Same here. It's always tried to restart then it just sits there with everything running but doesn't boot the same way it does after a really bad OC.

hehe, i thought i was the only one. and I really thought my mobo was dead- atleast the bios.Quote:

Also where in the bios do you set your memory for 1:1 or 4:5 plus what is that? I took back the OCZ Gold 800 and picked up the Platinum. The gold was 5 5 5 12 and the Platinum is 4 5 4 15 which was better?

LOL so i check cpuz and this board has me at 1x frequency.....is this just a bug with this bios version or what? i have overclocked with older versions too and it only cripples performance at monster FSB. IT REPORTS IT FINE AT LOWER FSB!! Has ANYBODY seen this before? and DUH yes i have it in the blue slot. i have tried both southbridge modes in bios.
EDIT - UPDATE i tried bios 0507 and same thing am i missing something? even rivatuner diagnostics reports 1x selected as my bandwidth speed........
Guys...hope you can respond quickly.
Put my sys together E6600,Asus p5b deluxe, supertalent 6400,seasonics s12-600..wnet into bios, changed the date and the usual bollocks but after it posted there was a long pause and just a blank screen before attempting to load windows...nothing came so i rebooted and NOTHING.
The lights from the mobo come on and the fans work for the vid card and the cpu heatsink, bnut nothing other than that.
Done all the usual crap, reseated, cleard CMOS..blah-de-blah.
any ideas?mobo dead? :(
Try turning off the psu, resetting the cmos, then try to power on.
Mine is having a similar problem, and will not post unless i do that.
Also, is your board wifi or Ai lifestyle ?
WI- fi...ive tried all the usual stuff, still no post.
guys, any of u know whether the red sata port does effect oc or not ? :D i have 2 hdds (WD 320gb sata 2 & WD 300gb sata) i put the 320gb at sata port 1, and the 300gb at the red sata port..
I don't have any issues overclocking. And you'll see what I have:

My only problem is my XMS2 EPP, S.O.Bs. won't go above 450mhz.

i'm going to buy this board and a pair of ballistix pc6400 1gb sticks, which are available for a reasonable price here in italy...has anyone experienced any compatibility problem with this ram modules and p5b del. ? ( no posting, required a bios update etc. ... )
can someone explaine how to divide between C1 and C2 ?
i wanna buy the deluxe version in next time.
I just today got my P5B D non wifi. Before that i got DS3. Now i have folowing problems. My Asus 7950GX2 is working with very low performance on P5B D. It's like just one card working. I was trying to reinstal nvidia drivers. Than VGA performance inpruved, but just for ~ 2 min. Than again very big drop in FPS. If on DS3 i was running 3dmark 2006 and in first test i got ~ 30-40 fps than on p5b d ~ 5-15 or somethink like that. Anyone got any idea what to do?
My setup:
E6400
P5B Deluxe (O614 bioss)
2*1024 Teamgroup DDRII 3-4-4-8@667 mhz
FSP 700W PSU
P.S
I just tried to flash 0507 bioss and now pc even dont boot up:(
loosen the mobo screws. you have maybe tightened them to the case too hard... first try unscrew all and power on... and when it works, tighten them one by one but not too hard...Quote:

This was tested with the new 0614 bios, I can't say if the results will be the same for other bioses.

I don't recall ever seeing ASUS releasing a new board revision of the same model. If they have, I haven't seen it.Quote:

I haven't heard of a C2 rev coming out but I have the C1 and it's a kickass overclocking board. My only problem is the RAM, it won't go higher than 450mhz, so I'm stuck.Quote:

There's another thread from Tony, and he's got a c2 965 p5b, and it clocks like 600mhz fsb. I think it uses the 1333 strap though, and yeilds a little lower performance than 1066 strap.
To much trouble! I was getting near my 15 day return at Fry's with the P5B-D/E6400 combo and having no luck with OCing. The best I got was 2.4 and that was iffy. The double starts we're driving me nuts! I took the whole mess back and picked up the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3/E6400 $379 combo. All I did was go into bios (F4) and set it at 8X420 for 3360 Mhz. ran CPU Stress all night, no prob! Put on a Corsair Nautilus 500 water cool cuz its so easy to install, nothing in the case but heatblock and 2 tubes. Amazing how a $150 board whips a $250 wizbang board. Just for Sh*ts and Grins I tried the Gigabyte board with a E6600 and it cruised along at 3240Mhz with 9x360 again just a clock change in bios! I will probally try more later but its refeshing to have no issues and the thing runs. Well maybe one issue. I can't overclock having the memory set up as dual channel. Its OCZ 800mhz Plat 2x1G CPU-Z shows 5-5-5-15 at 420mhz single channel. When I install the mem in the same colored slots 1 and 3 for dual it won't OC if I run it in 1 and 2 its fine. Any thoughts. Thanks and good luck on the OC!!
I have serious question:
I have 20pin atx + 4pin AUX PSU, e6300, 2x1gb ram 6400, p5b-deluxe (no wifi), g6200 or x800gt
will this system boot?
I know what 4 pins leave on mobo atx connector (gnd,+12,+5,+3.3)
In the manual of Gigabyte ds3/ds4 is wrote that you could use 20pin PSU, but in manual pf p5b deluxe - not....
I dont like to OC VGA, CPU. I only use this 20pin PSU for about 1,2 months and then i will have much better PSU with ATX 2.2
Use the 20 pin from your PS on the 24 on the MoBo and the 4 pin on the Aux and you should be fine. I have a 500 Wt new PS that doesnt have the 24 pin. Havnt seen one yet.Quote:

Basicly I cannot change the CPU vcore. I have tried both 507 and 614 bios versions. I have disabled CIE and speedstep and changed the cpu vcore setting to 1.35 - upon f10 and reboot I check the vcore (via hardware monitor in bios) and its hovering around 1.55, this is confirmed by asus probe. CPU-Z reports 1.21v
On a plus side my e6600 got to 3.6ghz orthos stable on 'auto' settings but I want to try it at a lower vcore as this was with a reported 1.55v.
Help please!
cpu-z bugs out reporting vcore at 1.45~+ and always displays 1.213.
So bios/pc probe is telling the truth then:( Anyone think that I could have a faulty board?
No all of us with P5B experience the same prob. Your m/b is fine... :)
So no-one can change the vcore:eek: I can live with cpu-z not reporting right but no change in vcore meaning my cpu is constantly at 1.55 when default is 1.35(?) is surely wrong.Quote:

This is most definitely not normal. My P5B Deluxe always reports slightly lower vcore than I set, both in the BIOS and through Asus Probe. I have not seen the behavior you describe in any BIOS revision I have tried.Quote:

Looking more closely the voltage drops to 0.98 when idle but is constant when under load. Its as if the voltage is being regulated due to the cpu load:confused: Only had this board 2 days and I'm ready for throwing it out the window:slapass:
Edit : Vdroop.
Still can't change the vcore to that I want though.
try disabling C1E and SpeedSteppingQuote:

I have tryed mulit 6-10 and al possible volt /mem settings etc.
Is this just a bad board?
I have huge problems with this board :(
It runs fine @ 2.88ghz, and was idling at 37c, but then it was a warmish night in my room, so i can expect maybe 35c / 36c.
Anyway, that's the most I could do 320*9. It ran fine in games and everything. I started to increase more 330*9 and it refused to boot up. Got to POST screen and froze when said "Overclock failed" I had to unplug all of my USB peripherals and plug in my old PS2 keyboard for it to work.
I went back to 390*9 and it froze whilst in games every now and then. So now I running at 300*9.
My memory is GeIL PC2-6400 DRR2-800mhz 4-4-4-12, yet in Windows under SPD it says DDR533. Does anyone know the settings for those? I will put it in manual, but I'm new to memory configs etc. so I'm a bit stuck on that! In BIOS it gives loads of options not "4" for the 4-4-4-12. I know that the top two in BIOS relate to the first 2 in the 4-4-4-12. But after that I'm stuck.
Either way, I can only run a divider 1:1 if I select DDR-533 in BIOS other wise it puts it on another mad divider.
I'm so f'kin confused right now. Other people's seems to be fine. I know it can do more, I'm just so lost....
Someone help! I can set the laptop up next to me if someone could give a run through later on today (5pm - 6pm and then 9pm - 11pm UK time)
Anyone?? lol.
Just help!!! :(
bios upgrade ;)
I am also having USB (Keyboard/Mouse/Quickcam) issues randomly at Stock speed. Every 2 or 3 reboots my USB Bluetooth Logic keyboard/mouse are no longer connected or cannot be found as well as when I activate my Logitech OrbitMP USB camera I get a blue screen and the system crashes. The only way to fix everything is to get a PS2 Keyboard/mouse, uninstall all the drivers and then reinstall them and everything works again for a few reboots. Asus told me it is either a Grounding or PSU problem. I have an OCZ 700w GameXstream PSU that is rock solid stable. Passes Memtest 86 v3.2 for 20 passes with no errrors, cinabench, dual instances of SuperPi 32M and Prime95.
I feel there is a chipset or chipset driver problem. I am currently running the 0614 bios and was using the 0507 bios that came preloaded with the board.
Any input or ideas??

Just caught that an hour ago. Been reading it. will try it later :)
BTW, how the hell do I check the volts right now to my memory? they support 1.8v - 2.3v. (another showing of my memory noobness).
Hey guys need some help here. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this issue and if so I haven't read it anywhere.
My computer will not restart. Meaning when a program restarts the computer or if you physically push the restart button it will start to reboot but you get nothing on the screen. Use the power button to turn it off and on and it works. It's not any connections I can garentee that. Also it was working before but once I did some OC'ing it stopped working.
Also I had a issue when in windows it installed updates and I did not notice. Then I went to restart the computer to mess with the OC that didn't boot correctly and I think that messed up windows so I reinstalled. I don't think that should be the issue since I did a new install but whatever.
Anyone else have this issue and know whats wrong?
Does it still do that running at stock?
I'll give it a try but if I remember I did a few weeks ago and it still had the problem. I may be mistaken though so I'll recheck.Quote:

EDIT: Set it back to my current OC and still having the same issue. BIOS 0509 (think thats the right number).
EDIT 2: Just because I don't like to leave issues without an answer...I found the solution. I needed to up my RAM voltage. It seems that when set to auto it supplied enough voltage to boot up but not to restart the computer...strange. My RAM requires 2.1v I believe to boot. I have it set a 900mhz and I'm guessing it was setting the voltage value to 2.15v because when I set it to that I could get it to boot up but not to restart. When taking it to 2.25v (2.20v in windows) it boots and restarts. I don't even think it would take 2.20v to get this RAM to boot and restart but the BIOS lacks a 2.20v setting (which would show 2.15v in windows). This is the only area where it jumps by .1v instead of .05v (from 2.15v-2.25v). Bummer.
Just recived a P5B Deluxe and a E6600, flashed to 614 and I managed 333x9 32Mb pass but at 350 it won't play ball.
So im testing at 400x7 @ 2.25V mem, 1.25V CPU to see what happens.
If It can SP2004 for 1 hour then Ill use the 8 multi! :D
CR.
350x9 won't play ball so i've jumped to 400x7 2.25V mem, plus the settings in the sticky above for chipset etc.
Hopefully this will play ball and let me try 400x8 later tonight :o
Im having the double restart problems too :( Somethings on BIOS saves and restarts and sometimes on normal restarts :(
Edit: opps, seems it did post it first time round :S
Anyhoo.
400x7 is good, 1 hour SP2004 and its good.
Im going to do the XT-X now for an hour then back to 400x8 :D
EDIT 2: Asus Ai Suite won't install :/ Any ideas?
I can't monitor any voltage apart from CPU atm from CPU-Z :(
Did you download the current version of AI Suite from Asus? Otherwise, what is the error you get?
hey guys i have a p5b-d and a 6700es step 5, i can run stable at 10x370 at 1.435 but once i go higher on the fsb 390 or higher the computer wont post the computer starts fans and all but just a black screen, more voltage doesnt help.
Memory is gskill HZ's running 1:1 they can reach 1000mhz+ so thats not it.
I am using BIOS 614 so maybe try a different one?
Thanks
i have same problem.Quote:

Unfortunately there is never any gurantee that any system will work at that FSB. Does it POST? If it Posts it could be a voltage thing. Try giving it more juice and see what happens.Quote:

Basically, that's what I did and it worked fine till 450fsb which my Corsair was hitting a wall at, but now that I got a set of G.Skill HZ hopefully I'll hit the 500fsb I want.
I would also try tweaking a little more those timings, I found that in the x-x-x-x-X (From 20to40)-x-x-x-x, don't use less than 30.
Also I have a bad feeling that the EPP may not be a good feature for overclocking OR I just had a bad set of Corsair RAM that didn't want to overclock anymore. After all I had a set of Corsair XMS2 800EPP and they were the cause that I couldn't reach a 500mhz RAM frequency. Today after putting my G.Skill DDR2 800, I tested using a 3:5 ratio and RAM is running at 500mhz with a 4-4-4-8 (-6-35-10-10-10) @ 2.3v.
Hopefully I'll hit the 500fsb when I get more time to play with this thing.
On the issue of running RAID on the P5B-DLX, has anyone got a stable RAID 0 or 1 going by installing the RAID driver after Window install or does it absolutely have to be installed using F6 during the initial Window XP install?
P.S. I'm not booting up in a RAID setup, I'll boot with single drive than have a RAID 0 with 2 drive for data.
good question since I will be running a raid setup:toast:

Right, after 16 hours with the setup I have the following problems:
1. Mouse power is still on, so the LED is on all the time, even when off.
2. Dual reboot problem, does it nearly every time, even at stock after I had set to to 400mhz FSB. Even does it when first turning it on!
3. Ai Suite does not want to install, might try a system, install soon after all my overclocking is done :D
Otherwise sitting at 400x7, 1.25V until I get a decent cooler (65C at 3.2 + 1.4V lol!)

hi,
i am building a c2d system with p5b-d and the system failed to post, black screen, no beep, light on motherboard is on, cpu fan working, video card fan working, case fan working, drd-rom tray is working.
system configuration:
P5B-d
E6300 stock Fan and heat sink
OCZ 2X1GB PC2-6400 Gold XTC 5-5-5-12
Gigabyte 7900GT 256MB video card
WD 320GB SATA2 HDD
Pioneer 111D burner
Ultraview DVB-T card
FSP Zen Fanless PSU 300W
Antec P180 Case
I tried to take out all component except video card and still failed to post, only black screen with no beep from the motherboard.
please help me figure out what i could do wrong here. thanks
Anyone else experiencing a cap @ 500 FSB?
Using bios 0614 here.
Not like i have to have that, but last night i was messing around, comparing 7x & higher FSB to 8x & lower FSB, & i couldn't get past 500.
Basically i could do 495 easy w/
all the voltages one step up from the lowest (vNB, vFSB, vICH, vSB), but even with them maxed, i couldn't get past 500.
(And my RAM is more than capable; it does at least 1100 5-5-5)
Also, i get worried about vSB.
Could too much damage video card/HDDs?
Or am i misunderstanding what vSB does?
is it better than the 0624 bios?Quote:

At the moment, I run 333*9 and can easily run 2*32M SPi. I use 1.28v(measured) here, and get an load temp of 57c in coretemp.
If i raise the FSB to 350*9 I cannot get it stable, no matter what vcore I use.
If I use 400*6 i have no problems.
Please help pinpoint the problem here.. I know the CPU can overclock more, but I cant see where the problem is.

The problem is that you need to get a hold of some DDR2 RAM that will work at 1.8V or can be identified by the old BIOS (look in the manual) just so you can boot into BIOS in the first place.Quote:

my 2gbhz pc2-6400 runs fine at ddr2-1000+ 4-4-4-9 with just 2.1v so i imagine with v mods easy cl4@1100
I'm also interested in this....Quote:

any solution to the double boot problem?
I have it like most of us.. i'm wondering if that can cause any problems later on?

About the biosupdate tip - Thanks.. Running 3420Mhz at 1.408v now..
Tried 3600Mhz at 1.525(bios setting), but it crashed a little bit after halfways in 2*32M SPi, so unstable :(
Upgraded to 0614.
Will finetune both the CPU, FSB and Ram later, but I'll manage with 3420 now. and then post in the "C2D Overclocking" thread.. But not untill after the weekend.
Again - Thanks.
Here's a couple of new issues to puzzle over:
1) With the 614 BIOS at anything other than AUTO or STANDARD settings at stock speed, the voltage will not drop with speedstep. The multiplier drops, but not the voltage. Some proggies like RightMark say it is dropped, but my temperatures prove otherwise, and Probe shows no drop.
2) I tried to overclock to some sub 400 FSBs today and the BIOS just kept rebooting at 320. I figured I would see if it was a strap issue so I went straight to 400. It didn't post, so I unplugged my PSU. First reboot was not successful, but the second one after I unplugged again gave me 400x8 no problem and I did not get the overclocking error...And now I can overclock again above 320 and have the BIOS boot at 380 or whatever. Very weird.
Usually I can go straight to 400 without a problem too. Just bizarre.
sluzbenik... where are you from?
Today i´ve been busy doing some of the vmods in Raptors board here is the result.
it´s kind of modular so i can turn it on and off easily and also read the measure point
- Vmem
- Vcore
- Vdrop
- VMCH
the other conector is used for ground to any fan conector on the board
tomorow or after it i´ll post the full motherboard layout

Ok, I'm having problems with setting up RAID on the P5B. I want to boot from a single drive and then have RAID 0 pair for data. I have no problem setting up the single (I did not use F6 floppy), system boots fine and everything is working. Now, I'm trying to follow the instruction in the manual and boot into BIOS and set IDE controller to RAID. Once I did this, save and exit. I can use CTRL I to get into the Intel RAID setup menu. I can then select the 2 drive that I want ot set up as a RAID 0 and have it created. I would then save and exit and the system will proceed to reboot. It then reboots everytime it gets to the loading windows screen. If I set the comtroller back to IDE, the system boots fine.
Ok I thought this is because I didn't do the F6 3rd party controller thing so I did a Window XP re-install and this time I did the F6 and have the ICH8/R driver for desktop install, but I'm still having the same problem. My boot drive is on SATA 1 and I have tried the raid pair on 3&4 and 5&6 and it's didn't fix anything. I wonder if a full wipe and install will ork any better? TIA for any suggestions.
