I hope the MAX LEDs are out in the open, I want to mod those suckers to red for a backlight
You'll need some 1337 SMD soldering Sk1llZ and equipment to do that :stick:Quote:

now this is a thread that should have been 5 star .... not some junk
This reminds me of the IC7 Max 3. It had all the needed voltages and basically the only board that supported 3v vdimm. The only problem was that you had to do a complete overhaul on the motherboard to use all of these "features" that Abit hung thier hat on.
I just hope they deliver this time around. Every product is going to have its issues and kinks, but the IC7 Max3 was a horrible failure.

Sure would be nice if they told us when to expect boards in retail ;)
also i wouldnt get it b/c this board is not yet mature, i might pick it up later when i get E6600 though, and when it has mature BIOS... which is why i chose 975XBX
very nice board and review....
AW9D-max will be same solid board if not better once vmodded..
reminds me of the IC7-Max3 one of the best 875 CanterWood
boards ever made......;)
Abit UK has stock & says that major UK retailers will have it by Friday.Quote:

I still have my IC7G MaxII my 9yr old now enjoys it with a 3.2EE ...... best 478 board i ever used as well ..................... 9 Abit boards not an RMA with any

I just hope that Abit doesnt do this again and another thing is I hope thier support is better this time than it has been before.
i know i sound negative, but i went through so many RMAs with ABit over the whole IC7 series. Its kinda hard to be optimistic..."when your hommies lying dead on the pavement twisted but yall dont hear me though!" LOL :D Just thought I would add some humor.
All I did was the VTT mod, both took my 3.2Northie up to 4.5gig without a hassle - and Hall of Fame top10 then....Quote:

Certainly the best Canterwood board ever...even if it needed a little tweak.
I had 2, and both outstanding.
Cannot wait for the new Max.
Even though I have a WS-Pro, S3, Infinity and P5W Dh already ;)
Hehe

Seems to be a very good board, even better than the P5W-DH but that is a thing that we only have shure after they hit the market and proof some results.
The new performance 1404 bios from Asus today shows there is still life in the P5W-DH. :DQuote:

Fist off, these Engineers like "coolaler" are giving you previews of up & coming Hardware. Most times, they still have some bugs which are fixed on final release & maybe even patched with Bios Updates after release to the general Public.
Stop b!itching about the Number of PCI Slots. Direct the b!tch at whoever is responsible for the pi$$ poor introduction of PCI-E Architecture that now seems to be fudged around into different configurations, at every and any opportunity with a different Chipset. Industry standards suck & have been sucking for 18 months or so now. There are very very few Add-in cards that use the New PCI-E architecture. Infact, the only ones I recall seeing are Hard Drive controllers. (aside from Graphics Cards)
If you want MORE PCI Slots on your next Conroe board, then Consider the upcomimg DFI RD600 Based board. This is scheduled to have 3 x PCI Slots, True Asyncronous FSB adjustment, Super Cool Smaller Die NB. DEfinately a must for 24/7 Oc'ers.
These newer 975 boards are going further than the earlier models. We already know Abit tried a 975 board that was as pants as the rest of them, leaving the Intel Bad Axe 975 the best OC'er of them all.
The day a Chipset manufacturer makes the Best OC-ing board there is, tells me they didn't tell the other Board manufacturers everything they should have! I suppose this statement is my opinion, so please don't try flaming me for being open hearted & honest. ;)
Anyways, always remember these forums are not a "Right", they are here for us all to read & enjoy, as well have some sort of constructive input as a registered user. The Engineers Reports are as accurate as possible at the time of testing & will respond to users appropiately. Read widely & compare & then decide for yourselves!
Just Remember "Respect" ........& forget "Expect". He who Expects ...gets nothing!
Nice Review coolaler, keep em coming bud! :)
*EDIT* I won't be buying this board, but coolaler, how about some Good Old Fasioned SiSoft Memory Bandwidth Results & get that Ram speed up to 1200? ...Talk to OCZ! :D
2 minutes wasted reading your reply, thanks

SO glad for all the pictures and BIOS shots as well as the OC info and overall jibber jabber from others about this amazing board.
Keep up the good work! I can see that this will be the board to beat.
Any word as to if/when a Red (Fatal1ty) version (FP-A9D) will be coming out?
I am set on getting this board and I want to thank Nemesis for his link to ExcaliburPC as I have no great love for ZZF. $30 cheaper is great!
I wonder if a flex PCI adapter would make that PCI slot accessable...planning X1950XT CF on this current build...

Hi guys...
i need 2 informations:
1) it's possible to use clokgen or setfsb with this board?
2) did you flash the BETA BIOS under win or under dos?
ciao Lore
1) Not necessary, µGuru does the job.Quote:

Sicness, does this board do the power down then power back up thing like Asus?
ATI to launch RD600 in October
Monica Chen, Taipei; Rodney Chan, DigiTimes.com [Tuesday 19 September 2006]
ATI Technologies, set to be acquired by AMD, has rescheduled the launch of its RD600 chipset supporting the Intel platform until October, with motherboard makers showing reluctance to roll out products based on the new chipset, according to sources.
Prior to AMD and ATI's merger announcement in July, motherboard makers had shown considerable interest in supporting the RD600, which originally had been scheduled for launch in August, sources at motherboard makers said.
But since the announcement of the acquisition, motherboard makers are worried that AMD may discontinue or reduce the supply of RD600 and other ATI chipsets for the Intel platform, the sources commented.
The sources also pointed out that Intel's licensing agreement with ATI limits the front-side bus (FSB) clock speed to 1066MHz and slower, so when Intel unveils its new FSB specification at 1333MHz next year, ATI may not be allowed to roll out chipsets supporting the new specification. Because of these reasons, the sources claimed that ATI has revealed to motherboard makers that it will not invest further in Intel platforms.
ATI maintained that its RD600 will be unveiled as scheduled in October, and that the new chipset has received support from many motherboard makers. The company said it has never heard of any negative response from partners concerning the RD600.
thanks for the newsQuote:

2. Unlock the multiplier of Conroe
function removed:
1. The frequency of PCI-E
The P5W DH and the 965 DQ6 both had a feature (BIOS) that
when enabled, the CPU fan voltage is automatically controlled
according to CPU temp. That is, the voltage is low when the CPU is relatively
cool, and as CPU temp rises, so does the fan speed, and does so
on a continuim, not discretely as ABIT guru implies.
Does the aw9D MAX have such a control, and how does one set it.
Guru doesn't do this.
Guru does it and for each fan output.FAN EQ Mode> 4 setting Cool-Quiet-Normal or User define. With User define you can choose the REFERENCE TEMPERATURE according to-Cpu temp -systemtemp or PWM temp.Set the min VOLT and max VOLT --min TEMP and max TEMP.CPU fan EQ works only with 4 pins fan (pulse wide modulation)for 3 pins fan disabled it and use AUX 3 FAN output.Guru it's the better for this job.Sorry for my poor and bad englishQuote:

E6600ES on water
2 7900GTX's on water
4 74GB Raptors Raid 0
Corsair XMS 6400
Tagan 900w PSU
when OC'd @ 410mhz i had Vcore @ 1.46v Vdimm @ 2.2v mem @ 5-5-5-15 MCH @ 1.65 ( 1.7v didnt help )
looking for some advice on what voltages to set to acheive a hopeful 440mhz as its my 1st 775 intel set up
i will be getting some GSkill PC2 8000 in a few weeks but figured the corsair should do better than it is
but any help would be great ......... i have disable EIST but it didnt make a difference
Your problem is most like MCH voltage. This board undervolts mch, & overvolts cpu. 2.0v mch measured around 1.89v if I remember correctly. For 412 3DMark06 stable my mch voltage was 1.9v. Your board may be better than mine, but try really upping the mch voltage see if it gets Pi stable @ 420 FSB. Every board seems to be able to do 420 FSB just at different mch. From there lower it about .05 and see if its still stable. 440 took 2.0v mch for me, I didn't get 445 untill I removed heatpipe and put as5 on it.Quote:

I did put 40mm on the chipsets but just to let you know the asus p5w dh is a far better overall board for a primary gamer. The audiomax sound just doesn't cut it & it doesn't overclock as well as the p5w. I will be posting some results this weekend of benchmarks & Pi scores between the two. The abit board will probably end up on my test bed due to the guru features enabling you to find the potenial of you cpu without having to restart and reset bios as much. Keep in mind my primary reason for saying asus is better is the ability to use you own sound card with dual graphic configurations and it overclocks better straight out the box with no mods. The abit is still a good board, it may just need more timem to mature through bios updates perhaps.Quote:
