a bencher with an E6600 or lower they are... but for somebody that wants a good reliable headache free 24/7 machine, those 2 are probably near the bottom.... so like I said, its what satisfies your needs the best is the best board.......

It's also overclocked by a smidge when you run it at stock settings to generate benchmarks wins, just like every other Asus board. :rolleyes:

I guess thats the board to get for somebody thats gonna run stock speed lol....

this board does 400 fsb easily. although i think i hit some sort of strap at 400 exactly, so i have it running 405fsbx9 1:1 memory

just bump nb, mch , VTT...etc up a hair, not much. you are barely stressing this board at 400fsb.

vdimm per memory. Ref stuff, i leave stock at 67%

this board can do it easily. and iam quite happy with the 13 hour prime stable i had the other night. 3.61 ghz..called it a day

i can boot in at 534FSB but isnt stable without some crazy vcore..was fun to play around with, and at least i know the board can do it.

bascially just bump volts up a hair, turn off unncessary chipset enhacnemnts and speed step. but you can leave virtualization and bit detect on at 400FSB. Perfectly stable with those set

it should be 1/2 my ddr2 voltage but it's less and i'm getting a warning in uguru...

interesting...i just noticed that my vcore on my v3104 Uguru is fluctuating downward a lot!...i have 1.53v for vcore and it is dropping to 1.41v...i see a downward drop in the 8 pin 12V also although that is not as large...it goes from 12.31 down to 12.24 and then back up...about every few seconds it varies.

i uninstalled and reinstalled uguru and it made no difference.

when i go into the bios...it hardly moves...maybe a 0.01 drop...maybe a defective uguru chip since the bios is almost steady as it goes.:)

i might try an earlier version of Uguru to see if i get the same kind of drop.

even in the bios it shows 0.60 when set to 1.8 volts.

i also tried orthos testing at 2.4 ghz (default) and orthos errors.

i've tried different video cards, 3 sets of memory, a different PSU and still have the same result.

i tried bios 6/6/07 and even 5/17/07.

i'm sending the board back and will try another.

Just got the board question, There is a auxiliary four-pin molex connector right under the pci slot, do i need to plug in the power for that not using crossfire. thanks

it says that the additional 5/12 volt plug is an auxillary power source for devices added to the PCIe express slots. (page 1-6 of the manual).

anyone experience Uguru showing a fluctuating Vcore as much as 0.12v....i just noticed this on my board...bios shows a stable vcore with only a 0.01 fluctuation.

EDIT:...discovered why!...i must of overlooked setting "CIE" to disable when i reset the bios on a failed overclock when trying high memory ratios.

Why would I be kidding?

People said that the ip35 Pro beat the DQ6 in the TH review. You said the P5K Deluxe beat the ip35 Pro.

If you look at the perf chart, your statement is true. However, TH stated that if you remove the slight overclock of the P5K Deluxe, it would be in the middle of the pack. Look at the perf chart again, and the ip35 Pro beats the P5K Deluxe.

all the boards are very close...it really comes down to price, and features that you want.

Hey guys I owuldnt trust uguru very much except for the standard overall voltage readings.

If someone can point out where to get vcore and other readings for voltage I will do some test, I know where the vdimm reading is at. Uguru doesnt track well at all for it. My vdimm stays close but goes up under load and uguru doesnt show that and neither does bios. Bios reads the same as uguru.

Just a thought .

I know I have stated how unhappy I am with Abits recent past record re buggy bios and updates in a timely fashion but I may actually buy this board due to selling nearly all my old mobo's yesterday :D

Not because it might be the best available ATM but mainly due to not wanting to buy yet another overpriced Anus or crappy quality Gigashyte ;)

I can live with the two lans being PCI (at least Abit gives you two, unlike the DQ6 with its $100 worth of junk metal :rolleyes: ) and the Abit is easily the best bang for buck with easily the best P35 bios on the market ATM :clap:

Check the voltage in CPU-Z.

yeah i did the same damn thing! i was let down for a second, then fixed it

still some droop, about .03 .usually steady though

from yesterday. Had all voltrages and VTT raised a bit. Was told today, that i could run stock volts! at this fsb, so iam benching right now..so far 40 mins orthos blend, same clock..same vcore..board is stable..i love it.

Just ordered all my parts for my build:

Abit IP-35 Pro
C2D 6420
2GB Corsair Dominator
EVGA 8800GTS
Antec HE550 PSU
Custom built WC: Swiftech Apogee GTX, BI Xtreme 2x120 Rad, Swiftech MCW60

I like this mobo since I can set it up without having to plug the front-side case wiring. It took 10 minutes to get it running. Out-of-the-box, it worked. No adjustments, nothing at all. I have it running at 300x8 at 1:1.66. I'll see if I can put Memtest on a USB and boot from it. I upped the RAM to 2.2 volts even tho it ran fine at 1.8 volts. I'll see if I can back that down now that I know why at first I couldn't get past code 52 (I had it setup as 1:2 and timings on AUTO).

Thats the old bios before the 5/17.... Im pretty sure were running at 1066 strap ( @ 514fsb) anyways so no need for adjustment.... Im still using the bios that came with the board, didnt want to change it in case the newer ones runs at 1333 strap :D


Comparison between IP35 and 965-s same timings and tweaks running 1:1... the 965-s stays at 1066strap regardless of fsb, a board running 1333strap would have been atleast 10sec behind....

i understood the strap information is stored in the boot block area and that is not changed unless you specifically put in the "WB" switch for the flash...OR....unless the new bios is coded to flash that specific area.

are you positive that the DFI board is not changing straps once passing a certain FSB, like the P5B did..same chipset!

Im pretty sure.... The only 2 P965 boards that do that is the Quad-GT and the dfi.... thats why at high fsb 1:1, they are only a lil slower than other boards using 2:3 divider ( eg 514x7 1:1 vs 400x 9 2:3 )... I had a commando before and at 500fsb its not even a close race vs the 965-s....

Commando vs 965-s... only 1M @500fsb... commando @ 1333strap... Its time small diff but in 1M thats huge....

no.... but the 965-s is fast..... Most every 965 board changes strap at 400fsb, you can stay at 1066strap if you boot at 399fsb or below and use clockgen to go up but they will top out at around 480fsb or so....

Like I said only the Quad GT and 965-s stays at 1066strap.... and can hit high fsb too....

I didnt really want to switch to P35 cos I thought it would be slow and I was surprised at how close it was to the 965-s....

If you look at the review at OCX, youll see the difference in speed between 1066 and 1333 strap.....

So dont worry about waiting for a new bios, this board is going as fast as possible :D .... I love this board now cept not having setfsb...

How do you guys get the nice blue screenshot in Everest? I DL the trial version but I cant find it.....

Start everest, click tools, click "Cache & Memory Benchmark", run, save. There's also a cpuid tool in there, much like cpu-z.:)

Decided to OC a bit more and on air it's at 333 x 8 tho I had to back the strap down to DDR800. Good news is I still haven't played with the voltages yet. I think 3.6 is possible one I get my WC installed.

Is this board really that much faster than the DFI P965-S Dark? I really had planned to wait for the P38 chipset before purchasing another board. I'd have to buy at least an 8800GTS to get the performance in games I do now with a single video card. Does anyone have some 3DMark06 scores with an 8800 series card and 680i, Abit P35 Pro & DFI P965?

The IP35 is actually a lil slower clock for clock than the 965-s, but with a 5:6 divider it gives you an option to run async at even high fsb.... The only thing is for the IP35 to be faster than the 965-s, youre gonna have to put alot of volts through your rams which you can only do for benches and not for 24/7.... To give you an example, on my runs above at 514x7 1:1, I was using 2.25v vdimm for both runs, but on the run that was using 5:6 divider, my vdimm was 2.8v...... For the IP35 to beat the 965-s, it needs to run 5:6 divider in cas4....

I run 400FSB 2:3 for DDR2-1200 @2.3v cas 5 on the DFI P965-S. I can't get board to do over 509FSB stable. 515FSB would be ideal which is why I'm considering the P35-Pro. Aren't you using crucial 8500's? What are your genie bios settings for the 515FSB along with voltages?

I was using Firestix 1000s on the dfi, but I think we have different boards cos I couldnt get 2:3 to work in mine lol.....

For 514fsb, my settings were

M3,M2,FF AA 4-4-4-10-4-24-2-11-10-2-8-6-6-5-4-4 bios then tighten up through memset...

Vdimm=2.3v vtt 1.5 vnb 1.6 vsb 1.6/1.05v.... good to 540fsb 32M stable....

I was using 4x 512 ballistics 5300 at first and even just using 2 sticks I cant get 2:3 to work past 580fsb:(.... But 1:1 high fsb was no problem....


400fsb 2:3 even at cas5 will be fast, and though 514fsb cas4 is faster, the difference shouldnt be too big..... If you like to bench then 400fsb 2:3 divider cas4 in the 965-s is pretty fast.......

one thing that i did not do when flashing to the 6 june (beta) bios was to flash the boot block!...well..today...i did flash with the "WB" switch and the results running PCMark 2005 was VERY satisfying...here are the before and after with PCMark 2005 as regards to not flashing and flashing the boot block.

net results...i am super close to the QuadGT at the same FSB (CPU Mhz) and memory clock speed!...QuadGT scored 9959...SO...i am within 78 points of my QuadGT...i call that a statistical tie!..YES!:up:

been overclocking today to see what the CPU and the mobo can do (i'm a bit of an OC noob tho haha)

Anyway, i reached 3.4 ghz @ 1.55 vcore, bit too much for me that, so right now i'm running it at 8 x 410 = 3,28 ghz @ 1.48
Orthos stable for over an hour now, I'll try to reduce the vcore a bit more

So far the board has been great. My previous computer i ran an ASUS board, one before that i had the Abit KD-7 KT400 board with which i never had problems. Happy with this one sofar, i suspect the CPU + maybe my cooler are the ones at fault in not going further than 3.4 Guess the older Conroe's were better.

Of course if anyone has any tips :D

right now it runs at 53 degrees C under load (Core 1 and Core 2). It was up at 57, 58 when i was pushing at 3.4

also for the record, the OCZ Reapers booted up fine. no problems.

when you flashed the bios, what switches did you use ace-a-rue?

this is what i used since i did save the original bios to my USB thumb drive...if you do not have the capacity then change the "sy" switch to "sn"!

/py /sy /WB /cd /cp /cc /CKS

do not overclock while flashing...and...don't forget to clear CMOS after the flash is complete...load default bios settings after clearing CMOS, save and reboot back into the bios to change settings from there.

normally you do not flash the boot block which contains all the memory straps and voltages unless the bios update is coded to flash that particular area...it is the last segment on a bios flash...if the area isn't flash during an update, you will see a green bar instead of a white bar on the very end of the flash line.

i used an USB thumb-drive.

if you want to find out what each switch does just type in DOS this syntax: awdflash.exe /?

Hey Ace-a-Rue, did flashing help at all with the wacky voltage issues?
I posted a few pages back that it does this to me too (even though I turned off the C1E and SpeedStep stuff); as a matter of fact, my vCore is currently at 1.26v...and when running two iterations of Prime95 it jumps as high as 1.375v (though CPU-Z and SpeedFan's voltage monitoring). Is that because of the CPUGTL Ref?

The bios 6 june (beta) is nice withe QuadCore :D

I have my CPUGTL on default volts and EIST and C1E disabled and I don't have that problem. I have 1.29-1.30 idle in uGuru and it goes down to 1.27-1.28 load. What bios are you using? I'm using shipping bios.

C1E and EIST enabled with my IP35E. Voltage drop as reported by Speedfan/CPUz is 0.02 at idle, and 0.04 at load (1.42 vs 1.46 in BIOS).

Vcore should go up with Prime. Sounds like you're stuck in power saving mode.

But yeah, it's bizarre; I was running Prime last night and just shut it off - while it was running it appears to have gone as high as 1.34v, but has now dropped to 1.3v...but the VID in the BIOS is 1.35v. :confused:

I'd remove the CMOS battery for 1/2 hour (also disconnect power from PC) and reflash the BIOS. Reset to Optimized default/Save/Exit. Boot into windows and recheck Vcore.

Don't have a schematic of this board so I can't tell you where to check for the actual voltage using a DMM.

Here in Slovenija price went up by 10%, wtf ????
